I left not being able to stop thinking about the Blueberry Smash sandwich (chorizo, blueberry bacon jam, garlic basil mayo, arugula, bleu cheese, on a brioche bun), chefs kiss! Old time bar in a well-worn building with a separate dining room that's more spacious and quieter. My review is more for the food, since the beer I tried was my third choice. Decent enough. Wings: Smoked but didn't have that smoked wing taste or feel. They were definitely tender and moist, but definitely not crisp. My sauce (sesame honey sriracha) was a nice blend with a little heat and sweet, with neither dominating. Sesame was AWOL. Not bad, but the lack of crispness lost a chance to impress more. Smoked Brisket and Chorizo Chili: A small-ish serving somewhat concealed by the thick, droopy layer of cheese stretching across the top of the crock. Really nice flavor from the chorizo and peppers, but I didn't notice a smoke presence. Despite the crumbled bits of meat, more of a heated salsa feel than chili. Again, not bad, but nothing I'd get again. The Holburger: Now THIS one came through in flying colors. So rare in these days of smashburger dominance to see a thick burger (they do smashburgers too), and this was exceptionally juicy and brought good flavor from the brisket/shortrib blend and the grill itself. Bacon was only slightly crisp, but that's how I want it on a burger. Potent blue cheese. All of the flavors blended really nicely. Bun a white-bready version of brioche. A gigantic pile of fries (I think hand-cut) had the right crispness and droopiness. And to make it even better, on weekdays from noon to 4pm this burger-and-fries plate, with the addition of a draft beer is a dollar LESS. Good burger, good deal. Mixed bag so far, but that burger will bring me back to try more. Though they seem to be a little understaffed, service was friendly on two separate visits. read more

Had a great dinner last night at The Tap. The patio out back is perfect on a beautiful evening and the service was very quick. Our server was able to explain some of their different beers and the Pale Ale and IPA were both solid. The smash burger was delicious and came with crispy onion straws. Came here for drinks and app only. Our server, Nia, was attentive and friendly. We were not so sure about "fried ribs" but glad we got it after her suggestion. Tender meat that fell off the bone easily. Ribs were slow cooked and fried quickly. There was a hint of Thai chili sauce that was not mentioned on the menu fyi. Cilantro was smashed into pineapple salsa so if you have the "soap" gene you may want them to remove. I love cilantro so who knew pineapple and cilantro can be great combo! Absolutely one the places to go and sit on the deck outside by the river enjoying good weather. the beer selection is awesome as well. Food is hit or miss depending since they have changed their menus from couple years ago. We got the Brussel sprouts which were great and Nacho for apps. New menu is lacking some items which they used to have had before. for dinner their homemade bean burger was great and so was the fish and chips . no complaints. Went with a group during River Ruckus. The food was terrible. The service was slow and surly. The atmosphere on the deck is fantastic. I won't be going back, though. While we love the food at the Tap, sitting outside at noon on a beautiful Sat was our intention but they would not seat us on the deck by the water. It was mediocre at best. Service was slow, gave one diner a regular soda when diet was asked for. Wings were sauced horribly. They were good meaty wings with no smoke flavor, the wings were crispy but the sauce was put on them cold and was just a thick nasty layer of sauce. It was a maple chipotle sauce with no maple flavor and just tasted like store bought bbq sauce. The fish and chips, the cod was fried well and tasted good. These "handcut" fries are gross I wish places would either do them really well or give up. They weren't hot, and weren't crispy at all. First time going and we won't be back. read more

This place is great! The best service I have had in a longtime. My brother and I went there to meet our friends who live out of state. Plenty of room at the bar and were seated right away when we had decided to eat. Drink order was taken and drinks arrived within a couple of minutes. Our waitress took our order, and took our photo with our phone, she was very accommodating and nice. I had the smash burger which was wonderful. I don't drink but everyone enjoyed the selection of beers they ordered. My only complaint has nothing to do with the Tap brewing co. But he pathetic parking situation where you either need an app that doesn't work or use the kiosk that rejected 3 different credit cars so I had to find coins in my truck to pay the 2 hour toll. I ordered a beer that ive never tried before, i was extremely polite to the bartender after taking only one sip asking if i could swap it out for something else because of its repulsive taste, and they said "because its a limited addition beer i still have to charge you". Very rude way to treat a new custumer, will never be back and hope nobody ever goes to this buisness. so, the food was ok, nothing great but the service..... waitress on the deck, party of six (usually extravagant tippers). food is delivered, we eat, she never comes to check on us but shows up at 9:00 to tell us her shift is over and we can pay the check. Feel free to sit as long as you want, after you pay the check. All of our dirty plates left on the table until we leave, need to get our own to go boxes as well. She only came back one time. Food was good, nothing special but good. We got the pulled pork and harvest flatbreads and loved them. We've been coming to the Tap for a few years now for musical bingo on Thursday nights. The beer is sub par, we had one night where we all got sick from the chicken tenders, but we've kept coming back because we enjoy the bingo. Well, last night will be the last time. We ordered our drinks around 7 and got them promptly. We never saw a server after that. Our drinks were finished around 730/740, we waited for a solid half hour for someone to come over, but no one would even look in our direction. After waiting and waiting, we went up to the bar and asked for our check. Another 10 minutes of waiting to try to pay them. Place wasn't even that busy. Won't be back. read more

Large open deck, with oodles of outdoor umbrella covered tables, that is a only parking lot away from the Merrimack River. Simply incredible, probably our new favorite place. We started off with a flight of beers (see picture) and a Founders ale. All very good, out of the flight, the Solar Plexus was my favorite. Food was great, I had pulled pork nachos and my wife had the meatless veggie burger. Combine that with a nice view from the deck, fair prices and a very good waiter named Ian. We stopped here on the way back from Maine the other night and it did not disappoint. Not being from the area, we had a little trouble parking since it's right downtown, but it wasn't hard to get to from the highway, and was a breeze jumping back on. For a Friday night around 5-5:30, it wasn't too busy yet, so our service was fast. Everything came out piping hot, which made it even more delicious. We started with a couple drinks that were very tasty (we got a kick out of the two beers on the menu with over 9% alcohol content that had limits) and started with wings. We asked for blu cheese and got ranch instead, which was the only 'bad' thing about our experience here...that and the lack of bbq...my fiancé was sad about that, but settled for the bbq crunch burger with sweet potato fries. He really enjoyed it. I got the Mac and cheese with buffalo chicken, which was AWESOME. So cheesy and creamy, and lovely buffalo flavor. We would 100% return if we are in the area again! read more

This was recommended by both bartenders (who were super courteous, btw), and what a great suggestion. It's smooth, creamy, a little fruity but not tart, and just the right amount of carbonation. Been here for a few years and I've never had an issue before. Came here for my birthday this week, Great food, lobster rolls are immaculate however, the service took too long, took about an hour and a half for us to get our food drinks probably like half an hour. It was trivia night too and the host was terrible. She was rude to us the second we got there, had an attitude every time we spoke to her not sure if we just rubbed her the wrong way. At some point she kicked us out the trivia game and in a calm manner we went to confront her about it however, she started to freak out and finger snapping at the employees in a disrespectful way and yelling at them to kick us out. It was very bizarre. I asked why she kept snapping at them like that, let her know she was being rude and needed to practice her social skills and went back to my seat after she kept mumbling something about policy. I don't think we'll be coming here very often anymore unfortunately and we're def avoiding trivia night. read more

This has been my go to bar since I've turned 21! It's nothing special, don't expect gourmet food it's a bar it's bar food but it's still very very good! There aren't many places to just go and hang out for a drink around here, the bartenders are very friendly and as attentive as they can be for how busy they are some nights so if you go on a weekend just be a little patient. read more

Detailed version: Just went here yesterday and was overall really happy with the experience. It is exactly what you would expect from a downtown Haverhill restaurant. Has a lot of character and is right along the river. We ate outside, and it was hot as heck. There are umbrellas, but it was just 95 degrees out so really when we decided to eat outside we knew what were getting ourselves into. The deck though to eat on is awesome and why we picked it! It was during the daytime so the patio styled lights were not lit, but I am sure at night this place is the best. I loved the menu here! Not only does the menu style catch our eye, but it had the perfect amount of everything on it. The food itself was good, I got a flatbread pizza which was good, and the burgers we also got were cooked perfect to order. Having their own freshly brewed beer here is also a massive perk to this place. Closing out; service here was good. It was not anything out of this world, but it was not bad either.
