If you're a potential student looking for school do not come here. The owners of the school to begin with they are OFF THE CHAIN to begin with. They PICK AND CHOOSE who which certain students will be allowed campus. If they are going to discriminate just say that! Jen Kusel who works here is one of the most RUDEST & no people skills or customer service skills at all. I was harassed by a person who is name Jen Kusel. General: Affordable and if you aren't fussy you can't be disappointed. If you are fussy, go pay fill price, these are students. Covid precautions: Not great. Hit or miss on masking and distancing even though distancing was easily possible. Highlight: Price, students, genuine interest in trying hard Lows: Students aren't taught some of the important basics like shampooing and blowdrying. I had to help with the shampoo on the nape of my neck twice and show her how to blow dry effectively. Parking: Stinks, it is busy and no matter what time, bring comfy shoes. Cost: Clear and cheap, there is a cost for blowdrying and styling your hair which is not explained even if styling includes blow-dry only. read more

Students are always polite and do their best, sometimes with good results and sometimes not. But there's no excuse for rude behavior from the instructors. It's happened twice now, can't imagine how they expect customers to come back. Today an instructor looked at me while my hair was partially complete and told me in a brusque tone that "I had to be out of here in 10 minutes." She didn't tell the student working on my hair whose is responsible for finishing on time. She told ME as though it's my fault my hair wasn't finished! Shockingly strange and rude behavior. My tech was PHOEBE, and she did a very relaxing facial. I'm sure I dozed off during the session. Good job. The only thing is the background music kept fading in and out. DO NOT GO HERE!! My husband went last week to get a haircut and a perm at the school. We sent them a photo of exactly what he wanted in advance and even sent a video of a tutorial on how to do it. The student was following his request and brought the instructor to provide some guidance. Despite telling them not cut the back short (he said it like 10 times), the instructor told the student to shave the back part off without even letting him know. On top of that, the perm came out horrendous, nothing like what he asked for and got a nice wash after the perm which made the top flat and the rest still curly at the end. This took 4 hours and at the end still had to pay for it. I called the school afterwards to talk to the director and all she said was too bad and their policy says no refund. Management and staff are unprofessional and we'll never go back here again period. read more

If I could give it no stars... DON'T DO IT. JUST DON'T DO IT. DON'T...DO IT!!!! I'll say it again because I know its tempting to think you can get cut rate pricing at a salon, just don't do it. I went there with long blonde hair about halfway done my back. The stylist raved about how long it was "even in the back." It can get knotty in my "kitchen" but I'd gotten all the knots out. It was smooth and soft, and in good condition. I was assigned a "tier 2" stylist who was "more experienced." At least they said she was. I was getting full highlights (which I'd gotten before at two high-end Annapolis area salons). It's not really rocket science right? You mix the colour, brush it on and foil it. The first clue should have been that the "tier 2" stylist asked another how to separate and foil my hair. Then the solution seemed runny - in fact it was running down my back before we were done. The worst came after she rinsed my hair out. She kept commenting on how much of it there was but she couldn't get a comb through it. I touch my hair and express concern because it feels brittle. My stylist mentions that even though she trains there she "hates" Paul Mitchell products, like that explains it. Then I overhear her tell a senior stylist it was "really thirsty." She kept putting more spray on conditioner on it and complaining that she didn't have the right brush to comb it out. Turns out that in an entire salon/school NO ONE had a wet/dry brush. Really??? Calling Paul Mitchell, is this really how you want to be represented? (Full disclosure, aeons ago I was a hair model for Sebastian International, like in the 80s when they first started out). This is not the service I would expect even from a Hair Cuttery, pretty sure they have wet/dry brushes even if I've never been to one. The senior stylist came over and the two of them brushed it out but they kept on yanking it harshly. Really harshly. Senior stylist tells me my hair is in "bad" condition (hello! it wasn't when I came in here! In fact my BF loved to run his fingers thru it) and needs to be cut. Finally they blow it out. Probably because of the enormous amounts of silicone based product they put on it it didn't look too bad. I paid and left but should have protested right then. Needless to say the drippy chemical ran onto parts of my hair it shouldn't have. My hair, after washing out all the disguising products, was super dry and started breaking off. Was it the chemical overlap, the chemicaals themselves, or both? Who cares, the result was the same. The hair I'd spent three years growing out after a surgery was in serious jeopardy. I probably spent 5 times what I saved in prodcust and services to save my haior from completely falling out. Again, just don't do it if you value your hair. read more

The old saying "You get what you pay for" does NOT apply in this case. I knew going to a beauty school there was a chance I could walk out with something I didn't exactly want. I spent the last couple of months growing out my roots so when I said, where I am gray, I'd like to be gray and where I'm still dark, I'd like my hair to still be dark, the hairstylist would clearly be able to see. The student was clear in what I was asking and explained it to the instructor who signed off on the plan and quoted me $91 for the color correction and a haircut. After several hours of the students not having any supervision or direction, I am blonde with a shadow root. And a different instructor raised my price to $244. When I raised my concerns to the school management, they were less than helpful. I highly do not recommend this beauty school. read more

The great reviews overshadowed the bad so I was hopeful. But no great price nor great reviews can overshadow the truth that this place is horrible. I got a living social deal for a full foil highlight, haircut,&style. I asked for caramel highlights but because of the picture I showed, the stylist and the instructor decided that it was a "balayage", I asked for long layered haircut with bangs as I showed her a picture and what I got was no bangs, crooked layers, and no styling, just blow dried my hair. Before the student stylist was about to show my hair to her instructor, i was looking at my hair and told her about the problems. She told me to just tell the people up front about the fact I'm not satisfied and they would reschedule me for another hair appointment and this time, with a phase 2 student. She then called her instructor and she was actually complimenting my stylist saying she did a good job while examining my hair and I was like,"uh my hair cut is uneven, my highlights patchy and uneven". She basically said that the "balayage" would seem that way but that's the way it should look but if I was unsatisfied, I can go to the front desk and tell them all about it. I did just that when I got to the front and they told me to make an appointment within two weeks because after that I'd have to pay. Btw, the whole thing took about almost 4&1/2 hours. Yeaaaah... that long and for the horrible result. I'd say you get what you paid for and take these reviews with a grain of salt. I'd say that the stylist was inadequate and the instructor walked around the place acting like she's full of it because she doesn't know squat. The fact that she was trying to make it seem like my stylist did a great job speaks volume at the fact she doesn't know her trade. Update: I decided not to come back here for them fix it because I was afraid they'd ruin it even more So I went to another salon and I ended up paying over $200 just to get it fixed. I have been going here for about 3 months . The teachers are amazing . They take a lot of time with all the students to make sure they understand what they are doing . What I like the most is they make sure they believe in themselves . Rebecca Dom did her first highlights on me and they turned out amazing . My first visit with Brandon was great. He's is a very talent, very nice stylist. However my 2nd appointment in April was awful. I got a Kertain Full treatment (which I've had done before at other places with WONDERFUL results. Do not waste your time or money here. My keratin treatment was worthless and did nothing for my hair. I wasted $85. When I tried to say something to the teacher, she said it was fine even though my hair had a ton of fly always. Also I have a lip wax while the treatment was sitting. I had to ask the young lady to re do my upper lip 3 times because she kept missing hairs. The lip wax was $9- if you're charging salon prices, please get it right the first time. Do yourself a favor and get your keratin treatment elsewhere. read more

The front desk was friendly, helpful, and provided all the information I would need as a newbie. My stylist Hope did an excellent job an was very friendly. Customer and student beware! I've never been so disappointed. My 12:30 appointment for partial highlights/lowlights, shampoo and trim turned into a nightmare. When i arrived my hair was light brown. The student working on my hair received little to zero supervision by the instructors. After 3.5 hours (4pm) and my hair is orange! I found out when she was mixing color, she asked for help and was told by the instructor that she was now "creative dept" and she should know the answer on mixing color. It was her very first day in the "creative dept." I spoke to one instructor when I arrived (12:30), another came over after my hair was orange and led us to shampoo bowl after a "brass blaster" was applied saying they're closing in 20 mins (now 4:10pm) to chop chop. She knew I wasn't happy. A 3rd instructor walked over when trying to brush and blow dry my wet "red/orange" head - I told her I wasn't happy with color, she looked at the stylist and said you don't have time to finish the blow dry..we're closing. What?! Never have I had such terrible customer service and witnessed a major lack in management. Last time I checked, the student tuition pays the instructors salary and if there's no students - there's no school. I was pushed out at 4:30/closing with a wet dissatisfied orange/red head?!! No blow dry, no trim (not that I would have let them cut my hair at this point.) When my stylist walked me out - all eyes were on me - it was obvious they were all aware of what had happened with the eye contact and whispering. They could've cared less. I felt bad for the student doing my hair. I don't blame her. I blame the school and the instructors. After all, the student is paying you to teach her. There was another customer with another stylist at a shampoo bowl the same time I was - the instructor also told her to finish up it was closing time. The two stylists were talking to each other wondering how or why they were unable to finish their services. I can only hope whoever owns this Paul Mitchell (highly reputable name) school does a deep dive within their mgmt and does a major reorganization. Not to mention, the dismissiveness, communication and attitudes with the instructors towards the students creates a hostile working environment. read more

I've been going here for a over a year. It's my first experience going anywhere regular. I've had very mixed experiences. Sometimes I've gotten a great, professional haircut for $12, other times I've gotten a haircut that looks like someone hacked my hair off with a dull machete! If all you want is a touch up or a trim, it's a good place to go for a cheap haircut. I have noticed that my recent haircuts have had a marked decline in quality; and that was with me paying extra to have a "Phase 2" student do my hair. After my previous experience (I have two different haircuts on either side - yikes!); I made the decision that from now on, it's worth it to shell out a little more to go to a mid-tier salon. On Friday July 6 my sister went to Temple Annapolis a Paul Mitchell school excited for a new change and instead left in tears and deeply hurt. Now to know my sister is to know she is not prissy about her looks but she loves her long hair but has been looking for a change. She was greeted by the trainee who introduced himself and asked her what she wanted done that day, to which she told him she had the Groupon deal of a full foil highlight, cut and style. She noticed that as they went upstairs he spoke very fast but chalked it up to maybe him being nervous. He continued asking questions such as if she'd been there before and how long it had been since she had done anything with her hair. Basic get to know you questions you know. Also asking her if she is one of those women who just puts their hair in a ponytail or a bun because he hates to style their hair just to see them do that. He gets her in a chair and sits down in the chair next to her and asks her, "So what are we getting done today?" In her head at this point she's like hmm that's weird. I know that I signed up for someone in training but I would hope they could remember what I told them only 2 minutes ago. After a few more questions about her hair texture which he seemed unsure of he told her they were just waiting on his Supervisor/trainor to sign off for him to begin. The supervisor tells him he has to finish filling out the customer form before she can even look at it to sign off on it. He asked my sister if she needed to go the bathroom to which she told him no, and he asked again and if she was sure because he hates it when women say how much they have to go when in the middle of the appointment. Then after getting up to look at her hair he stumbled and fell back down into a chair and my sister asked if he was okay to which he said yes "it happens all the time." So at this point I ask you what would you do as a paying customer, do you: A) sit there and say nothing to only kick yourself later for not speaking up or; be honest with the trainee and kindly ask him if there is ANYone else available. Some one a bit calmer because maybe he's nervous and making her a bit uncomfortable. So she does this telling him she would rather be honest with him instead of her going straight to the supervisor. He tells her it will be fine, it will be great ignoring her request. So she asks him if he could just check and see if ANYone is available. He goes to his trainor/supervisor and they talk for a minute before the supervisor comes to my sister and tells her she has to leave because she is being discriminatory. Not once did she ask or express a preference for a women or a man. She expressed a concern over his behavior not his gender. I mean why would she even go to a PAUL Mitchell school if she discriminated against a man doing her hair. Nevertheless while growing up got her hair done by my aunt's friend who owned his own beauty salon. That's a big word to be throwing around these days. Have we really reached a point in our society that when you're a paying coustmer or anyone really, that you can't express your concerns or needs without fear of being attacked. Accusing someone of being discriminatory without knowing them is an attack on their character make no mistake and should not be taken lightly. Having been a supervisor as well as someone who has worked in customer service as a waitress and a cashier this was not the proper way to handle this situation. This supervisor may have thought she was doing right by her trainee but all she showed him was how to lose, offend and hurt a customer and a human being. As I said my sister was excited for a new change and I don't just mean for her hair. She has had a rough time this year as it's been a little over a year since the death of her only son. She needed a bit of excitement and was really looking forward to this experience. I have excluded the name of the trainee because the whole point of her talking directly with him was so he wouldn't get in trouble. However I am sure the leaders of Temple a Paul Mitchell school can access the names of both the trainee and supervisor involved with the details I have given. If only to educate them that there are other ways to handle situations and remind them to be kind to those they meet for they know not what battles they face. On a special postive note I would like to mention the women who where downstairs at reception and how kind they were to my sister that one of them went upstairs to get her purse as she was so upset and crying that she forgot it. Kudos to them for being kind in a difficult situation. That's the one thing I want most for people to take away from this, be quicker to kindness we especially need it these days. read more

Facility was clean and well kept. Staff were friendly and polite. Phase 1 student was focused on doing my foils and haircut correctly. However, his timing was off on the last foil grouping (top of head along the part line and bangs) and my hair come out orange in this area. I had to point it out and was told to go home and put some lightener (??) on it. I hope he learned something about foil highlights from this experience. I was disappointed at his failure to acknowledge this "mistake", instead I was just ushered out. I am now looking for a professional to turn my brassy orange bangs and part line into blond. Is there no follow up or willingness to fix a mistake??? I would have thought that was part of their learning experience. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I went in on Monday afternoon after a failed attempt at a DIY bleach job left me several tones of orange and light brown. It wasn't;t pretty and I was way embarrassed. Walked in expecting to be judged for my bad decision but all of the students I spoke with put me at ease, telling me stories of their pre-cosmetology school dye jobs. My stylist was Nicole, a phase 2 student. who is close to graduation. Not sure how long she'll be at the Temple but if you go soon, REQUEST HER! Nicole took the time to consult with me and get to know my style. I told her I wanted platinum blonde hair and she was realistic with me. We proceeded to bleach the hair but she did warn me that it might not lift as much as we wanted it to. We then discussed options on what direction we would take if we couldn't achieve platinum. It was a five hour color correction but, lo and behold, Nicole (with the guidance of her cosmetology teacher, Anne, who was sweet as pie!) worked her magic and transformed me into a platinum blonde!! I walked in to the Temple looking like carrot top and left looking like Khalesi AND finally met a hairstylist who get me! Going back next Thursday for a conditioning treatment since they have specials on hair masks every Thursday (half off of $20!) Great salon experience! read more

I come here ever couple months to get my hair dyed. I normally go red and it is one of the hardest hair colors. Most places I've been try to give me a ketchup red instead of a subtle ginger color that I like. Every stylist I've been to has done an impeccable job. I get compliments on it for months (Even after it starts to fade). They always know how to mix the colors just right to find that perfect shade. Great place to get your hair done! I got my hair done by a young girl who was around my age and she has already graduated the school now. However, she did a fantastic job with the coloring. Cutting my hair she was a little hesitant and had to have a little assistance. I went from having hair down to my hips, orange from a bad ombré and she took it to shoulder length, and made my ombré a nice toned blonde color. I'm sure any student there is great! They all have new techniques and styles every time I go there. Their supervisors are constantly checking on what they are doing during your appointment to make sure you're satisfied. The best thing about the appointment is it's way cheaper costs than at a professional hair salon. It's almost always under $100. Love the place!! Would highly recommend. Only reason I didn't give five stars is because they aren't professionals and they are not 100% confident all the time. But my experience has always been great. read more

I went to get my hair done twice by Gabbi! I loved it both times. She was amazing! Her teacher however, Anastasia, was very rude every time she came over! She was very nasty with gabbi and i dont know why because she was doing a great job. Teachers should be instructing, not degrading their students.. The 2nd time I came the teacher came over and gave both Gabbi and I the nastiest look. She has made me feel very uncomfortable every time I come. On a whim, I stopped in to discuss making an appointment. I have been abusing my hair with boxed products for about 50 yrs so I talked with the young woman at the front desk to see what they would suggest. She listened, no judgement and called Caitlin into the conversation. I made the appointment and could not be more pleased with the results!! After listening to my very poorly communicated request, Caitlin picked it right up and made all the perfect recommendations. I have really long blonde hair with a history of highlight service. I went in for a root touch up/full highlight. I was really impressed with Skylar and also a bit relieved that a fellow blonde was doing my hair (they just get it). She sought out advice from her teachers which I really liked because I knew that she cared about doing a good job. She was very meticulous and wanted to get the color as close to the root as possible. She was gentle and she let me relax while she did the work. Her bubbly down to earth personality came out while we talked about make up artists we follow on Instagram and admire. She has a great future ahead of her and I'll be back to see her soon! I look forward to being a client of hers where ever she finds work after school. The services take longer than usual because the students ARE learning and want to do a good job. Be patient, you're saving a ton of money! I saw a few impatient clients in there and I was so annoyed by them. These students are asking questions and being careful on your behalf, so relax and plan ahead for a longer service. TIP: bring cash with you!!! I came in with a Groupon which covered my service but I didn't have cash to tip and they don't accept CCs. I'm going back to tip her in cash today :-) read more

I purchased a highlighting coupon from Groupon to give Temple a try. My visit started out promising. I was attended by a newish trainee (very nervous, but nice) and a supervising "professional". It was clear that the trainee needed help as the supervisor described what was to happen and the trainee did the opposite. However, the supervisor explained again and the trainee had an "AH-HA" moment. She sectioned my hair, mixed color, and began the process. I did not see the supervisor again. That was unfortunate. When highlighter developed and got washed out, my hair was ORANGE in some prominent spots. Also, the highlights were not dispersed evenly - there were clumps of concentrated small highlights. I complained about the orange and the trainee went to find the supervisor but was unable to find her. I went to the front desk to pay and even the front desk receptionist "wondered" where the supervisor for my job was - I waited - she NEVER materialized. I was informed that if I had a problem with the color, to call in 7 days, schedule an appt., and the charge would be $8.00. I couldn't believe it. Subsequently, I replied to a Temple review request and stated what I say here. No one cared enough to contact me for further discussion. As far as I am concerned, the trainee is wasting her money if this is the way she is expected to succeed. Also, customer beware - you are really on your own - the supervising is very limited when it counts. I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone. Management should be ashamed of themselves exposing the public to their training methods. read more

The absolute worst ! This school doesn't deserve 1 star. I began all of the applications, fafsa, and paperwork needed in June 2017. Due to me being so excited to begin my journey I called multiple times to make sure that all of my accounts and loans were approved. I talked to Ms. Beverly (financial aid) on October 18, 2017 she let me know that everything was a go and all I had to do was print a form to sign and bring to class on November 7th. Today is November 6th the day before classes start, I got a call from another financial aid person saying I'm unable to start tomorrow due to no funding AFTER I was JUST told everything was approved. I'm completely disgusted with this school. Oh and of course it's nothing they can do when it was their mistake. If you are thinking about attending Paul Mitchell Annapolis for ANYTHING. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. This has left me discouraged, disappointed, and I have an all around bad taste in my mouth about this. read more
