I walked into "The Tile Guy" this afternoon ready to pick out tile and write a check. I'm redoing the entire first floor, about 1500 square feet, and I was ready to write a check for all the tile, supplies, and installation. Several people had told us how great the place is and how they are willing to deal and how they have a huge selection of tile. I had heard only positive things about the store. Based on that my wife and I decided that we were going to buy our new tile from "The Tile Guys". I walked into the store and I was impressed by the huge numbers of samples on the walls. I was not impressed by the fact that there are no descriptions of the tiles on display. No information at all is posted next to the tiles. No manufacturers names. Not even prices. As far as I can tell there are no prices posted anywhere in the store. The reason a store doesn't post prices is so they can jack them up if they think you can pay more. They also do that so they can up sell you without giving you a hint that they are doing it. Without information you can not compare their prices and quality to the prices and quality available anywhere else. So.... I have to wonder how all those people who said they got a good deal at "The Tile Guy" know what kind of a deal they got? Oh my. I had expected that I could walk in, find tile in the right price range, the right color, and the right size with out having to fight my way through some salesman trying to sell me something I don't want at a price I'm not willing to pay. But, it looked like I was going to have to do that. But, the place was so highly recommended that I decided to talk to the sales people at the store anyway. So, I'd been walking around the store for about 20 minutes and I had not been approached by a sales person. How odd I thought. Several other people who came in after me were talking to sales people. How odd I thought. So, I tried to make eye contact with a sales droid, you know, the way you do to let them know that you want to talk to them when they are done with their current customer. But, every time I tried, with every sales person I saw, as soon as I made eye contact they looked away sharply. How odd? I was walking around being ignored when I looked out the window at the parking lot and realized that my car was at lest $20,000 cheaper than the other cars in the parking lot. I looked around in the store and realized that the wardrobes of the people in the store cost more than I spend on food for a month. They have a workstation next to the door and their was one of the sale staff sitting their as I walked out so I turned to him and said "I've been ignored long enough, so I'm leaving" and I waved. He looked at me (he would not look at me when I was trying to get his help) smiled and waved good by. When I moved to Texas 19 years ago I was warned that in Texas you should never judge how much money a person has by the way they dress or the car they drive. The old guy in the beat up pick up truck wearing dirty boots, Levis, a dirty t-shirt and a beat up straw cowboy hat just might be a billionaire who has just come in from working on his ranch. I guess the folks who own "The Tile Guy" never learned that lesson. BTW, it wasn't news to me. That is the way it is all over the west. I'm not billionaire, but I was ready to write a check for a new floor. Sadly, the folks "The Tile Guy" looked at my economical car, my comfortable old Kung Fu t-shirt, my shorts, and my chacos and decided that I did not *look* like I have money so they were not interested in talking to me. Oh, I thought, they only want to deal with people who *look* like they have money. They don't want to deal with people who actually *do* have money. They were happy to see me and my check book walk out the door leave. So, even though I went in expecting to walk out with a contract for a new floor worth of tile I still have the money. I'll never go back there. The king of rudeness they displayed was among the worst I have ever encountered. To bad there is no rating lower than 1 star. I rate them at about -100 stars. BTW, anyone notice that Yelp has censored the rather large number of very poor reviews for "The Tile Guy"? I suspect that the other low reviewers were so angry when they posted that they used words you are not supposed to use on Yelp. If you take the time to wade through all the reviews, typing in the captcha to read the low rating reviews, and then look at the very bottom to see the number of low rating reviews that have been censored you'll see that "The Tile Guys" real rating is several stars lower than what Yelp shows. My guess is that the real rating for "The TIle Guy" is closer to 2 or 3 stars than 5 stars. read more

Kevin and his team at The Tile Guy are great! I recently had a small job to do in my home and having used them over the years, decided to ask for a referral for an installer. Unfortunately, the installer that a departing employee directed me to was Penn Tile (see separate review) and as you will see in my review...it was NOT a good experience. However, when I followed up with Kevin he immediately apologized, found me a great contractor to clean up the mess made by the previous guy and assured me that I wouldn't pay any more out of pocket than I had originally agreed to pay for the job. I am thrilled to give this place five stars too, as you can see below, this is the general consensus. I just went in today for Weldbond, a type of glue that has a million uses. I actually needed it both to bond glass and also for an upholstery project. Weldbond kicks Elmer's rizzo! It is non-toxic and it really works!! Let it set for 24 hours and you are good to go, that stuff if stuck!! The people that work their are AMAZING. The place was crowded when I got there (always a good sign) and it was easy to find the new glue of my dreams. I like how laid back the check-out process it, and the man that both assisted me and answered the phone was just cool all around! You could tell that everyone in there was having a tiling good time and that everyone in the building WANTED to be there. They have hard to find tiles and glue, too, and sell things cheaper in bulk, naturally. My 8 ounce (which is a lot, actually) Weldbond was just $6.45 but worth every penny. I highly encourage everyone needing tile, glass, or glue supplies to go there! This was a delightful experience! read more

We have used The Tile Guy 3 different times when renovating our home (in stages) they are professional and offer an incredible selection. We also had to change the design on our project and they gave us a VERY reasonable restocking fee, which was much appreciated. The show room is a bit cluttered but they have recently made some more room to accommodate their offerings. My favorite thing is that they have this small town feel, when you leave you feel like you've just seen an old friend which is refreshing in busy corporate Austin. Check them out! read more

Awesome service. Went in and picked out a tile for a utility room. Of course the one we picked was also one of the most expensive tiles. Owner offered and found several alternatives that were very close if not better than my original pick. Ends up the one we finally picked has quite a lot of variety and he found matching tiles from the same pattern. It was exactly the result we were looking for. It was less than half the price of the original and was in stock a couple miles away at the distributor. Very pleased with awesome service. Follow up: My installers were at the house and said they needed more thin set and grout. Called Tile Guy and they said to stop by they would grab supplies at warehouse and have it ready for us to pick up! Wow what great service and in a pinch. These guys have a customer for life! After gutting and rebuilding a sizable home, I have now had lots of experience with big purchases and customer service, and the standout through it all has been "The Tile Guy." I needed over 7000sf of flooring and tile, and I wanted the most for my money... what we all want, regardless of budget, value!!! After shopping almost every local and many online sources, I continuously would land with Kevin at the The Tile Guy! Not only is he promptly accessible (I have him on speed dial now- only sort of kidding), his prices even beat my contractor's trade pricing; it was interesting when my contractor's wood installer had to tuck his tail in between his legs when he would "lose money" trying to match the Tile Guy. Same thing happened with my 18X18 marble... and mosaics too. Same brands, same everything... the gorgeous rift cut white oak came from a brand he doesn't even carry on the floor, but he still got it and beat his competitors on pricing and service. He also located the unfindable and returned the unreturnable. Interacting with his various suppliers, I caught bits and pieces that lead me to suspect that his many years of great customer service attracts a high volume of business, and the suppliers don't want to lose his volume so his pricing trumps all. That's a win-win when you want to buy flooring/tile... best customer service, best price!!! After shopping the fanciest stores in town and the tried and true Emser, Interceramic, Daltile, etc., I bought about 90% of the exact same product from him with generous savings. The only exception being a few specific specialty hand-made items. His showroom location is not fancy, but I'd rather save the money. And during Covid, he has maintained the same level of customer service throughout it all... accessible, hardworking and giving assistance even after being paid. Over the last 18 months of working with The Tile Guy, I have gotten to know his staff and structure and this guy is a gem to them as well... he takes good care of his employees too and their happy attitudes show it... Businesses like this deserve our support now more than ever!!! I wish every person I had to team up with on this project was as wonderful as The Tile Guy!!! These guys were great! They were helpful, able to do the work quickly, etc. We used them for a kitchen backsplash. They showed me around the small (yet very packed with choices) store and gave me some options and prices. They also steered me away from white grout, which I am very grateful for. They also referred me to an installer, Cristian, who was fantastic. He's the guy you talk to, not the guy who actually does the work (who was fantastic too.) The tiles came in on time. Just built a new home at our ranch in the middle of central/west Texas. Acquiring materials was a hassle, EXCEPT FOR THE TILE. The Tile Guy staff was amazing. The store was on my way from my house to my ranch and they would leave samples out for me to pick up in the morning before hours. If they didn't have the samples, they would call the nearby distributors, who would have them waiting for me when I got there. Delivery was as promised. Although I started working with Sandy, it didn't matter if I called and got Kevin, Barry or Glenn - they all could take care of any of my questions. Selection was really large; prices consistently good; service tops. They had good suggestions and knew their products. So rare to find a place like this. read more

Denali was in constant communication when ordering our wood floors and kept us updated on delivery. A must for anyone, novice or not, to experience. They've got TILE EVERYWHERE: on the floor, on the walls, on tables, in bowls...everywhere. The three times I've been, it was bustling with DIY'ers. The guys here are knowledgeable, extremely helpful and will even give you some ideas if you ask. We went to a number of the warehouses around the Rundberg/Metric area, Home Depot and a number of the retail tile places. The prices here were by far the best in town and they had the biggest selection in glass tiles. Before purchasing they gave us the opportunity to take some pieces home with us to try out for a few days before deciding on the final order. We had our tile within 3 days. Tile design/work can be overwhelming if you've never done it before, but we felt completely confident in our choices and design once we came out of here. read more

Have bought tiles here several times over the last 15+ years... from bathroom tiles to kitchen floors, fancy hand-painted Italian tiles for a backsplash, durable but budget-friendly tiles for our kid's bathroom floor, etc. They're sooo knowledgeable. There are many kinds of tiles for many applications, and many price levels. It can be overwhelming. The folks at The Tile Guy are SUPER helpful and will even give you names of great people to install. DON'T go to a big box store for tile. The products are inferior, the glaze sometimes chips off (ask my neighbor!), the durability is questionable, etc. Plus the selection is so limited. Just go to The Tile Guy! Every sales associate was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They were also great about allowing you to take samples and made it a hassle-free process. The customer service here was top notch. We ended up needing additional tile for one of our projects and Kevin not only made sure that the additional tile was quickly ordered, he also took care to make sure that the additional tile came from the same dye lot as the original tile so we could ensure a seamless finish. We recently remodeled our master bathroom by removing a garden tub and tiny shower and replacing them with a long, walk-in shower. I visited several tile shops, but The Tile Guy was the best. Their selection is impressive, and the staff there are friendly and knowledgable. After a sewer leak during the OU/TX game we were out an entire downstairs worth of flooring. We decided to do wood plank tile with Glenn Ramsey at The Tile Guy. We shopped around and The Tile Guy had the best selection and prices. Glenn also made this process stress free and was fun to work with. If you have ever remodeled a home or done any type of home repairs, fun is not the first word that comes to mind. I highly recommend working with Glenn Ramsey so you can enjoy your remodel work and not worry about whether you are getting a good price or if the tile will actually show up on time and the right color, enough quantity, etc. Glenn referred us to a few tile installers and we chose Felipe from V & V Flooring based on his response time, reasonable price, and professional demeanor. I will update this review once the tile is received, installed, and the project is all done. So far though Glenn Ramsey is your guy - just drop by and see him. I wouldn't waste your time or gas driving around all day when one stop will do the trick. Everyone told us just to go here and we should have listened. Please, PLEASE come here to buy tile instead of the big box stores. This place is fabulous, practically pornographic for a tile and stone lover such as myself. They have an amazing selection, everything from hand carved Italian glass tile to travertine and ceramics. The staff is very helpful, and, unlike other places, they won't get tripped up by their stunning ignorance or a wet clean-up in Isle 4. They also sell tile by the square foot, not by the box, so it's great if you have a small project. I recently went to another tile showroom, and I felt under-dressed and under-paid. This place is very casual, and they LEND you samples, just bring 'em back when you're done. Who does that these days? Come here, you'll thank me. read more

First we went to a big box store that starts with an L and strained our marriage spending way too long trying to figure out what would work with what, what the heck it costs, etc. with not a helpful face in sight. We were there so long we got hungry and left with confusing numbers swimming in our heads and neck sprains from trying to look 12 feet up at the samples. Then a holy light came down and I went to an actual tile store. The Tile Guy is a busy place, but if you can be a tiny bit patient, a very nice and knowledgable person will help you. They are really helpful and not al all pushy. They have any kind of tile you want for any budget. I told them I wanted a beige or grey large rectangular bath tile and the very nice man steered me toward the $2.89/square foot tile that is gorgeous, modern and will minimize the number of cuts I'll need to make. Then he helped me calculate the square footage, gave me all his tips for installation, ordered mortar, caulk and recommended the nicest grout color to match--with actual samples to look at! What?? They do not charge you until they know the tile is there and they sent me home with a sample just to be sure I liked it. Why did I go to that big evil box? read more

I wish that I had the same experience that many other reviewers seem to have had... unfortunately ours was pretty poor. We went to The Tile Guy based on all the reviews, and because we wanted to support a local store instead of HD, etc. This place is busy, so be prepared to wait for assistance if you have questions. I'm not faulting them for this - they're busy - and they were nice when they were able to address our questions. We decided to purchase tile from them. We had a contractor coming the following Monday, and they said it would be in and they'd call us on Monday morning with an update re: timing. No call. We would call and leave message after message. Nothing until Wednesday, when we decided to intercept the tile at the warehouse before it got to the The Tile Guy to save time. We had already been losing money on the contractor that was at our house without the supplies to do the work. THEN we asked a question about the laminate wood flooring, as Kevin was adamant that laminate would be a good fit for us. We had been hearing about the formaldehyde emissions that contained carcinogens, so we asked what the emissions level was. No answer again. A few days later we received an emailed generic letter entitled "60 Minutes Letter" from The Tile Guy, which was simply forwarded from a sales guy at one of the companies importing the unregulated laminate from China. It never addressed the emissions level, but simply said it "met code". Granted there's no code for laminate in China. Though we were told by Kevin that "all laminate is made in China". In short, we ended up purchasing laminate, but from another store that only sold laminate made in the US with the emissions level clear. We felt like customer service was severely lacking from The Tile Guy. Additional note: The Tile Guy does not do installations but does recommend installers - they provided us with contact for two guys to install our tile. One guy never returned our call despite three VMs, and the other quoted us 2.5 times higher than the original quote that we received. Even if you go w/ The Tile Guy for purchase I would not use their recommended installers. read more

Kevin is the best! Have been meaning to write this review for a while now. We'd ordered a 20 by 20 dal tile. On the day they were supposed to deliver, just half hour before we get a call sarong they don't have the tile in stock in the warehouse. The people laying the tile were already waiting. We were really upset. Turns out the warehouse people had made a mistake. They showed they had the stock in the system. Kevin gave us an option of choosing a different tile. We rushed to the store. To make sure he himself came to the warehouse, gave us a most expensive tile for the same price, waited there for over an hour and personally delivered the tile. I was initially not happy that they did not reply to my email, but then I got an email a couple weeks later apologizing and saying they had missed my email. I went in today, and the gentleman was very helpful and let me have a tile for free since I only needed one. Considering it is practically within walking distance of my house, I will definitely go back when I redo my bathroom. :-) read more
