So I will start off by saying I am one of those people who does my research and asks wayyyy too many questions before I agree to anything. With that being said, I had already seen yelp reviews regarding the cancellation policy as well as what is required when you initially sign up (initiation fee, purchase of goggles etc.) so I cannot say if those items would have been explained to me if I was not super annoying, but in this day and age if you do not do your due diligence before signing a 6 month contract that is somewhat on you as a consumer.. Now as far as customer service I have had a great experience. Like I said earlier I am super annoying and Alex has always been so patient answering all my questions with a smile, gave me options and opinions on a new lotion, and explaining the perks of being a member vs one time visits. The facility is also very clean and maintained with ample number of beds so I have never had to wait. Very pleased so far especially with the reoccurring monthly cost being only $20! read more

I love this business because they have the nicest and most helpful people here and so many ways to tan. Their equipment is so state of the art. My favorite is the mystic tan booth which gets me major tan! Brenda helped me tonight with tips & tricks on mystic tan prep I didn't know after using it for 10 to 12 years. Didn't know there was a special way to use blocking cream on feet & hands, make fists to protect fingers & cuticles from over-staining and position arms in certain way for best coverage. Also didn't realize they had pads for bottoms of feet cuz mine really stain. They work. Brenda is a sweetie and makes coming here feel warm and inviting. All the girls are great. The people that work at Tanning Co make sure the customer is always right. So to write this rude review off of a misunderstanding is not right. I have been coming to Tanning Co for a few years now. I usually like to get packages because I get a great value for my dollar. I have had amazing experiences here. Brenda for example has been very helpful to me when I show up. She always makes sure I am set for my session. Very professional and even goes the extra mile! I was here one evening and I lost my phone. I couldn't get home, so she offered to call me a Uber. I really appreciated this because it made me realize that Brenda did not just see me as a customer, but as a friend. I plan on continuing to renew my packages at this place. I love this place! I've been coming here for a few years. The staff and owner are so helpful and really have your safety in mind. Cleanliness is for sure 5 stars, the place is just great all around. They provide you with towels every visit that you put into a hamper on your way out. The girls are super sweet and everybody is knowledgeable. I'm appalled that someone with such an attitude owns a business and treats the customers like you just treated me. I came in wearing scrubs from working in the medical field, exhausted and just wanted to tan. Why would you be so mean to me? About two months ago I purchased an unlimited $40 package. I was informed that it had three different beds I could choose from, BUT, NOT THAT THEY they will choose the bed I go into. The owner proceeded to be extremely rude when I asked her if she could possibly move me into a bed with facial bulbs. I was not aware I have to rotate beds and she was very rude and seemed pissed off in explaining it to me. I was confused as to why I'm paying $40 a month when there was 3 beds I CAN choose from all to find out NO they choose it for you. She got upset and explained to me that it cost $30 to tan in that bed and the package I have rotated me and I would have to go in the bed with no facial bulbs. She explained, I am only able to skip the stand up bed and what makes me think I can tan in the expensive bed all the time? I told her I just don't like the stand up bc I work and I'm on my feet all day. I also informed her that CANCER RUNS IN MY FAMILY AND I WOULD LIKE A BED WITH FACIAL BULBS TO PROTECT MY FACE BETTER. She said you can ONLY skip stand up but you CANT skip the one with no facial bulbs. That's fine, but, it would be nice to explain that to the customer. She said VERY RUDELY it doesn't benefit us to tell you that this package is rotational. I explained to her, no it actually benefits US as customers to know the full details of a package we are purchasing. I don't know why Gina kept telling me I'll roll the tapes back?? (I was thinking in my head....Like roll them back do what you got to do but I'm telling you I was not informed I couldn't choose the bed I would like to go in). Wasn't a big deal I'm just trying to understand my package. This lady I swear I asked her if she was having a bad day for the way she was treating me. I shouldn't have did that. I must have set her off more! She had the audacity to be like I'm giving you what you're giving me!!! Excuse me? Oh no it gets better.... then this lady preceded to yell at me and threaten me. I have been going to this salon for a couple of years and have a VIP membership. The team knows me by name and is always engaging and friendly to talk to. The beds are always top notch and great bulbs and quality and the salon is super clean and meticulous. There is no better, more affordable salon in the Bay Area! If you are looking for a bed, or Mystic, this is the place to go. They put you on a rotational system, so you receive the best, long-lasting tan and plenty of parking. My first tanning experince at a tanning salon was here. I was first introduced here by two of my girlfriends and then I found out another girlfriend of mine often tans here as well. They're have a very friendly staff and the salon is very clean. Extra brownie points there indeed =D I come and tan for about 8-10mins and always get their gorgeous gam, which is one of their tanning lotions for $5 ^ ^ Gives you that extra boots of tanning. It's $13 for 30mins or you can pay $19.99 for unlimited tanning for a month ! What a deal ! read more

This place is extremely clean and the equipment is nice, but their whole sales pitch blows. They sell you on the most expensive bed package $90/month or reel you in with the $19/month package and then con you into buying credits. The credit system is a scam. They charge like 10 credits per minute you tan, 10 min = 100 credits / $22!!!! per tan. plus your monthly fee. They also need to change their hours on their website and door to read, "we close at 9pm but will turn you away at 8:30pm even if you only tan for ten minutes".....I will never go here again and will never recommend anyone. read more

After my first experience with tanning last year, I wanted to give it ago for the beginning of summer. I'm lucky enough to tan quickly, and stay tan for a long time. I signed up for the one month unlimited package (just over $100). I went most days on my lunch break, and out of the whole month only had to wait for "my" stand up booth twice - not bad. The woman who helped me most days (wish I had caught her name) was friendly and helpful. She offered suggestions on how long I should go in, gave me samples of other lotions to try, and complimented how well my tan was coming in. The tanning salon had 20 rooms with a variety of stand up, lay down and spray tan booths. It was clean and well lit. Minus one star because I had to buy protective eyewear. The only other salon I've been to had them available for clients to use. Now that my month is over, my glasses have been tossed under my bathroom sink. I'll definitely be back next May to get my summer tan on! read more

Pretty good beds. A little annoyed when I went there the first time.. the owner walked me around and showed me the beds, went over membership pricing but failed to mention the start up fee.. She compensated by giving me more credits so that was nice. Felt a little hokey though when I was getting started. She asked if I had lotion, I said yes. She asked for the bottle so I handed it to her. She sniffed it and told me that the tanning agents were about to go bad and suggested i hurry up and use it so I could buy a new bottle. If you are TAN-orexic (like me) then you will love this palce. I know tanning is bad for you and causes cancer but I LOVE LOVE LOVE being tan! I came here because I had an event to go to and needed to be tan QUICK...they showed me all the types of beds that they have. They even ones that have aromatheraphy and air conditioning inside! Talk about luxury!!! I spoke to the girl who worked there and I told her I wanted the most UV rays possible! MAKE ME TAN I told her! She reccomended the stand up bed. I stepped in the room and in the tanning bed and it was REALLY CLEAN. They have hardwood floors and there wasn't even a speck of dust on the ground! Plus they have towels in each room to cover your face or wipe your hands. That bed was STRONG! I am a frequent tanner and I was DARK in 10 minuteds of being in there. After this expierence I decided to become a memeber. For no joke $20 a month I get UNLIMITED tanning! That is about as good as it gets! Plus if you are a member they send you deals and give you 15% off lotions and ungrades! If you are like me and need to be tan this is the ONLY place to go! read more

I've been tanning on and off for about 8 years and have been to different tanning salons. This one works a little differently than others that I've been to. You can purchase credits which can be used by minutes and the strength level of the bed you choose or you can purchase a membership. I chose to purchase the $20 monthly membership, which has a year contract or there are other options but I'm not sure of the specs. I like that they have many rooms so there's never a wait, the rooms have towels and they stay open till 9pm on weekdays. I wish the rooms had mirrors (partly because I like to see my tan right away) but other than that I drive a little further from my house for the great deal and being able to walk in for a tanning session. read more

Best tanning salon in Contra Costa! I had a yelp review on this tanning salon before but I deleted my yelp account for a while. This place is extremely clean which I love. They offer several beds and mystic tans but I have a membership for unlimited tanning for $20 a month. Where can you get unlimited tanning for $20?...NO Where! I have never been pressured in to buying anything at this salon. My only complaint about this salon is that even though they offer high quality tanning lotions they do not carry very many tanning lotions without bronzers. I am very fair skinned and sometimes I like to have a little color so I don't blind people. I tan fairly easy but some tanning salons I have been to in the past have burned my skin and have caused hives. I have been using this tanning salon off and on for a year or so. The owner listens to any concerns you have about your skin and is careful to make sure your skin tans and not burn. All of the people that work at this salon are friendly and I will continue with my membership here. read more

I worked for a very "high end" tanning salon for years, where we had the best beds and products along with competitive prices but when I relocated I found this gem. WOW their basic beds are wonderful for such an even more wonderful price. The salon in new and modern. They have a variety of beds to choice from but to be honest their basic bed is by far worth it. I don't think I care about the new fancier ones they have. I do have one complaint- the hygiene of the beds could use some work. The towels they give for personal use could be updated because they look kinda ragged and when going to a place that is solely for image I think everything should play along including the small details such as towels. read more

I am not sure why the other two people who reviewed this place had bad experiences. My experience with this place has been wonderful from the start. When I cam in the girl at the counter, although 10 years younger than me, was knowledgeable on the beds and the products. She guided me through the process and helped me decide what to pick. Once I signed up and picked my contract I went to tan. I go about 1-2 times a week and have never found the place to be so busy that I have to wait for a bed. The desk girls always look at my previous tanning history and see what the next step for me is. I am very please with this place and would recommend it to anyone. The staff was always very knowledgeable not only about the tanning beds but about the tanning lotions as well (even the new ones that just came out). I couldn't talk more highly about this company and how they treat their customers! First, the store is always clean and immaculate! The staff has always remembered my name which I think I just crazy with all their customers. Gina is passionate about their services and products and has always explained the particular bed I'm getting into or told me what lotions will suit my needs for the type of tan I'm after. Brenda is always refreshing to come in and say hi to. I've tanned in surrounding areas and they all have been less clean or dingy with prices at least 20 more for the monthly membership. I found great value and quality in the bulbs they use and how they maintain them. Never have I had an experience where the bulbs were old and I didn't feel like I got a quality tan. I wish all businesses took such pride in their services like these guys do! I've never used the tanning beds because I am as blonde and pale as they come and burn in seconds BUT, their mystic tan is the best around! I now live in Lafayette and will drive clear out to Clayton every time. I have been to almost every spray tan booth between Danville, Pleasant Hill, Orinda and Concord and this place uses the best spray formula, I think. Most other places leave my hands, cuticles and heels the most obvious shade of orange and after some research I learned that, although they may use the same type of booth, they are buying cheaper spray formulas! So, ya, you can find a cheaper spray tan, but you will look like it too. The booth here is always clean, the room is a comfortable temperature, and the girls who work at the desk are happy and friendly. Make sure to pay the extra $2.00 for the sticky foot thingies - they keep the bottom of your feet from soaking up too much tanning solution. read more

2nd time I went in to buy 30 day tanning pkg, again i was being upsaled. Again they wanted me to purchase eye goggles for 6 bucks after filling out an intrusive app. 1st time i went there they wanted me to purchase an entire face mask. I asked why, i cover my face with a towel, i was told it was a FDA policy. My question is, "if it's a FDA policy, why doesn't The Tanning Co., provide them for free like all the other tanning places do? Bottom line I wasn't able to tan there again because I'm on a fixed budget and only had enough to tan not the extra stuff that is usually provided for free from other tanning salons. I went back to Perfect Tan where i paid less and no hassle. The beds at The Tanning Co might be great, idk never had a chance to try them but then again I never had a problem getting an awesome tans anywhere else either. read more

I previously left a 5-star review because Gina used to help me out and she's wonderful! But I've been a member for 4+ years and now that she doesn't work that many hours, it's a bummer that the customer service has dropped off a bit. For the record, all the staff except Brenda are nice, it's just that Gina was exceptionally accommodating and knowledgable. I finally decided to cancel my membership a while after Gina reduced her hours and I called three times and got three different answers about the requirements for cancellation. I called today to see if they got my cancellation letter and Brenda was so ridiculous and obtuse. She couldn't answer any of my questions (she was just guessing answers that changed every time I asked the same question), she was incredibly rude, she contradicted herself over and over again, she interrupted a ton, and when I asked her to have the person that processes cancellations call me back, she told me I don't need to know who the managers are and hung up on me. I called back and she told me I'm rude and she's recording my call. I'm not sure how old she is, but if you've ever dealt with a bratty teenager, that was this conversation. I kept trying to tell her it's not her fault that she doesn't know about cancellations because she doesn't process them, but I just need to talk to someone who does... I wanted to yell, "LET ME TALK TO A GROWNUP!" (I didn't.) All my attempts to deescalate the situation, move the conversation in a positive direction, and find a solution were met with her whining and giving nonsense answers. You know, Brenda has helped me when I come in for a tan, and she has complained multiple times about other customers getting upset with her... Turns out they were probably just reasonable people trying to get, you know, customer service. She must get a lot of complaints. The facility is still top-notch, and the manager Gina did give me a follow-up call right after the holiday weekend. She was really nice, but she just said everyone's upset and no one's wrong. She did tell me that she almost contacted her legal team about my Yelp review, and when I asked her if that was a threat, she didn't answer. So, that was awkward. I would have loved to change this back to a 5-star review because Gina took full responsibility and promised it will never happen again (which I've done with other businesses), but unfortunately that didn't happen. I still think Gina is a lovely, wonderful person, but if the customer service isn't consistent, and I don't feel confident it will get better, I can't ethically leave a great review. The staff here are so friendly! I remember when I first stumbled in, the young curly haired worker was very, very knowledgeable about tanning. My questions ranged from health concerns, to price differences, to what type of lotions to use. She was able to answer every question and talk me into a membership! - Every time you walk in the staff welcomes you by name and they are so helpful if you need anything. - Prices are fair and you usually pay for the price of your membership like 3-5 visits .. I think. -The facilities are very clean, staff is seen constantly cleaning the bed with disinfectant. The manager, Genie is an angel and has the most helpful one of them all. So it's been some time, I decided to wait a little while after going here to write this review. I went to the tanning Salon for over a year...never had an issue. I stayed with them through the beginning of COVID when I was being charged and could barely go in because their hours were messy because I understood. COVID was hard to get around and messed everyone and their business up. However, my issues started as soon as I wanted to end my services with them. First, in order to cancel, the main older lady running the place says you have to "mail-in" your resignation??? You can't drop it off, you have to type it up and mail it...to the same location...which make absolutely no sense. I have been to many tanning salons, gyms, nail techs etc...not one ever had me "mail-in" anything in order to cancel. I swear they do this just so they can charge you one more time before it anctually cancels. Me, being the smarty pants I am thought, "Nah, I don't think so", I called my bank ahead of time after I mailed my letter and told them to block any charges they might make to my card. Low and behold, I get a call from the older lady about.. a month after I sent my letter telling me my card was declined and I told her exactly what I did. She got all upset, got really dramatic and acted like I did the biggest betrayal...over taking charge of my money. She then said I was no longer aloud to go there...a customer of over a year...she lost all because I didn't wanted to be chargered for a month I wasn't going to use...good one. read more
