The food was just okay. The biscuit was at 100%. I wanted two chicken legs. He automatically put two huge pieces of breast in my plate. I was pissed they didn't tell me they were out. Not good all around. Ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and potato wedges and went in for pickup a little after lunchtime. Walked in to see the guy behind the counter eating food that is sitting under the hot lamps right behind the front counter. Immediately kind of turned off. Got my bag and opened to find an original chicken sandwich and not a spicy one. Wish it was spicy because the original was all lettuce and tomato and paper thin chicken with no seasoning whatsoever. I was in the area, had a craving for chicken, and decided to stop in. So glad that I did. The restaurant is very clean and the chicken pieces are fresh, large and delicious! While waiting for my order I noticed they also had Mexican food - Yum!! I ordered some of that too, which was also delicious and authentic, which was a very welcome surprise. The worst chicken sandwich I have ever had, (thin as paper and as hard as cardboard) and then the owner (or at least claimed to be the owner) was rude and states that he does not want me to ever come back because if he looses me as a customer a hundred more will walk in the door. Wow!!! I wish I would have taken a picture of the chicken so I could post it and show you why I returned it. What a wasted lunch hour and then to be told that he could care less what his customers think because it does not matter if his food is terrible because he will just serve it to new customers instead. Well, pretty soon he won't have any more customers if that is the way he chooses to do business. So sad, when I ate there a few years ago it was actually good. Best chicken in town, and now Mexican menu too! We've been going to Cajun Joe's for years, but noticed how it was not as good as it used to be. I stopped in on the weekend for chicken and was pleased that the chicken was made to order, instead of sitting out for awhile. I also noticed the addition of Mexican items on the menu, and decided to add a couple of tacos to my order. Both items were excellen! The chicken was the best I've ever had from Cajun Joe's! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and worth every penny . Since the new ownership there is a massive improvement in the quality of food. I spoke to the new owner and he believes in small batch of chicken made more often. There has been times that I had to wait, but well worth it. I have been there once a month for the past 6 months and our family looks forward to the meal every time. So much so that we have "Cajun joes" night now. We are excited try the New Mexican offering. You never know, it might be another "dinner night" I believe that if a review is deserved, it should be given. If you want to give feedback, be brave enough to tell it to the people that can make the necessary changes (if warranted), because after all, their livelihood depends on it. read more

I came in Saturday afternoon after passing Chick-fil-A in Novi (line is still stupidly long) and was the only customer there. Looks like it was during a crew change. They had a lot of chicken that was pre-made, I'm guessing my order wasn't because it took 10 minutes. This was their #4? (could be wrong on the number) It was $9. My optimism as a first time customer was utterly destroyed when I went home to watch college football, opened the box, and saw this. Maybe Chicken Fingers isn't their thing. Haven't been there in sometime. While ordering was asked if corn muffins or biscuits. Got corn muffins. Then I looked at the pan and said expect the burnt one jokingly. There was a badly burnt one. Didn't think much of it at the time. Then watched him put gravy in container. It looked like it was thin. When I got home the gravy was just broth like. Obviously they didn't add starch or flour when making it. The roasted chicken also had peace's that were black not to the point of being burnt. Definitely been there a while. The corn muffins were hard as rock. Probably done with them. Definitely not the same as when it first opened. Definitely not worth the price. read more

So here's my story, I work in Troy but I don't have a car so I carpool out there from Ann Arbor. My friend who I usually ride with can't take me there one day because he has to catch an early flight somewhere. That day happens to be my last day of work and I sure as hell don't want to have to make it up on the following Monday. So I ask a fellow co-worker, who also happens to live in Ann Arbor, if I can ride with her. So here's where Brighton comes in. Apparently she can't take me all the way home because she's visiting her boyfriend in East Lansing (U of M and State cohabitation...gross) and can only take me as far as Brighton. Fortunately for me I know someone that can pick me up. Using Google Earth, I choose a location to wait for my friend. This is how I'm going to end up at Cajun Joe's. After I get back, I'll tell you how my culinary adventure went. Until then, I'll try to get through my day and hope that I don't get deluged with work on my last day. 8/4/07 Update So here I am the day after and I'm not impressed. I don't usually review places after only one visit because there's no way that you can sample everything in one day. I believe in second chances, so I guess this just counts as a first impression. However, my first impression is that this place is nasty and over-priced. Cajun Joe's is a little place that kind of works like a KFC or Popeye's only much MUCH slower. You're going to be waiting in line for a while if you want something substantial. I ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich that didn't taste too bad. I could tell it was authentic Southern cuisine because I felt really tired and heavy after eating it. Not good if you're trying to eat healthy, but great if you don't care about that sort of stuff (or if you're like me and you're doing it for shits and giggles). It was about $3.50 which is on the average side for anything burger-sized. However, the chicken (which I didn't have) was way too expensive. You're better off making it at home or going to KFC to find a better deal. Four pieces for over $6 is not my idea of a fair price. The restroom (the men's from what I saw) is pretty disgusting (although I've seen worse). The area around the toilet is wet. Everyone is too afraid to flush the toilet because they fear the germs they may get, which leaves a mixture of urine swimming in that porcelain bowl. Most importantly, the door wont close or lock. so pee at your own risk and do it fast lest someone bust in (it's a one toilet bathroom). All in all, my fist impression sucked. I would only go back there to split the price of the 4 piece with a friend, or to try the "Ugly Burger" which is a deep-fried burger. It sounds disgusting but if Andrew Zimmern can do it,so can I. This place has gone down hill. Everything looks like it's premade and sits out a long time under lights/on steam. Tried twice this year to give them the benefit of the doubt. First visit: I waited for 15 minutes with 1 person in front of me and then told standard chicken I was ordering would take approximately 20 minutes. 35 minutes to get food plus time to eat is a bit long for a run in chicken shack... I don't have this much time on lunch break and would not recommend if ever in a hurry. They can't seem to work through customers in parallel, it's always do one customer all the way through at snails pace and then start the next one. 2nd visit: Paid $5 for a small mashed potatoes and then when I asked where is the gravy, I had to pay another $2.50 separately for gravy. That's seems a little ridiculous that gravy doesn't come with mashed potatoes, when it's not separate on the sign. I understand things are tough due to pandemic, staffing, and inflation, but there's better food, with less cost and wait all over Brighton. I won't be back. read more

Last weekend we had ordered a serving of chicken that would feed 17-20 people. The chicken was supposed to be ready around 2pm and it wasn't ready until 2:30ish and the lights were off so it seemed like no one was there. When we got the chicken, there was barely enough to cover the bottom of the tray, and some of it was burnt. It was my understanding that they were short staffed, but we had placed this order in advance. If they were so short staffed that they couldn't fulfill this order, they should have contacted us. Reminds me of cajun cafes in New Orleans- no fuss, no pomp and circumstance, just really good food with great ingredients in a drive-up strip-mall. It appears that most people make this a take-out grab and go stop on their way home for dinner, but we decided to order at the counter and eat-in. I had the chicken gumbo with rice and a corn bread muffin for less than $5, while my hubby sampled the chicken strips, catfish strips, and mac & cheese. They were out of fried bone-in chicken when we ordered, but mostly because someone before us was basically catering their family dinner from whatever they had available at the time. Randomly looking for a spot to eat by my office. I'm very happy i came across this place. Not much in this city when you looking for fried chicken.. i order 2 pieces dark meat spicy and some fried crawfish . wasn't too much a fan of their coleslaw but I enjoyed everything else . Service was great , the lady at the counter was very polite. Wow...what a disappointing experience. I must say that we didn't try the food due to lousy customer service. First off, right when we walked into the place, 2 young teens working at the place scurried in the back for some reason. We were left standing there waiting for someone to acknowledge our presence as we heard a bunch of people on the back talking. Finally a young teen girl came out with this unenthusiastic attitude as if we were wasting her time from whatever it was she was doing in the back. As I told her I wanted a meal, she stood there hand on hip like I was taking too much time deciding which pieces i wanted. My DH asked about the Mac and cheese and asked for a sample which he told me was watery and unusually salty. The mashed potatoes were instant potatoes according to the girl - not surprising as this is a fast food type joint. The girl had such an attitude about her that I really didn't want to go on with my order as did my DH. I'm not sure what is up with Brighton, but the only decent establishments we've been to with decent food and service have been the diners. Is the whole Brighton restaurant/food scene run by entitled, spoiled teens that don't give a crap about what they do since mommy and daddy pay for everything? It's a shame. Literally, the miserable little girl working here took a menu, went in the back, crossed out the prices on the menu and HAND wrote in new prices they marked up by close to 20%!!! Then they tried to charge him additionally for a drink cup that comes WITH his meal too. Highway robbers and the food is par, step up from other unremarkable chicken chains, read the other reviews carefully. You'll pay a lot for VERY bad service and pretty average food. I have lived in the area all my life and have been wanting to try this place for years but it just never happened. Well, today the wait ended! The owner here is so super friendly and gave us a run down of menu items since this was our first time. It helped that we were alone in there too (it was a late lunch). They put a lot of care into making their food and it seems they make everything from scratch. It all looked and smelled amazing! We settled on fried chicken, fries, green beans, regular biscuits and corn bread muffins. My mother in law got some roasted chicken. I didn't mind the little bit of a wait because we had a good time chatting with the owner and another employee. The food was soooo good! Crispy, moist, perfectly seasoned chicken (if you've read my review of Holden's, this gave theirs a run for the money!). Green beans were good, they had a pleasant sweetness that I can't put my finger on... The biscuits and corn muffins....oh lord, definitely homemade and I dont think I could pick one over the other! MIL says the roasted chicken was great too but I didn't try it. Overall we paid about $24 for 10 pieces of chicken (5 breast, 3 wings, 2 thighs) 2 large sides and 4 biscuits. Not bad if you ask me and very well worth the money! I look forward to my next visit and definitely won't wait so long to go back! read more

Went here for a late lunch for the first time. No greeting when I walked in, even though the place was dead. The staff seemed bored or almost slightly annoyed I was there. I ordered a spicy chicken wrap and it arrived in about 4 minutes. It was pretty large, but it was very bland. I was hoping for some chicken tenders or something to get a good crunch, but it was just cut up pieces of what looked like breast meat. It was all soft and ranch-dressing. Not a very interesting bite. All I ever tasted was cheese, ranch and chicken. The lettuce and tomato was an after thought and was so sparse it was laughable they even remembered to include it. The "spicy" part of the "spicy chicken wrap" was just bottled hot sauce they put on -- which just tasted like vinegar. All in all, I am unimpressed. Perhaps I should've been wiser and gotten the fried chicken since it seems to be their specialty. If their fried chicken is that great, then they should just take the other stuff off the menu. The chicken here is very good, it comes either regular or spicy.. The BBQ sandwich is really REALLY good. The "ugly burger" is a deep fried hamburger and for how bad it is for you, it's not worth the flavor, it's actually bland. My favorite thing here is the Gumbo and its best over a bit of rice. The broccoli bites are also a must try. Oh, the Cod dinner is also very good. Overall this is a nice little hole-in-the wall restaurant with a decent variety of things to eat. read more

I absolutely love Cajun Joes. They deserve six stars. I have been eating here since I was a kid I'm 27 now and it's still awesome and delicious. The chicken is fresh from the fryer and always crispy. The sides are also very good. I would recommend the 2 piece meal with gumbo and makes potatoes. The gumbo is really my favorite. Big chunks of chicken and vegetables. Just the broth is amazing. I always get it with rice on the bottom. The place is small and cozy with hot rod and nascar memorabilia on the walls. What a find! My office got food for a luncheon from them, and it was awesome! So I took my daughters there for a dinner and we all loved it. Super crispy, juicy chicken wings, nicely spiced potato wedges, lovely flaky home made biscuits! The staff are quick, helpful and friendly. I really like that they use fresh, no hormone chicken, and I don't mind if I have to wait 10-12 minutes for a freshly cooked batch. We all needed a good wash afterwards, but I wouldn't consider that a problem =D read more
