The person at the bar was very accommodating to our group and told us about the concept and made some recommendations for wines and the different options available. Enjoyed wine and some cheese at the Tippling House, but warning-this will not be an affordable evening out. We shared a bottle of sparkling rose that was very good. The prices are elevated and there aren't a lot of options for food. I love the ambiance and it's a nice experience, but be prepared for the prices. read more

The burger at Tippling House might just be the best I've had in Charleston! The ambiance is gorgeous, though I can't speak to the drinks since I was lucky enough to grab a free burger to go through Blackbird. The team here seems incredibly friendly, and the smash burger and fries alone have me excited to return to Tippling in 2025! read more

Quiet little place on a Tuesday night. We came here to knock out some weekly planning at 7:00 to wind down since my partner works out of the house. We enjoyed a nice glass of wine. The service has been excellent and the playlist has been really good. Little pricey on the food side which kept me away - not buying an $18 burger from a wine joint. Wine bar off the beaten track (this review is just for the wine, not food). You'll have to look for this place, but it is well worth it. There is an extensive wine by the glass selection that has some interesting and tasty treasures. Reasonably priced too. But if you go in on a Saturday night after 9pm you can choose to help clean out--you see, they are closed Saturday and Sunday, so they don't want to open a fresh bottle (for one or two glasses that late). We were delighted to participate in the Saturday night rinse ritual. For a very reasonable price, we could have a glass of what was opened (until it was all gone). We were told it is usually very quiet at that time, but we had a small and lively group. Great fun and a real surprise in Charleston. BEST BURGER OF MY LIFE + MOST INTERESTING WINE SELECTION + KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF. I've lived in Charleston for 3+ years and The Tippling House is definitely in my top 3 restaurants. It is UP there with Chubby Fish and Verns. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. My fiancé and I were excited to try this new spot in downtown Charleston- since we both love wine! The bar is located inside an old home on Coming Street (next to the old Taco Spot.) It was the perfect place to have a few appetizers and a glass of wine before dinner. The food menu offers up some small bites and changes often (daily? Weekly?) Gillian behind the bar was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the wine we tried, and we really enjoyed our conversation with her. Everything we ate was fantastic- we really loved the Boquerones, the Shrimp Toast (a favorite!), and the Stuffed Dates. I have been wanting to try this very quaint place for a few months. Glad I did! It is clean and nicely done and it's absolutely great for an intimate night out. Sadly I went alone and although I was made to feel very comfortable; I can say it would certainly have been more fun with a few friends. They have an awesome small plates menu and the food was excellent! I would highly recommend this place for a great night out with a date, spouse, significant other. So we have been here 4x and the other 3 x were great experiences. Met the owner on 2 x and he was very kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. This time we did not see him and it was a slow night. The waitress we had ignored us for about 20 minutes before she came over to get our drink order which was a nice bottle of wine $$$, appetizers we ordered were all not available so we settled for things they did have. Another bottle $$$. Not sure if it was an off night or just lack of attention. read more

The fixed-price dinner is offered only several evenings a week to a limit of 19 diners. Courses are served by knowledgeable wait staff and timed perfectly with hot food. The food is creative and delicious with generous servings to share. There is an extensive wine list with a modest beer and soft drink menu. The dining room is a small "living room" in the house that is charming but the noise level is deafening. Casual conversation is nearly impossible. Additionally, the seating is on uncomfortable hard benches. Overall, the dining experience is worth a visit if one is not expecting an intimate, romantic setting. My fiance and I love the Tippling House! If you're looking for a wine drinker's bar, this is the spot. The owner has a wealth of knowledge that he's eager to share each time we've visited. AND they have the option of purchasing by the half bottle! This opens up so many typically financially-restricted options. The real Charleston pros also know that the move is to put your name down for Chubby Fish at 4:30 and then travel to Tippling House while you await your table. Visit Tippling House, you won't be disappointed. read more

Super cute atmosphere, we stopped in for some drinks before dinner. Unfortunately the recommendations for wine were a little spotty. We asked for a buttery Chardonnay and the server suggested a bottle that happened to be the most expensive option, which turned out to be pretty sweet and mineraly.
