Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! Our grandsons saw a flier for zip lining but after some research quickly found that there are very few places that will let younger kiddos participate. We have our 6 and 10 year old grandsons with us! Umauma Falls Experience does allow younger ones so we booked a zipline tour with them! Our grandsons absolutely loved it!! It was the highlight of our 6 year old grandson's trip!! My daughter and husband also ziplined while I sat on their patio by the river and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery and sounds!! My daughter said it was one of the most scenic zipline tours that she has participated in and would absolutely do it again if we make it back to the Big Island. Their tour guides were Amazing with our grandsons as the youngest had to go tandem with the tour guide on a couple of the lines because he was too little to get all the way across!! The Umauma Falls Horseback Riding Experience was absolutely incredible! Our tour guide Jamie was the coolest most laid back guy on the island! My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time trotting around the vast and beautiful landscape. Not to mention the secluded waterfall we were able to paddle board and swim on. This place is top notch. We zip lined over waterfalls and beautiful scenery. The people who work there were all friendly but I want to mention Wendy and Isaiah in particular. They were kind, warm, knowledgable and calmed any nerves anyone had. They also told you how to turn upside down if you wanted. That was a fun challenge! There was one gut in our group who was scared of heights and even he had an amazing time. I have rarely felt as safe as Wendy and Isiah made me feel made me feel. If you're planning on ziplining, or have any remote interest in it, do this tour it's so worth it! I had never been ziplining before, and I'm glad this was my first experience. It was a decently long excursion and had 9 separate lines which all offered unique and breathtaking views. Each line felt different, and our guides even taught us how to do tricks like going upside down. You start with tandem lines so you're going with a buddy, plus the guides are great at keeping everyone calm. Our zipline guides Scot, Ian, Maccai (sorry for any misspelling) really kept the party going. Literally, they brought radios with them and danced with us. Honestly they were as entertaining as the ziplining. They even prepared some fresh guava and citrus for us (which tasted AMAZING). We asked them for some local grub recommendations which were all great. Overall amazing experience! As an aside, the property is so beautiful that alone is worth the money- take some time to walk around and stroll through the gardens after your tour. I also bought the video from them at the end, totally worth. Thanks for keeping us safe and showing us a fantastic time guys! read more

This was a fantastic experience, best on the island! We did the zip & dip combo which is pricey (but everything is, in HI). The only complaint there is that the "shuttle van" that takes you up to the swimming pool or the zips is in desperate need of replacement. The pool was beautiful, and the natural waterfall made the experience feel like what you think of when you imagine being in Hawaii. My two sons and I were delighted to find paddle boards readily available, and life jackets for the older boy (funny story, his little brother is a state champ swimmer, but the older one spends more time in books than pools so while the little guy was splashing around, the older one was bobbing around near the shore looking embarrassed. Did I mention the only other people on the swim tour with us were teenage girls... hahahaha!) Anyway, we had a nice, if very basic lunch provided (sandwich, Hawaiian drink, Maui chips) and a great time there. The zips are aMAZING! We've done zip lines a couple times in other locations (Moab, Colorado) but this was phenomenal! Zip 4 is something like 1,700 feet long, like 150 feet in the air, and zips "down" the river! So you see the river, you go over the swimming pool and waterfall, another pool and waterfall, more river, and eventually land on the far, far side. Really amazing. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and humorous. Hogg, Mika (?) and Chris (?) - can't recall the names exactly, but those three we had were great! Final note - I forgot my sandals by the pool and had to call later to see if they'd been found (I was counting on them being lost for good) but sure enough the staff had retrieved them and had them waiting at the front when I went back. Really appreciated that! Overall, price feels high, but that's probably because I remember paying $1.25/gal for gas and not because it is high. (I am NOT old, I am NOT old, I am....OK fine. I'm old). But the experience is fantastic. read more

Well, it was a very rainy, muddy ride. As I am a horse owner and I saw some YouTube videos of the trail online and it wasn't what I expected. Short ride. Horses were well behaved and tour guides Jamie and Elijah made the trip worthwhile. We later found they had moved from old location (featured on video). The waterfall was beautiful and I just love being around horses anywhere I travel. Still enjoyed our time but slightly miserable in the rain/ponchos. The highlight of our stay at the Big Island is with Umauma, moreso the ATV & waterfall swim deluxe experience with Ruby and Helena. These two are an awesome duo that made us feel like family instantly. They took their time not only guiding us on an adventure of a lifetime through mud puddles and terrain, but also shared the Hawaii culture and history so that we can fully appreciate the beauty and heart of the island. The ATV experience for the thrill seekers and the swim in fresh water waterfalls is not to be missed! Ruby and Helena couldn't be more opposite in personality but they compliment one another perfectly. They both have such a love for what they do and take great pride in it. They single handedly made our adventure my favorite part of the trip. We also stayed for the Zipline experience and were not let down by our team of Ian, Dakota & Mika. Umauma may want to add ATV to their name because they offer that now. I took my son and daughter to do their ATV experience and we all had the best time! Our guides were Ruby and Andreas and they were both knowledgeable, fun, and patient. What more can one ask for from a guide. As for the ATV experience... wow! It was a 5.5 mile trail FULL of mud, bumps, hills, and dips. To cap it off was a "mud pit" which was basically a circular loop with a couple of big mud pits guranteed to get you muddy! About halfway through the experience (and it's really a great experience), you'll take a break by a waterfall where you can normally wade in to cool off and clean off but today the current was too strong due to a recent storm. Ruby and Andreas offer to take photos with the waterfall as a gorgeous backdrop. To conclude the experience, Ruby took the group on a short hike up a hill where she showcased some of Hawaii's natural flora and fruits. Afterwards, she explained the meaning of Hawaii's name and how we should all love and respect nature. If I could rate this higher, I would! read more

Ripoff. Their 9 zipline course was booked so we got the 4 zipline course. It was like $180 per person. The first was a joke. I thought it was a warm up or for instruction. Very short one. The next three was pretty long and did go over some waterfalls. They advertise 19 water falls. I think they count all the little dropoff as waterfalls. The whole thing was done like in 30 min. They talk bout it's going to take like 1.5-2 hours and ask you to get there like 45 min early. I think they count the 1.5-2 hour with the initial waiting period. I spent close to $1000 for my family for basically three ziplines that lasted like 1-2 minutes. Hopefully the longer course is of better value. I would skip the 4 line course. read more

This company has absolutely deplorable customer service. We made reservations over a month ahead to make sure that we could go. It was a trip that my kids were so excited about. We chose this one while there were several other companies at the time and now 2 weeks before our trip, they called to say they were consolidating our day and even while they took our money over a month ago and promised a spot, they were canceling our reservation. Now no other company has a spot. They don't give a crap about their customers and were incredibly rude about it. I wouldn't book with these guys unless you don't mind them crapping on your vacation plans without a care in the world. read more

This was such an amazing experience! The drive was a bit far from our resort but the views were amazing! We bought a group deal which costed around $150 per person for a group of about 15. We called ahead to book this in order to ensure that we would be able to have a scheduled time. Upon arrival you will have to sign the waiver form and check your weight in order for them to see if you qualify. Then you are taken to put on your gear with quick and detailed instructions. You are then transported up the mountain with a few more instructions and details. The guide also explained that if you change your mind up there and freak out it will be a long walk down. The instructor was funny and charismatic which made the experience even better. He told us we were allowed to pick any of the fruits on the premises if we would like to try them. There was about 7 or 8 lines for us; I was so excited. Some were long, some short, but they were all fun. You can even hang upside down or do any style you like. It was very safe and all the staff knew what they were doing. We were able to hang upside down on a couple of the lines. Although there was rain while we zip lined, it was fine because it made us go even faster! And I was able to hold my phone to record this experience because they stop you at the end of the line instead of having to stop yourself. I held on to my phone very tight (hold your unstrapped phone at your own risk). The price was definitely worth it and I would do this again in a heartbeat! Now I want to try zip lining anywhere I go but the views probably won't be as beautiful as this place! read more

There just aren't enough stars to describe how incredible The Umauma Experience is. If you get to the Big Island of Hawaii - you don't want to miss this! We had read some great reviews about this place on Yelp and I convinced Mr P that we should make the drive across from Kona where we were staying (this took us about 2.5 hours) so I could try ziplining for the first time. We had our baby with us and sadly no babysitter so he would be keeping her amused while I had the time of my life :) Otherwise, this is definitely experience which you could enjoy with a friend, or three! It was our last full day on the Big Island and I had been really looking forward to ziplining, but hadn't made a reservation because we thought it would be more relaxing to take our time driving across (sometimes long car rides with babies don't always go according to schedule!). This was a BIG mistake. To anyone contemplating this wonderful experience, I definitely recommend making reservations in advance! After our 2.5 hour drive we arrived at the registration desk only to find that they were fully booked for the ENTIRE day. I almost cried. I even tried calling another zipline business in the area, but they too were fully booked. I hadn't expected that they would be so busy on a Friday in June. However, I REALLY wanted to go ziplining, and so I returned to the lady at the registration desk and asked again, could they please please please see if there was any way they could fit me in, any time that day, after explaining why I was so desperate and that this was my last chance before flying out the next day... and she was really lovely and offered to go and check for me. And thankfully they were able to make room for me in their 1pm group!! :) A few notes: you need closed shoes to participate. I wore lightweight 3/4 length cargo pants which was perfect. Remember sunscreen (you can buy this if you forgot) and sunglasses (they also sell sunglass straps so you don't have to worry about losing them if you go upside down). The beautiful Umauma falls are a short 10 minute uphill walk from the registration office, worth a look if you have time. We started by getting kitted out with safety equipment - a very secure harness and a helmet, and I had also opted to rent a Go-Pro which they set up on top of my helmet (definitely recommended!). Some folks took along small cameras and smartphones which they either held in their hands or stored in neck pouches, but I would have been too worried about dropping mine! The Go-Pro takes video or still photos, and you get to take home the memory card at the end. Once we were set up, there was a short bus ride up the mountain to our starting point. It was pretty hot in the bus but the guides were friendly and amused us with their commentary along the way. There are 9 zip lines in total, plus a suspension bridge and water break, and our group of 16 took around 2 hours to make it to the end. The scenery is so incredibly beautiful, that I didn't once regret making that long drive - we were met with views of the ocean, ravines and waterfalls here which isn't possible at some other locations. There is a bit of time waiting between zips while the others in the group had their turn, but I didn't mind one bit because there was so much beautiful scenery around. It was also nice to chat with the other people in the group and watch them zipping! As someone who was really afraid of heights before trying this, let me say that I loved it! There were moments which were a little scary for me (some of the platforms are quite high up) but once I started flying down that zip line I forgot all about it :) By the time I got to zip line number 3 I was brave enough to turn upside down, which the guides will explain for those who want to try it - so much fun! There were some young kids in our group, and no doubt for the kiddies this experience might be a bit more scary, however there is always the option for little ones to go tandem with a friend or a guide (clipped together on the same zip line), plus 4 of the zip lines are double lines so you can go side by side too. That being said, the kids in our group were having a great time! The guides are fantastic, and they do a great job of making everyone feel safe. Bring cash with you because you will want to tip them at the end :) This was such an amazing experience, I would give it 10 stars if I could. It was expensive, yes, but worth every penny. I really hope we return to the Big Island in the future so that the rest of the family can come next time! read more

First things first. I am deathly afraid of heights and have a complete irrational fear of falling to my death via anything you can think of, even in my own car while driving but I knew I needed to do ziplining while in Hawaii. There was no question. So of course we planned nothing ahead of time and tried to book something after Christmas while we were on Oahu. After looking at several of them, we ended up here because we were still able to book something while we were on the Big Island. With it being right before New Years we knew we were chancing it and that many places were already sold out. Honestly, I don't think we got "stuck" here. It was a great time with some great views. We were lucky in that it was quite sunny and clear so it was great to see the ocean out in the distance. However, according to our guides, it's much faster when it's raining. There are 9 lines total. After getting into your harnesses and then a bumpy ride to the top, there is a quick lesson of what to do. Because of the types of harnesses that they use, you can actually go down upside down if you want. The first 4 are tandem - so you can go flying down together, included the longest run, #4. After #4, #5-7 are three in a row but single lines. You don't stop to get the group back together, once you are done, you are getting hooked right into the next line. Then you end with #8 and 9. There is a bridge in between 4 and 5 (don't really remember). The views are amazing. With the last run, which goes right by the visitor center where the next set of folks are waiting their turn, you're done and can't believe that it's already over. I would say it took about an hour and half or so. I guess it depends on how slow folks are. You can bring your own GoPros, or you can rent them there. They tell you to bring nothing with you in case they get damaged or lost. However, since we all use our phones nowadays for everything, they leave it up to you. Several of the folks in our group brought their phones, but there were several moments of "oh holy crap" so it's at your own comfort level I guess. I wish I had thought of this before, but there were several ladies were wearing fannypack like pouches. I could have totally used mine that I wear when I run. It would have been a perfect place to put my phone. read more

We stopped here on a whim driving from Waikoloa on the way to see the volcano via the North route. We had planned to go zip lining the following day at some place closer to our resort but being that the Umauma Experience went over falls, I was all for it. I've zip lined twice before: once in Jamaica: scenic, long, over a shrubbery of rain forest and a river, which was cool and the second time in Mexico which was basically zip lining over sand dunes.. not that exciting nor picturesque and extremely hot. So zip lining over waterfalls I was definitely looking forward to. We arrived with no appointment (not recommended) with our $20 coupon per person from the long "This Week Big Island" magazine that you see in the airport. We were told from the lady at Alamo to take that book for the maps 'cuz it showed "All the stoplights" (amusing). Needless to say, the picture advertisements in side helped us pick this zip line over the other zip lines available. Sean was our main guide along with Mike, Michael and two other guys whose names I can't remember. All very cool guys. We went over seven zips total and three of them over waterfalls. Very scenic and extremely beautiful!! Of all the zip lines in different countries I have done so far, this by far, is the most scenic and breathtaking. The company itself is still young, we were told a little less than 2 years old. You can tell, we were able to still eat fruits and berries from the trees while we hiked passed them to the next zip. In a couple years, I can imagine with all the foot traffic, they won't be so plentiful for the taking. The platforms are a bit shakey and they are in the process of tightening up their zips (There were a couple of times when the Canadian mentioned even his legs were hitting trees). Nevertheless, still the best zip line tour I've been on, the views are outstanding and the falls are definitely one-of-a-kind. read more

We had a fantastic time on the zip lines. Took our 2 boys, 8 and 11. The guides were SUPER nice and great with the kids and with everyone. We ate berries along the way, learned a lot about the plants and the area. The views are spectacular, and the zip lines are great. It was one of the boys favorites of the trip.
