The owner here is really sweet. Found this gem tucked away in the heart of downtown just around the corner from Mission Inn. I ordered their roast beef dip and got their soup of the day. The sandwich was very delicious. The bread was nice and warm and the roast beef to bread ratio was awesome. They're a juice sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. That chicken curry soup was amazing. Definitely recommend. It definitely games vintage vibes in the area and there are Christmas lights all over the trees. I'm sure this place is busy and beautiful at night due to the mission Inn and people coming from all over to see the lights.

Friendly and welcoming counter service at this casual eatery. We ordered the French dip and a ham and cheese sandwich. Each came with a side of pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, carrots sticks, coleslaw or fresh fruit. Soup costs an extra buck. We had the Thai noodle soup and it was delicious! The whole sandwiches are only $1 more than a half of a sandwich. So you may as well get a full one! They offer a wide variety of meats and cheeses. There are a few booths inside - but mostly patio seating in front or in a courtyard. A great find for lunch.

There's nothing better than a delicious deli sandwich! The Upper Crust seems to be a Riverside staple. As I was walking by, I heard someone talking about it being a sort of local institution. Then, when I walked in, I love that I was in line behind a regular who clearly came here frequently. I get why. The food is good but the staff is amazing! I was greeted by the loveliest woman. While trying to choose between sides, she told me she'd give me a little of both to try because they were both homemade and she wanted me to try! I had a half chicken sandwich, the tomato flora tine soup and pasta and potato salad. Everything was so good!

Today, I landed myself in Ontario, California. While staying at the Mission Inn, I was walking around checking out the plethora of restaurants in the area looking for lunch. I came across a simple sandwich shop, Upper Crust Sandwich Shoppe! Upon walking in, you notice there is very little inside seating but plenty outside. Very tight fit. It resembles the sandwich shops I run into when I frequent NYC and Boston. I thought the very friendly owner was from there but he's not lol! The menu has plenty of soups like chicken and rice, clam chowder, and chili. I got the chili. I went with his recommendation... chicken salad sandwich with squaw bread (dark/sweet/wheat bread). The food was absolutely delicious!!!! The sweet bread with the fantastic chicken salad is a grand slam! The chili is watery compared to what I like, but the flavor is perfect!!! Personal preference I cannot ding them for. All this was very reasonably priced as well. If you are in the area, Upper Crust is absolutely worth dropping in!

Staff was welcoming. Food was delicious and you get a good servicing size. It was tasty and I appreciated that they make the sandwiches inhouse so you can customize. You can also ask for extra condiments. While I was waiting the guy offered me a cup of water. Very friendly people.

Was passing through Riverside and decided to stop by the upper crust to grab some lunch. We were greeted by the owner (didn't catch her name) who gave us the full spiel on her restaurant, and she was just the sweetest lady!!!!! She told us she's been open for over 20 years, which is incredible. We got a pastrami and roast beef sandwich on their homemade french roll and wow was it a good sandwich. It was so moist and so flavorful! We also tried their pasta and potato salad as our sides, and they were equally as impressive. Will absolutely be stopping by next time we're in town to try their chili!!!

Went today and got a whole sandwich plus a soup. The soup of the day was clam chowder which honestly was delicious. The sandwich was good but tbh the soup would be my reason for return. The gentleman working the counter was great and had a super great attitude and whole to store was homey but the outside seating made up for all of it.

amazing service and amazing food. have been meaning to try this local, family-owned business for a while and glad i did. the owner was very sweet and helpful. they answered all our questions and made recommendations. as an extra plus they gave us some of their butternut squash soup (i had a hard time picking between the two). it was the perfect way to end the meal. it felt like a hug in a cup. the hawaiian was good the cheese and ham/turkey taste high quality we just though it could be elevated with having the pineapple be grilled/warmed up and/or if there was more in each bite ambiance was good. it was clean and quiet. very comfortable. a lot of seating options to pick from so that was a plus. good conversations too. overall, we had an awesome experience . they are very kind here! will definitely be back to try more things like that selection of root beer, yum.

Comes with sides.. I couldn't decide so they gave me a little of both

I've been visiting The Upper Crust for years, and I've never been disappointed. Although I live in Sacramento, I frequently travel to Riverside for work, and whenever I'm here, the egg salad sandwich from The Upper Crust is an absolute must. If you love egg salad, trust me, this will be one of the best you've ever had. My recommendation is to get it on a roll with cheddar cheese--perfection! The service is consistently excellent. The staff is incredibly friendly, and you can tell they truly value customer service. Once they learn your name, they'll use it every time you visit, which adds a nice personal touch. The restaurant itself is cozy, but they have a lovely outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal while people-watching.

half sandwich with whole wheat bread and turkey, and vegetable soup

i would come here every day for the rest of my life ... kindest owners and staff who explained everything on the menu and gave suggestions and samples of the soups! the food was amazing, i ordered the half sandwich and soup and everything tasted so fresh, especially the vegetables, and the bread was very soft and not at all stale. i can't wait to come back next time im in riverside

Chicken salad sandwich on squaw, with everything minus the onions. Half potato salad and half pasta salad.

This place has been the best experience of my 3-day jury duty selection process here in Riverside! Left me hoping I'd get picked just to come here every day! Hehehe! :) I was a first timer so I let the owner pick for me. He recommended the chicken salad on squaw bread. Every sandwich comes with sides, and he picked half potato salad and half pasta salad (not the macaroni salad). I was going to get a half sandwich, but for $1 more you can get a whole one, so why not? Well, I literally cleaned my plate!! And they were nice portions! The chicken breast was so moist and seasoned so well! They use Best Foods mayo and good ole seasoning salt - that's it! The squaw bread was perfectly soft, and the sprouts, pickles, lettuce and tomato topped it all off nicely. It was just a very good, perfectly made, simple sandwich! But the big star on my plate for me was that pasta salad! I can eat a bucket of that! Everything is made fresh and in-house. The owner is super nice and will crack some dad jokes while you order and wait! And what a human! A homeless man whose sugar dropped walks in and the owner gave him a cookie to help regulate his blood, gives him ice water, and asked the chefs in the back to fix him some food. This says it all as to why you need to try this gem if you haven't already! Great food, and amazing hospitality!

The inside itself is tight you may be the lucky one to snag a seat if not, there's cute patio seating available among this pocket of shops. A great stop to take in the downtown vibes also a front row seat for the Saturday farmers market. Reasonable for the downtown area, fresh baked bread served with their soup and sandwiches, salads and seasonal fruits. Great service and pleasant visit. Sidewalk metered parking available but on Saturdays the street is closed off for farmers market. Parking available in surrounding areas with a short walk.

    Ham sandwich

Ham sandwich for $14. One slice of ham and they forgot the cheese. What a ripoff. Would not recommend, will not go back. Try simple Simon's, cheba hut or even lake alice for bigger and better sandwiches

Honestly, the line is mainly due to the customers taking their sweet time while ordering. You might have a hard time finding a table to sit at inside, but they also have outside seating. Price-wise you'll probably spend around $15-$20 per person. I highly recommend their grilled chicken sandwhich. It comes with grilled chicken, lettuce and tomato, all on a toasted sourdough bread covered with pesto and cheese. For the side I typically get the Italian pasta salad, which is always delicious. One thing about this sandwhich is that the chicken will never cover the entire bread and it will never be distributed evenly. So you will always have one half that has less chicken and ends up being part veggie pesto sandwhich, which is still worth it. The other favorite is a turkey club sandwhich on a croissant. It's basic, but also very tasty. They also carry a variety of pastries and serve Klatch coffee (brewed coffee) if you need a sweet treat afterward.

Definitely 5 stars for the breakfast Atmosphere inside is very welcoming and cute nothing fancy just an old school feel which I like Customer service 5 stars for sure. Employees have been friendly each time and they bring out food to you on the patio. Unfortunately the location is increasingly a problem at least while sitting outside. Lots of homeless people around some on drugs and some unstable. Last time I was there a homeless man threw an orange at someone who was eating next to me for no reason at all. It's not the first time something happens that feels unsafe and although there's not much the restaurant can do about it it does affect the ambience

The first small disappointment was finding out they don't offer mushrooms. As a big mushroom fan, especially on a hot sandwich, that was a bit of a letdown -- but not a deal breaker. I ordered the D'Loaded Cheese Steak, which honestly would've been perfect with mushrooms. When I opened it up, it looked absolutely delicious. The flavor definitely delivered -- I won't deny that at all. It was very tasty. My main issue was the texture and structure of the sandwich. It came out extremely hot and very wet. The bottom of the bread was completely soaked, which made it difficult to pick up without it falling apart. I just wish the bread had held up better so I could've enjoyed it without the mess. Overall, the flavor was great, but I hope they can improve the sandwich structure a bit. I'd be willing to give it another try.
