The crew here is pretty on it. I recognize some faces from the old Plaza location where they ran a tight ship, and it's continued in this smaller but more accessible Brookside location. I get hung up on shipping as the costs vary widely, I don't always know what box to use, and it's just a general black hole at times. They'll get you set straight here and usually with a smile. The prices are what they are, sometimes fair, sometimes a bit high but it's on par with any other shipping services as far as I know. It's also very easy to get in and out here. There is street parking, the ability to walk a block or two, and even their own little lot attached to the west side of the building. This review should start with... let's not forget the basic service places that serve us on a daily that we so often overlook. They too deserve a good review and a kind word. We are lucky in our lovely little neighborhood to have such a convenient location. We have them at our fingertips. Let's also consider their staff and struggles. Their staff works hard. They're always busy. They may not pat you on the back and remember your name... but they are a very high volume store considering the very small amount of real estate they have here. Be kind, understand they serve this neighborhood well and without them, we'd have an empty space and would be driving quite a distance for another store of their type. Let me be clear, I've used their other stores and have been GRAVELY disappointed. So before we stink on a store that has served us for years... keep in mind, the grass may not be greener (it's NOT!!!). I'm in this store 5 days per week. I went in for a notary and was turn down for the first time in my life. This guy was incredibly rude and using his certificate from the State as a way to act like some kind of judge, picking and choosing what he felt like signing. Also he asked for $5 per signature. I used to love coming to this store. The staff was helpful and very friendly and made sending items easy. Lately I have noticed that they have hired someone new named Bobby who seems to try and find every reason why I cannot ship something. Which has made me decide to drive a little farther to find a ups store that does not hassle me every time I come in. I may try this store later when the new staff is better trained, but for now I have decided to not be using this location. I used to come here all the time but it seems as though Bobby is hell bent on not allowing me to ship packages. It is less about the fact that I have everything that I need to ship something and more about his attitude towards helping. Always a mess of boxes you need to circumnavigate, always a long line, either a new employee learning while you wait or an employee pacing behind the desk and just LOOKING at the line. And then "Ken" -- who lied when asked his name -- refused to ring me up. Actually suggested I go to another location. lol. Wonder if the owner realizes his staff send money AWAY. This my first time posting a review However, Thursday I was in the Brookside UPS Store. There were 3 employees in there and as I waited for my turn to get help I was watching as they helped the customers before me & They gave everyone such kind, nice & helpful service. That's not something you see everyday anymore. I would recommend not coming to this UPS store. Go to the one in downtown Kansas City. The store in Brookside charged me $3.50 for a label to be printed off for an Amazon prime return. The store in downtown Kansas City never charges you anything to print a label. They do it free of charge. Honestly $3.50 is unacceptable. Even if you were going to charge some thing at most a dollar. It was printing off one piece of paper. read more

Well....let me start by saying I usually love and trust The UPS Store. I was on this side of town, and I needed to print 2 pages of a document from the computer quickly. The owner came out from the back and told me that someone had just printed a lot of pages and the printer was out of toner. I would have to email him the document pages, and he would print them in the back. I told him I was really in a hurry, but I would pull them up on my phone and email him. Then, he took a really long phone call. He was talking really really loudly. Just as I hit send on a sensitive document, he proceeded to tell someone on the phone he had a warrant out for his arrest for unpaid parking tickets. Then, he said he needed to get his checking account figured out because he had bounced some checks!! So, here I was, in a hurry, trying to get to a meeting in a bit of a hurry; and he picked this time to deal with his legal/financial problems. Yikes!! I asked him to delete my email. I've lived in Brookside for a long time and try to give as much of my business as possible to Brookside businesses, but the management at the UPS store is consistently rude and inattentive. They also like to insist that you purchase their packaging materials so they can make money off the purchase rather than ship your own prepackaged shipments. I once brought in business files packaged securely in a new Iron Mountain box and the manager said he wouldn't ship it unless I purchased his box claiming my new Iron Mountain box wasn't sturdy enough. It's unfortunate because Brookside businesses tend to be very friendly and have a neighborhood feel, but the management at the UPS store doesn't seen to want to provide that. read more

I want to give a positive review, and tell folks that this store deliver the goods time and time again for me. Been using the Plaza and Brookside branches for years now. So, I was trying to get a birthday gift delivered on time Saturday to a friend in California. As I was finally 'getting around to it' at closing time Thursday night, time was certainly tight. The thought hadn't occurred to me that they couldn't get my box there in time. I was pretty sure that it could happen. And the fee didn't really matter. Service is worth the cost. The manager and employees that I worked with were NOT rude to me, rather they were ALL considerate and helpful. Not only that, they got my package there early and made the day. I was able to be on Skype with my friend, & saw the package get opened as well. The employees & manager are great folks, & made me look like a hero and very much helped me make a great birthday! One of the WORST customer service experiences I've ever had. The quality of service was high quality, don't get me wrong, but the customer service was so terrible I'll never go again. I've been twice, thinking maybe my first time was a fluke, and the girl working was in a bad mood. I like to give the benefit of a doubt. Recently, I had to ship two large scale original paintings to a gallery in San Diego, CA. This being my first showing, I was unsure as to what to expect in terms of packaging, shipping, costs, and timelines. Luckily, Eric Corps and the wonderful team at UPS Store #4784 in Brookside was nothing but knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, helpful, and professional. Eric Corps, who has experience shipping original artwork for The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, effortlessly guided me through the process, explaining himself and the mechanisms along the way. Eric, who understood the cost, size, and fragile nature of the work, fluidly worked with me, walking me through the different steps of shipping, all while asking appropriate questions to find the simultaneous best and most economical way to pack and ship the work. After using the proper artist-approved archival paper, bubble wrap, and tape to buffer the work itself, he and his team hand built a wooden crate to securely situate the work and guarantee its safe arrival in California. Furthermore, Eric and his team packaged and shipped the paintings on the *same day*, the ultimate convenience as it saved me unnecessary Uhaul rentals. Weeks later, I had to ship another painting to a gallery in Louisiana who strictly works with FedEx. It wasn't until I dealt with the incompetency and misinformation from numerous of their employees that I became truly appreciative and inspired by the hospitable professionalism demonstrated by Eric and The UPS store in Brookside. I highly recommend Mr. Corps and look forward to shipping with him in the future. read more

UPDATE 6/10/2017: The store has had new ownership for awhile and customer service is much better. I often have packages with prepaid return labels to drop off in the morning on my way to work. I'm greeted with a smile and friendly "hello" every time now and they know me well enough to tell me that I can just leave my package on the counter and they will take care of it. I found this location to be very helpful and accomidating. The prices were fair since they are direct rates and I feel you get what you pay for. The employees at this location are fun and inviting, always greeting you when you walk in with a smile and they work with whatever you are needing help with in terms of shipping. I also found out they do everything the post office does and the hours are wayyy better then the crazy hours of the post office.
