After reading the reviews of Upper Crust's pizza which raves about it being comparable to the pizza in the meteo NY area I decided to give it a try. I can only surmise that those reviewers either never had good pizza or have been gone so long they've forgotten what good pizza tastes like. There was almost no cheese on the pie. The sauce tasted like it came from a jar of basic bargain pasta sauce.. The crust, which was well done by request, was chewy. The Italian sweet sausage topping was seemingly cut from sausage the circumference of my pinky cut in 1/4" chunks; with an average of maybe 2 pieces per slice. Considering the price charged I felt like my pocket had been picked. The only reason the establishment was worth even one star was that the food, I hesitate to call them pizza pies, were ready when I arrived to pick them up. read more

I love pizza! If you love pizza, don't come here! Service is so slow and literally non-existent. We ordered several different pizzas, salads and eggplant parmesan. Pizza from Wal-Mart freezer section is better than this place-Yuck! The salad wasn't much better- basically opened a bag and put it in front of you. How was the eggplant parm? Ya...was there even any eggplant in it? Maybe 2 pieces. The "owner" is a rude and bitter women. She yells at her staff, you can hear her throughout the restaurant! Bad service. All I wanted was a slice to go. It took over 6 minutes to even be acknowledged. Another 10 to hear if the plain slice was ready or not. The "server" was on her cell phone the whole time. Food is good when and if you can get it. I was there for lunch and there was one waitress for the entire restaurant and bar area. Biggest issue was the cook was constantly eating while he was making pizza and threw other people in the back kept coming out front to refill their drinks before going in the back to socialize while the waitress was slammed and needed help. read more

Was craving pasta so we stopped in for lunch. Oh. My. Goodness. The Cajun pasta was SOOO good. Wasn't a huge fan of the chicken but the pasta was amazing and spicy. The garlic bread was amazing. The Caesar salad and sweet tea were really good as well. My fiancé had the chicken parm which he said was delicious and beat out Corleone's by a mile. The portions were just right! Just ate for the first time at this ttiny little restaurant! Gotta say, pizza was good (would try hand-tossed over the thin crust next time) but what was really impressive was the sTaff! Usually great, but my stuffed shells were not even luke warm. I sent them back and they were heated, but they came back without the garlic bread. I also got meat sauce when I asked for marinara sauce. The servers were very attentive, prompt, and apologetic, but they really dropped the ball tonight. Cute place with fast friendly service. Lots of locals. We had a house special pizza w/1 substitution. They got it right. Both of us had house white wines. The pizzas come in 12 & 16 inch. We loved our pizza. Good crust & delicious sauce. Toppings were plentiful. Would definitely return. As a note of their friendliness, since their chairs are wooden, some of the older eaters had cushions. We noticed them dropping them off in a stack by the door as they exited. Never saw a restaurant care that much! My 92 yr. old aunt always has to bring hers along when she eats out. Nice touch! read more

The outside does not look like much but when you walk through the door... It is a very nice place. Very clean and nice decorations everywhere with a cute little bar to serve drinks. I had the baked ziti with chicken added. It was good but lacked in flavor. The bread was also really good but for the price you would be better off just going to olive garden. I give 3 stars because the wife and kids all said it was good and I did try a bit of pizza and it was the perfect blend of Italian seasoning and cheese. read more

Terrible service. Waite over an hour for a slice of pizza a salad and a sandwich. Turns out our server either didn't put in the order or she left it at the window for ever. I was hungry and we both ordered a chicken Parmesan sandwich. Thinking of how bad can it be? Presentation was definitely not the best, sauce was straight out of the can and the chips were in the bag placed on the Styrofoam plate. The least that could've been done was taking the chips out of the bag and show some care. It was not busy at all, felt forever for the food to reach our table. The 4 of us where there last Wed, the 15th, and shall NEVER return. The Service by some young fellow was horrible. I asked for my veal cutlet Parmagian to be Light on the cheese. It came with NO cheese.! My bottle of Michelobe Ultra never got to my table. He handed me a glass of flat beer. I waited 5 minutes to get his attention for some Parmeson cheese but he ignored me.....I finally got up and walked across the room to get one from a table on the other side. My veal was overdone and the spaghetti was cold. Your Tomato sauce was awful...really awful. Paul Newmans in a jar is far superior. I never write reviews ever so for me to write this I felt absolutely disrespected. I hate to make it about race but it definitely felt that way.Walked in and it was crowded mostly older people. I asked to sit at the bar. There only two people when I got there. I sat at the end. I Was there literally 5-10 mins waited nobody acknowledged me sitting at all. An older couple came sat directly next to me. A young tall white guy in his twenties speed walked and tended to them right away even chit chatted with them, mind you I'm right next to these people. Came back three times gave them silver ware talked and gave them drinks. The older lady behind the bar as well talked and laughed no acknowledgement. I've had there food it's decent not for the price though. The two stars is for the service. You can tell what kind of money they take and or people they rather service mainly white predominantly sun city. I felt disappointed and disrespected I got up and left. If your brown or black don't come here. Maybe it was because I had nikes on I don't know but you can tell color people aren't welcome like that. read more

Everyone is very selective about their pizza crust and this place does it exactly the way I like it--thin, but not too thin and crispy as in golden and not burnt. I told my server that I had been dreaming about the pizza, so I had to return. Try the one with chicken, spinach, and tomatoes...the exact name escapes me. Yummy! Called in an order for pick up, was told 30 minutes, which being a Friday night wasn't bad. Arrived 30 minutes later, order wasn't ready, in fact pizza wasn't even in the oven. One of the cooks in the back a blonde headed women, blurted out "well they just have to wait". Of course this was all done after I paid the bill, which clearly stated the two pizza that weren't cooked. The women taking the order initially offered no apologies or explanation other then come back in 10 minutes. Finally got food, croutons on salad stale, garlic bread cold, pizza rated just above Little Caesar's. Unfortunately the quality of the food here has diminished greatly. GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY and rest of the family pleased too! Won't find this place without GPS but so worth it for tired travelers. Staff was unbelievably friendly. Steady stream of customers but not a loud restaurant. Read reviews that were mixed and glad we came to form our own opinion. I've been ordering take-out pizza from Upper Crust, Okatie for about two years. Always a great pizza with good cheese, nice sausage and best of all, plenty of fresh basil. They have kept a database of phone numbers and pizzas ordered so usually when I called, they could see my phone number and would just ask if I wanted (whatever I ordered last time). Called in an order this evening and had a much different experience. First, the person on the phone couldn't get our last name correct and didn't know anything about a phone database. Instead of the usual 15 minute quote on time, she said 25 minutes. I drove over after 15 minutes and found my pizza boxed and ready to go. There was a little problem finding the order since they had misspelled my name and didn't seem to have the order by phone number any more. When she opened the box to show the order, the pizza definitely looked different than any prior order. First, there were about 5 little slices of basil (on a large pizza). The cheese actually looked like some kind of yellow (cheddar?) instead of the normal light colored mozzarella. The pizza also had a shiny look (i.e. greasy). I requested some more basil then took the pizza and headed for home. My wife took one look at the pizza and asked where I got it. I definitely didn't look like Upper Crust. I took a slice and gave it the test. It wasn't bad pizza (for me pizza has to be very bad before I complain). It was, however, not what I expected. The ground sausage was definitely something new. It was greasy (thus coloring the mozzarella orange) and added a lot of salty taste to the pizza. The mozzarella didn't pull out in strings like I was used to (I assume because it was a different brand/quality of cheese). I got the impression that Upper Crust has either changed ownership or management and have taken steps to reduce the cost of ingredients. It is definitely not the pizza they were serving this time last year. The next time I have an urge for pizza, I will probably go looking for something new. I'm afraid that Upper Crust may have gone the way of many good restaurants--build a good reputation and client base, then screw with the formula. Sorry to see it go. read more

Don't go here. Service is horrible. This is not our first visit here. Food is good, but I really don't think they know anything about customer service. We sat outside because it was a beautiful evening. There was another party there with four adults and a child. We waited for a few minutes before they got us drinks and menus. We ordered an appetizer and a pizza. Food came out reasonably quick, but no one ever came back to check on us at all. No refills, no "would you like dessert?" no "how is everything?" The other table was waited on and the waitress even doted on the little girl as they left. When the waitress finally came outside it was dark. She came to clear the other table and then noticed us. Clearly, she had forgotten about us. She asked us how everything was and we replied that we finished 25 minutes ago. She brought us the check (which was wrong-it had an extra coke on it) and I asked for the manager. When she came out she told us she was sorry, they were busy etc. and then asked us if we needed anything else. She didn't offer to refill our drinks, free dessert or even comp our drinks or our bill. She left and still no one, I repeat no one came back out to get our money or credit card. Maybe it's because we don't live in Sun City and aren't regulars. I am not sure, but the area has too many restaurants for me to waste my time or money on an establishment that cares nothing about it's customers. read more

We have eaten here 4 times and had great service. Today we went and the service was horrible. There were only 2 people serving. We were told that one was the manager. There was a party of about 15 people and about 8-10 other tables with 2-4 people each. It took 20 minutes to get our salads. Then, we sat and watched our pizza wrap and grinders sit at the pass for at least 15 minutes while the waiter was cleaning off tables and ringing up checks. Of course the sandwiches were like warm at best (although the waiter said they were supposed to come that way) and the manager looked perplexed when we said we didn't want to eat them and weren't paying for them. Customers (including ours) refills weren't given, people were waiting excessively for their checks to pay and leave, others were asking if anyone was going to take their order. I wondered why the manager wouldn't have scheduled more wait staff with a party that large. It seems that the Upper Crust cares more about serving a large party of 15 than the rest of their customers. read more

My husband wanted to show us some of his favorite restaurants and The Upper Crust was one he said we absolutely had to go to. We were called ahead to make sure we wouldn't be cutting it too close since we were driving from Hilton Head. I'm so happy we were able to try it out. By far one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. We tried the house special. The crust was buttery with a garlicky seasoning to it and the pizza itself was VERY cheesy. We finished the entire 16" pizza between myself, husband, and 9yr old son. We were still eating after they'd closed and not once did they make us feel rushed or a burden to wait on us still. Definitely a place you should try out if you enjoy pizza! read more

The Pizza was amazing... We ordered the Meat lovers and the Malibu. The ingredients were fresh and made all the difference. This was the best Pizza I have had in a very long time, hard to find in the Hilton Head & Bluffton Area. Their menu extends beyond pizza with pasta, sandwiches & Salads. I have dined here more than a handful of times and the ingredients always fresh with service that always is accompanied with a smile. Oh, and how could I forget they had a delicious shrimp salad which was lightly dressed and extremely flavorful. Amber was our server and was absolutely delightful!! Ask for her.
