The experience wasn't very good. First, I arrived without a mask, as is done in literally every restaurant in Indy, and they refused to seat me. I'd be okay with that, but the bar was completely full, and NO ONE was wearing a mask. So what, they only require a mask for walking 10 ft to your seat? Okay, done, fine. But then the service was atrocious. We had to wait 40 minutes to get our beers. I understand cocktails taking a long time, but Beer? Cmon. The beers were okay at best, nothing very special. Sun King in North Indy is better. Not to mention all of the staff were rude. Plenty of better bars in Bloomington, would certainly not recommend. read more

I've been here multiple (5+) times in the past year or so, mostly getting a drink with friends from out of town or family visiting. This place is great if you enjoy beer, but I'd avoid getting food while you're here. I've ordered various food items off the menu, all of which ranged from pretty mediocre to sub-par. 1) The Charcuterie & Cheese Board - it's hard to mess up a Charcuterie board, to be frank. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't the best I've had even in town. Cardinal Spirits' just tastes fresher and is more generous with their spreads/portions, for roughly the same price. 2) The Tap Fries - these seem to be "legendary" among regulars here. The fries themselves are good - cooked well, not too crunchy. The sauces they come with are great as well. However, my one complaint is they sprinkle a spice blend over the top of the fries before they serve (it appears to be mainly paprika). This wouldn't be a problem if they TOSSED the fries in this spice blend, but instead they just sprinkle it heavily over the top, leaving the top layer of fries 80% paprika and the rest of the fries essentially untouched. They should just toss them in a bowl before sending them out to ensure an even coating. 3) Fried Green Beans - these are good. Crunchy, the sauce is good. The second time I got them, however, they were greasier than they had been the last time, to where 1/3 of the serving was inedible. 4) Mac 'N' Beer Cheese Burger - this one was the worst for me, as it was the one I looked forward to most. The burger itself was just bland and dry and the mac 'n' beer cheese did little to relieve that. I found myself salting my burger in an attempt to get it to taste a little better, but it wasn't enough. Greated and quickly sat at 5:45pm. Easy going crowd but lots of open seating. My waitress greeted me super fast and brought me their Kill The Lights Imperial Stout which I found harsh, she let me do a small taster first so I just told her what I liked and she brought me a Youngs Double Chocolate stout, perfection. Ordered the Beer Cheese Steak w side of kettle chips, fresh made in house and tasty without being too salty. Beer Cheese Steak - meat was perfect, no gristle or fatty meat, all good tasty thin slices cuts. Some inion but not over vegged. The cheese was Ohilly style and tasty. Had the chicken sandwich and it had good flavor and was cooked well, still juicy. The fries were good they were seasoned well but could've been mixed in better as some parts were very heavy others were light. The garlic aioli served with most dishes was pretty good, not too much but added just the right amount of flavor. Well great, you have an awesome selection of beers on draft and in bottles, and a pretty liberal taking food in policy. Is it older adults? Cool! You have great hours (not just evenings) and a new upscale food menu! Is is undergrads, ready to scream and yell at TV screens? Well perfect, because the intensely loud music, (whether live or recorded), microphones (on nights w/live music or trivia) and the lack of sound absorption with your tall ceilings make it literally impossible for me to enjoy my craft beer. If I want to drink until I don't care about volume or hearing what the person next to me is saying, there are plenty of other places I can go in Bloomington. On numerous occasions, I literally have been hoarse the following day after spending an hour or two at the Tap. The beer is good, the prices are OK, and service has been hit or miss every time (opposite ends of the spectrum - either fantastic or pretty abysmal). We had the firecracker shrimp (tasty but could have been spicier) and the pulled pork potato chips which were so bad and yet so good- homemade potato chips with pulled pork, barbecue sauce, sour cream, cheese, green onions and more. What a great selection of beer on tap! They offered many beers on tap that I had never heard of. I went there on a Friday afternoon and the place had an enjoyable, laid-back feel. For the quality of beer that they offer, their prices aren't bad. This is a cool place. At first, I was disappointed that they don't serve food. The more I think about it though, it is nice that they allow you to save money by bringing your own food. I suppose the policy feels awkward to me because it is different. A brewery in the middle of the square. A fave of college students. We came on a Friday night for some drinks and to enjoy some music. Each Friday, they feature a musician who plays right above the bar in his own little space. Our bartender was very nice and never failed to let the drinks run low. Coming from dinner, we only ordered The Tap Fries to share because we really like the 4 sauces that it comes with. My boyfriend managed to become besties with the guy next to him after about 3 or 4 beers. Pretty upbeat atmosphere at night with either the musician playing or the music bumpin'. It's the law, but there are plenty of other establishments in the vicinity that take a more laid back approach in that they don't bar you from bringing a kid in if it's a BABY that still gets carried around in an INFANT seat. I appreciate the concept. A huge bar with lots of seating, a lot of tables for more seating room AND they don't get bogged-down serving food. Wha?!?!?! No food?? The Tap does not serve food. BUT, they have a menu for 4 local restaurants that will deliver food to you! You just call in your order, give them your seating chart #, which is provided on the menu, and voila! You will eat food when it arrives. I haven't ordered food when I've been there but I noticed that the menu covers all 4 major food groups: Pizza, Wings, Burgers and Tacos. Big fan of this spot in downtown Indianapolis. Large so never trouble finding space, even on the finals of the March madness tournament. They brew their own beer and have a ton of options, even with a tasting room off the side. They let you do flights of their brews. Hence the name of this establishment they have a ton of beer on tap. Pretty recently priced as well. Food-wise they have somewhat standard bar food but definitely elevated and tasty. Definitely has a slick feel to it, loudish music playing, and a younger crowd but older folks don't feel out of place and not a college bar. read more
