I was asking Kelly what kind of tree I should replace my old big tree that he removed. He assessed my landscape, and came up with a quick, effective, and accurate recommendation. In contrast, when I talked to nurseries, they had trouble understanding the requirements and were all over the map. The recommendation from City of Mountain View was worse than useless. The tree the City of Mountain View recommended: 1) None of the nurseries carried it 2) None of the local nurseries even know what it is. 3) You can't special order it. I have been working with Kelly and his team for over a year now with 4 different projects. I have always been able to schedule work within a week. He has thinned and end pruned my two Deodars, cut back a Canary Island Pine, removed 60 feet of mature oleanders, topped and thinned and end pruned three podocarpus, cut back some acacias, and cleaned up a zylosma, and 4 magnolias. I made an appointment with this company to come inspect a tree. Not only did they not show up, they didn't have the decency to let me know. I waited around the whole day and called them a couple of times the day of the appointment to ask if they were still coming. Good on tree removal; poor on pine tree chip removal - a lot left mixed into remaining soil. They planted a 12 foot eucalyptus tree for us in that 80% chip soil mix at a cost of $370. No detectable growth in the following 17 months! I easily removed it yesterday, not hindered by any extensive root growth. Several inquiries about the unhealthy appearance of the tree resulted in claims that it was doing well! There was a recent promise to brace the tree to counter it's distinct 15 degree tilt. Nothing was done. No offer was ever made to make any kind of adjustment. Our total bill was $3,545. read more

Tree Team was next door removing trees from my neighbor's property, so I thought this would be a great time to get a quote, and have a tree cut down on my property.I spoke with the person in charge and he asked if I wanted a card, but I asked if they gave free quotes and if he could give me a quote. He said they would finish that job about 40 minutes later, so I told him I was going to the store and would be back, but my husband was home to get the quote. After rushing back and being relieved that I made it back in time as they were loading ....the crew packed up and left. As a potential customer, it was like a slap in the face... I understand that maybe they had to rush somewhere else, but also understand that as a business communicating with customers,as well as potential customers is paramount. These guys were great! I had a few estimates done on this job, including one shady guy that just walked up to my house as he saw I had a dead tree, checking Yelp he had horrible reviews, so I found the Tree Team on yelp. They came in higher than the shady guy, and inline with the other estimates I got from other reputable companies, so I went with them. Since my tree was overhanging my neighbors garage, I wasn't going to risk going with the shady guy. They worked with my scheduling, and completed the job this morning, arriving slightly ahead of schedule to setup. They made their first cut at 8AM and my tree was gone by 8:35, it was very impressive watching the guy in the bucket handle the chainsaw with one hand and hold on to the large branch he was cutting with the other, then swing the branch to the proper landing spot as my tree overhung by neighbors garage. Once the tree was down, he swapped the chainsaw for a blower and moved the bucket all over my neighbors garage roof to blow off the small debris. The next hour was stump grinding and general cleanup, including blowing off both my driveway and my neighbors. They left the place clean as promised and I have a nice new batch of mulch from the stump grinding. read more

I had the Tree Team remove a 35' tall palm that was leaning precariously towards the street adjacent to some power lines. They did a fantastic job, carefully dissecting the tree so as to avoid the wires. The stump was ground out 16-18 inches deep, plenty for what I plan to do with the area. Jim Lewis is very honest, experienced, and friendly and direct. I recommend him highly. Jim had to give me some very bad news about my favorite tree, which has decayed and must be removed. But the prices he gave me for removal are reasonable, and I'll be contacting him to do the job. If the area can tolerate another tree, I'll have him do that too. We needed to have a diseased 25 year old purple leaf plum removed. Kelly and his assistant showed up as scheduled, and took less than half an hour to remove the tree and grind the stump down a foot and a half. They laid sheets of plywood down to keep chips out of our landscape stone and ground cover. Site cleanup was perfect. After calling around to several places, The Tree Team were finally able to help me with my problem. My 8 month old cat decided she wanted to spend the night at the top of a pine tree. I gave them a call first thing in the morning and they were able to make it out within the hour. The reception lady (I forgot her name) was very nice and helpful. She stayed in contact with me during that hour to let me know when they would be finishing up (they were in the middle of another job), how the cat was doing and if she was still up the tree. Kelly was the gentleman that made it out to us with the bucket truck. He was very friendly, easy to work with and honest/upfront about what was going to or could happen. He gave a great effort in trying to catch her, but she got scared, started moving around to another near by tree, slipped and fell. Bad news, she fell out of the tree (which I new was a possibility). Good news she was out of the tree and just fine. If I ever need someone to get a cat out of tree again or some tree work done, I would call these guys first! The nightmare began in early August when I was quoted a price of $500 to cut down a small tree in my backyard that had beetles in it. The price also included stump removal. The person who quoted called my neighborhood "marginal", not knowing that this area near the Rosegarden had home prices rising by the month, but I ignored this as I needed the tree cut. Two weeks later he cut down the tree but did not remove the stump. In the meantime, my neighbor said that their truck hit his wood awning on the front of his house near my driveway when the workers tried to pull in their tall tree cutting truck. I called The Tree Team and left a message of this incident. Five weeks later, the contact called me to say his workers had tried to get into my backyard twice in the last week, but the gate was locked. Of course it is locked I told him. I don't let anybody go to my backyard without letting me know. He told me he had been ill with a bad back and said he could come back to finish the job. I asked if his company would put in a claim for my neighbor's house damage and he argued that it was impossible that his workers had done the damage. I let him know my neighbor saw that their truck had nipped the awning, but didn't think anything of it at the time until he washed down his house and saw the damage. My neighbor called The Tree Company, but was given the run around regarding the damage. Now my neighbor is asking that I pay for the damage to his house. Not only was The Tree Team 5 weeks late in getting the stump, they were not willing to take any responsibility for the damage. The damage cost around $350 to repair. The right thing for The Tree Company to do was to pay for the damage. Shady folks at this company and I do not recommend their services. read more
