Wet Burrito (half red & half green sauce)
    Sergio L.

Great comfortable restaurant with many options. House the best hot sauce in the valley (referring to sauces in the salad bar only) spicy warning. If you're planning to get the basic tacos, I would recommend going for "Tacos Hecha a Mano", it will make a huge difference on portion size and quality compared to the regular tacos. You pay more but get way more. If you're looking for something more extra, select any tacos on "Especialidades", these tacos are burrito sized tacos and are specialized. I prefer Tacos Arabe, it's roasted pork with grilled onions, avocado and special hot spicy sauce. If you like BBQ, you'll like the Taco Arabe, it almost like hot spicy BBQ tacos. It's really flaming good. The wet burrito is awesome as well.

    Home of the super taco.

Visited 4/26/2020 Sadly in these days of the virus pandemic it's takeout only. I'll sure be glad when it opens back up so I can sit there and enjoy my dinner. Now for the bad. Service was quite slow considering there was only one person in front of me when I arrive. The young lady at the counter was quite friendly although had trouble understanding what I was trying to order. A little better English would be a plus but she was cute and she was nice. Now for the good. The giant tacos are amazing. They offer three standard ones to order but you can have whatever protein you choose not just what they want to give you. I went for the Taco Nopal only chose Lengua (Beef Tongue) for my protein. It was some of the best Lengua I have ever had. Super tender and flavored perfectly. I definitely will be back for another one of these. Also I ordered a straight Carna Asada Giant Taco. Very well flavored beef Asada Also very tender and delicious. As you can see in some of my pictures the size of these tacos are at least three times the size of a standard Taco. But they are three times the cost plus. Some will think that's a bit pricey but if you take into consideration they hand make their own corn tortillas including the biggest corn tortilla I've ever had. The tortillas are rich in flavor and thick enough not to fall apart being a giant Taco. $9.15 for the Carna Asada and $10.15 for the Lengua and Cactus. I give this place a solid 3 1/2 stars and can't wait to come after the virus is over and try some other items. It's a small place with six or eight tables. It's definitely worth a try. Enjoy

We are always looking for Mexican places that offer good food and found this place, Taco Time. It is located in Mecca, yes it is kind of far but if you're traveling out of town or simply looking for a unique spot, this is it. We walked in and greeted immediately. The employees are nice and friendly. The restaurant is clean as well. They offer the typical Mexican dishes. I noticed they sell these tacos that are priced $8.00+. I gave the taco a shot. They offer different kinds of tacos such as Taco mix, Taco Nopal and Taco Chile. I gave the Taco Chile a try. I was surprised how big their tacos are! They are huge and delicious of course! They come with your choice of meat (I got Carne Asada), cheese and a large chile. Man, that taco was huge! I cannot stop saying it! Don't worry, it is not spicy if you're worried! Overall, if you are looking for unique Mexican dishes, stope here. You wont regret it!

The salsas are spicy and delicious and the tacos are giant. No vegetarian taco but if you ask they can do it. The nachos use nacho cheese though

OMG! Just had the best taco pollo EVER! It was huge (note I said "was"). The pepper was tender yet not squishy, the chicken excellent and all very fresh! People say the hole in the wall places serve the best food...yep!!! So, if you're out cruising in the middle of nowhere and happen across Mecca, this is the spot!

You have just been worked over at the Migra checkpoint and are getting hungry for lunch, Palm Springs now being too far away to make a run for. The sign says that Mecca is just a few miles ahead. You approach it with dread. Mecca turns out to be a Mexican town in the Sonoran Desert that just happens to be on the US side of the border. Not a gringo in the place. The town exists as a residential center for migrant agricultural labor that works in the huge latifundia surrounding Mecca, mostly picking sweet bell peppers. USDA approved signs are on the dorms. The stoop labor working out in the fields reminds you of antebellum Mississippi, except you can see that they are driving cars better than yours. There is not even a McDonald's in town, not even a Dairy Queen. Where are you going to eat? So we cruised the town (not much to cruise) and found Ofelia's Mexican Restaurant, a couple of blocks off the main road. Not much on the outside to recommend it, but it seemed a tad cleaner looking than the rest of town. What a find! The owner is a chilango, and his wife and children still live in the DF. We now realize that that is why we stopped there -- we had lived in the DF for 3 years, and this reminded us of the neighborhood spots we used to eat at.. He sports a county A for kitchen clenliness, and it was. Inside a few tables, but outside and hidden from the street a shaded seating area. Just the right temperature (at least in November). There was a printed menu, but not of much use. His clientele is almost all migrant labor, and he cooks to their regional tastes depending on what labor crew is in town that week. He had just made chiles rellenos, so we had that with the fixings. Delicious, light, real. The best beans and rice we have had for years -- with no later gaseous effects. Great home-made horchata and jamaica and tamarindo. (He does have a license, but offers only Corona and Bud Light, so bring your own if you can stand to drink alcohol in that heat). We felt like we had gone back to Mexico, not eating in a Cal-Mex place. Later, eating in the Palm Springs tourist joints, we realized that it might even be a good idea to drive back to Mecca for good Mexican food. It is that good. Try it.

They had these cheap old tables and plastic plates. This was no hidden gem. It looked like an old truck stop from the 80s. The art on the walls was kind of cool and indicative of a Mexican restaurant. They didn't carry Jarritos. I asked for pineapple. They said no, but later I found out they had pineapple agua fresca . The waitress should have told me. My niece had chicken nuggets, but they had no barbecue sauce. The carnitas tacos weren't shredded and they had absolutely No flavor whatsoever. My tacos fell apart too. Their tortillas are weak. Luckily they had lemon, salt and Tapatio. They did start with complementary chips and salsa, which was a nice surprise. They didn't have any breakfast burritos We had to wait forever for them to bring our check, they never brought it and we had to walk all the way up to the front to ask about payment.

Service was amazing, so quick to come out with fresh chips and salsa (FRESH! as in they made the chips in-house... rare trait to come by these days IMO). Quantity of food was incredible. I can't speak for the menudo (dad got this) or for the 3 egg platter (not really sure why my mom got this) but $16 for a carne asada burrito as well as the beans, rice, and veggies on the side was such a steal. Especially in Anza Borrego. I would've thought it would maybe be more expensive since it probably costs a lot to bring out the best ingredients in the desert but somehow they have it all figured out. The carne asada burrito meat was top tier. Smoky flavor, soft with charred edges, so flavorful and overall the quantity of the burrito was way more than I was expecting. Lastly, I'm just so happy my dog got to sit outside with us. They have a shaded patio with a couple tables. I think other pet parents followed suit, as this seems to be a hit for dog-friendly spots here in Anza Borrego. I'd highly recommend. What a great find by me. Go me!! This is truly a hole in the wall that needs more recognition. You won't be let down!
