I am very easy going person and have never left a bad review in my life, but I could not believe the lack of responsibility and care they have shown me and my dog. I dropped my dog off last Friday with a 10 am grooming appointment and went to pick her up at 230 pm when I was given the window of time between 2-3pm for pick up. Before I came I tried to call numerous times and no one answered, so I left work to go get her to find out that she hasn't even been seen yet and wouldn't be ready until at least 5 pm. No one even called to tell me they were running behind. I live about 20+ minutes away, so I couldn't just leave her, so I had to take her home without being groomed and did not realize they kennel the dogs the entire time they are there unless you pay more for "dog daycare" even though they are the ones taking 5-7+ hours to groom a dog with an appointment. It is sad the staff is willing to let dogs sit in a kennel for 7 hours straight when we made an appointment for a reason. That was never disclosed when signing her up the first couple times I took her. The staff was at least apologetic for this and rescheduled her with another appointment today at 7am. When I dropped her off at 7am I was told that she was 3rd on the list and it wouldn't be a long until shes ready for pick up. It was confirmed that the phones are working perfectly, so when we call someone will answer due to our work schedules. My husband called to pick her up at 10 am and they said she wasn't ready after being there for 3 hours and was 3rd on the list. The staff couldn't even give him a time frame she would be ready. I needed to pick my dog up since we were leaving town, so I started to call at around 11am and no one answered after trying for close to an hour, so I sent an email to have someone call me to let me know. I went to pick her up since I never heard back and the lady at the front desk told me she saw my email but went on break instead of calling me. She informed me after my dog was there for 5 hours she wasn't even seen for grooming and again had to take her home dirtier than when I dropped her off after doing this twice in a row. Staff did not care or even apologize for any of it. Extremely rude! read more

I love Tail Haven. I've taken my 4 month old corgi here for half a year, and he loves it there. He comes home exhausted from running around and swimming. They tell me whenever he makes friends with another dog. When he got fixed and was in his cone, they were very accommodating in having him stay upstairs. I also got him groomed, he looked sharp and had a nice heart shaped corgi but for a while. read more

When I first found Tail Haven four years ago I had no idea what a blessing it would be, but I was so grateful to find such a loving and caring location to have my furry baby go to while I was at work. I did seek out a few other locations before going here and they all felt like prison that I was paying to take my dog to. When they had grooming open they did a fabulous job with her as well, I am only sad that grooming is gone. Now that I have two furry loves I appreciate them, and their loving, kind staff more than ever. As a single dog mom they have come through for me in clutch moments and I can't thank them enough. I know that my furry loves are in good hands when they are there. Especially since I have a spicy little Chihuahua who can be snappy but she has taken to everyone there in a way that makes my heart smile. Can't say enough good things about Tail Haven. We needed a pet hotel/boarding for our six months old German Shepherd puppy over Thanksgiving. We looked at a few places and read yelp reviews, and this place looked the best out of all places in the East Bay area. However our Puppy had to stay much longer at this wonderful place because we had a really bad car accident the day after Thanksgiving. This place was able to accommodate our circumstances, and even one of the front office staff workers went on her lunch break to buy more of his food. Yuro, our dearest Family member, completely forgot about us when we were dropping him off. He was so excited and happy to see so many dogs and he just wanted to play right away. I absolutely love the place. It was clean,friendly and very competent service from all members of this company. Moreover, you could see your little puppy's pictures daily on Facebook. On top of it, with 7 or more days of stay we got a complimentary bath and when my husband picked him up, Yuro was happy, clean, and it certainly looked like he had an amazing vacation. I will highly recommend this place to anyone who is concerned and might be too over protective of their dog. This place will accommodate all your needs, and additionally, your puppy or an adult dog will get training provided by one of the best trainers in the East Bay. We certainly found our pet hotel (I cannot call this boarding, this is certainly a five-star place for dogs), and we already reserved a little over a week from Christmas eve to New Year's day due to personal circumstances. I feel so fortunate to of came across this new doggy daycare in Lafayette! It's convenient downtown location is right along my morning route. I have a 3 month old Irish Setter puppy who needed care while I am away at work. I tried a pet sitter but that wasn't enough to drain her frolicking energy, need for socialization & house breaking. I was impressed by the cleanliness & the attention that the trainers gave to my puppy. Upon me checking her in the trainer immediately took her out to potty when she sniffed the ground. When I picked her up 8 hrs later she was sooooo tired out from all the puppy play & attention she received all day. It is a gift to have Tail Haven in our own backyard! The owner is very helpful & knowledgeable. She was helpful on training advice and much more. We are certainly going to be regulars here. I don't know how we would survive puppyhood while away at work without Tail Haven. read more

I work in Lafayette and have taken my to Springer Spaniels to stay here a few times. Plenty of employees 2 keep an eye on all of the dogs. It is clean and completely secure inside the building and even in the play area outside where I can tell you the dogs love it. The owner is an outstanding member of the community in Lafayette California and as extensively knowledgeable about dog training as well. If you want a secure and Stellar place to have your dog stay during the day or overnight you need to check out tail Haven. We just finished our first week at The Tail Haven and feel we could have made no better decision about caring for our one year old pup a few days each week.. Tasha spent a 10 hour day there Tuesday, followed by two half days Thursday and Friday. She validated our good decision when on day two,when she pulled me down the sidewalk and up the steps of the building at a blistering pace, to get inside as quickly as possible. The staff is energetic and welcoming and their enthusiasm for their furry clientele - authentic. A bonus in the benefits column is that Tasha's energy level at the end of the days she spends at Tail Haven more closely matches our own. Evenings are for winding down, light play and snuggling versus the guilt that accompanies having a young dog ready for serious exercise, now that we are finally home. read more

Emily is an amazing "dog whisperer". She has found her calling in life and has put all that she has, heart and soul, into this amazing facility. Anyone who would give it less than 5 stars is just not informed about her and what she stands for. She worked exclusively with me and my 3 dogs on behavior, and was very loving, patient, kind, and effective. I learned so much from her, and always felt completely comfortable handing over my dogs to her. I took my dog to Tail Haven for her second grooming there. When I called and made the appointment, I told the man scheduling the appt that I wanted a face and sani-trim and did not want a full body clip. When I came to the appt on 10/11, the person checking us in stated that she saw we had a 1/2'' clip- I again reiterated that I want her face trimmed and a sani-trim- shse wrote that up and I again stated 'no body clip.' She said she understood. When I went to pick up my dog her entire body had been clipped (she is a rough coat jrt). I couldn't believe it. They said they were sorry and didn't charge - but, the groomer herself did not bother to come up and explain what happened nor apologize. They offered a free grooming at the next visit- there will not be one. read more

My dog was quite matted, and other groomers I called suggested shaving him down to the skin. The Tail Haven said they'd try to save his coat, and they did. Not only that, but they only charged me the basic "full service" fee, even though I had authorized them to charge more in order to keep the coat. They did everything to make the dog feel that he was among friends, and he showed far less anxiety than I've seen dogs exhibit when left in a strange place. I would say that Tail Haven is ok to the dogs but I saw the owner talk to one of her employees like she was dirt, for a very simple thing that should have just been a reminder. It gave me the impression that the owner feels like she owns her employees, uses no respect. That makes me worry about how the dogs are treated behind the scenes. I sent Rufus to Emily and friends just before Thanksgiving to be E-collar trained. This was the hardest decision I ever had to make regarding Rufus, but one I got a lot of support and guidance from Tail Haven. And now, months later, it's the best decision I've ever made. Rufus has benefitted greatly from this training, I rarely use the actual "shock" at all, rather can use the vibration when I really need his attention. He is safer, so are other dogs and animals around him, and he is able to enjoy his freedom with so much less anxiety. For me too. Emily and her crew did a great, great job! read more

I walked into this place randomly with my friend and her dog, and walked out adopting one of the puppies that Emily (owner) had rescued from a kill shelter. We love this place - been going for years. Often for short periods of boarding but had to start bringing our dog for daytimes for a month. You'd think our rescue dog would be afraid but the staff are so friendly she LOVES to go! The owner, Emily, is awesome as well. A fantastic place with a fun and welcoming vibe. I really wanted to like this place!! It's convenient, staff is very friendly and appear to enjoy their jobs. Another reason I had high hopes for this place is due to no other groomers in Lafayette that are competent in grooming. Well today was my second time to give them a try. Today's grooming was even worse than the first! And, for the money they charge - I want a professional grooming for my dog! This review is really 4.5 stars. And it would be 5 stars but there was a hiccup that I hope will be corrected and assuming it will be, i'll come back and add the other star. But I was moved to write a review based on not only an experience I had, but more importantly the owner (Emily's) response to it. In this day and age of being "disconnected" from ownership, talking to people in foreign countries or owners not wanting to own up and be willing to take responsibility for their business, this business (owner) is NOT that. I had what I would call a bad experience with my pet there today, not a bad job done, but a scheduling and customer service issue. My dog came out handsome and happy. BUT....I think what I was most impressed by and why I will continue to go back with my pets was the owner. She came out and had a very heartfelt conversation with me for quite some time to see what it was that she could do to resolve the issue and what she/they could do moving forward to make sure this issue didn't arise again. I am a small business owner (actually 2 businesses) and while bias, I like to think we strive and hopefully achieve excellent customer service. So I am sensitive to that when I don't see it AND I know how hard it is to depend on employees to see out your vision. NOT an easy task. Anyway, I wanted to write and say that The Tail Haven (Emily) should be very proud of what they have accomplished and I was very moved by your effort to make, what could have been a VERY bad experience, actually great.
