miserable. capital waste of time. drove on their toll road once at 2 am. $3 toll. i am registered with fastrak. assumed that would do it. wrong. got home just in time to see the notice and paid before the fine. had difficulty with the site making the payment. $3 service payment. just got a notice that i've been fined for non-payment. went to the website and found the charge. almost paid it (again.) went to the thetollroads.com/dispute and entered the payment confirmation number. i took a screenshot of the payment confirmation. (paynearme.com) "not valid," said the dispute page. looked up the payment on my credit card. credit card was charged, using an alias (pnm tollroads) no customer service number available on weekends. wasted at least an hour on this. they make it difficult to pay, hope to fine you at 20x the price of the toll. seems they also hide the fact you've paid, and hope you'll pay more than once and, of course, the $60 fine. read more

I went on the toll road to go to a new job I just started. I was expecting the tolls to be about bus fare prices, but my mistake. It was $9/each way. I tried to pay online, but it said I needed an online account. I made one, and still no transactions. Anyways, I added money to the account despite not being charged for my useage. I tried to pay the tolls by themselves w/o an account, but the website said my car was registered with an account. I checked it, and there still wasn't any charges. Finally a month later, I got a bill with the toll dues and violations. I called to resolve the violations since it was from website error, not from lack of trying or funds. The customer service lady tried to reduce the violations, but hung up on me after I tried to notify her that I only got the violations from website error. She said that my account didn't get charged because my account was "still pending", but how is that my fault? Now I'm waiting for an email after writing out my dispute. These people and their policies suck. I get a toll road violation in the mail. I have a toll tag and my plates are registered. They said I didn't pay a toll on 3/1/26. I check my account and they charged me for a toll on 2/28/26 and 3/2/26 so clearly my toll tags work but for some reason, the camera didn't pick it up ok 3/1/26. I write them an email via the directions on the invoice. Never hear back. Now it's May 2026. I get a second notice in the mail saying I owe $60 on a $3 toll. I notice they have a local address so I print out all my documentation and visit their customer service center. They say there's nothing they can do except offer me a reduction from $60 to $20. The guy there never looks at the documentation I brought showing my toll tag was charged the day before and the day after my violation. It's clear they don't care. Meanwhile I just want to pay the $3 fine and leave. But nope, instead I get a mall cop telling me to lower my voice and the useless rep saying I owe, at a minimum $20. $3 toll on 3/1 gets jacked up to $60 on 5/25. Then gets increased to $102 on 6/3. I've been a customer for 2 years and this is how they treat people. I was charged for passing through FasTrak when I didn't even have a car (my cars were sold), so the charge made no sense. I emailed them four times and submitted requests to fix it -- no response and completely ignored. I disputed the incorrect charge with my bank and my bank refunded it immediately because it was clearly wrong. After that, Toll Roads suspended my account. When I called, the representative didn't listen to anything I explained and just repeated that I had to pay the amount to reactivate my account -- even though it was their mistake. Awful customer service and zero accountability. If they make an error, they punish you for correcting it. I'm done. read more

I called to put my card on file, and the clerk said our tickets would be paid without penalty within 5 days. Two months later, we get a letter charging $210 in penalties for unpaid tickets. I was sent a bill in September for a 5th Wheel trailer we sold 6.5 years ago. I have been dealing with this stress for over 3 months. I continue to receive extra charges for not paying 3 months ago.I have filled out all of their forms multiple times. I was told I could email them with my proof. I went so far as doing internet searches to get the current information on the individual who purchased our RV. I called him and he confirmed his son brought the RV to SLO County and lives in it. I sent two different chats from DMV. I sent them a cease and desist and threatened I would contact 3 government agencies, which I did over the weekend. I pay my bills the day they arrive. I am elderly and disabled and now my hair is falling out due to stress. I have made approx 20 phone calls along with the same amount of emails and have proof. As other people have written, Jose isn't very good. His job is to help people but he started by grabbing his phone, checking it and being very dismissive with any questions I had while his coworker sitting beside him was playing solitaire on his computer just watching and smirking. Maybe it's because I am Asian, but he just didn't want to deal with me even if I spoke English fluently (I'm 48 and a US citizen). He basically told me to go home and destroy the Fastrak. This organization has been an absolute nightmare to deal with -- and the reviews speak for themselves. I've had such a bad experience that I've filed an official complaint with the state. My advice? Get a FasTrak transponder through any other provider. Be warned: if you dispute tolls, they may simply wipe your account and transponder information without notifying you, like they did me. I currently have an account with Metro express lanes. My transponder from them works with all of the Orange County transportation being 91 express lanes, toll roads, and Metro express lanes. I'm gonna try to make this story not too long, but I had a license plate with GRRR300. And the 91 express lanes and the toll roads each gave me a ticket saying that my License Plate wasn't on their reading system, which is connected to the DMV. After months of going back-and-forth. I realized that on the paperwork they were sending me with the ticket read a license plate of GRRR3OO. So after going almost a half a year back-and-forth, their readers read the letter Os after 300 instead of 0s. I continuously called them and told them it was their mistake that their License Plate reader was reading it wrong and had Os instead of zeros. And they said, even though that was the case, the ticket still stood and they even put a hold on my registration on my car. I told him I was not paying because I had done nothing wrong and it was on their end that needed to be fixed and they just kept telling me it was the DMV's fault. So now I went to AAA to get tags for my car and they said I had five citations against my car and I wasn't allowed to do anything until those were taken care of. So now I have gone through hours on the phone back-and-forth with them and now gone to the AAA and have wasted more of my time because of their wrongdoing. I need to speak with somebody to get this figured out because nobody apparently could help me after hours and hours on the phone with them. I also would like to be reimbursed for my time. read more

They charge you for using the roads even when you do not enter the main toll road freeways. When I was lost after missing the MacArthur Road from Jamboree Road in Irvine, I accidentally entered the side lane that leads into the main 73 freeway, but I exited before the main freeway began and exited via the off-ramp station on my way to the Newport Beach Public Library. They charge you fines for not having a transponder, even though I heard the beep and saw the red light go off from the transponder I had on the car. They refuse to remove charges and fines (I had the transponder which did beep, which is how they found me in the first place) when I was literally lost and did not even enter the main 73 freeway at all. So, I did not use the 73 toll road, yet I have a massive fine, and all the representatives yell at you and tell me it's not their problem and that I don't have a transponder. Horrible customer service can be easily realized from the overall rating of 1.4. The CEO, or the prsident should be ashamed of himeself because of this rating. Look at other private and Government Organizatios and see their yelp rating. MY CC no. was changed and they suspnded my account, I could not update a new CC number on the Website, like any other normal company, and, had to call them and go through one hour of waste of time. It took the operatoer 10 minutes to give me the name and license no. of cars I had in the account. They had to place me on hold twice to send me to CC procedure. They have a very antiquated software system, wasting customers valuable time. I wish the management can read my feedback. they do not need to completely disconnect the customer from the account forcing them to call the phone number. Around one hour of my time and the customer service time were wasted, I am sure they pay her at leats $25/hour. I hardly ever write negative reviews. But this is a scam. I put my credit card in to be saved for the charge three days after and I still received a bill with penalty fees. Absolutely predatory. They charged me a fee without my knowledge just for having an account, and then charged a late fee for not paying that fee which they had added for me NOT using their roads. Which I will not pay on principle so now I can't keep a credit card on file with them. It's a typical dark pattern...super easy to get charged and have massive fees added, with mechanisms to reduce people actually paying on time. The Toll roads own me. My car's registration is 2 yrs old and it's because of the Toll Rds. Driver beware! They charged a $230 penalty on a toll amount of $16 because I mistakenly forgot to pay the toll. I called and they "reduced the penalty" but the reduced penalty amount was still more than the cost of the actual toll. This seems quite questionable and is beyond an unfair policy. I use the toll roads, and I appreciate them, but I lost my debit card and had to get a new one and I had a death in the family and I failed to update my debit card on the toll roads. I was charged $55 and then a week later $87 I was very unhappy with this, but that's part of driving on the toll roads so, lose your debit card. I've had my account since the beginning of the 241 Toll Roads. What most people probably don't know is there are two 'shake down' entities in the OC, the other is the Riverside Express. I scheduled to have my account closed by letter (like a professional) on February 10th, 2025. Instead the 241 toll destroyed my letter and closed the account as of January 24th, 2025. When I notifed them by phone that the 3 violations fell within the period in question, they acknowledged their mistake and lowered the fees back to the original amount. Then today, another 5 toll violations are recieved for February, 2025 and they can find no record of my previous call, the original letter, the previous violations resolved, and basically they told me to go pound sand. So this is what pounding sand looks like. Do not ever trust or do business with either agency if you can avoid them. They are the same as a criminal enterprise. In the businesses I've operated for more than 40 years, you have to keep files and records for years and years, but if your in with the corrupt California agencies, you apparently can discard what you want when you want, and charge whatever seems right to pay for the bloated bureacracies of these so called agencies......they are not, they are criminal enterprises. Horrible customer service. I recently purchased new transponders because apparently you don't reap the benefits of the free carpool lanes during certain hours without the transponder even though I was told by customer service representative years ago that the sticker transponder would work for the toll roads. Any hoo I purchased new transponders for this reason. In the shipping process the shipper totally damaged the package. I contacted toll roads customer service and was on phone with them for a good amount of time until I had to be transferred to another person because apparently I have to pay to ship the damaged transponders back to them in order to get new ones or a refund. So I just canceled my account after many years of service. Customer service did nothing to resolve the bad experience on their behalf. Horrible business. read more

I received a notice yesterday and called immediately the next morning to pay a $13 fee, that increased to over $112 over night. In addition, to find out that there was another fee added for a total over $250! I received only one bill! I also explained that I've always been on my employers Toll account, but apparently that recently changed. I requested supervisor. Then I was told they would discount it down to $44 IF I OPENED AN ACCOUNT & put my credit card on file. If I DIDN'T open an account, the charge would be over $70!! That is extorsion!! I explained that a discount is a discount BUT they force you to open an account?!!! How does a discount go up? Unbelievable! I did so, that I actually received the discount. I called back 2 minutes later and closed the account! Only to be informed that it takes 30 days to close the account and remove my card information. Not taking the Toll roads any more!
