Our family was thrilled with Chef Rodney's wonderful 4 course Valentine's Day supper Saturday evening at The Taste. The ambiance was great for our family celebrating the special day together! Decorative Valentine hearts & candlelight adorned the center of each table. The atmosphere, even though many tables were seated, was quiet. Our service was great; special attention was given to us throughout the courses. Best, and most importantly, was that the Prime rib supper was absolutely delicious! After supper, we chose from a list of several dreamy sounding desserts! 5 different desserts were served to our table of 6. We were all smiles as each dessert was fantastic! We have enjoyed eating at The Taste previously, however, this evening was a "step-up" in that Rodney, Rochel, Denise & team created a special evening out for their customers. On our way to Lake Murray we decided to stop for lunch here. The place is easy to find on Main street. We were greeted as we entered and the waitress explained the choices for that day. She brought out 2 spoons on a plate with beans on them and said this was our taste of the bean soup of the day. We ordered the brisket hamburger with homemade chips. The burger was wonderful I would definately order it again, the chips were crispy and salted just right. We got the Mississippi mud pie for dessert with was very rich and a wonderful way to end the meal. Before the meal ended Chef Rodney came over and talked with us which was a nice surprise. The Taste is a recommended by foodie Peter. Freshly fried catfish, the hard to obtained aroma of beef in the ground patty mixed with brisket makes a great tasting burger. The kids meal chicken tender white meat was a little dry, 1 Timothy 4:15 says there's always room for improvement. The banana foster and strawberry cake are made to the Southern tradition because Chef Rodney has travelled thru out Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma. While we wish this restaurant well and much success, we unfortunately won't be returning or recommending it. As former restaurant owners, when we saw Chef in the name we came with great expectations. The service is slow, though our server was courteous; two regular meals and some kids burger meals took nearly an hour. French fries were frozen, fried chicken was tasteless, the pasta had no seasoning and was bland, the kids burgers came on hard French bread, the cold salad was put on a hot plate with hot food. Nothing inspiring or worth coming back for, in our personal opinion. The atmosphere is very eclectic and the restaurant itself is in a good spot. We were staying at Lake Murray State Park and headed into Texas for a day trip when we decided to look for a good lunch along the way. This restaurant popped up and the reviews looked good so we decided to give it a try. Boy, are we glad we did! The Servers were excellent and knew how to treat the customers right. My husband had a brisket burger and side salad. I had the chicken salad sandwich with chips. Both were excellent. Based on previous reviews, I knew the lemon pie would be good. We shared a piece and I had two cups of coffee with it. Excellent! As we were leaving we got to meet Chef Rodney. What a delight. Food was great. Service was great. Price was right and the atmosphere was very warm and comfortable. Be sure you get off of I-35 and enjoy this gem. Check the days and hours closely so you don't miss out. read more

Outstanding restaurant! We learned about The Taste on tv (Discover Oklahoma), and we're so glad we tried it. We both ordered the fried catfish, fries, okra and lemon meringue pie. Wow, everything was delicious. I think the catfish was the best I've ever eaten. The people were really friendly, and the service was excellent. The ambiance was nice; spacious room with great music. And, the prices were reasonable! We highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back, especially since it's halfway between DFW and OKC. 5 stars!!! read more

Driving back from Frisco TX and passed by all the many restaurants to go to The Taste. So glad we did because it was fantastic. A charming restaurant with great homemade dishes. There are weekly specials and also Keto options for those with special dietary concerns. The desserts are homemade and perhaps the best Lemon Meringue pie I have found outside my Mom's kitchen. The wait staff was attentive and welcoming and Chef Rodney came out of the kitchen to chat. Passing by on I-35 and need a good place to eat? Don't want to eat at 1.5 star Subway or 1.5 star McDonald's? You've found it - The Taste. Even if you had other good choices, you still couldn't go wrong coming here. You'll walk in and it's nothing uppitty-up, just kinda looks like a normal eatery, but that's where they get you. You're thinking, "This place doesn't look particularly noteworthy," but it's not about looks, it's about food. But even the look has thought behind it. The wife noticed every table was different and Chef Rodney said it makes it feel like you're at your own kitchen table. The plain light maple stained rectangular one off to the left is Chef Rodney's personal table from 20 some years ago. You'll sit down and they'll give you two tasting spoons of their soup. It's a genius marketing move because the soup is as good as homemade. You know when your grandma makes you homemade soup when you're sick? It's like that, unless you're like me and your grandma is Chinese and doesn't have the slightest idea what Cajun soup is. It's got sausage, chicken, onion, rice, all the good stuff and the broth brings it all together. We ordered a bowl of the soup. Okay, so the menu is very simple. There's the daily special that changes every day. Today was the chicken or beef chimichanga. It's made just right. The flour tortilla is fried to a golden crisp (what does that even mean? Golden crisp? It doesn't make sense but you know exactly what I'm talking about from the context clues.) It's filled with chicken and onion, cheese and some other stuff that I didn't notice before it all ended up in my stomach. It was so good, I forgot to pay attention to the ingredients. It comes with a tasty black bean corn salsa and chips. There are a bunch of sandwiches as well, so don't think you have to get the special. Then if you're like us, you shared the soup and the special and you've actually saved room for dessert for once in your life. We asked for a recommendation - the strawberry torte. It's a crisp/crunchy cookie, but not a cookie at all. It's covered in maceration strawberries (just a fancy word for soaked, not canned or preserved) and whipped cream. Totally worth getting. The portion is small but so is the $3 price. Get multiple desserts to try them all! When we got the bill, we decided for the price we'd try the Apple crisp too! It's an apple cobbler a la mode but way better. You remember at Thanksgiving when your grandma would being her homemade apple cobbler? Just like that, unless your grandma is Chinese and she brought some stinky Chinese medicine and a disapproving look. It was closing time for lunch and Chef Rodney came out and chatted for a bit. He's from Garland, TX just next door to where we live. We talked about how it's changed so much and how Richardson used to have an ostrich farm. Who knew an ostrich egg is worth $1500? He seems like a great guy. Easily the best restaurant in Marietta, OK I've ever been to. 3 Bruce Stars: worth a special visit. read more

Followed other reviews here on our travels to Texas. I always make a point to try local restaurants over chain. This did not disappoint. Service is phenomenal. We were welcomed and made to feel at home. Recommendations are always go with the special of the day. Three of the four of us did and enjoyed a delicious hot ham and cheese. The ham was a freshly cooked ham not lunch meat ham. I had the chicken salad. I choose it because the waitress said it was delicious and made with apricots. The chicken was fresh (not canned chicken) the flavor was good. I enjoy my chicken salad with celery, Nita and fruit and little mayo so it wasn't my favorite but it was good. Others sampled the soup which was bean. They loved it. Had a side given to us of a corn dish.. it was very tasty. Sour cream, salsa and cheese blended with corn. Nice surprise. After hearing the desserts, we decided we couldn't leave without trying some. The fresh strawberry cake was 'to die for'. My husband is diabetic and was happy to hear they are prepared to offer sugar free options. His cream cheese coconut pecan dessert lacked sugar but not flavor! Perfection. I had the chocolate fudge pretzel pie with a brown sugar meringue. Rrright!! You wouldn't have passed it up either. It was what dreams are made of. Chef Rodney is a hoot! He spent much time talking with us which was the cherry on the top of it all. The town is small, run down and vacant, the place smells of old town BUT 'The Taste" is the shining light and the smells of delicious food overpower all else. After seeing the number of 5 star reviews I was super excited to try out The Taste. Myself and three other coworkers arrived about 11:45 and were the first customers to sit down. The atmosphere is quite cozy. Our waiter seemed quite new and struggled to answer our questions, nice young man just needs some experience. The iced tea seemed to be not the freshest. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and a salad. The salad was fresh and very good, the spaghetti was ok but nothing special. It came with a slice of toast that appeared to be just frozen garlic toast. My boss got the catfish. While I didn't try the catfish first hand it did look appetizing but the one thing I didn't care for was the fish came with what appeared to be frozen french fries. By no means was this a bad experience but I felt it fell well short of the 45+ five star reviews at the time of this post. read more

Good food, good ambiance but the wait was not what I expected! Plus, I was hoping for exceptional food but it wasn't that. I got the chopped brisket sandwich and it was overly sweet chopped brisket on a hamburger bun....a brioche bun with a scoop of cole slaw on top of the brisket might have added a little something to help balance the sweetness of the meat. We visited this week and were so happy with this find! It is in an unassuming location on a small town main street, where it looks like a lot of other businesses have closed. The customer service was excellent, not just from our own server, but all the staff working in the restaurant. We had chopped brisket, beef tips and mashed potatoes, a burger, and the bananas foster pudding Everything was excellent! The chef came out and checked in with us. I am sharing this review from a Friend from Oklahoma. If you love great food please keep reading. For several months We have heard about a new restaurant in Marietta called The Taste. Opened by Chef Rodney from Louisiana, all the reviews that we had read were stellar. This evening We decided to take the plunge, and all I can say is "HOLY COW". I don't usually get fired up about restaurants, but I believe this one is special. First of all, the waitresses were very kind, and the restaurant was spotless. When the waitress brought our drinks, she also brought a spoonful of the "soup of the day". Everyone gets a taste, hence the name of the restaurant. Ladies and gentleman, I'm not very much of a soup guy, especially in the summer, but this soup was off the hook. That's right, after having a taste we all had to have a cup. The menu at The Taste is super simple, one daily special and several sandwiches that they have all the time. They post their ever changing menu on Facebook every week. We all had the special which was a fried pork chop, mashed potatoes, and green beans (all from scratch). Five stars any day of the week. For anyone who is being health conscious, there are options for you as well. To top off our incredible dining experience, I had to have their specialty dessert...Bananas Foster. I can't even put this experience into words....it was like Prozac topped with whipped cream. Hands down one of the best desserts I've had in years. Chef Rodney visited our table several times during our meal and he's such a great guy. So....when you have a night out, I highly recommend taking a drive south and checking out The Taste located on Main Street in Marietta, OK. read more
