I've been here twice so far. I don't use tanning beds anymore so I like how they have spray tan available. They use mystic tan which works great. The only thing I wish was that I can call ahead to reserve the spray tan so I didn't have to wait so long. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. I needed to get an airbrushed spray tan for a recent trip to Vegas, and searched around on Yelp before making an appointment. I'm SO glad I went here! The place is extremely clean with a calming atmosphere. The owner discussed color options with me upon arriving and recommended the perfect shade for my skin color. She also went over all the details of how long to wait before showering after the tan, what skin products not to use, etc.... I felt extremely comfortable during the whole process, which is surprising given that you have to strip down completely in front of a total stranger. Before she began she applied a barrier cream to my hands and feet as well as a "pre-spray" to help deepen and even out the spray tan. During the spray tan, she directed me to stand in various positions and she took her time to make sure there were no missing spots. Before finishing she had me check to make sure it was the color I was hoping for, and the whole process took about 15 minutes! She was super chatty and friendly during the spray tan, which helped with the potential awkwardness of it all =) I got so many compliments throughout my vacation on how bronzed and tan I looked (it was so real looking that people were surprised that it was a spray tan!). It lasted evenly for a full 7 days. I will come back here for all my future spray tan needs!! read more

Best spray tan in the area! I probably get this only 3-4 times per year and im not sure why i dont go more often! I have to admit that the anxiety i get after the spray tan is terrible..."it didnt get my whole body" "my left arm is completely dry" "i didnt position my inner left thigh correctly" i get so nervous that i didnt feel the spray cover my entire body... but then 6 hours later i look like a bronzed beauty!! Lol but i swear.. even though the spray machine doesnt hit every single spot, i always love the way i look after. This is literally my favorite spray tan ever... somehow it always blends in with my natural skin. Now on to the best part, the price. Not going to mention specifics here, trust me- half the price of other places... and if this review screws me and prices go up im going to hate myself for helping you ladies out!! After being a member for 5+ years, moving out of the area and barely going in to tan, I still stayed loyal- my automatic payment was attempted 1 time yesterday, now today I am charged again with the amount due +$10 late fee- no phone call - after I called to find out what happened and try to see why the late fee when I had $ in the account but maybe not for 20 minutes before I transferred between accounts Gina explained they have no way of calling because they have a company that does billing etc ...*this has never happened before I have never been late. ..she doesn't even offer to waive the fee- then i say I'm going to cancel and she reminds me that if I cancel won't get the same deal.. wow! I have been a member here for almost 6 years and I would never tan anywhere else! This place is by far the best tanning or spray tan spot in contra costa county! The salon is ALWAYS VERY CLEAN, I can not stress that enough coming from a clean freak lol...... all of the equipment is top of the line and the bulbs are frequently changed. The owner Gina as well as the other employees have been soo helpful and knowledgeable about how and why each tanning lotion works best for you. If given the option, I honestly would have given 0 stars after the way I was treated at The Tanning Co.! Starting off, the plans are ridiculously expensive for the services given. The most basic plan using the most common beds is $70 for a month of tanning. Of course, they won't give you a quote or even a flyer confirming this price so that you can shop around and find better plans. For that price, I could have purchased a gym membership at the In Shape a mile away and tacked on a tanning plan and have money to spare. Furthermore, they're really pushy on getting you to purchase their extremely overpriced tanning lotions. They hounded me for a week when I delayed purchasing one. However, once I purchased one, I quickly found out the lotion I used was triggering an allergic reaction and I obviously could not return the product. When I mentioned the allergic reaction and my choice not to tan with it anymore, I got constant judging and nagging from the staff about their free-radical pseudoscience for a week. I dreaded going into the building for about two weeks after the way they they acted. They like to change their store hours with little to no warning. For instance, on Halloween they closed at 5 pm instead of 9 pm. Now I understand that some business like to close early, but they should have given more than a days warning about closing early. News flash, not everyone tans everyday and will be able to change plans in time. But the biggest betrayal, which tipped the scales for me, is in their treatment of me today. Yesterday, I was informed that my last day to tan would be today. However, when I checked in and was already in the tanning bed room, the attendant called me back when and informed me that my membership had already expired. I was told I had one more day left, and I protested this but was denied. There was no reason given for why I couldn't tan today. There was no apology given for cheating me a day. Between the lack of apology and the reduced hours on Halloween, I FEEL BETRAYED BY THIS COMPANY. Therefore, I urge you to think twice about using The Tanning Co.! They are an overpriced, judgmental, inconsiderate, and unapologetic company that ended up being a total mistake. If you're considering going here, save your money and go some place better. read more

Clean and corporate. Not very flexible for people that are tanning for health reasons and need support in the claustrophobic tanning coffins. We had to get a refund on our tanning package. Fortunately, they gave us most of the money back. That's okay. We found a better place anyway. read more

So this $20 a month payment is BS!!!! You only pay $21.99 AFTER you pay around $100 (thats if you don't need to purchase lotion) just to be a member! From there you pay $21.99 a month (REGARDLESS of when you started - I signed up near the end of the month, 7 days later, after paying $140, I had to pay the $21.99 AGAIN!!!) And the nicer beds are only if you have credits, meaning more $$$. $20 a month ontop of your membership fee and you get the lowest beds to choose from. I'm unhappy with the lotion they "incouraged" me to buy. Once I was sent to a room only to get my door knocked on and told to switch rooms (I was already completely undressed by this time) so i asked if the person could switch meto this room (the room SHE told me to go to) since I was already undressed. She just walked away. I got completely redressed only to be told I was fine in the room I was in. Did I mentiion there are ZERo mirrors in this place. After I tan I like to make sure I didn't miss any spots, and ofcourse check my make-up and hair since I usually am going somewhere afterwards. No Mirrows. There aren't even head rests in the beds. I went to a much smaller, mom & pop tanning place before and even they could aford to supple eye goggles and head rests in the beeds along with a mirror. I've been to several different tanning solons over time. This one may have many more beds, but the only ones my membership gets me are the cheap, low wattage beds. DISAPPOINTED. But so far they are pretty clean. 2 stars for that because it is important. The people are really nice for the most part, too. read more

At 4pm today, I had my first Mystic Tan at the Tanning Co. (It was a fun experience, and so quick I could not believe I was done!) Then, I went to a movie; totally forgot about the tan. By 8pm, I looked in the mirror. Reaction: Wow! I look so... radiant! My tan has already developed into a nice golden brown glow. My skin feels smooth and conditioned and there is barely any scent from the tanning solution. The staff at the Tanning Co was fantastic-- extremely friendly and helpful. The spray-booth I used was private, clean, and the directions were easy to follow. I will definitely go back! Or should I say, glow back. read more

I bought a groupon here and went once and only once. In 20 years of tanning I have NEVER had someone tell me what bed I HAD to go in. When the fine print stated "up to 5 levels of tanning" apparently that is not what they meant. I was told I MUST start in the level 1 bed and work my way up and that they would choose what bed I use. Not only was the woman rude and condescending but telling me I MUST tan in a low level bed when Im already tan is a waste of my time. Luckily groupon refunded most of my money. I was trying to find a new tanning place since moving to Walnut Creek and went to this place based off what I read on Yelp. I heart Yelp. They have a lot of newer beds and they were always clean. The two different ladies I encountered behind the front desk - one was young and she was super sweet and actually remembered my name. The second lady was a little bit older and needs to work on her customer service skills. I got suckered into signing a "contract" where it a monthly fee for six months, plus an "enrollment" fee. Then you have to pay for your tanning minutes on top of that with "credits". The credits are ridiculously expensive. What happened to just walking in and tanning in a bed for a set price determined by the quality of the bed? None of this minutes and contract crap. I no longer tan there because it's too expensive but I still have that stupid monthly fee taken out - I'm going to see what I can do about cancelling that. It's my own fault for signing the contract, I know. But I didn't realize in the long run how much it would cost me! read more

I like this place the staff is very friendly and always remember my name, its clean and prices are decent. My only complaints are the music choices there's only like four stations to choose from and most of them sound like elevator music. Also the whole having to write a letter thing to cancel is a little ridiculous if I'm telling you in person, then there shouldn't be any questions or confusion...i just think its unnecessary, and a pain. Tanning Co is very beautiful on the inside with newer beds & very clean rooms but for me it was kind of dark & dim! I like tanning rooms that are bright! The reason for my 2 stars is because I had gotten tingle lotion on me from an improper cleansing of a bed & when I told the manager she gave me the run around that it possibly couldn't have been from an employee not cleaning the bed & perhaps it was a sunburn!! haha .. I loved that one! I have only been tanning since I was 17.. I did appreciate the fact that a much younger employee apologized for what happened! I got an unlimited package and only used less than a handful of times! I didn't get much color and I didn't extend my tanning package because I had been to wayyyy better salons! read more

Be forwarned...if you sign up and want to stop your contract you have to send by way of certified mail ($5.75) a letter indicating that you no longer want their services. That is so stupid. I walked in there told them to cancel my membership and she said you have to send a letter to the place (which is where I was standing at telling them I don't want my membership anymore) via certified receipt. Do not buy anything from these people! I tried several times to get them to stop billing me after my six month contract was up and received nothing but rudeness! I called and said I want to stop the $19.99 a month as I will no longer be tanning for a while and they said you have to come in to do that. No problem, I come in and they change their mind to, "You have to cancel via certified mail with a 30 day notice." I don't understand why I cannot just cancel a rediculous tanning contract. The girl said "You initialed here." Something about billing me forever until they receive the cancellation letter and she said they will now charge me for six more months! Even if I write them a letter! Are they so hard up for cash that they have to treat their customers like that? Unbelievable. read more

I am not one to tan so my only review is for customer service. Every time I have been in the ladies are always very nice and knowledgable. I went in with a very bizarre rash (don't worry not contagious) called Pityriasis rosea. After reading up on the rash, many people mentioned their rash cleared up a lot faster by going tanning. I went in for purely medical reasons and the lady that helped me answered a bunch of questions I had and helped me figure out how long I should tan for and how often. I haven't been in a few months because the rash is gone. Hopefully, the rash never returns but if it does I would have no problem going back. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is SPOTLESS and I have never had to wait for a bed/booth. Sadly, I am relocating to SoCal and will need to find a new salon. The whole staff is courteous and NEVER tried to upsell me on anything. I had a 1 year/pd monthly subscription. I NEVER had an issue with erroneous charges or anything. If I ever called with a question they were all knowledgeable about the policies. They also have the most generous hours 7 days a week with the rare holiday closure. Love this place! They just got a new spray tan machine here with a fan so you dry right after you spray. It's amazing. The manager and girls that work here are all super nice and knowledgeable, and I love how clean and nice it is inside. Also I don't bed tan anymore, but if I still did...Id be here everyday. They have 20 rooms for bed tanning and all the machines are really nice and new. One of the nicest tanning salons I've ever belonged too, and I'm a seasoned vet! read more
