I've been to other locations and came upon this location so of course I had to give it a try. It did not disappoint! Ordered my standard cup of beans with pollo. You order in the front and then have to pick up from the very far end of the building. Kind of a strange set up. I would imagine that they probably are there strictly for the drunk crowd. The family and I went to the Tempe parade and stopped by this place in the evening to grab a quick bite. It's relatively dimmly lit but they had ample seating. I ended up ordering their keto version of taco which had some shredded meat inside a cheese taco. It was absolutely delicious and I really wish I could have ordered more (but we had to walk the parade and didn't have much time). You do also get a condiment/side station where you can get grilled onions (also delicious) as well as sauces and guacamole. Additionally, what they don't tell you is if you order online for carry out (even through their website directly) the prices are inflated compared to if you had called in the order over the phone or placed it in-person. Pretty good food at a fair price. That said - the restaurant was a real dump and an unpleasant place to be in. Restaurant staff drinking and yelling with their buddies near the register area. Crusty food gunk on every table I could see. Completely full trash barrel next to the salsa bar. And it didn't even have a dome lid with a door on it - it was literally a 55 gallon barrel completely filled with trash. You might as well go eat next to the dumpster. Doors wide open in August and no AC. Bathroom was clean. The kitchen staff who prepared my food were nice. Overall I liked the food but that isn't enough for me to go back. I heard about this place eavesdropping two servers in another restaurant who were talking about good Mexican places in the area. I don't know if they meant this location specifically, but it was the most convenient for me to get to so this is where I went. I ordered a sampling of things including a Mulita Cabeza (Melted cheese and meat between two corn tortillas), a Vampiro Carne Asada (Open crunchy tortilla, melted cheese, and meat) and a Taco Nopal which was a vegetarian option that had cactus as the main ingredient. I also got a "small" Horchata which was gigantic, but I was glad to have it because some of their hot sauces had a kick! They have an open bar to add onions, cilantro, salsa, and guacamole, which is nice, you can customize to your preference. Everything was very delicious and a fair price, food came out very quickly. The only reason this was not a 5 star review is that something in those dishes just absolutely tore my stomach up. I ordered a Carne Asada Vampiro (Open faced Crunchy Taco) and two tacos (Taco Al Pastor and Carne Asada) My Wife had 3 Tacos (2 Asada and 1 Pollo) The Salsa Bar is pretty legit and includes guacamole I love the spicy sliced carrots and the salsa i usually put a little bit of all of the salsa choices. They have a large projector playing Sports on the day i was there it was replay of an NFL game. I love that they are open until 10pm every day, but Monday (Closed on Mondays) I met the one of the owners on the day I was there Celeste who I recognized from the Mayor of Tempe's recent post on his social media. I tried this spot out on lunch one day and decided to go again for lunch the next day. The meat was great and not chewy. The al pastor was very unique with a sugar spice. The salsa bar had all the right fixings INCLUDING GUACAMOLE! Usually guacamole is not put out at taco spots but here they have it. They even have roasted onion and jalapeños, my favorite! The staff were great and helped us out and could tell they were more than happy to serve us. The second time going, it seemed the woman at the front seemed bothered we were there... but the food is great and the cooks made up for it! Okay, hear me out. This place is a gem. I stopped in here several times during my time in town and will be putting this on my list for anytime I'm in the area. It's a small hole in the wall place close to the university, but you really can't beat it. The prices are phenomenal (hello you can get the guac cart for less than $5).
