The theming was top notch. Our large group was paired with 2 strangers which seemed odd but the "private group" price was much more expensive than the already pricy per person price. There are multiple rooms, and we solved almost all of the puzzles even though there wasn't any sort of feedback for someone other than the guide telling us we'd done it. This was the most disappointing part since we expected the parts and pieces to have functionality. If you're looking for an experience that feels more Disney than other escape rooms you might enjoy this one but we felt it was lacking. read more

The good and the bad: The good is that there is some fun cool tech in the first and last rooms in particular (no spoilers) and all the tech worked. There are a few rooms to go through and that was fun. They have a lot of lockers (with free locks!) Foe heavy coats/bags, etc. Some of the puzzles are different takes than what you might expect. You have "Alex" with you at all times. Sometimes it is helpful. The bad: The rooms are time gated because the group in the room in front of you has to finish or fail before you can move on. That means sometimes you wait or they give you the equivalent of busywork until the next room opens. It would be better to have optional video filler at that time. They have a lot of video sequences that don't give clues and are too long. If I am trying to figure out a puzzle next to a screen, I don't want to be randomized by a video unrelated to the activity. The rooms are pretty noisy. If you have a listening puzzle it is hard to hear. Parking nearby is spendy. The worst IMO? YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR PICS AT THE END. That really irritated me. It's not a cheap ticket and having an electronic copy of a photo should be part of the package IMO. You can also choose to tip your "Alex" at the end. They aren't the most complicated puzzles especially if you are an experienced puzzler. All of them involve tech which was interesting... The only physical locks were ones on the lockers outside. I think it may be the only escape room we've done where there wasn't a single lock to solve! We solved all the puzzles and made it out. read more

My team had a great time! We had a combo of noobs to experienced players. The immersive experience with escape elements is very low barrier and was a super team building activity for us. The puzzles are fun and original and take coordinated efforts to complete. Don't go in expecting a full-on escape room; this is a guided immersive attraction with escape elements. Just relax and enjoy the amazing scenery, sound, lighting and the original adventure. I look forward to taking another team in for some workplace bonding. read more

The Tomb Raider experience was decent but not worth the price tag. The clues were very static and the correlation between each clue was hard to spot with visual impairments. On top of it all, the place passively pressured a tip toward the end. This was the first escape room where staff accompanies the group. I didn't feel like it was a safe space to be myself. Feedback: get walkie talkies, refresh the clues so the symbols are more visible, don't ask for tip. read more

My team from work attended as part of an off-site retreat. We had a great time! None of us was very connected to the Lara Croft theme per se, but it was such a fun storyline and there are so many great elements to the game that it made up for whatever we didn't know about the original content. Hourglass Escapes rooms are always so well thought out, and this time they've really outdone themselves with amazing features, lots of tech, and interesting challenges. The staff and our guide were amazing! Set design is second to none for the hundreds of games I've played. We were a group of 6 and it was perfect for us to see and solve a lot but not so much that it was overwhelming. Our guide, Alex, helped us through the whole experience with just the right amount of assistance when we needed it (and we did need it at times haha). It's is a higher price point but you do get 90 minutes and you can tell they are investing in the set and storyline so it's worth it! Wish there was the sequel to play! read more

We were extremely disappointed with the Tomb Raiders experience in Seattle. Despite being marketed as an immersive, story-driven adventure, this was absolutely not an escape room -- nor was it immersive. The entire experience was timed, and you're moved from room to room whether you finish the puzzles or not. We breezed through the first room in minutes and then stood around doing nothing while our guide, Brian -- the only actor we encountered -- awkwardly tried to stall us until a pre-programmed sunbeam effect allowed us to progress. His performance was stiff and unconvincing, and no other characters or storyline interactions ever appeared, despite the promise of a cinematic, character-driven journey. The "puzzles" consisted entirely of pressing buttons or pulling levers -- no keys, no combinations, no physical clues. The whole thing reset automatically. Of the six rooms they advertise, two were just motion simulator rooms (a helicopter ride in and out), and the remaining four were very small and basic mini-puzzles. You only spend about an hour actually solving anything, and even that feels shallow. To top it off, we paid nearly $500 for six people, and they had the nerve to charge another $15 for watermarked photos at the end. We've done numerous escape rooms that were infinitely more fun, challenging, and immersive -- for a fraction of the cost. AND THEY GASLIGHT YOU TO TIP TOO (we did not for so many reasons) Save your money. This experience was a total misrepresentation of what was promised -- not an escape room, not immersive, and definitely not worth the price. read more

My friends and I attended the Tomb Raider Experience last night and unfortunately were left feeling pretty disappointed by our experience. I emailed to ask if there could be other parties joining us on the experience if we booked as a party of 6 and received a response assuring me that with 6 people, we would have the "adventure all to yourselves". To my surprise, when we arrived for our booked time slot at 8 PM, we were informed that we were waiting on another party. I let the host know I was assured that it would be just our party and they "went to check on it" and never mentioned the mix-up again. To add insult to injury, we ended up waiting 45 minutes for the other party to arrive and didn't start until around 8:45 PM. I cannot believe that they would hold-up a group for this long for late arrivals. During our play we had multiple puzzles seemingly "solved" out of thin air so we could be rushed through the experience, Multiple tech elements appeared to be broken that may have contributed to the confusion around solving puzzles and suddenly being moved to the next phase by our room host. We were vocal about our confusion and voicing our thought processes for these puzzles, but weren't offered any strategic support by our room host in the form of hints or acknowledgment of the broken tech that would have helped with the disengagement we were left feeling. It's frustrating and disengaging to "complete" a puzzle with no clarity or feedback around which strategy worked. Additionally, having 2 extra players, for a total of 8 people, felt like too many for that room and a few of our friend group felt like they were standing around as puzzles were being solved at capacity. This further contributed to our disappointment around the added players as we missed out on large parts of the experience. Giving explicit confirmation that we would have a private experience, surprising us with another party on the day of the experience, and making us wait for 45 minutes for said party is unacceptable. Had we been informed before booking that others may join us and that the room was in a trial phase we wouldn't have booked or would've booked with 10 people. My husband and I played yesterday, and we really had a blast! I really liked having a helpful in-room GM that knew the perfect ways to encourage me if I needed. They weren't intrusive at all, and as an enthusiast I was really impressed with how seamless they integrated an in-room GM. The set design is definitely the highest quality I've seen in an escape experience, with props that make for genuine fun play. I love tech in rooms, and this experience definitely exceeded my expectations for how they made the magic happen. I definitely recommend the Tomb Raider experience for groups that want to have fun, go on an adventure to escape reality, and enjoy a high quality, immersive IRL play experience! I've done almost 10 escape rooms and this was probably the worst one. If you're looking for an escape room, this isn't one. Would not recommend. There is an employee with you in every room and you move on, even if you didn't solve some of the puzzles. There's no countdown timer...you just move on when the employee says it's time. This was the most frustrating escape room I've ever done! Many of the puzzles didn't make sense or tie together. Some of them had technical issues. The intro and exit "video experiences" were too long and boring. The host "Alex" was wildly unhelpful with hints even when we were minutes from being timed out on a room. The rooms were so loud it was impossible to speak and collaborate with teammates. The "escape rooms" were guided with what appeared to be the sole purpose of rushing you through the experience. I went through with my kids and if we went moving fast enough the guide basically gave us the answers and pushed us to the next room.
