We found this spot in our roadtrip and decided to check it out. This is a looong dead end road (technically a park) filled with fishermen , an area for shrimp boats, plenty of people walking and then there's the beach area. They do charge to come in but only in the weekends. The gazebos seemed recently built and they were really nice. There's no actual bathroom anywhere so be ready to use the portable restroom they have all along the road. They weren't as bad as I was expecting so that was a plus. The birds are used to people and food so do not leave food or even bags with food unattended, they will eat it. Lesson learned lol

Perfect spot for fishing, exercising, picnics and overall enjoyment of the outdoors. They have signs for an entry fee, but the many times I've been here, I've never seen anyone collecting money (plus I have a city sticker anyways) I used to "hike" this area a lot with my moms club. There are plenty of nearby parks that are well kept. I've never made it to the end- one of these days I'd like to try it.

We came here because of the easy access to fishing. We made a five hour drive to check this place out. We stayed for an all nighter of fishing. The weather is very calm. The was a nice breeze to help keep the mosquitoes off of you. There was a $5 fee to get it since it was the weekend. I heard it was free during the week. We were only able to catch a few trout and will definitely be back in the future! If you are a fishing lover, then this is the place for you!

Went fishing there this afternoon...started at the very end of the dyke, then moved to a pier closer inward. There was two piers where we were and a family was crabbing next to us. After the THIRD dr pepper can floats by AND a SECOND cigarette butt...I asked them to STOP polluting the ocean; they laughed it off and said it was from Hurricane Harvey. I hate losers of a human. We all left at the same time...they left a PLASTIC water bottle on the pier (wait, no they're not littering...it's Harvey?!) I went and picked it up (they saw me) and I put it in trash can near us; I did that without even flipping them off. The dyke is a great place to fish, get your fishing license, bait and fresh seafood to chow on courtesy of Boyd's. If you're not a Texas City resident you'll need to go w/someone that is.

Texas City Dike is one of those things you have to experience when in Texas City. We like to stop at BOYD'S for crawfish and go to the end of the dike to watch the ships on the ocean as they come into Galveston. Very beautiful drive.

Choppy areas.. make sure to come on a calm day

I love going fishing in this area. I grew up going to Texas City Dikes.. you really have to make sure you go in a day where the waters are expected to be less choppy or you won't have luck. I advise to bring a long salt water pole to cast far out.. you'll get stuck in the rocks every time since the current pulls the lures in. Very relaxing area!

Lots of fun and entertaining for inquisitive minds exploring nature.

Close to my home and a family favorite for many years. Watch the ships pass into the plants and fish off the rocky banks. Launch your boat and leave you vehicle close. Great area for sailing or just sunning on the beach. Families welcome. Great place for BBQ and picnics. Bait shops and convenience store near by. Clean and well maintained.

That was definitely fun leaving SE Houston to enjoy a day out just near the water and away from the noisy city life. You have water that is seemingly cleaner than Galveston, but no hate because I do love Galveston. If you'd like to go fishing, there are lots of fishing fanatics out and about catching the biggest and baddest fishes. On one side you have a choice to venture off the rocks to fish or stay on the beach. The choice is in your hands. You drive on down to the end of the rope and you will find areas where you can dip your boat into the water. Does the little one or big people have to potty? Lots of port-O-potties everywhere along side of the beach side. The one I visited wasn't smelly, so that was a wonderful sign. No soap or hand sanitizer though! The beach side you will find lots of cool seashells that you usually wouldn't find out and about; the ones here just stand out and are easily found which is pretty awesome. ATTENTION HERE: The beach is very clean and the sand feels great! I did notice a pet rock that someone left..the poor thing had a "leash" tied around its body..I did take it on a walk for a bit. Years ago, the beach used to be free, but due to messy humans that don't know how to clean up or was either never taught..the city decided that it was best to start charging five dollars to encourage people to stop littering and start cleaning--ALL THAT and it worked! Five dollars minimum no tax included!! Speed limit is 25 mph; I saw some patrons disobeying that rule while I was leaving the dike. You aren't supposed to be an inch away from the next car, if you are you know you aren't driving the speed limit. I even noticed a park ranger doing it. So come on out to the dike and leave your busy lifestyles just for a day or two!

Came out here today for some fishing. But today there was no bites. But there was a lot of people here fishing. The view is very pretty and plenty of fishing spots.

This place is awesome! It is near Rainbow park. Admission is only $5 to enter when the yellow card says 10 and it is well worth it! If your a Texas City resident it's free. On the sandy side of the dike you can play in the water or in the sand just like at a beach. On the other side where it's rocky. That's the fishing spot, saltwater fishing. When I came I caught a catfish, I haven't in awhile either. Sometimes people will be in the water on the rocky side to catch bait or spear fish. When I came I was unaware of how rocky the rocks were. Me and my friend got our lines caught up so many times. Good thing we had backup gear. Shrimp boats and ships sail in the same water so the water can get a little clashy on the rocks. But the breeze oh wow! It is soo breezy and warm out there. The wind never stopped blowing in my face. Careful of your speed when entering. It is 25mph, Cops will pull you over and ticket ya'. It is advised to have your license on you. Never know when the game warden will show up. Crabs, baby sharks, catfish, trout are out there and the mosquitoes are no joke. All I felt was pins and needles poking me. There is an area to use the restrooms. Two portipotties near the beach side and trash cans. Just don't forget light or drinking water. Lighting is very crucial when fishing. This is great spot to come and chill. Why go to Galveston and fish, when this place is right on the same route. Oh I had such a good time fishing. Can't wait to take my Abu Garcia out! ;-)

    Foggy day but Fun Day!

Being from the area we have been to the dike a few times. Fishing is hit and miss but the memories with the fam is priceless. The hardest part is the no bathrooms other than the portapots. Boyd's one stop is right at the front so you can grab your bait there. And if you happen to NOT catch on your trip you can hit them up for some seafood on the way out. :)

There's nothing there anymore since Ike and I hear they won't let them rebuild. Can't fish without getting caught up in rocks.

While the lagoon itself is nice, it didn't quite live up to what we had envisioned. It felt more like a very upscale neighborhood pool with some fun features -- which would've been fine had we gone in with that mindset. The atmosphere was more of a party vibe -- loud, crowded, and high-energy -- which wasn't what we were personally looking for. I had hoped for a more relaxing experience, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Considering the price, I didn't feel it was worth the cost. The cabana rentals were surprisingly expensive -- even more than what we've paid at actual beaches, like in Cozumel. The highway visible in the background also took away from the overall ambiance. In the end, it just wasn't the right fit for our family. For the price, I'd prefer a beach day or a quieter pool where we can truly unwind.

If you come here expecting Florida's clear water, you might miss what makes Galveston special. The water can appear brown at times, but that's due to natural sediment shifting with the tides, not because it's dirty. Once you understand that your whole perspective changes. What I've come to love is the experience. Walking along the Seawall, day or night, there's always something happening. Different energy, different crowds, different moods depending on the season. It never feels the same twice. Galveston's seawall beaches isn't about perfection, it's about presence. And when you meet it that way, it's actually really beautiful.

It all starts with José Antonio de Evia who surveyed the land in 1783 for the Spanish governor, Bernardo de Galvez. There are also pirates in this story. Jean Lafitte and his crew of buccaneers made this island their hideaway in 1817 after discovering this beach. There was even a fortress built here in 1897. You can still see some of the remnants jutting out from the seawall. It was rebuilt after the Storm of 1900 and named Fort Crockett after Davy. Make sure you look up towards the San Luis Resort to see the Battery Hoskins bunker that is still there. The point is that it's more than just a beach made famous by a devastating storm. Sure, there are many memorials and historical markers along the seawall. There are also many fun activities such as the 61st Street Fishing Pier and the Pleasure Pier as well as art that has beautified the seawall. There's a stretch of beach between 6th and 61st street called the Seawall Interpretive Trail. About 70 concrete benches were transformed into mosaic art by Artist Boat. These pieces highlight Galveston's beaches. We didn't get to see all of it. It's a lot of beach to cover during a short stay before a cruise. We were simply mesmerized by everything around us as we were walking along the seawall across from our hotel. There were pods of pelicans flying over and seagulls on the rocks and breakaways. The view along the seawall at sunset was stunning. It was a great time to see it. It even brought back childhood memories for my husband who was born here. We enjoyed our stay on the beach even though it was a short one.
