Wow! I don't have many more words to describe this place. I looked high and low for a braiding salon for my daughters. I was the braider for many many years. This time I did not feel like braiding and leaned on assistance. When I called, the person that answered was very upbeat, informative, and was able to answer my questions. When we arrived as a walk in with thick hair and a time consuming style, they were very accommodating! They didn't moan and groan, instead they verbally discussed how much time each had on the client they were working on and jumped in when they were able. There were four ladies in the salon while my daughter was there, every single one of them helped out to move the process along. The braids are high quality! They are waist length and hair was included in the price. I have never see my daughter so happy with a hairstyle!!!! The vibe in this place is Christian radio station, women singing, and uplifting and empowering each other. I will definitely be back again. I cannot wait to get my own hair done! read more

Word of warning from a long time customer: the service is not worth it. I've been coming here for years to get my braids done and every time, they give me a different price. I wanted the same bra length medium box braids I've been getting for years but when I went there recently, they told me they couldn't do it shorter than mid back. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! I am beyond happy with my hair! I walked in a little after four to see if I had the right hair to get some medium BOHO knotless braids (I didn't want to inconvenience anybody so I was happy with going back tomorrow early morning.) I went to this establishment last Thursday. I contacted this establishment to get some box braids. I showed the lady my hair to see if she could braid it. She told me yes come back in an hour. I came back she ask me what length and color. I explain that her I don't like long braids. She showed me a laminated paper with the size 6x6 with different prices within the length. I agree to $220 with black hair color. When she came back I ask her if she had color 350 she said she only have a mix and the length was 52 inches and it would cost $260. I said never mind. The braiders were very polite and delicate with my hair. However the braiders were braiding different lengths. The lady I spoke with earlier who I assume to be the owner said something to the lady that was braiding in the front about the length of the braids. I then said to the braider that some are long and some are short she said no don't worry. As they are switching back and forth from my hair to others hair the owner comes to me and say she needs me to pay now because she have to take her husband to the airport and she doesn't know how to work the machine. I replied I would rather wait until my hair is finished. I decided to go ahead and she says the length you have is $260 I said no I told you I wanted and agreed to $220 I reminded her about saying something about the length to the braider. I think told her the length was different on each side she assured me no it wasn't just wait until it's finished.if there are any problems she will fix it. When my hair was finished she was still gone so I spoke with the lady she left in charge and she told me to leave my name and number and she will call me I haven't received any calls. I do plan on making a police report and disputing the $40 with my bank since I only agreed to $220 and I have long and short braids in my hair. This is the process my bank told me to take along with the prices being different on her website. I don't think it's ok to over charge a customer because your employee decided to braid long and short braids. I do think they're good braiders but they're very very very slow. In time their speed will pick up but you will loose good clients for charging them with something you're braider decided to do. I ventured here again after haven't a super pleasant first experience. I get there and I request the same style that I had gotten 2 weeks prior. She tells me $280. I'm like I was just here 2 weeks ago and I did not pay that. So I say ok give me this (another style). She tells me $280 again. I go for a 3rd style and yes again she says $280. I've been getting my hair braided for over 20 years. I know damn well that every style is NOT the same price. I right nicely walked out and will not be returning. Ohhhh and let me also say that I went to another braiding salon and the r first style that I wanted (that she wanted $280) I paid $180 and it looked AMAZING!!! I was quoted $10 per braid for stitch braids well when I arrived, they changed the price to $20 per braid... The stitch braids were mediocre at best. I asked them to remove them from my head and just do regular straight back braids. Honestly my straight back braids did not look good either. This is an amateur braiding salon and they should be lowering their prices! Not to mention there was another young lady who had an issue with the other braider not being able to do French braids -__- ..... it's sad! Lili lies and says she's the manager but she's actually the owner. Spoke with Lili on the phone regarding rescheduling two appts my 19 yr old scheduled online ($60 cashapp deposit). Unbeknownst to me, they charge $12 per pack of hair and I can find it much cheaper online or at my local BSS. Lili ignored all of my texts to reschedule; she was short, rude and unprofessional when I spoke to her on the phone- repeatedly saying "we don't offer refunds" when in fact I never asked for a refund I was asking for a reschedule three days out. I went to the appointment because I paid a deposit. Upon arrival, Lili sat at the front desk with a small child on her lap and was surprised to see I had come to my appt. While my daughters were ready to proceed, Lili just had to tell me how she felt I was blaming her and everything was my fault...and SOMEHOW she was doing me a favor... How am I'm paying you $650 yet you're doing me a favor?! I am not her husband, friend, employee, sister...a paying customer has no reason to know how the business owner feels. She had 2 options, refund my money or proceed with the service...I received a full refund and left the premises. Future customers beware, Lili is a big, mean, rude lady who attempts to use her size to intimidate others, all while playing gospel music! If you still decide to go karma avoid the cornrows because they all look awful, the single styles are decent. read more

This palace never fails me! I've been here now on a few occasions. Since we are dealing with COVID-19, the salon is taking special care of clients making sure we are social distancing. I was the only client getting my hair done until the next appointment arrived when I was leaving. So there was a total of 3 people (myself and two stylists) in the building. All of us were wearing a mask. Usually I come for protective box braids to prepare for a stress free summer. I'm natural so protective styles during the summer is always a must. I normally stick with box braids, however I decided to try the knotless braids with some color this time. And I am, yet again, so pleased with my hair! Fifi and Nikki really hooked me up! I asked for a brownish color to blend with my jet black hair and they recommended an ombré which was perfect! I didn't want anything over powering but I still wanted some fun! And this gave me just that. The braids are also a perfect size, very light in weight, and so crisp/neat! So although they are long, I do not feel the weight of the braids being daunting at all. I've already received compliments! So happy! And what I love about this place is I'm in and out! I'm not worried about if I'll have to spend my whole day at the salon because we've all been there. I showed Purity a pic of what i wanted (waist length triangle part box braids) and she DELIVERED! I was out before 12p with amazing hair. Pretty much 6 ppl in total had helped finish braiding my hair to get it done so quickly. This place is no frills and no fuss. I love that. They're about their business. We had a trip coming up and being that we were going to be gone a couple of weeks, the last thing I wanted to have to do is wash my hair while away, or drag all the products necessary to do so. So I got my hair braided for the first time ever (knotless braids). I went by the google reviews which weren't as bad as these seem to be here on Yelp. I have no complaints. I pre-washed and blew out my hair for the appointment. I let them know ahead of time and when I sat down that I was tender headed. I wish the braids had been a little larger, but medium, from what I've seen on the internet, is different from salon to salon. They ladies did a wonderful job, the braids weren't too tight. I did wash my scalp the day after getting the braids, but it was because I didn't like the way the gel they use felt on my scalp. I washed, conditioned, and deep conditioned my hair and have had no issues with the braids for the 2+ weeks they've been in. I'll be taking them down this weekend. If I need to have my hair put away for a few weeks in the future I'd definitely return to the ladies at The Braiding Palace. read more

This place is unprofessional and over priced. They charged $160 to braid my daughters natural shoulder length hair. I had to keep telling them I didn't want hair added. I showed them 10 pictures of what we wanted. They kept acting like they didn't understand when the lady finally agreed the price was outrageous. After a 2 hour wait, I called ahead to see if they could take us on short notice they said yes, and the fact we needed it done I caved and paid. I understand I'm not well informed about braids/ braiding hair and I'm sure I used the wrong terms but I did show them pictures they definatly took advantage of my lack of knowlede. This was my 2nd time using The braiding palace, and Unfortunately this time I was not pleased with the quality and professionalism from the stylist (Lili) I do not live in Maryland, however my work brings me here 80%. So seeking hair salons is Challenging. My issue(s) with the Braiding Palace Upon arriving on time, I walked in and greeted 2 ladies with good Morning my name is and I have a 10am appointment w/Lili , one lady was on the phone never acknowledged me the others lady responded with what are you gettin, I told her and asked if she was Lili, the women walked away not saying anything else, shortly another lady walked out from the back and pointed to a station stating sit there. She was really engaged on a personal phone conversation at times her voice escalated with hand gesture, as she proceeded to look at my hair not saying anything to me, nor to find out what I was looking to get done. She starts bringing out hair and placing it on a rack still really into her personal phone conversation. I interrupted her saying what color and showed her the style I wanted, she nodded and response with un huh, still talking very loud and strong on her personal call. Needless to say she is in my ear the entire time. after she is almost finished with my hair I discover she has added a color of which I didn't want as welll and braiding incorrectly, i look in the mirror and express my concern, the owner here me and says why didn't you tell her, I said I couldn't because she has been on the phone the whole time. Lili proceeds to cut hair out and add hair in. she didnt add it in covering the cut hair, so now it sticking out of the braids. She added beads in the ends they have fallen off less than 24 hrs and the ends are unraveling. I am very DISAPPOINTED AND HOPEFULLY my hair will last during my weeks vacation. I feel she over charged me by $15 dollars and I paid to have beads of which I brought and was told that was not a charge. I'm so disappointed to share that my second experience with The Braiding Palace was drastically different from my 1st experience. Turns out that once they have made their 1st impression they pull the rug from under you!! They now require a $30 Cashapp deposit prior to guaranteeing your appointment. Then once I changed my appointment due to out of town travel, my appointment was changed to a day that I hadn't scheduled. When I requested to have my deposit returned- I was denied. I continuously emailed and texted the owner (Lili)to reschedule, only to have my attempts ignored. I called Lili to confirm the night before my Friday appointment. She cancelled this appointment, due to being out of the salon. I called to confirm that she would braid me the next Friday- to secure my appointment or book elsewhere. She was extremely rude and unprofessional with me- but asked me to call the salon the next day. I planned to go the following Friday but after rethinking the entire situation- I decided that the $30 deposit wasn't worth the hassle nor disrespect. Unfortunately, it seems that the first impression was only to lure in new customers. The gospel music was a ploy to imitate a positive work environment. I would rate this place with 0.5 stars if possible. I had come here many times to get a simple boxer braid cornrows style. Liked them b/c it was cute & cheap. Yet recently when I went to get 2 cornrows, I called and told the price was $35 with my own hair. After it was finished they charged me $50 saying It's because I brought my own bag of braiding hair. Not my using "own hair". When I kept ask why they wouldnt honor the price they quoted me, even when I tried to confirm the price at the start of service, they claimed they didnt "hear me" and then they said I could have gotten 4 cornrows at that same price. By that time it was too late. While the style served its purpose, the lady put so much gel on my hair that when I washed it my hair clumped up into chunks and is at a severe risk of breaking off. I don't know what cheap ass Gel they use but never in my 20+ years have I had my hair loc up like this after braids!! Terrible customer service and I will not ever come back here again. read more

Braiding palace took me from drab to FAB in four hours! I made an appointment at 6 am for medium box braids. When I arrived to the salon a few minutes early the stylist had already prepped the hair so she was able to start braiding right away. I have really thick hair so I was surprised that a service that typically takes anywhere from 6 to 8 hours was cut in half. Not only was she quick but each braid is the same size and the quality of her work is pristine! Speaking about PRISTINE, the shop is really clean! I was hesitant to get my hair braided because of the pandemic but, I felt more comfortable when I saw that they sanitized all tools, the styling chairs before and after every service, everyone in the salon had masks, and the styling chairs are arranged with social distancing in mind. First and last time I will ever go here. Less than 3 hours later and I'm taking out my braids because my hair is breaking off. First red flag: No real check in system. You can make an appointment if you want to but it doesn't matter. The stylist don't introduce themselves. You get whoever is available when they're available. My first stylist took a blow dryer to my hair without a heat protectant and kept coughing under her mask. I say first stylist because halfway through my hair I had to use the bathroom and when I came back two minutes later she was working on someone else. Five minutes later someone else comes over without introducing themselves and starts my hair again. The second stylist, who I pieced together was the owner due to her barking orders, braided my hair so tight that I could hear strands breaking. It got worse when more and more walk-ins came in and she started rushing to get already seated customers out. She left me twice to go help other stylists finish up customers, one of which was a little girl who kept crying because the braids were too tight. They even mocked the girl in French. The second stylist kept taking personal calls while doing my hair and took her shoes off walking around barefoot. I have a relatively long torso so they kept making me slide down in the chair to braid my hair instead of standing up. So by the time I was done I was in a lot of pain both my head and my back and shoulders. Also at the end they asked me how I was paying and then told me that I would have to pay an additional $5 for using a credit card. It doesn't say that anywhere on their website nor does it say it at the counter or on the door before you get your services done. And as far as that $30 deposit for making an appointment on the website, there's no check-in feature for that either. They just ask you in good faith whether or not you paid the deposit. I learned my lesson. I will go to a licensed cosmetologist from now on because for these prices I deserve someone who's going to take care of my hair and honor my time. read more
