This was my first time visiting D'Elias, which is actually a childhood favorite of my wife's. I love a good sandwich shop, so I was excited to try it. The first small disappointment was finding out they don't offer mushrooms. As a big mushroom fan, especially on a hot sandwich, that was a bit of a letdown -- but not a deal breaker. I ordered the D'Loaded Cheese Steak, which honestly would've been perfect with mushrooms. When I opened it up, it looked absolutely delicious. The flavor definitely delivered -- I won't deny that at all. It was very tasty. My main issue was the texture and structure of the sandwich. It came out extremely hot and very wet. The bottom of the bread was completely soaked, which made it difficult to pick up without it falling apart. I just wish the bread had held up better so I could've enjoyed it without the mess. Overall, the flavor was great, but I hope they can improve the sandwich structure a bit. I'd be willing to give it another try. read more

First time here. Placed look clean. Asked if they had combos, was told they do not everything is separate. Ordered 2 half sandwiches 2 sides and 2 med. drinks. $48 dollars. Good lawd! (Was lobster on these sandwiches) Pros - Food was good. Fresh ingredients Potato salad was very good. Place was clean. Employees were friendly. Cons - Too expensive for what we got. We could've went to a good full service sit down restaurant for much less (tip included). Will we be back? I'd like to say yes but not at these prices. Also the 40 min drive makes it not worth it. Crusty soft bread Craving an amazing sandwich, consider D' Elia's Grinders in Riverside on University Drive. I came here because my mom really loves D'Elia's Grinders, so I wanted to give it a try. I ordered the tuna sub and it wasn't great for me. The tuna-to-dressing ratio was off way too much tuna and not enough dressing, so it tasted pretty dry overall. On top of that, the flavor leaned more Miracle Whip than classic mayonnaise, which just isn't my thing. The bread is very hard and crunchy, almost stale tasting, but I know that's how it's supposed to be here. Still, it didn't help with how dry the sandwich felt. The inside of the shop is also very outdated, giving it a real old-school vibe. That said, I understand why longtime locals (and my mom) love this place it clearly has a loyal following. Just not the spot for me, especially for tuna. read more

Personally, after dropping $40.00 for two sandwiches, the least the person who hands it to you can do is say, "thank you". If the manager has 1 brain cell he/she should instill a sense of gratitude on behalf of the employees. When a customer says "thanks so much" upon receiving the order the employee should NOT say, "yeah" and walk away. Grew up in Riverside, and this place has gone way down market. The bread is great but I just refuse to tolerate this crappy service anymore. $40.00, two sandwiches and not even a "thank you", I will never return here. Decided to redeem my bday cash with a D' Sicilian, grinder was basically half priced. It was Sunday at 11:30 am. Smooth transaction and while I waited (less than 10 minutes) I noticed great staffing, getting ready for the upcoming rush. Although the place was quiet, customer facing employees should at least appear busy. They were pleasant and helpful, I even bought a 70th t-shirt. I've been coming here since I was a little kid riding in the car with mom or dad, on the way to "Dee-ya's" (it's De-LEE-ah, by the way). My favorites are the cold roast beef grinder and the meatball grinder, but almost everything is good. They also make the best fries in town. The only thing I haven't enjoyed in the past few years was the BBQ beef. It used to be my favorite back in the day when I remember it as sort of a shredded pot roast simmered in BBQ sauce. However, the last time I ordered it, it was just finely chopped deli beef tossed in a loose BBQ sauce. I wouldn't order that again. Service is usually friendly and the restaurant is clean. These days, driving to either location means going way on the other side of town, but it's always worth the drive when I get a craving for that crispy, messy bread full of goodness. read more

D'Elia's has a rewards points program that DOESN'T reward you points. They don't honor it and just continue to lie to you. I can't tell you how many times they rip you off. Also if you order after 2pm you get the OLD BREAS that no longer is fresh. Been eating there for 25 years and now it's time to stop. It's just not the same. read more

Took my wife to D'Elia's today for the first time and left a little humiliated. We ordered a Philly D'Fuego and a D'Turkey Club. The Fuego was fantastic as usual with a nice blend of savory spicy meat on flaky soft bread. However, that wasn't the issue. As my wife ate her Turkey D'Club she realized her $15 grinder literally had only 2 paper thin slices of turkey. The description above says D'Elia's is 'generous' with their meats. That statement should be seriously revised. The D'Club was 75% bread, 20% Lettuce, 3% veggies, followed by 2 almost transparent slices of turkey. Don't think I'll be able to convince the wife to go to D'Elia's again. read more

He fell in love with the grinders and actually said they reminded him of a place called D' Gangis in Pomona ( not sure on spelling) but said they were exactly like D'Elias...same bread, shredded lettuce, etc. He told his parents about them and they used to drive all the way from Chino to get a grinder. RIP to my in-laws. Lately, I order online and use the rewards...even without the rewards I'd still come here.
