I hired Eliab of The Good Tile to remove our 90s bleh kitchen floor tile, remove our backsplash tile, and install over 300 square feet of new flooring tile plus new backsplash, and extensive accent wall tiling in the backsplash tile. My new floor tile has a pattern, and the backsplash tiles were 2.4" x 8" ceramic hand glaze ceramic tiles, and so neither would be easy to install unless the tile installer was very skilled. I thought the review photos on Yelp showed Eliab already has an extensive body of work done well, and I loved that he specializes in tile so I knew that he should be very competent at it. And he and his guys Salvi and Rafael were excellent! They worked hard and did very precise work. That was a ton of cuts and joints to line up perfectly with all that subway tile, and it looks wonderful. The cuts around light switches and power receptacles: also precise. He was as good as his word about showing up, doing it right, and cleaning up as they went. He earned my trust, was good to work with, and I would happily hire him again. I definitely recommend! I will post pictures for now as is - but keep in mind the construction is still going on so they will not look as great as they should. From my perspective, this felt like the job was lowballed up front to get my business, with the real cost becoming clear only after the project was already underway. What happened next was even worse. Eliab was supposed to return the following week to finish the tile work and dispose of the tub. I texted him to confirm the schedule and materials, but he would not return my calls. Then he did not show up. No explanation. No professional courtesy. No accountability. He left my kitchen unfinished, failed to complete the work he agreed to do, failed to remove the tub as promised, and left me having to hire another contractor to finish the job. To be clear, I did not hire a random plumber on my own. You recommended and coordinated the plumber as part of this project. The issue is not simply that his pricing was separate. The issue is that the plumber stated you already knew the correct rate, yet you quoted me a lower amount up front, which made it feel like a bait-and-switch once the job was already underway. That is a serious communication problem, and as the contractor who brought him into the job, you cannot now pretend it had nothing to do with you. More importantly, this was not just about the plumbing. You were supposed to return the following week to finish the tile work and dispose of the tub. I texted you to confirm the schedule and materials. You did not return my calls, and then you did not show up. That is not a misunderstanding. That is a no-call/no-show. As for your claim that nothing was left unfinished, the photos I uploaded speak for themselves. The entire kitchen tile work was not completed, and I was left having to hire another contractor to finish the job. I would not have posted photos of unfinished work if the work had been properly completed. Your response also ignores the inconvenience, added expense, and stress caused by your lack of follow-through. Review for The Good Tile So for the longest time I have wanted new tile in the shower. I put it off because I didn't think anyone could complete quality work, regardless of the price. I feel like most contractors perform mediocre labor and have no artistic talent, so I thought, what's the point? After interviewing several contractors, I found Elias and his team at The Good Tile. I was looking for someone who was knowledgeable, hard-working, and was an artist to refine the finishing touches. Then Elias found the tile I wanted, and even found matching floor tile, so I could have the luxury remodel experience. I worry about the details, so every time I brought them up, Elias had already thought of it himself and completed quality work of his own initiative. I live on the 2nd floor, so I need the work to have no mistakes that a neighbor could complain about. So when The Good Tile 1st started, I asked them to make sure the tile machine had something below to catch the water, otherwise it creates a stained mess. He said of course, there is already a drip pan below the machine, but also put additional reinforcement so there were no leaks. That means I've had so many neighbors who have hired unprofessional workers who didn't know or care to do that. The tile work looks perfect. There are no uneven edges or gaps. He aligned the tiles which means there are aligned grout lines, it really makes a difference when you walk in the room. At first, I was unsure about having gray grout, but Elias recommended the grout color choice as it matches the tile. And then I see the caulking gives the white contrast I wanted. The niche is perfect in size and looks like wall art. When I was asked about what size niche I wanted, I customized my request to fit my large shampoo bottle, I am so happy I was asked about that. You want a professional who is going to think of what's best for you. I wanted grab bars installed for when my Mom visits, but after I saw how beautiful the tile was, I hesitated. Elias suggested we move the bars slightly up in alignment with the grout lines, and it looked so much better! For planning purposes, expect the first two days to be full work days, then several partial days after that. Since I have one bathroom, the hardest part was no toilet for 4 days, because the grout below the floor tile, then the grout in-between the floor tiles have to dry before walking on them. If that was the hardest part, the remodel was so worth it. I saved the hassle of a tub replacement by have it refinished, which The Good Tile knows how to do as well. Since it's winter, I'm putting the space heater in there to get everything to the point of a full cure. Never in a million years did I think I would have such a beautiful bathroom to come home to. The Good Tile Team is honest, hardworking, and executes the job perfectly. They setup a staging area for the equipment and cleaned up everyday before leaving.
