"The Family Room" has quite literally given me the family I needed at a time I needed it most. I became a new mom the year after losing my own mom and lost my dad only two months after giving birth. The combination of new life and loss of life was truly breathtaking, but Liz and the moms I met through her newborn class performed emotional CPR when I was gasping for air. We all came in with drastically different birth stories, ranging from idyllic to life threatening, and Liz provided a safe space for all of us to celebrate, support and lean on one another. She curated weekly lessons that prepared us for each stage of the first year so it didn't feel like we were flying blind, and she recommended we form a WhatsApp group to provide support for one another outside of class. That group quickly became a place for all things mom- cute, fun photos, planning for weekly meetups, both with and without babies in tow, sharing toys and clothes, and sharing experiences. Bottle fed, breast fed, working, stay at home, hybrid, sleep wave, bed sharing- you name it, we had it. Most importantly, we had a place where we could share the pure joy of motherhood one minute and complain about the crippling difficulty the next, knowing that the two can coexist. Hooray for postpartum mental heath! Some moms and babes were only in series one, and some continued on, but we all stayed in touch and attended one another's one year birthdays whenever possible. We took it a step further by planning an epic joint 1-year celebration in the park where we all pitched in. Almost half the class will be going to the same preschool next year. In a town like LA that can feel so big and anonymous, The Family Room helps you find your village. I couldn't have made it through this first year without them!

The two at-home sessions leading up to my hospital birth were so informative and really made my husband and I feel as prepared as possible to think through lots of different scenarios (and much more informative than any labor course we took!). Robyn is clearly incredibly experienced, professional, and so deeply cares about the mamas and partners she supports. Robyn was always available and on the night I went into labor, she was in constant contact guiding us during the time leading up to our hospital arrival. She was there waiting for us at 1am ready to go - she was so prepared and immediately made me feel at ease for this unknown experience. All of the techniques she offered me, the constant emotional and physical support during labor (she is a talented masseuse!!), and her encouragement and backing of all my birth preferences (including ensuring our gender reveal stayed a surprise until the very end!) made the day such a positive experience. Not to mention, had Robyn not been there, I felt there was a very high likelihood I would have had to have had a cesarean birth due to my extended labor process. Instead, the techniques and positions Robyn worked with the doctors and nurses to offer meant that I got to have the safe and healthy delivery I had hoped for. Robyn also set an incredible vibe (music, candlelight, relaxing aromatherapy, honey sticks for energy!) that made the room feel special instead of cold and sterile.
