My friend and I heard so many great reviews for this place that we just had to try it for ourselves. We both got the Nashville chicken sandwhich with level 3 Ghostpepper spice, and a side of fries. The fries were cooked to absolute perfection! They were crispy on the outside and soft and potatoey on the inside. The sauces they provide are also all so good! We tried both the fry sauce and the carolina honey bbq sauce and both were super tasty. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the chicken sandwhich was too juicy. Don't get me wrong, dry chicken is never the move, but the chicken juices caused the sandwhich to be soggy. At one point, my sandwhich turned into mush. The bun was soggy, my sandwhich had juice dripping onto the plate, and the chicken was practically slipping off the bun. Overall, the flavor is there, but we just wish the sandwhich was crispier. That being said, we're definitely coming back to try some of their other options; as well as those fresh donuts! read more

Full disclosure, I have yet to set foot in The Test Kitchen. However, I have known and worked with Chris and Kerry for over 10 years and it's no surprise to see this place humming along. Chris is probably the funniest human being I know and I will always give him credit for teaching me how to make tres leches cake. And it's awesome to see Kerry rolling out his potato starch donuts. The newest addition to the Stadium Village area and its amazing! Currently serving hot beef and cheddar sandwiches and to die for doughnuts are all around delicious. Definitely hits the spot for the location demographic. Well priced and good portions, I hope this place is here to stay. Both times I have had "The Pat" with the mango habanero cheese which is so flavorful and juicy! Doughnuts have a crispy outside and extremely soft inside. MUST EAT RIGHT AWAY! At the moment they have a toppings bar for the doughnuts which is fun and so you can control the amount of sugar. I got a Cruchburger combo which was an amazing burger - there is something about their house made pickles and the way they combine with the other toppings and mayo that is just delicious. Tots were also great, the sauce options are plenty - creamy jalapeño and the fry sauce were my two of choice and the highlight of the meal. The glazed donut is probably the softest donut I've ever had, it was a touch on the oily side, but still gets two thumbs up. It is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

This place is probably the best American style food place on campus. All of the food is of pretty remarkable quality, and taste good. The Kenny Melt in particular is absolutely goated, and one of the best things I have ever had. Despite the quality of the food the prices are very affordable, and pretty comparable to a lot of lower quality options in the area. Having fresh customizable doughnuts (and these doughnuts are fantastic) as a cheap side is a stroke of genius, and the tater tots are quite good as well. The service is swift and the workers are polite. It's also got a great atmosphere both for going alone and for going out with friends and family. My kid goes to school at the U of MN and couldn't stop talking about this place. I checked it out on Saturday before a football game. It's a walk-in and order at the counter restaurant. Lots of seating and not too busy (yet). The menu is extensive and all of it looks good but I'll focus on what I had, The Chicken and Waffles! Go ahead and explore the rest of the menu but definitely get this. Not sure how they did it, but the waffle has air bubbles instead of indents. Definitely some high-tech cookery going on but insanely good. Chicken was fried perfectly. We also had the Philly beef which was amazing. FYI, there's no alcohol service (at least in Oct '22) but who cares with food like this. Eat at the TestKitchen and get your drink at 100 other places in the area. You'll be glad you did. read more

Arrived off peak hours (2:30ish) and had the place to myself. Used the QR code to peruse the menu...went with the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese, fries, and felt like I had to try their a shake. I was wondering about the donuts that I saw mentioned, but couldn't find the option to add one to my order, so thought I would just pass on that this time. First of all, the sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. Buffalo sauce wasn't too much & melted cheese throughout was amazing. Secondly, I was surprised when I received not 1, but 2 donuts! One must come with the meal & 1 comes hanging on the shake! There also is a donut topping station, which I did not use. Quantities were more than sufficient. It's been a long time since I've written a Yelp review but I had to rave about this place. I'll get straight to the point, YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIFE. Not just because the donuts are freshly made to order, with squeeze bottles of frosting and shaker bottles of sprinkles to dress up to your satisfaction, though it was about time for that, right? You NEED a cheeseburger from a place that takes cheese seriously. Glorious gouda, serious cheddar, or your choice of specialty cheeses that will spill out the edges of your fresh brioche bun and caramelize. The cheeseburger is $7, perfectly cooked with just a hint of pink in the center, and combined with the serious cheese and buttery bun, ohhh my oh my, it all just melts in your mouth. Oh, and lovely dilly homemade pickles, lettuce, tomato, and your choice of house-made sauces. Today I tried the portabella ($9), not wanting to totally ruin my diet, and it was also superb, juicy without ruining the bun, with a nice pepper cheddar. Heard good things about this restaurant and finally got a chance to try it out. Did not disappoint. They were on their summer menu, so fewer choices, but still excellent. Had The Pat and what a meaty, cheesy, juicy burger. A delicious melding of flavors that satisfied the carnivore in me. Had the "beef sauce?", I honestly don't remember the name but it was a perfect flavor pairing on the sandwich. For a side I went for the house seasoned tots. They were crisp, yet tender, and although slightly salty, I wouldn't complain with a little "fry sauce?" On them. Again I don't remember the exact name, but the chef working let me know what to try on each from their selection. Each meal comes with a donut which was fresh and warm. Various toppings to choose from, so I went with the Mexican vanilla and cherry. Great ending to a great meal. Will be back again when I am near the U of MN campus again. read more
