At first I thought the Seafood Boil were run by Vietnamese, only to realize the restaurant was operated by Chinese cooks. Kid server recommended the Blue Punch and I ordered another Margarita Lime since it was Happy Hour on a Monday. I started off with a Philly Eggrolls...pretty mid...exactly what you'd expect out of a Sysco Catalog because c'Mon who in their right mind will hand roll a Philly Egg Roll...let alone trays upon trays everyday in the back kitchen. It was salty, and over powdered by wannabephillycheescakeness. Next the Raw Oysters...these were the highlight of the night...I know they may have been frozen..but in all honesty it's been 3 hours since I swallowed 6 oysters and I'm still alive. Probably the cocktails aided in killing any excess bacteria.. And onto the main entree, I went with their signature boil and just want to go on the record. The shrimps will taste better with head on. The crab legs were good. The thing I didn't feel was up to my expectations was their house sauce that they boil everything together in. It lacked a punch, it lacked flavor. There was an overall lack of Garlic, Lemon Zest, Lemon Pepper, White Pepper and Brown Pepper, and there was a lack of MSG, and also lack of cayenne peppers and ghost pepper powders. I stay in Lansing pretty much every week for the last three years on business. I just recently began to order from this joint. I was surprised that the shrimp and the flounder are outstanding for a place so far inland. Additionally, what separates this place from so many others is I don't even have to call the restaurant to ask them, "can you please freegin add the condiments that I paid for or comes with the meal?" This is probably one of my favorite seafood restaurants in the whole Lansing area. It has a nice cajun-feel to the food with super delicious options. The restaurant itself is decorated and laid out very well, it almost reminds me of a TGI Friday's or similar American restaurants. I came in around 4:30 and it wasn't packed at all but lemme tell ya these guys make Red Lobster look like the McDonald's of the seafood world. The ambiance definitely fits a sea-food like theme it almost feels like you're in a restaurant on a fishing boat. The menu has a wide variety of seafood & chicken but I got the "Create Your Own Boil" (which allows you to pick everything from King Crab to Mussels to Scallions). I ordered a Lobster Tail with 1lb of King Crab legs (which are at market price but SOOOOO WORTH IT ). My boil came with two potato's, a half of a corn on the cob, and I got Jasmine Rice as my side. It came in a big bag with the sauce you select all throughout the bottom of it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET THE TANGY MIXED SAUCE. My lobster tail was pre-split and VERY SUCCULENT. The King Crab was literally to die for in that Tangy Mixed Sauce it was exactly how you'd want King Crab to taste and had the PERFECT balance of butter, garlic, and spice. Now for the thing everyone always wants to know...how much was it. My Lobster Tail was $19, the King Crab at the time was $57/lb and I got a NY-style Cheesecake for dessert (which was only $6 because why not right ). ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY AND THEN SOME! I swear on my mama the cooks in the back are actual magicians Michelin needs to give The Tangy Crab its first Michelin Star. This place is great! I have heard of the Tangy Crab based on all the billboards posted in Lasing. My husband and I decided to try it out since a group of his medical school colleagues wanted to all have dinner there. We were a large group so someone from the group called in to reserve a table. Upon entering there was no need to since the restaurant was kind of dead. We got shown to our table and were given drink menus and a bunch of menus. If you have ever been to a seafood boil restaurant before, this one is no different. We decided to get a boiled bag of shrimp and oysters with Tangy Special blend and a basket of fried oysters. Everyone else ordered different dishes. We didn't have to wait long until we all started to receive our orders. The food came in hot. Overall, it was good. The flavor was good, there was enough seafood as you expect since you order by the pound. The atmosphere is really relaxed and clean. There are a lot of tables available. There is also an outside patio for when the warm weather starts coming. Our waitress was very nice and patient. She made sure our large group was well taken care of. The only negative thing I have to say is that it is a little more expensive than the Ocean Crab. read more

Randomly stopped in for dinner with a friend. The place is clean. Hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Our server was patient with all of our questions and decision making time. The lobster bisque was very good! It was creamy with quite a bit of shredded lobster and the Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing was really flavorful! The shrimp po'boy was nice. A little more bread ratio than lettuce and shrimp. The shrimp was lightly battered and fried and cooked appropriately. The sauce on the sandwich was mild. Fantastic new spot in Lansing ! I can't think of anywhere else around town to get a bagged seafood boil. I came opening week during lunch and there was a pretty decent crowd. All visible staff was wearing a mask and they are operating at 50% capacity at the moment. Service was good but not very memorable.Our server was nice but not very attentive. Other tables had a few issues that we overhead of, but it didn't affect our visit and I'm sure they will have those things worked out in time. The most important thing though is that the food was fantastic! This is where they really shined ! To start we had a flavorful clam chowder ($5) and a Caesar salad($5). We thought it was odd that it was served with the dressing on the side, but it was a quick thing for us to do. For entrees we shared the New Orleans Jamba ($38) and the Juicy Special ($36). For sauce we chose the tangy special which we learned was a mix of all the sauces so that was really good. We got one mild and one spicy. Spicy definitely had a kick , but it wasn't too much and wasn't as spicy as we thought it would be. Next time we will probably try fire! With that being said there will definitely be a next time! I hope this restaurant is here to stay! The food is where the three stars come from. It's not bad but it's not great. I didn't dislike my meal but I had to be accepting of the fact it was not what you'd get in a higher end place. The clam chowder was more like clam soup...but it still tasted good. The seafood marinara was on about par with cafeteria food but I don't mind cafeteria food so I wasn't put off by it. It's hard to find a good seafood restaurant in Mid Michigan, but Tangy Crab was an enjoyable experience. We opted for the "make your own" sea food boil, for which we chose scallops, shrimp and sausage. We ordered an extra corn on the cob too. For an appetizer we ordered the crab fries. Everything was tasty and our waiter was friendly and attentive, though it wasn't very busy at 4:00 on a Friday. I'm kind of surprised at some of the complaints -- I haven't been to a "real" seafood boil in the south but from what I've read and seen on cooking shows, they cook it in a galvanized steel bucket. For a crowd, that's a metal garbage can. The Tangy Crab just uses a small version in the form of a large pie pan for serving it. Then you just untie the bag and dump it in the pan and dig in! The butcher paper on the tables makes for a quick clean up. The crab fries were really good. My husband and I both said we could easily just order a couple of appetizers and be happy. We were finally back after a while. The restaurant wasn't busy on Sunday evening. I didn't order any seafood boil this time. We ordered garlic breadsticks & crab bites for appetizer. Don't recommend garlic breadsticks- they were served warm but so much excessive oil. Crab bites were delicious and served warm, I wasn't a fan of crab cakes but this crab bites made me eat more than usual. My husband ordered flounder basket; the fish wasn't fishy but a little bit of heat after taste (which he liked just wasn't sure what it was). My shrimp Po Boy was ok, nothing outstanding. I got a clam chowder as a side dish and it was yummy, a bit bigger portion than I imagined and filled me up fast. I wish I knew in advance that kind of shrimp Po Boy was hand breaded shrimp & with lettuce, I wouldn't order that, never a fan of hand breaded food and couldn't eat lettuce. I meant to do this review a while ago, but there really wasn't much to talk about. I was in the neighborhood and craving crab legs so we thought we would give this place a try. Yelp reviews seemed "ok", so we stopped. I guess it's a fairly popular dining establishment, because we were a little early for the dinner crowd and there was still an hour wait. And that was just a table for two. There's only two Tangy Crab locations. This one in Lansing, and another now in Flint. The way this place is decorated, it has the feel of a big chain restaurant. EVERYTHING is fishing, seafood, crab, lobster themed, one way or another. I get the idea but jeez. The way to order food is neat, but certainly not unique. There's been other previous crab restaurants that did the same thing. Basically a "boil" is where you pick from a list of seafood and sides that you want. Then you pick a seasoning. They put it together and make it. You pick from stuff like crab legs, lobster tail, clams, shrimp. Then sides are like potatoes, sausage, or corn on the cob. Then you can pick your seasoning like Cajun, garlic butter, or Old Bay. You also have to tell them how spicy you want it. Mild, spicy or fire. When your boil comes out, it's in a clear bag sitting in a metal tray. The idea is that you dump the contents of the bag into the tray and eat it from there. With all that nonsense out of the way, here's what I think........ 1. The blown up wastebasket liner is a quirky little gimmick. It not very practical and kinda messy. 2. The $15 price for that little cluster of crab is a crime. It takes two clusters to really feel like you ordered any crab, so that $30. And you haven't even added anything else to your "boil". I guess I filled up on all the potatoes and sausage. 3. The butcher paper on the tables is annoying. I understand the need for it, after everyone is dumping their drippy bags out. 4. I saw several tables searching for their waitstaff (including us) just to get waters refilled. I'm sorry that I feel like I'm trashing this place a bit. I usually try not to be negative, but I'm putting together the entire experience. Long wait time for a two person table, an awkward food presentation, overpriced food, and inattentive staff. Stopped here for a quick lunch/dinner on the way home to Cleveland OH - we both ordered the fried flounder basket - my side was the clam chowder - the husband opted for the lobster bisque - both were delicious and served nice and hot - the way soup should be - we also had the crab bites appetizer which was like having little crab cakes - the flounder was fried properly but the 3 pieces were too much to finish - we ended up paying near 40 bucks but took home flounder and crab bites so 2nd meal .. so the prices I feel are fair. read more
