I was in Sherman visiting my brothers and my younger brother mentioned going to The Farmstead in Colbert for lunch. Our waitress was very busy but quickly brought our drinks. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra. My CFS was a tasty, tender steak with a nice crispy crust and sides were good. My brother has the fried catfish and enjoyed it. I was full so got a slice of coconut pie to go (picture would have been better if the pie hasn't traveled an hour home). Pie was okay but maybe should have gotten chocolate or lemon. ~01-26-21~ Update Review Something has definitely changed, and you can taste it. I want this place to succeed in this small town close to Lake Texoma in Colbert, Oklahoma. The last 2 visits have been downhill. I don't want to bash this place. It has definitely lost its luster. Maybe it's the Covid pandemic. I don't know. In the beginning the food was so fresh. And you felt the energy in this establishment. We are going to step back for a few months. Maybe it will rejuvenate itself. But you can't enjoy or eat a hamburger if the bread is stale and falling apart. I have enjoyed this place for a couple years. The spouse rambled something to the fact, maybe they should temporarily change the name to: The Frozenstead, the appetizer fried green tomatoes definitely tasted old and frozen :( read more

I can see why this is very popular. Good food but I'm a little put off that everything comes from the freezer. Even the grill lines on the chicken are fake. With the word farm in their name I expected fresh which disappointed me. They never said fresh I had just assumed so that's on me The pies are over sweet for my taste but sugar is a staple in Oklahoma. If you are hungry after a day at the lake this may be just right for you read more

The food and service here is good. The ambiance however needs help; it's too dark and dreary in there. It needs day light and living up.

My original review is several years old so it's time to update. Over the years the food has been 4 - 5 stars consistently. The servers know what they're doing and do it well. The atmosphere is a little faded but it seems clean. When I'm in (or near) Colbert, this is where I go. And I never miss the coconut pie! read more

We're new to the area and after hearing so many nice things about this place we decided to try it. Now I've been there multiple times and haven't had a bad meal. Breakfast, lunch or dinner they're really putting out some great dishes. Many of their daily specials are under $10. Today we tried the hamburger for lunch, mainly because when people talk about this place that's what they rave about. I was not disappointed! It was really good but the star of my plate was the onion rings! The only thing I'm hoping they improve on is the booth seats. They need cushions or some type of upholstery to feel more welcoming. Colbert is tiny and you'll find it easily, just look for the white rocking chairs out front and cars parked all the way around it at lunch time. read more

At first you think the prices are a little much for a town with approximately 1300 people then once you order and see how much food you get you feel a little better about the prices, then you taste the the not amazing home cooked food and you don't even care what it costs. True home cooking.......I've had chicken fried steak twice and neither time I have even needed a knife, you can just cut it with a fork. read more

The cat fish was extra fishy tasting. Think it depends on the fillet. Wife and I both got the cat fish and two of the four fillets were very fishy tasting. Was surprised to see the catfish did not come with lemon. However, the waitress was very nice and brought everything extra as requested, Louisiana Hot Sauce and Cocktail Sauce. I ordered 4-piece catfish platters for $9. I ordered 3 of those. On each platter, 2-3 mostly came out decent and acceptable size, each platter had 1-2 pieces almost a nugget size which was a turn off. Either be fair and commit what you have listed or reduce the listing to 2-3 if thats what you can afford. Catfish fillet were nicely battered but they came out a little soggy on the inside. Catfish could have been better. Strawberry lemonade drink was excellent. Our waitress Zoey was awesome. She is the reason this location pulled 2 extra stars in rating with a total of three. Stopped for breakfast on our way home from Choctaw. A real small town cafe serving good food at extremely reasonable prices in a clean setting. Our eggs were perfectly cooked. My husband said the biscuits and gravy were well seasoned and good. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The pie looked really good but we passed on taking a piece home. Our waitress was quick and friendly. The cook reminded me of my God mother Faye, she was a great cook and hard working woman. Many of the customers were local folks stopping in for breakfast and chatting it up with the staff. A very friendly place. A Great find! We made the trip from DFW based on recommendations from a few friends. We loved the quaint decor and home style cooking. We tried the sampler platter on the appetizers and really enjoyed all including jalapeño strips. We tried several different entrees (rib eye, chipotle chicken, and chicken fried steak)and all were great. We really enjoyed all the sides including the seasonal broccoli salad. Save room for pie! They were amazing! We had the coconut, chocolate and apple. We brought home the apple for my hubby who missed out on the trip. He said it was one of the best that he's ever had!
