I want to add to my previous review. After a couple of days observing the Jacaranda outside my office window, I realize that for the first time in years, the tree is perfectly balanced. No other arborist had either the expertise, or took the time to evenly distribute the pruning he was doing. When I look out my window, I see just tree alternating with sky. It's wonderful. 6 person team quick work. I had a tree stump 4 feet tall and 4-foot diameter. They chopped it down and wood-chipped it and came back later with a root grinder. however, they only grinded to 18 inches below surface. There were still some large roots. They also had 2 skilled tree climbers with ropes/harness. able to cut down a huge branch (1 foot diameter) at risk of falling on my house. Everything was turned to mulch, and they kept it. Juan helped clear a dying 50ft tall redwood tree and replanted four smaller 24 gallon trees. I live in a city that requires a permit to remove any tree and a plan to replant new trees to make up for the missing canopy. Juan helped to apply for the permit as well too. Taking down the tree and removing the stump only took one day. Juan came around a month later after I finished landscaping to plant the new trees. We used them in the past. This time we hired them to remove a huge juniper tree that was planted in 1954. It was planted about a foot from our cement block outer court yard fence. Unfortunately roots of a Juniper tree spread every where. The tree couldn't be saved. The day they came to remove the tree it was pouring rain. There were a few issues related to tree removal. The issues revolved around the clean up. The owner resolved all issues without any questions about my concerns. The owner is very professional. I had 2 trees I wanted removed from my backyard- an olive tree and a cherry blossom tree. West Valley Tree Care was the cheapest of the 6 estimates I got and they were extremely responsive. Edgar came to my house to do look at the trees on a Saturday, sent me the estimate on Monday evening, and they came on that Thursday to remove the trees. They weren't able to use a stump grinder so Edgar brought 5 or 6 workers to remove the trees by hand and finished both trees within 20 minutes. They did a great job and made sure to clean up the branches, stump, roots, and debris. I am very happy with the results and will definitely use them again! read more

I contacted West Valley Tree Care based on yelp reviews. Juan scheduled to meet me right away to discuss permitting for the removal of a large redwood tree sitting less that 5 feet from the house. I had met a number of professionals before and Juan was particularly insightful. He said he would produce the 2 reports required by the city of Los Altos - for free if I gave him the removal job ($12K), which I agreed to. So far so good... We had 2 large pine trees fall over and another 3 that were unhealthy and looked to be dying. Edgar came out to do the estimate, and once our landlord chose them, he was easy to contact and communicate with anything we needed and/or had any questions. The crew did a great job and worked their butts off! Not only did they have to cut (and clear) 5 large trees, but had to do it on this difficult, absurd hill. I had a jungle in my backyard. Literally, a jungle. Schwarzenegger and his crew fought the Predator back there. But these guys didn't blink. I called for the estimate, set a time. Boom, Edgar was there. Quick look around, sent me the estimate later that day. Great price. Very happy! On the agreed-upon work date, the team showed up, and got right to work. Remember that scene where they shot all jungle down? Well, it wasn't quite like that, but man they plowed through those bushes quick! The next day they removed the 40 ft Palm tree, and ground the stump out. They removed all the brush with a chipper, and carted it all away. We called eight or so companies to come out and quote on removing a very large eucalyptus tree in our front yard. Been cleaning up after this messy tree for years and finally a growth spurt led to the decision to remove it as most of the growth was now over our house. Juan was the only one who first tendered a COI upon arriving to evaluate the job and quote. His price was the best offered! It took about three days to take the tree to a stump and most of the morning to grind the stump to below grade. The crews were hard working and professional in every sense. They had the right tools and were focused on doing the job safely. They cleaned up after themselves every day and there is nothing that I could ask for more. Called for an estimate to remove a couple of dead redwood trees and trim a large cypress. Edgar showed up at the agreed upon time, sent a email estimate that night and was easy to work with to schedule the job. The crew was arrived on time. They were pleasant and worked safely and efficiently. Area was left clean of all debris. The cypress tree looks so much better now that it has been trimmed, and Edgar says it will withstand the wind much better. My neighbor will love that branches are no longer hanging over the roof. West Valley came out to trim our Japanese Maple tree and cut a ficus evergreen from 30 feet to 10 feet. They did a good job on the maple. They did what we asked them to on the ficus. But they did not shape the ficus. So what ever branches were on there from before were left hanging. It looked pretty bad. It took me about 10 minutest to shape it with a trimmer. A few succulents in my yard had a some damage, but that's to be expected. I thought they could have cleaned up a little better as there were a few branches and leaves still around I know I'm being hard on them with a 3 star rating, but they advertise themselves as a tree service. I would have given them a 4 star if they had at least shaped the tree. A 5 star rating would mean no damage to any surrounding plants or at least replanted the succulents and minimal clean up on my part. I would hire them again as there was minimal damage to the surrounding plants and the clean up was still pretty good. read more

We have a very tall Monterey Cypress that we wanted trimmed to prevent large limbs from spontaneously falling due to high winds. West Valley came out to check out the tree in person and ended up providing a fair quote. After finally deciding to get the job done a few months later, we reached out to confirm the job and ask for date. Lucky for us, they had an opening and their team was out the following week. They arrived on time, extremely professional and the most important - did a great job. They trimmed/cleaned out a fair amount of limbs/branches so that the wind could go through the tree reducing chance of spontaneous limb failure (which our occurred to our neighbors). On the morning I called, Juan was able to come by our home to give us an estimate on pruning 6 various trees on our property, which included 2 mature Japanese Maples. The quote process went pretty smooth, they probably got lot of business and needed to schedule mine 2 weeks later. I texted them 3 days before my scheduled job, no response. I texted them again 2 days before my job, as well as sending yelp message, still no response. I texted and called them the day before my job, no one answer or response to text until the very late night, the owner message me they had an issue with their current job and need to reschedule mine. Very disappointed because we are going to move in to the place soon, OK fine, things happened unexpectedly, so I asked them to reschedule me as soon as they could. They came back that I have to wait another 2 weeks, what??? really??? Maybe my job was too small compare to their 'big' customers, found someone else who kept their words. It was a bit of miscommunication at first, with timing not quite syncing with Jean but once he finally came, did the assessment of the trees we wanted to have trimmed and he gave us the quote, we were good to go! The quote was very reasonable, and it's amazing how much other companies were charging us for the exact same scope of work. They chopped down one tree and trimmed the other giant tree. The results were amazing! For the giant tree, you can't even tell that it was trimmed but now, you can see the sun peek through the branches and it is so cool. It started with just one guy, then the rest of the crew came to help. Shredded the clippings out on the street, cleaned up in the back and they were gone in no time.
