    Poutine. Great curds, greasy gravy.
    Doug C.

I'd hoped for better from this tavern along the riverside in downtown LaCrosse but it wasn't to be. I very occasionally allow myself the heart attack on a plate that Poutine, by its very nature, can be. Here the fries were great, the cheese curds an interesting topping but the whole thing was spoiled by the limp, too salty and greasy gravy. Otherwise, my cheeseburger was very ordinary...running a far second to the Culver's butterburger being served within a few miles. Even the iced tea here tasted watered down, like perhaps they ran out of enough mix? All served by a young lady who didn't seem to understand how much we disliked the poutine and left it on the table long after she cleaned everything else off. There are better choices for dinner in LaCrosse.

Chicken schnitzel, red cabbage, German potato salad, Hofbrau Dunkel

I was so excited for Hofbrau beer in the area! Their flavors are hard to beat, if you enjoy a good German style beer. Plus you get German food to go along side for a perfect combo Don't get discouraged from old reviews (referencing Twisted Moose), this is an entirely different concept. Definitely try their Blood Mary too!

At the Twisted Moose with the ole lady celebrating the 10th Anniversary. This is a nice place was here previously and had a ball. Until about midnight we were in here feeling the vibe and a guy comes in and knocks another out with one punch for no reason, at least no reason I can see. And through all of the liquor and great music realized that no one is part down when they come in and there were several folks in there with back packs......needles to say we got up out of there

From bar view - the garage door window would be sweet in the summer time.

Enjoyed the beer on tap! A lil quite for 3pm but I'm sure it's the time of year. I would love to see this bar at night and during the summer weather. Especially with the garage door windows. Oh and I can't forgot the catfish special was just enough for $7.99, I would come back.

Best fish in town. Great selection of German beers on tap. Enjoyed the live Polka. Definitely recommend.

We weren't sure what to do next and overheard other guests confused about this too -- it felt like we had to follow her without clear instructions. The food was great, and the prices made it easy to try different options. Our server was attentive and kept the coffee coming. We liked it so much we came back the next day just for the food. One small issue -- they only gave us two utensils for three people (both times!), so we had to ask for another. We also had to ask for a coffee spoon both times. Cleanliness was a bit questionable; I noticed a used straw wrapper near the condiment station. When it was time to pay, we waited about 10 minutes at our table before realizing payment is made at the counter. At the counter, it felt awkward being loudly asked how much we wanted to tip. We intended to leave $10 on a $40 bill but ended up tipping $8 instead. Overall, the food and service were solid, but the front-of-house experience and cleanliness could be improved.

My family has been coming here for years! Le Château in La Crosse is owned by a lovely married couple from France. She had to go get another host to come point our name out. After finally being seated. Our waitress took our order right away. We were the only diners and came along 2 other tables. Le Cave was quite busy so it took a while for us to get our two drinks. We finally got our food after a little over an hour. My husband got the lamb wellington but they didn't have lamb and offered beef instead. The sauce was overly salted. So i couldn't try more than the tiny bite i took. I got The lobster risotto. It had mixed reviews but i thought i would try it and have my own judgement. It was also the waitresses favorite. I will say, the herbs in the risotto was over powering and the lobster which was supposed to be poached tasted grilled and was over cooked. Like many other reviews, i couldn't cut it with my butter knife. Perhaps a steak knife would've helped. But it still doesn't help the fact that it was over cooked. The side of butter was unnecessary as everything was too flavorful. And the edamames were just a tad bit too much. Escargot was over cooked. The herb butter was flavorless. We were very disappointed as this was what we were looking forward to the most. Fois gre was ok. $200 dinner and we were not impressed. But it was worth a try.

We also loved our fish tacos and linguini with scallops (I absolutely loved the crushed red pepper that came with it too!). Our food all paired nicely with their extensive cocktail/drinks menu, which included many different breweries and distilleries. This is one of those restaurants you'll remember visiting forever--definitely come visit if you can!
