Brunch with babies: I think the value was good. It was a buffet with: bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, gravy, grits, cooked apples, waffles, and cereal. They delivered 1 biscuit and pumpkin muffin per person with butter and jam to the table. There were people scooping, but I assume you could get more. The grits and sausage were so good. I don't even normally like sausage. The biscuit and jam were so good too. All the food was delicious. I saw someone trash talk the breakfast buffet in an another review, but every bite I ate was good. I just came back from Disney, this was above the standard breakfast buffet in quality. IF you are wanting a relaxing, DINKS or retired experience, I'd look at the calendar before booking. Breakfast but don't be in a Hurry. Me and my husband had always wanted to try this restaurant. I made a reservation and was really looking forward to our breakfast. The website stated that they bring fresh pumpkin muffins to your table. I was really excited about this. We went on a Friday morning and checked in. The host (an older gentleman) reminded me of someone that worked at a funeral home as he was not energetic or smile with a greeting. We were seated and sat there for quite a while. The room they put us in was a little darker than I like. When the waitress finally came to our table, which felt like forever we ordered our drinks and food at the same time asking for our condiments as well when ordering. She brought the muffins out and there were two little bite size muffins on a plate with two balls of butter (very disappointing). The butter was almost bigger than the muffins. I ordered the Shaker breakfast, and my husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. We each ordered a sweet tea to drink. The food came out with no drinks or condiments in which we had asked for. We had to remind her of our drinks, condiments etc. and my husband asked for some more water. The food overall was really good. However, our waitress never came back to check on us or to see if we needed anything. The restaurant wasn't busy and the other server in the area was very attentive to her customers offering them more muffins, drinks etc. I even made the comment to my husband that I wished she had been our waitress. Make sure to ask for butter and jam for your biscuit as they were a little dry to eat on its own but like I said our waitress never came back to check on us so I couldn't ask. The water my husband asked for never came until we were completely done with our food at that point, we were ready for the check. The waitress brought a pitcher of water, and we asked for our check. She never once asked how our food was. We decided that based on our service that we will not be visiting this restaurant in the future. The special beef stew was incredible, as was the beet salad and the desserts. I look forward to eating here again and trying more menu items. I only take one star off because of the service. Our waitress was very nice, but a little scattered. We ordered an appetizer, but she brought the entrees out first, then seemed unhappy when we said we no longer wanted the appetizer since it still hadn't come out when we were almost done with our meals. Also we said we wanted dessert and she responded "I'll go get the check" and started to walk away. Our lunch yesterday was delicious! I've eaten at the Trustee's Table many times over the years and the food we had yesterday was the best meal I've had there in a long time. While you don't get the full relish tray at lunch you do get a nice plate of court muffins and Cole slaw to share as a little amuse-bouche. The corn muffins were delicate and delicious. For the meal I ordered the fried chicken breast over garlic mashed potatoes with green beans and a garlic cream sauce. The presentation was lovely and the chicken breast was still crunchy even covered in the sauce. The flavors were a nice combination. It was a tinge on the salty side from the sauce but it played well with what seemed to be hand mashed potatoes. The green beans were cooked low and slow with ham, just the way you would want southern green beans to be. Others at the table got the burger and fries. The fries looked hand cut and not a crumb was left on the plate. Another friend ordered the heirloom tomato dish with balsamic and it was gorgeous with beautiful local heirloom tomatoes. The price point at lunch is good and the food was delicious. While you don't have the candles you have in the evening you do have quick service (assuming you come at your reserved seating time.) Taking a Christmas trip, the family decided to try Shaker Village. The village tour ended just in time for our 1PM lunch reservation. The 3 course meal looked was the best. It started with all 4 of us having the Hopping John's soup. It was tasty, with a lunch portion that was a little small (probably right for lunch). My wife and daughter had the salmon, and enjoyed it (my wife couldn't finish hers). I had the ham steak that was delicious. My grandson had the beef stew that was top choice. The service was timely. They said the oatmeal pie tasted like Pecan pie. My daughter and I tried it. It was like pecan pie, with less sugar/filling. My grandson loved the chocolate mousse. The feel of the restaurant kept the Shaker Village image in mind, and topped off our visit. read more

The Trustees' Table is a local (very local as much of the food is sourced directly from their own farm) restaurant located in Shaker Village. We booked a dinner reservation during a recent visit to Harrodsburg and it was an excellent experience. The restaurant strongly recommends making a reservation due to its popularity with locals. They offer seating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week, and a breakfast buffet on the weekends. Dinner was popular the weekend we visited, so the only reservation available for our group size was 830pm. We arrived and were seated right away. Our server was kind and knowledgeable; when asked about specific ingredients in dishes she took the time to double check with the chef, ensuring we were not inadvertently poisoned due to allergies and dietary needs. There are a variety of appetizers, salads, two soups (tomato celery and soup of the day), entrees, sides, and desserts. After ordering we were treated to complimentary country bread with butter and a dish of quick-pickled veggies (okra, carrots, baby corn, radishes, and onions). The bread was not vegan, but the veggies were so I was able to enjoy. The okra was a bit tough and woody but the other veggies were perfect, delicately flavored with a good crunch. The current seasonal menu has one vegan entrée - curried lentils with smashed sweet potato, and it is truly lovely. The lentils were a bit salty but as the sweet potato was not, as long as each bite contains some of each the overall dish is executed beautifully. Pricing is what one would expect for a farm to table restaurant located within a tourist attraction - not unreasonable but not necessarily inexpensive (my lentil dish was $18). I do wish there were more vegan options, including a vegan dessert choice. Overall though the atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is lovely, the food is worth it - absolutely worth a visit. read more

Absolutely disgraceful, the buffet was the only option they would offer, food was mediocre at best, some fried chicken and green beans, mashed potatoes that taste like it came out of a box. Waitress wasn't friendly. To beat it all, our 18 month old that took approximately 3 bites of food from our plates was charged for a buffet herself. I asked the waitress if this was right and she replied "anyone who eats food from the buffet is charged" she is literally 18 months old, I've never heard of anyone charging a buffet for a child under 2. All in all we paid $85 for an incredibly mediocre buffet, had rude service and got to experience something new, (being charged a buffet for 3 bites from an 18 month old) Needless to say we will never be back. RESERVATION SUGGESTED I made a reservation at The Trustees' Table well in advance of our visit to Pleasant Hill. From what I could tell, there weren't any other eating options on-site except for snacks and grab-n-go items at the post-office store, so I was glad we'd made a reservation. There are picnic tables on-site and you can bring your own food, so I would do that another time. HISTORIC BUILDING Overall, it was nice to eat in a historic Shaker building/dining room. The food was decent. The waitress was friendly and doing her best on a busy day, but the wait time for food was a little slow. HOSTESS NOT EXACTLY WELCOMING The woman with short curly hair on the hostess podium was miserable, and generally added a sour note to our experience. If the restaurant is reading this, I would remove that employee from your podium as she is not a good candidate for the hospitality industry! We approached the hostess podium a little earlier than our reservation time due to timing and proximity to the restaurant, hoping we could be seated. The hostess barely said a word, didn't smile, grabbed 2 menus and marched us to our table. After the two of us were seated at a table for four, I realized there was a floor vent pumping cold air, which was uncomfortable, so I asked the waitress if we could move to a table for two across the room. The waitress went to ask the hostess whom I saw shake her head in disbelief that we'd asked to move. The waitress came back and did say yes, we could move. It really made more sense for the restaurant as we were now only occupying a table for two, not four! As far as the food, we enjoyed quiche with salad and soup with country ham biscuits. read more

Great experience! I love Shakertown in general and definitely recommend visiting, and if you do you must eat here! Both dinner and breakfast are always excellent. High quality, seasonal ingredients make for a great meal. I find the price point to be incredibly reasonable as well. Love the cozy atmosphere, and the bread and pickled vegetables they serve at the start of the meal are delicious. We have eaten lunch here in the past but this was our first dinner. We ate here on the first Tuesday that the Trustees' Table was open for dinner for the 2026 season. We ate early, at 5 pm when they opened, and there were no other guests while we were there. (We were told that business would pick up later.) The waitress brought Pickled Garden Vegetables & Fresh Baked Yeast Rolls to our table at the start of our meal. The pickled vegetables were quite crunchy and a good starter. We shared the Kentucky Sampler as an appetizer, which included Smoked Poblano Pimento Cheese, Bacon Jam, Country Ham sliced as thin as a good prosciutto and tasted similar, as well as mini-buttermilk biscuits, crackers, candied pecans, apricot preserves, and Sliced Kenny's Cheese. This was more than two people could eat if they were going to have dinner, so most was packed up, along with our Fried Chicken and Biscuits leftovers and we had a second dinner the next day. (We had broccolini and greens for vegetables. Both were great! I asked for vinegar for the greens even before they arrived at the table, something my Daddy taught me to do. ) We shared the Shaker Lemon pie for dessert and liked it so much we came home and tried to recreate the recipe, which they give away in their gift shop. They do sell wine, beer and spirits. The menus says "Most Pleasant Hill Shakers consumed alcoholic beverages on a daily basis. The community fully utilized its agricultural bounty each fall, turning excess apples into hard cider and corn into whiskey. For a brief period in the 1840s, the Shakers severely limited their consumption of alcohol, as well as other "stimulants" like coffee and tea, but most favored moderation rather than complete temperance. By the 1870s, grapes grew near the Centre Family Dwelling, producing wine for home consumption and sale." Went to the Trustees Table tonight for dinner. The service was good, food was fresh (very fresh summer sweet corn and okra) and well prepared, and interesting surroundings being part of Shaker Village. I thought the chairs were extremely uncomfortable, and would have liked a few more choices on the menu. Our party had the salmon, catfish, and was grateful that they agreed to make my son a burger even though it was not on the dinner menu. I would have ordered an appetizer if there had been other options. Wish the bread was bigger and/or more plentiful than 1-2 bites. Also would have appreciated other side options. I get why they do it for simplicity serving everyone the same 2 sides, though an available substitution would have been appreciated. I came here as a child 40+ years ago, and then it was magical. Was hoping to recreate some nostalgia, but was disappointed. My family said it was good, though not impressed. read more

We decided to eat while staying at Shaker Village. HUGE mistake. While they tried to make an effort as vegetarians, the pasta was nearly mush and overcooked. The worst part was that both of us became VERY sick overnight, losing all of our meal (without being too graphic). It has been a long time since we have eaten here. We have done two walks this fall as part of their guided tours, one was the spirit walk on Halloween and the second was civil war close to Veterans Day! They reminded us that we had not eaten here in a long while! The walks were socially distanced and so is the restaurant! We were the only ones here in the room that we were sat in. We started with lobster bisque, even though a lot of lobster taste not a lot of meat, very creamy and piping hot! The soup beans were nice and tender full of smoked ham flavor, tender corn bread. Not like most places where the soup was thick, the broth was like stock! Very very good! An added bonus was slaw and corn muffins that were not order but came for the table. The slaw was very fresh and crisp, creamy (light not overly creamy) but a nice vinegar tang was present as well! We ordered "The Manhattan" an open faced roast beef on top of toast mashed potatoes, and brown gravy! The beef was tender and imparted a nice flavor with the gravy. The mashed potatoes are made rustic and have small chunks of potato. The second plate was "Meatloaf" that came with the same mashed potatoes and southern style green beans and the extra bonus was the warm tomato bacon jam that has sweet red pepper in it for a little ketchup style sweetness! Slightly chunky on the bacon jam, but added as a garnish not cooked on top of the meat loaf! All in all a great meal and found and gonna be back more often! First day of new menu! Shaker village and the Trustees Dining room are places I love to bring out of town guests. But I am more thinking twice about doing that. I normally brag about the coleslaw at the dining room. But on this visit it was like cabbage in straight vinegar. Yuck!!! Completely inedible. Our waitress didn't seem to care and didn't offer to make it right either. She then knocked over a glass of water on our table, where it ran off the edge right into the top of my purse which was sitting in the chair next to me. Again, she barely took notice of the fact that I was hastily drying off my expensive camera. She just walked away and ignored what she had done. The other reason I will reconsider taking guests to Shaker Village is the condition of the buildings there. Used to be a beautiful place to visit. Today, the buildings are in such sad state of repair that it is embarrassing. Peeling paint, loose and missing roof tiles, loose gutters, are just a few of the issues. Bring back the historic interpreters who were dressed in period dress. They added something to the experience that you can not get with a printed sign in the museum exhibits. The only reason this review is still getting 3 stars is that in spite of peeling paint the place still has that feeling of serene peacefulness they haven't managed to destroy yet. read more

Superb cuisine and service. A truly under-recognized gem, out of the way in rural Kentucky, a short six mile drive from Harrodsburg and near Lexington. I went for dinner on a slow Tuesday evening, while staying overnight at "The Inn" and spending the day roaming the historic buildings at Shaker Village. Although I had heard glowing recommendations, I was hesitant because of the EXTREMELY limited dinner menu as well the prices. Those vary "seasonally" and since I was there in September, I presume that was still their summer "season." Four of their five entree offerings were an absolute no-go for me as I do not like seafood and fried chicken, and could not figure out exactly what their veggie thing was all about. All that was left was a very expensive rib eye ($42). That cut in my experience has a lot of fat and gristle around its perimeter. I decided to pull the trigger anyway. Started out with the tomato celery soup. Outstanding. Dinner roll: perfection. The 12 oz. rib eye itself was cooked perfectly and, as expected, came with the dreaded border of fat and tendon which I left on the plate. The accompanying garden tomato gratin was very good. Then they bring out the dessert tray. No description past the cherry cheesecake was necessary. It is made in house and was perfect. Just the right texture and moisture. Service from Melinda was wonderful. Would I go back? Certainly for breakfast and lunch, which have the conventional offerings and reasonable prices. Dinner would depend on the entree offerings which, again, only change "seasonally." As for the star rating, I am torn. I had to knock off for the extremely limited dinner menu selection, especially given the prices. Should have been more extensive. Otherwise would have given it 4.5 if that was allowed. read more

Wish there were half stars. I would give 4.5. I docked half a star because we made a reservation on a hot summer day and we had to sit outside in a swarm of flies. Guys, I am not exaggerating. The fly situation made me miserable. Be that as it may, they cannot 100% control the flies. Maybe some citronella. My husband and I never ate here before. I was really excited to try the food. The bread was to die for. It had cheese on it and in it. We also received a tray with pickled vegetables and fresh butter. We ordered the tomato and burrata, as well as the oysters for starters. We were anxious to try everything. I wish I had just ordered those and stayed. I was happy and full. We did what we do though... We ordered our entrees. My husband got a steak and I got a crawfish pasta. The pasta was flavorful. The steak, although very fatty, was good quality. The Trustee's Table, also called The Inn by a staff member is the restaurant on the grounds of the historic Shakers Village. I was excited to try some food from this period. I asked Stephanie, our waitress, which dishes were from that era and she said none of them were any longer. That is sad, obviously disappointed she did say their lemon pie was a Shaker recipe. She said it contains actual lemon rind and said it was not her favorite, but she doesn't generally like lemon pies. Stephanie was friendly, attentive and served us promptly. She kept our liquids filled and it was great having her guidance on the menu. We had Ribeye with a strawberry side salad and Apple salad with chicken. For desert we ordered the Lemon Pie and a Buttermilk Pie. You would think the lemon pie would be bitter with rind in it, but it was pretty good. The rind gave it texture and a strong, but balanced lemon flavor. The buttermilk pie was REALLY delicious. We enjoyed the desserts. Overall, it was a nice dinner, but nothing special I couldn't get somewhere else. To me, such a unique and historic place should have a couple of entrees and sides from the time period. The novelty of dining on this property is to taste food different than what you could get at any other restaurant. It's really surprising because they sell several recipe cookbooks in their gift shops and one had recipes FROM the Elderess of the Shakers. read more

I'll start by saying Shaker Village is a neat day trip while in Kentucky! They maintain their property in a beautiful manner. This is our second trip to the Trustees' Table and we were just as pleased this time as the first. If you want country cooking then look no further. Now keep in mind, this is not a white tablecloth place. You will be seated on nice sturdy chairs and a wooden table. Our server, Glenna, was well versed on the menu and daily selections plus gave her advice of what was very popular at the moment. She was kind, friendly, and very efficient. We had the soup of the day (vegetable with sausage), country fried chicken with country style green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, and roasted garlic cream sauce. Everything was excellent, the soup was interesting and had a nice flavor and the fried chicken was perfectly prepared. The roasted garlic cream is what made this superb! Cole slaw and mini corn muffins were brought to the table as complimentary items. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor of the cole slaw only because I prefer mine a little sweeter, but it didn't stop me from eating 2 portions. For dessert, we tried their signature lemon pie, plus a warm fruit cake/cobbler served A La Mode in a cute miniature iron skillet. These were equally fantastic. We ate supper here several years ago and finally got the chance to return this weekend. We almost didn't eat here because of the negative reviews. I'm glad we came anyway! Service was friendly and food was great! The menu changes with the seasons, based on what they can harvest locally. I had beef briscuit, skillet potatoes, and asparagus. It was all delicious! It was so much food, I couldn't eat it all. 3 thick strips of briscuit, 6 asparagus spears, and a huge portion of potatoes. Plus fresh yeast rolls, fried pimento cheese balls, and pickled veggies. The briscuit was so tender, I didn't need a knife. My husband had the Hot Brown. He loved it but couldn't finish his either. After dinner, we sat outside by the fire pit and listened to live music. It was a perfect evening! We stayed in one of the guest rooms for the night. The bed was very comfortable. The only thing we didnt like was the shower ceiling was a bit low. This place is a hidden treasure! The food comes from local farms including their own. The was knowledgeable of her menu and very friendly. They place live music and had a nice selection of music. It wasn't so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation but loud enough to be able to hear it well. The bread was very soft, warm and flavorful. I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes which was perfectly cooked and flavored. The chicken came highly recommended so that was my entree. It had just the right crisp and sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. It almost tasted as though it had a marmalade in it which was very interesting. My husband got the burger and raves over the flavor and juiciness. Finally, they bring out a tray full of desserts. I chose the Lemon pie and Hubs chose the chocolate s'mores pie. The Lemon pie is a whole fruit pie and the oldest recipe from the Village and a must. This is a very nice venue, with seriously old buildings, spotless interiors, friendly staff and attractive views from your table onto the grounds. Their lunch buffet was very good; the food was tasty and attractive; the beverages were excellent; the desserts were very good. Is it pricey? Yes...but you're paying for the whole package....which was $53 for the two of us...which I don't find unreasonable at all. Shopping in the lobby and nearby shops was nice. I use Yelp all the time, and don't usually write reviews, but after visiting Shaker Village in Kentucky, I happened to see the two reviews for the restaurant, and felt that an Injustice had been done. I'm from the San Diego area, just arrived in KY, so maybe I'm out of step with the pricing, but the quality of the food was unimpeachable. My wife and I grow our own organic vegetables, so after touring the facility and talking with the folks who plant, tend, and harvest the on-site produce, we were both looking forward to trying the restaurant's fare. We were not disappointed. I had the smoked pulled pork sandwich, and my wife had a corn-breaded fried catfish sandwich. Both were delicious! They came with a generous portion of steak fries, more than enough for lunch. But we didn't stop there---just had to try some dessert. She had the salted caramel chocolate bourbon cake, and I tried the famous Shaker lemon pie. Again, no disappointment. Obviously freshly made, beautifully presented and outstanding! Of course, it goes without saying that the service was excellent. Just as in the other parts of the village, everybody we met was friendly, competent, knowledgeable​, and thoroughly professional. Our dining experience at The Trustees' Table capped off our visit to the Shaker Village, and will be a fond memory when we look back on this trip. Are you kidding me? This is that so-called 'legendary' shaker town food? Go ahead, pinch me, tell me I'm dreaming... My family and I get here knowing that 25 years ago you got a substantial amount of food in anything you order - and it was GOOD! We get the exact opposite. I get soup, and it's about the quality of something from Frisches Big Boy. Just pure mediocrity. Then we get a pathetic portion of 'fresh' vegetables and grocery store bread that is apparently complimentary... I take that back, grocery store bread is gourmet compared to this. I get the $21 chicken expecting a huge portion... and that's where I've had it. Did I get the runt of the chicken coop? Did I actually get a mouse? $21 for chicken that is the quality of KFC'S grilled chicken and is smaller than a lunch portion from O'Charley's. That's truly pitiful, it's sad. It could enter one of those competitions for tiny meals for rodents. Oh, I sound mad, I know, and that's because I'm LIVID... I'm sitting at the table writing this review RIGHT NOW. The bill was $101! What a joke. It'd be a true pleasure to 'shake' this catastrophe off the face of this earth. A true tourist TRAP! read more
