We sat on the patio at 630 on a Wednesday, the hostess/waitress sat us at a dirty table and apologized then went to find a towel to wipe up the table. The patio is very nice and the tables are spaced out and comfortable. Cheese curds had a very heavy batter and were large portion. Not bad at all. Dry rubbed wings were very flavorful and served piping hot. The absence of a dipping sauce was felt. We used the sauce on the curbs and it was very good but would have preferred a blue cheese. The waitress was a ghost unfortunately, she took our order dropped off the food and was not seen again until we were ready for a check. We ordered the individual sampler: ribs and pulled pork but a family style order of pulled pork and 2 huge sides arrived at the table. We were shocked by the portion and asked as the server was putting the food down if this was the individual sampler. She said it was. Dispute what the sever said It was very obvious to us that it was the family style plus the ribs were missing. The Mac and cheese was velveeta cheese like tasted fine. The green beans were very fresh and seasoned well. The pulled pork was drenched in a sweet baby Ray's type sauce I assume to try and cover for the meat which was dry and chewy. read more

Glad to stumble on this hidden gem as a checkpoint between friends coming from Metuchen and Plainfield respectively. Their scotch selection was excellent, with their waitress coming in with the knowledge and experience we needed for a relaxed happy hour. We split some apps (shrimp and tots), and props to their Mac & Cheese as well! My bro-date took home their family-style rotisserie serving which was massive, perfect for a family of young kids! read more

People are sleeping on The Tavern. The food is ALWAYS great. Never once had a bad, or even 'just ok' thing there. Everything is always above average. It may not be the fastest service in the world, but everyone is nice and it's always a great experience if you're willing to just relax a bit. If you're looking for a quick bite, go to a drive thru. OK, I really want this place to try a little harder. The food is decent but the menu needs some tweaks. The salads are good but, they need to add some more healthy options. Comfort food just doesn't cut it these days. The wait staff and management also need some tweaking; it's very hit or miss with their personality and attentiveness. I have had some very good and some just eh. As for the place itself; it's very clean modern and uncluttered. The view from the back is outstanding! This place is absolutely off the hook. We managed to get away for date night. Neither one of us golfs but both of us do eat, so it made sense. The combination of the atmosphere, awesome food, great view and totally hospitable service made our night. We've had a cheese and coldcut platter which hit the spot. The chicken wings were legit. The chickens which donated their wings should be proud. I've had their take on gin and tonic which was surprisingly refreshing and tart. Brisket was to die for. Almost as good as mom used to make. The whole meal, way under a 100. We will be back before more people discover this gem. Absolutely amazing. read more

I wanted to love this place, I REALLY did BUT here's my yelp review: 5 stars for the ambience and -1 for the food so I'm averaging at about 2. Our server was great and tried but the food was really disappointing. My blueberry gin cocktail, I don't recall the name but something, something Ricky was great though my husband's martini was served in one of the rounded champagne glasses which obviously seemed odd and he swore it was watered down. I can't speak to that. I couldn't decide on an appetizer despite being really hungry so I opted for spinach artichoke dip. It was OK but nothing special. I couldn't decide on what to order for dinner since again, nothing jumped out. I was between a salad, the shrimp and scallop dish or the rotisserie chicken. I had read that the brisket was delicious but it was only served as a sandwich and since it was dinner time, I wasn't in the mood for a sandwich. My husband ordered the ribs. When asked, our server suggested the shrimp and scallops saying it was DELICIOUS so I gave it a try. My shrimp was dry, scallops mushy and while the sauce was decent it was poured over the entire dish including the roasted red potatoes that had an indescribable taste. If I had to put words to them odd,stale, yucky refrigerator tasting come to mind. In other words, less than enjoyable. My husband didn't care for his ribs either and we just kind of decided to call it a night,get the check and head out. Our server seemed surprised we didn't want to take out food since we barely touched either dish. I may try it again because the sandwiches did sound good for lunch and it is SOOOOO close to our home but certainly would never go back for dinner. read more

No information at all on the website (on July 26 the website says they're looking forward to opening the new restaurant in Spring 2019!). Beautiful evening to be outside! Don't even bother! It's not a restaurant, it's a catering hall. They never are open to the public and when they are, the menu is limited. Waited 50 minutes for a salad. Spent $14 on 4 shrimp. Yikes. Our waitress was nice and tried to make up for the kitchen's missteps, but in the end, this was likely a one and done for us. Not a good first impression for sure. On a positive note, the salmon was well cooked to a medium temperature the way we requested. Sadly, the wild rice was also a medium temperature (ie, under cooked) and unenjoyable. Oh...and did I mention we had about - half dozen fruit flies join us for dinner. Not cool. Needless to say, we won't be returning for the food and since the fairways here are in need of a complete overhaul, it's unlikely we'll be returning for golf either. read more

Been 3 times already... each time the food is amazing. The staff is still learning/working out the kinks but improving each time. They need to bump up their social media presence, but I've seen improvement since they have opened. Give them a chance... the atmosphere is fun and relaxing, the food is actually really good. I had the privilege of working by his side at a previous casual fine dining establishment. I reached out for a meeting in order to seek his counsel on my new fall menu program, and what I received was beyond anything I expected. Being a restaurant department head In Manhattan NYC, I can value the time he took out of his day to help me with my creative block and personally tour me through his new facility. Experience: Drinks - Makers 46 old-fashioned - Elijah Craig Whisky Smash Food A Ribeye Medium Rare that comes with two artisanally crafted sides. I chose an excellent avocado-tomato salad along with Sauteed Spinach. taste profile: Tender, perfectly grilled to perfection with perfectly executed Char marks and steaming while hand delivered to the Bar. Highly recommend. Facility: Elegant and clean. Very upscale with a casual setting that screams; we cater to new york and the sophisticated individual...but you can also come in and grab a pint to catch your favorite pastime on the 4k Flats-screens. Hospitality & Customer service: I can be bias when it comes to the caliber of service and execution I hold with my personal staff so I will keep myself in neutral. Friendly, always smiling, and there to cater to your needs. Notes: Although to still be working out its culture and attention to detail I have no doubts that Chef Michael Gambo is on his way to his first Michelin Star. But waitress, Gabby was so attentive so we were happy about her, a drink I order( which I forgot the name lol but it was rum base cocktail) was really good, a bit Smokey which I loved and Brisket! (not sandwich, individual entree) was sooo good, it was so tender and literally melt in your month. You should definitely try Brisket! Ambiance 5 food 2 stars. Chicken salad on a croissant ~ dry ~ bland. Spinach artichoke dip super salty and not creamy ~ the bread that went with the dip was excellent. Tater tot appy was a 3. Others at the table didn't eat much.. left at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the food. My husband had turkey sandwich ~ definitely didn't taste like Thanksgiving The bar tender was extremely nice as was the server. Beautiful views. They need a better menu and a better cook ~. My family and I dined at the Tavern at Ashbrook last night. I give five stars for food and decor. The place is beautiful, the menu is comprehensive, and the food is excellently prepared. Compliments to the chef. Two challenges: it appears to be understaffed, both from a number of staff and staff skill level, and (as this is a relatively new restaurant) it was relatively empty, which is surprising for a Thursday night. I would encourage more locals to go there, as we are in need of this type of dining establishment in our town. read more

What a shame! Great looking bar and dining area with outside seating overlooking the golf course. That's where it ends. Food is horrible. Shrimp cocktail was warm and soft. Baked clams sent back, perfect salad tasted medicinal, burger was Wendy's second, tap beer was warm. The management company has to re do the limited menu and get a chef that can deliver. read more

this is a review just for the bar. my parents and i went in there for a dinner for 3. made a reservation but had to wait a couple minutes for a table so grabbed a drink at the bar. obviously things are different because of coronavirus but i ordered the most expensive drink on the menu.. the manhattan. i kid you not it came in a side sauce container... the drink was 13 dollars. what in the world? read more

I've been to the restaurant in the new clubhouse at Ashbrook 3 times and have absolutely loved everything I ordered. I had the meatloaf melt (not sure if it was worded that way on menu) and it was so good I had that twice! The lobster roll sandwiches were awesome too. I had a side of Mac and cheese and some sort of loaded tater tots that were enough to share 3 ways. All very good. I don't even golf but plan on dining there a lot since it's so close to me. read more

Delicious food and great atmosphere! The rotisserie wings are tasty and the beef brisket is cooked to perfection. They have a great outdoor space that overlooks the golf course. It's a great place for a date night or to bring the kids for a family dinner. I can't wait to try their weekend brunch! read more
