Although I have eaten here several times, I recently had the pleasure of attending a graduation celebration here for my friend and from the moment we walked in, it felt like being welcomed into someone's home. The indoor space struck the perfect balance, warm, intimate, and private, but never stuffy or overly formal. You could relax and actually enjoy the people around you. The food was a highlight! beautifully presented, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. And the staff was genuinely attentive without ever hovering. Everything flowed effortlessly from start to finish, which let all of us simply be present for the moment that mattered. What stood out most was how personal it all felt. This wasn't a place going through the motions, you could feel the thought behind every detail, from the setup to the warm hospitality. I really like this restaurant. They know how to cook and the dishes come from all over...American, Indonesian, Thai, Mediterranean, North African. Most of the items on their brunch menu are standouts. On this occasion, I had the Benedicts de la Mer. One English muffin, cut into quarters, had smoked salmon, a poached egg, and hollandaise while the other English had a crab cake in place of the salmon. Fried potatoes with a bunch of garlic on the side. I tried a bit of the Kibris (Cypriot style asparagus and egg scramble, grilled mint-rubbed halloumi cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, and kalamata olives) and that was really tasty too. It might be a bit of a drive from anywhere but Franklin but I think it's worth it. The Tulip & The Rose is an iconic restaurant nestled deep in the Catskill mountains with a rich cultural and religious identity that forms the foundation of this truly one of a kind place. My friend and I were very fortunate to be able to visit the Catskill mountains a few weeks ago with supreme foliage hikes and drives, and the cherry on top of that visit was a meal at this restaurant. When you first walk in, the place is super inviting. High ceilings, full of natural light, dotted with traditional tiles and turkish lanterns. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated. We went during brunch and ended up ordering their spinach empanadas, the pumpkin spice pancakes and the korean fried chicken sandwich. Everything was prepared to perfection. The empanadas were crispy and flaky with gooey filling inside, the cilanto cream sauce was fresh and delicious. The chicken on the fried sandwich was crispy and moist and fried to perfection, the taste was amazing. The pumpkin spice pancakes were my absolute favorite, they came with a spice swirl topped with bananas and walnuts - an ode to fall. We ended our meal with a turkish coffee - it was delicious and came with a small piece of turkish delight. Speaking to the locals in the area there, I understood that the menu is seasonal and changes constantly, which truly represents the relationship with the land. The sufi brothers running this restaurant represent the spiritual values they live by and that energy directly translates in to the space and the food here. Imagine coming from NYC where you have the best food in your reach and coming here and pleasantly surprised. This was such a treat. We are foodies and came for some off the grid camping but when I checked the local food scene and found out about this gem only 15 minutes away..I had to come to check it out. We came for dinner and they had a special menu for valentines weekend. Superb. We had the quail hoisin and crab cakes as starters, Morracan lamb chops for main and desert we shared a pistachio baklava with a rose saffron ice cream! Yes homemade rose saffron ice cream AMAZING. The manager came over and checked in on us. It was so fantastic we came for brunch the next morning. We had the peach cobbler pancakes, the benidict de la mar and steak and eggs. The did not have crab cakes so they gave me a beef chorizo as a substitute . ...you could tell this was a home made chorizo with the most fantastic flavors, mint, cumin, a little spice so much flavor. The Turkish coffee was great. This reminds me of just an experience of relaxing, eating, talking with loved ones. I thank them for bringing this culinary vibrancy to small town America. We will be coming back this summer not just for camping, but to enjoy this wonderful culinary experience. read more

My partner is half Korean and I'm half Turkish so we got the Korean sandwich and the Turkish burger. We were absolutely blown away! The flavors of the Turkish burger were absolutely spot on (we just went on a trip there last summer, so this definitely took us back!), but my favorite was the Korean sandwich. I cook with gochujan and kimchi pretty often, but this was unlike anything I'm ever had or made. An incredibly creative blend of sweet and spicy! I was so impressed. And they make their own kimchi! (Don't tell my in-laws, but it was honestly better kimchi then theirs.) We started our meal with the duck wings which really had the perfect crispiness and whatever seasoning they put was heavenly. The fish tacos were tender and crunchy, and that crema was seasoned with I believe Turkish seasoning? Whatever it was, it was perfect. Such an amazing spot, with the most creative flavors, homemade with local ingredients. If Anthony Bourdain was still around to do Parts Unknown, Tulip and the Rose would be a headliner for sure. Tulip and the Rose catered and hosted our winter wedding reception of 50 people. I worked closely with Hasan and Devin to develop our custom menu which included multiple pre-wedding tastings. Devin's charcuterie boards were a showstopper. We chose honey and za'atar duck and baked ziti as mains. Changed the salad last minute because of romaine crisis to mixed greens with mustard dressing. Shrimp on grit cakes, spring rolls, charcuterie boards, babaganush and pita chosen as cocktail apps. We were able to select non-alcoholic beverages for the day and settled on calamansi, horchata, thai iced tea, hot mulled cider and Saratoga water. Hasan's wife, Nour made a delicious 3 tier cake with the flavors of my choice using all natural ingredients and flavors. We chose white cake with raspberry filling and lemon buttercream frosting. The space was cozy and my guests were able to socialize easily. The speed between courses was perfectly timed. The managers and decorator helped me with coordinating the music and decor. We got many compliments of the food, decor, and attentiveness of the staff. Several people thought the space looked like a downtown NYC restaurant! It was a joy to work with everyone. In addition, their tapas nights are ultra creative and make me wish I lived closer to come more often. The gyros on their regular menu are mouthwatering. We live in Michigan but have a vacation house in Franklin NY my hometown. When we are here it is always a joy to eat at the Tulip and Rose Cafe. It is one of our favorite restaurants. This time breakfast there was one of the highlights of our visit. It was one of the best breakfasts I ever had, chosen from a list of unusual and appealing offerings. Called "Benedict de la Mer" on the menu, it consisted of two delicious items, plus very good potatoes. One item was smoked salmon on an English muffin covered with hollandaise sauce while the other was the same sauce on a crab cake. I wish we were here more often to enjoy this great restaurant. read more

Experience: Ahh, Saturday morning brunch... I've had the Tulip & The Rose Cafe bookmarked for over a year now. This place did not disappoint! It is so unique. The wall tiles, jars, cloths, and items on display were all so colorful and unique. This restaurant has foods from Turkish, Malaysian, Indian, and Mediterranean backgrounds. I ordered chicken Makhni. This was a garlic and cumin pan-seared chicken in creamy tomato sauce dish and it came with Indian flatbread. The flatbread was very flaky and buttery, like a croissant. My friend ordered the Javanese breakfast. This consisted of a spicy noodle that had a little bit of sour flavor from the lime juice. It that came with green peas, tomatoes, sausages and an egg. We also each got Vietnamese coffee here. This was my first time watching the coffee drip. What a fun style of making coffee! The bottom had condensed milk, so if you do not like sweetened coffee, make sure to note that before ordering this! This place is very open and the servers are all very friendly. My only complaint would be that we were sat at one of the tables near the front door so it got pretty cold whenever someone went in or out. Recommend it?: Yes! read more

Super charming restaurant with excellent food and service. My husband and I went for dinner recently when they were featuring an Indian-inspired menu. Service was very kind and efficient and the food was excellent. The space is cool with interesting tile work, nice lighting and windows that look out onto the street. Only drawback is no alcohol and no BYOB, but props to the owners for sticking to their customs and beliefs. Looking forward to returning for breakfast or lunch sometime. read more

Woot! Franklin! That is what I am talking about! (enunciate emphatically; emphasis on IS) For those of you that do not know, Franklin is a smaller town, a village actually. Main Street, the old Catskill Turnpike with all sorts of history that it pretty much keeps to itself, is the strand from which the pearls of houses and commerce dangle. For about five blocks Center Street runs parallel to Main, between the primary thoroughfare and the creek. On the blocks that Center and Main and the small streets connecting them form are a collection of some of the prettiest post-colonial architecture, most tended and pretty a few perhaps as suggestions of what once was and what could be again some day. For what a down payment on a place in the Oakland hills would deliver you could have a five-room circa 1850 mansion with a wrap-around porch and an acre lot and a barn that legitimately once was a carriage house. Some of the homes still have the Catskill Delta mudstone step at the curb so the ladies wouldn't have to stretch to step into their horse-drawn transportation. For the years I've been coming there's been but one thing missing. A sit-down place to get a tasty bite. The Franklin Diner closed about the time my brother arrived a little over a nephew ago and the Bee Hive that tried to take its place failed apparently because it was a little too citified and that definitely is not what Franklin is talking about so that didn't last too long. Enter Tulip and Rose, stage left. So interesting, the concept and so delightful that it looks like it has traction. I visited twice this past week, once for supper and a couple of days later for breakfast with the successors to the throne. Each time the cozy space was stuffed with locals and a few that seemed to have come further. I wasn't able to sample the Turkish fare; supper was on Indian night. And supper, my friends, was delicious. Breakfast the day after Christmas was equally good, though the vibe was a morning vibe and we sat at the counter which is more local breakfasty for me and there were fellows eating before they went to work and others who definitely lived nearby and the prices were so reasonable and the selection broad but not in a crazy way I still had a little trouble choosing. You have to come here! Patronize this establishment, assure its success. Good food, varied food, something a little different but still able to attract and keep the local flavor which it should because what good is a resto that appeals only to people that come from the metro area so far away? 4 years ago this place was great. Now, not so much. The service was terribly slow, and the table they sat us at had food all over the top of it. They got angry when we asked for it to be wiped down. We were promptly forgotten about after that. I had to get up and ask for water after 30 minutes. When the food came it was terrible. None of it was eaten. It was all cold and extremely greasy. I even sent the place a private message afterwards to let them know how disappointing it all was. Disappointing and expensive. I was ignored there too. Bottom line, I'm not sure why people still go here. I never will again. I'll note that there were a couple of groups of people who seemed to get great service that day, but they looked to have been related to the staff. read more

Nice surprise! Can here because Bea's across the street was closed at the time, and so happy we did. Had the satay wrap which was yummy and flavorful. My husband had the spicy tomato soup and he loved it. The server was so friendly and very attentive. Restaurant is decorated with Beautiful colorful tile. We have been meaning to go here for sooo many months but just weren't able to fit it in our schedule, especially as it's about an hour away. Finally made it there Saturday night. I believe they have separate menus set up for different weekends cause this one stated "chef atil's night" and had about 7-8 options on the menu including soups and entrees. We had assumed that they may serve everything halal as they are a Muslim owned restaurant. However, you have to let them know in advance. We got lucky they had halal goat on the menu, however their chicken and beef was not halal. However, they do have a range of vegetarian options. We ordered a sea food soup, eggplant dish and goat. The goat did not disappoint very tender an delicious. Egg plant dish had such delicious flavors! The seafood soup was a bit too fishy for my liking (but great none the less!) I also got Vietnamese coffee-yum but heads up it's a bit sweet. There also was variety of desserts we decided to skip this time-carrot cate, pecan pie, some sort of cheesecake etc. I would definitely come back and would recommend, would probably come back for lunch for a more more variety of options! read more

If you are in Oneonta and thinking of eating, get over to Franklin right now and eat here if they are open. I have been eating here for years. I have eaten here for brunch, dinner and anything in between. This is the only really sophisticated place in the Oneonta area. The food is always fresh and the morning Benedict's are delicious. There is no other place close to Oneonta to even consider having brunch except Otesaga which is in Cooperstown. The only downside is Franklin is a dry town, so no booze. read more
