There's a very good reason for the great ratings First time visit. It's around 49th and Memorial and not a vicinity I get to very often. After reading the reviews and reviewing the menus, I picked up my wife for lunch (she works close to 41st and Hudson) and since we were in the ball park, decided to check out The Tropical. She had been her once before with co-workers and liked it. I actually like the look of this place, with plenty of parking and a nice little walkway past a garden area. Immediately warmly welcomed at the front door. The bar area looks very inviting with several large screen TVs, high tops, bar stools and even a few booths. We sat in the large dining area in a booth elevated along the wall. Immediately greeted by Waeodao, presented with menus and water. We ordered off the Lunch Specials section. My wife had the L4 Stir-fried Vegetables + Chicken + Not Hot ($9.95), I had the L2 Garlic Pepper + Chicken + 1 Star mildly hot ($9,95). I would go a 2 or 3 Star hot next time. They were good sized portions. She got a to-go box for 1/2 of her meal. I ate all of mine and it was delicious! We were checked on and waters kept refilled. We could easily carry on a conversation though we could easily hear conversations in the booths adjoining ours. It started getting pretty crowded close to noon. We didn't feel rushed at all. If we do anything different next time, I would ask to be seated in the bar area. As we were leaving, there were at least 5 staff who smiled and thanked us for coming. We went there for a family dinner since we had family visiting from out of town and they were craving Thai Food. This was the first time going to the Tropical and it was a nice surprise. I often drove past the restaurant but it never caught my attention until I explored on Yelp and read opinions from other Yelpers. The restaurant decor is really nice inside, I didn't really expect that given the location and the look from outside (don't judge a book by its cover!) The service was great, and the food delicious! I had the Pad Cha and the dish was flavorful and they got the spice just right! Little advice their spice level when ordering a dish is pretty accurate unlike other restaurants, I got a hot (#4) and it had a good kick! My wife got a Pad Thai and it was better than other Thai restaurants in town. The restaurant is slightly more expensive compared to your typical Thai restaurant in Tulsa but it is worth it in my opinion! read more

The thing we miss the most about no longer living in Australia food-wise is the wide variety of incredible Asian cuisine we had there--visiting The Tropical made the sting of being back home hurt a little less. It's not the easiest place to find, but it is definitely worth the trip! We went on a weeknight and were quickly seated and had our drink orders taken. They have a nice variety of domestic and Asian import beers to choose from, along with wine and other cocktails. The apps were super yummy and there we lots of vegetarian options for me! I had a curry, spicy, and it did not disappoint (they take spice super seriously so be warned!)! Full of layers of flavor, not too oily, and served with lots of rice. They also didn't hold back on the tofu, which I really like as a lot of times I feel like I get very few pieces compared to what a meat dish would offer. A little hard to find... tucked behind and between two car dealerships... the outside seems a little industrial... but then you walk into a beautifully Thailand inspired decor... Dark rich woods... stone carvings... full bar and the most fragrant curry smell that immediately gets your mouth watering. We started our dining experience with the Tropical Dumplings that come with a chicken or pork filling. We chose pork & as soon as they were served... I new this was going to be a great meal. These little hand sculpted purses were steamed to perfection and inside them was a flavorful pork filling that just melted your mouth.. Each one was topped with a fried shaved fried shallots that added a satisfying crunch to every nibble. Onto the main courses! When ordering almost every dish you get to decide which protein.. chicken/beef/pork/shrimp/salmon or vegetarian. This is great because, there is something for everyone... Then you decide on your spice level 0-5 I'm a big fan of spicy... so I chose 4... I'll go with 5 next time... but they have hot sauce available on the side... 0 stars if I could. Came to get to go food at 9:25 pm, pulled up in the parking lot and I saw worker inside staring me down from the moment I pulled into the lot until I walked in. She looked very unwelcoming and no smile, stating "Can I get you something?" When I walked in. I said I wanted food to go she handed me a menu and stood right next to me staring at me waiting for me to look over the menu and order. I said "I'll need a minute" and she respond "Well we close in 2 minutes that's why." I was very put off by the stares and rude attitude the worker was giving off. Plus how do you close in 2 minutes when you are supposed to close at 10pm? I put down the menu and left. Customer service is everything, I won't be back. read more

Thanks to Yelp for finding this place, tucked behind car dealerships I would have never stumbled upon it myself. We will definitely be back to sample other menu items, it was hard to choose. We started with the fried calamari and the chicken dumplings. Both were tasty, but a little dark for our liking as it was obvious the oil needed to be changed. I ordered the Ruby Red Cosmo and it did not disappoint, delicious cocktail! The entrees were large portioned, flavorful and the service was fantastic! Note the spice levels were not very spicy. I now know that not all 1-5 spice levels are created equal. My 1 here as opposed to another establishment was not spicy enough, so next time I will kick it up to 2. read more

Tried this place for the first time today. Our server was great, and the tropical pad Thai was amazing! We did have quite an awkward experience with the busser though. We asked for extra linens to clean up a spilled drink, and 5 minutes later she finally comes back with a linen and it was was taken from a dirty table we saw her clean off, and it even had food all over it. Tucked in an unassuming place, I found turbo-rad Pad Thai takeout at The Tropical. However, when I walked inside to pick-up, I wish I would've budgeted time to dine-in. The outside looks like a little cottage, inside transforms to a modern and sleek space full of booths, bar area and TV's. The pad thai was outrageously good and fresh. It's not too sweet like other more Americanized versions. Portion size was large; easily enough to feed me for lunch the next day, too. But it was so good, it was gone within 20 minutes. WOA! I have lived in Tulsa on and off for 6-7 years now. Reviewed and bookmarked MANY places...as you can see and this place... I was taken here by the man for lunch as a surprise bc he knew I would love it. One of my all time favorite places is Lanna Thai and The Tropical reminded me of Lanna Thai but with much more fresh ingredients and classier ambiance. I was truely impressed. I think the building is the old Flying Roll so do not be led astray by the outside of the building...you will walk in and be completely taken back! We had the L3 and L7 both with chicken and they were both amazing and gone in 5min. Service was fantastic. I have to come back in the evening for drinks!! read more

The location is the bit hard-to-find but the atmosphere, service and meals are great. They have a large bar with lots of TVs channeling sports. The decor is also pretty decent. I had their vegetarian version of Pad See Yu, medium hot (not that spicy) which was okay. I recommend trying their mango & coconut ice cream for desert. It's home made and quite good. Loved it! Yelped looking for something near the car dealership zone and found this. Had no clue of sistership to Lanna Thai! Ordered tofu panang, minus bell peppers, plus pineapple and broccoli; it was amazing! Spouse had the salmon (huge portion of fish) in the triple sauce over the mango slaw with corn cakes. So last night I found myself driving around T-Town aimlessly looking for a good place to have dinner. My main criteria? Some place I had never been. A friend of mine called and asked if I had had dinner and I let them know I had not and that I had no clue where we should go. They suggested The Tropical. I had been wanting to try it so that settled it. When we arrived we walked in and were immediately greeted and taken to a booth. The restaurant was pretty full so it was nice to not have to wait for a seat. Our waitress was friendly and did a great job taking care of us. As I always do when I'm at a restaurant for the first time, I asked the waitress for suggestions. She gave me several. I was feeling very indecisive so I asked what her personal favorite was. Without hesitation she said the Kaprao. Being that I was feeling so indecisive I asked what she thought would be the best meat to go with it. She suggested shrimp so that's what I ordered. I certainly did not regret that decision! The shrimp were huge and had excellent flavor! A very nice surprise! The food was excellent. The flavor was very very good! I was a little worried that the basil would overpower the rest of the veggies but they put just the right amount so there was just a hint of basil. It was delicious! This place is definitely on my "I'm going back to this place" list. As far as the prices...it's a little high so be prepared for that. read more

My wife and I ate lunch here and we both ordered the pad thai with chicken. The menu said that the lunch pad thai was $11.99. When we got our bill, the total was over $34.00. When we questioned the waitress about it, she said that since we didn't specify we wanted the lunch portion, she gave us the dinner portion. We've eaten there numerous times in the past and we never had this problem. It was lunch time for crying out loud. So for the taste and quality of the food, I would give it 4 stars. This place is pretty fancy. I came in after leaving the gym and felt completely underdressed. This is definitely a place you would take a date, have a business meeting, or nice family evening. They have a lot of vegan options, but regardless of your nutritional desires, you MUST try the Tropical Veggie Wrap appetizer. It is incredible! We found out about this restaurant on Yelp and since it has a 4.5, we decided to give it a try. It sure did not let us down. Good service and quality food. I had some sort of Thai stir-fry shrimp that I did like (see below). The portion, however, could have been a little bit more generous. Their Tom Yum Soup, though, is weirdly expensive. They do have a rather big bar too. Also, their patio is near by their tropical-plant-looking garden, so I think it will be nice to dine outside there when the temperature drops a little bit. read more
