I never want to leave negative reviews but I came here after reading reviews, so hoping to help others-- We came in to pick up dinner after being at AllStar Village. The town of Oneonta lacks restaurants that are open past 5pm or are even open Sunday-Thurs. The location is good and the menu looks like it should be a yummy gem. We ordered a pizza and a salad. Had lunch there during the Little League Tournament at the All Star Village at Oneonta, Ny. I got the Meat Ball Sandwich that comes with a Pasta Salad. Sandwich was good could have used a little more Sauce on it. Pasta salad was nothing to speak of hardly any flavor. My wife had the Soup and Sandwich combo, Which was half of the Shepard Ave sandwich which was made with Turkey, Swiss, lettuce and tomato. Also a choice of Soup, we chose the Chicken Barley. Sandwich was very good but the soup was very bland. All sandwiches seem to be on Sourdough Bread which i liked very much. Service was good with a lunch crowd that was there many baseball families in between games. it is about 5-7 minute from the ball field so0 it makes for a nice quick stop and then back to the ball parks. Stopped in for lunch after a meeting with a coworker, and I was pleasantly surprised by this gem of a counter service restaurant. The ample seating made for a comfortable dining experience. I decided to try the Cuban sandwich and my coworker, the eggplant special. The Cuban sandwich was flavorful, with perfectly cooked pork that melted in my mouth. My coworker was impressed with the eggplant special as well. Both dishes were generously portioned and came with a delicious side of macaroni salad. Which was well-seasoned and could easily stand alone as a meal, especially with the addition of some deli meat. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the food and the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. I will definitely be adding this place to my list of go-to spots whenever I'm in the area. read more

Wow this place is awesome! Traveling through and stopped for early dinner. Lots of local foot traffic for a midweek dinner set my sights high and I was not disappointed. Even after a mix up on our eat in order, I still can't give less than 5 stars! The pizza is so delicious! Wonderful crust and you can tell fresh ingredients. The ravioli sandwich was just as delicious and the pasta salad side was very tasteful. Plenty of indoor seating and super generous portions! Love this place one of the best things to order are the rotating soups. Everything here is made from scratch and is very good including the homemade desserts. Their meatball sub is a favorite when they have it and my mom really enjoys any of their salads. I love eggplant so we decided to try this place for lunch today. They have a variety of salads, sandwiches, beverages and desserts. We had a couple sandwiches with eggplant in it and they came with penne pasta as a side. These sandwiches were huge, for lunch we can only have half of it and they tasted very good. I love that it was pulled with fresh veges and the eggplant layered within was delicious. The Italian bread they use was fresh and soft. It was messy to eat but totally worth the big bites. Penne pasta was good too. They are other sandwiches too without the eggplant sand I bet they are as good as the ones we got. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We will return.... read more

We were taking a break from baseball and stopped by for a quick lunch. We ordered a pizza and salad. The food took about 15 minutes to come out. The pizza had sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms on it and was great. The best part of the whole pizza was the crust! It had a crisp deep edge on it and was great! What's in a name? In the case of the Undercover Eggplant, it's what first caught my attention. Turns out, this is an Oneonta eatery with a very solid reputation for its sandwiches and fresh bread. It's Chestnut Street location is hard to miss since it's exterior is painted the color purple of eggplants. The same color scheme continues indoors with purple walls and lime green detailing. The interior is cheerful and clean. The refrigerator is well stocked with a good selection of beverages. On the wall next to the cash register you'll find the list of daily specials. According to the menu, all sandwiches cost more than $13, but the sandwiches are large and in this pandemic world everything costs a bit more since supplies are hard to come by. In my case, the turkey sandwich "City of the Hills," was big enough to satisfy two people. It was a take out order though there were plenty of people dining in. The very helpful staff suggested boxing each half separately and adding yummy pasta salad side dishes to each package. The total came out to just over $18 which was a very reasonable lunch for two. If I weren't dieting, I would love to try one of the many "hot battered eggplant" sandwiches that the eatery has become so well known for. Perhaps on my next visit. I finally made the choice to give it a try for lunch. I was not sure what to expect but was hoping they had a good salad menu. I was not disappointed. They had a great selection. I ordered the Little Freddie's salad. You can see it in the attached picture. It was a good sized salad with lots of toppings. Chicken, salami, bleu cheese, mozzarella, tomato, cucumber, onion and artichoke hearts over mixed greens. If you want to be full after a salad here you go. My belly is happy!! I heart eggplants so this spot was perfect, but they have more then just sandwiches and salads! The portions are huge and I love the fact that the sides are a pasta salad instead of the standard fries/chips. I could eat here every week if I can. I came here in college so much, introduced it to all of my friends and family and so glad this place is still as amazing as a hung over college student remembers. Outrageous food all around. I've had no less that 25 sandwiches, both regular menu and specialty/seasonal, salads, and pizza. Everything is delicious and freshly made. The pasta salad is a perfect complement to all of the their sandwiches and is seasoned to perfect with not too much dressing. I have NEVER left a negative review, in fact I had to download this app, JUST to write this review. And, I am certainly someone who has frequented many establishments. Our first encounter was ordering when we were told (at a sandwich place) that they were unable to make anything other than what was on the menu. (We have a 4 year old, I asked if they could just throw some turkey on two slices of bread) nope! Can't do that, we were told everything is pre portioned (is this subway??). We said ok whatever. That's fine, ordered our food to dine in. AFTER we ordered and sat down, the staff came over to tell us we couldn't NOT dine at the establishment and would have to take our food to go, because they were closing. We got there at 6:30, hours of operation are until 7pm. So, instead of a sit down meal, we had to eat in our car. And, the WORSE part, the sandwiches were all awful!! My daughter got the meatball sandwich, the meat looked like dog food. I ordered the turkey special, I might as well have ordered lettuce and tomato on bread. Little to NO turkey on the sandwich (see attached pictures). Also, the pasta salad was disgusting and bland. Literally tasted like cardboard. Not to mention, they are very SERIOUS about their closing time. There were patrons IN the restaurant still finishing their meal, they walked over and KICKED THEM OUT at 7pm, on the dot (I know, because I was sitting in my car with my 'to go' order watching!) Oh, but they offered 'to go' containers for those still eating to finish their food elsewhere. Wow!!! I have never witnessed such terrible service, with awful food, and to pay $15 for a sandwich with little to no meat?? Our bill was over $50 for 3 sandwiches and 3 drinks. If you are looking for something close to All Star Village that serves better food than snack bar food, this is the place. It is a little bit of a turn off when you pull up to it but I decided to give it a try anyway because there aren't many options and there were many cars in the parking lot with New York tags. I went with the idea that if the locals are going here, it's probably good. There are many menu options and they all look good. The prices are reasonable and definitely better than snack bar prices. My error and I had two different salads and they were very fresh. We probably could have just split one they are so big. My only salads is that if you take it to go, it is not mixed and it's difficult to do in the container. You won't go wrong here. read more
