    The bread is amazing

Crusty soft bread Craving an amazing sandwich, consider D' Elia's Grinders in Riverside on University Drive. The bread is reminiscent of the old Grinder Haven on Holt in Ontario - the crust breaks when you bite it and the softness of the bread underneath is amazing. The whole sandwich is great, but I continue to go back for the bread. Good food, and good service. Nice deli vibe, well kept, and good outdoor patio for dogs.

Clean place, friendly folks and fast service. Use your debit to avoid cc charges. Hot grinders are made in 4 minutes. My cheese philly was perfect. The wife's beef dip was shy on meat. Fries were hot, lightly salted just perfect.

I came here because my mom really loves D'Elia's Grinders, so I wanted to give it a try. I ordered the tuna sub and it wasn't great for me. The tuna-to-dressing ratio was off way too much tuna and not enough dressing, so it tasted pretty dry overall. On top of that, the flavor leaned more Miracle Whip than classic mayonnaise, which just isn't my thing. The bread is very hard and crunchy, almost stale tasting, but I know that's how it's supposed to be here. Still, it didn't help with how dry the sandwich felt. The inside of the shop is also very outdated, giving it a real old-school vibe. That said, I understand why longtime locals (and my mom) love this place it clearly has a loyal following. Just not the spot for me, especially for tuna.

With fresh rolls, generous portions of sliced meats, D'Elia's Grinders offers consistently good sandwiches. I keep forgetting how good this place is and need to remember how reliably delicious and fresh their sandwiches are. They are an institution. The place has been here since 1955! The building is well maintained, clean and organized. Staff is friendly and provides fast service.

Visited years ago and wanted to stop in again. This classic grinder shop has indoor or patio seating areas. Parking right in front. The toasty bread held a nice amount of veggies great when you're looking for a classic. Service was great and wait time minimal. Order at the counter and pick up. Right off university down the way from UCR.

5 is for the food always great and with good flavor. Never disappointed. But the cleaning needs to be done at all times. Every time we come tables dirty and floor too. And people behind the counter always at times standing instead of checking tables or at least to ask if all is well. Service just saying.

    WHOLE Hot Pastrami

Hot Pastrami is more roast beef but it's good. Ask about their "soft bread". I haven't had it yet but the current bread is tougher on the outside than I prefer. Nothing bad though.

Worst sandwich place I've ever been to. Bread was hard as a rock. Tons of lettuce with little quality ingredients. I cannot believe the high rating for this place. It was my husband and my first time here and we left without eating most of it. Really terrible.

Decided to redeem my bday cash with a D' Sicilian, grinder was basically half priced. It was Sunday at 11:30 am. Smooth transaction and while I waited (less than 10 minutes) I noticed great staffing, getting ready for the upcoming rush. Although the place was quiet, customer facing employees should at least appear busy. They were pleasant and helpful, I even bought a 70th t-shirt. The discounts and specials keep me coming back, not to mention the bread! It's the bread!

This was my first time visiting D'Elias, which is actually a childhood favorite of my wife's. I love a good sandwich shop, so I was excited to try it. The first small disappointment was finding out they don't offer mushrooms. As a big mushroom fan, especially on a hot sandwich, that was a bit of a letdown -- but not a deal breaker. I ordered the D'Loaded Cheese Steak, which honestly would've been perfect with mushrooms. When I opened it up, it looked absolutely delicious. The flavor definitely delivered -- I won't deny that at all. It was very tasty. My main issue was the texture and structure of the sandwich. It came out extremely hot and very wet. The bottom of the bread was completely soaked, which made it difficult to pick up without it falling apart. I just wish the bread had held up better so I could've enjoyed it without the mess. Overall, the flavor was great, but I hope they can improve the sandwich structure a bit. I'd be willing to give it another try.

So how much meat is on a whole grinder? I am assuming two slices.

I didn't weigh the meat, but they are very generous with the servings.

Is there a vegetable sandwich available?

    Absolutely, its the Loaded vegetarian!

Is D'Elias still offering buy one get one free grinders on game days as long as the Dodgers are in the playoffs?

Yes they are on game days. Enjoy😋

Last time I went grinder was dry and not enough lettuce. Was a phone in so didn't know until I got home. Also pasta salad was old and oily?

Hi, Rebecca. Thank you for the comments. In the last couple of years, we have received hundreds of "too much lettuce" complaints. Just recently, we made an attempt at putting on a more consistent amount of lettuce, and many (not hundreds) like…

We first visited on Valentine's Day in February and had an excellent experience. The pizzas were delicious, we were seated without a reservation, and we left excited to come back. Yesterday, we decided to bring a few friends with us because we had spoken so highly of the restaurant. We arrived a little after 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday, and the restaurant was fairly empty with only a handful of tables occupied. We were seated immediately, and our waitress was friendly throughout the meal. Each couple ordered pizzas along with appetizers and drinks. We ordered the Italian salad but were accidentally brought the Green Goddess instead. It was a harmless mistake, and since we had enjoyed that salad during our previous visit, we happily kept it. Our friends received their pizzas, and we assumed ours would follow shortly. Thirty minutes passed, and by then our friends were nearly finished eating. Meanwhile, we noticed several tables that had arrived after us receiving their food before we did. We asked our waitress to check on our order. She went back to the kitchen and returned, explaining that our pizza had apparently been forgotten and was only then being made. She assured us it would take no more than 10 minutes. Fifteen more minutes passed, and our pizza still hadn't arrived. Since we had a clear view of the kitchen, it didn't appear there was any urgency to get our order out. At that point, after waiting nearly an hour since placing our order, we had to cancel it because we had other plans and couldn't stay any longer. Our waitress apologized and removed the pizza from our bill, but that was the only resolution offered. While we appreciated her kindness, we left the restaurant disappointed and still hungry. Mistakes happen, and forgetting an order is understandable from time to time. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. After waiting an hour for a forgotten order, we had hoped for a more meaningful effort to make things right beyond simply removing the item we never received. It's unfortunate because we genuinely loved this restaurant after our first visit and were excited to introduce it to our friends. Thankfully, our friends enjoyed their meals, but this experience left us hesitant to return. Great pizza is important, but great service and how a restaurant responds when things go wrong are what keep customers coming back.

(: We were very grateful for that. I got the Italian Grinder with no red onions and substituted the ham for turkey. I chose the pasta salad as my side, and the sandwich also came with some kind of vinaigrette. The flavors were good, but I think the bread started to come apart near the end, and I personally wish the red peppers had more of a pickled aspect! I also got the Lemon Cheesecake Bar (?), which was yummy, but it does have nuts on top. I think a crumble topping would be even better instead. I came in at sort of an odd hour for lunch so the place was pretty chill and not too busy. Service style is fast casual where you order at the counter and find a seat. The pastrami was griddled and has an old school flavor and style with some nice crunch from the sourdough. A great sandwich overall!
