I came in with an Amazon return. I went to the counter and had to wait a few minutes as the 60+ yo woman with was chatting with a fellow employee. There was no one else at the counter. She then proceeded to start informing me that they were real busy and to use the kiosk which had a waiting line of three customers. She then reluctantly stated that they could do counter assistance as well...clearly she did not want to help me out. I stated that the Amazon box I was using needed a strip of packing tape along the bottom before I checked it in...she then started to lecture me on how "this is not UPS, we are the UPS Store and we sell tape"...I think she forgot that not only was I a customer and a human being but that her store also gets paid to handle Amazon returns...at this, I frustratingly just picked up my package without a word and left to find another store. Shannon, manager is a very kind person. However, current staff are not customer service orientated. Not sure they are fully trained. No personality or warmth. Abrupt and unhelpful. Store is tiny, given the area they serve. It's loud, music blaring. Clearly they can barely handle the customers they are to serve. Manager should be on a register, also, helping customers. A fairly large box of Christmas gifts that I sent via UPS on December 16 did not arrive at its destination before Christmas. Every time I tracked the package it said "On it's Way" but had a yellow warning sign by it. I always go to the store on Odana Road run by Shannon Bogle (UPS store 0704) because her staff has always been kind, courtesy and provides excellent customer service. When I went into the store upon my return from the holidays, I talked with Mark Bogle and asked what I should do about my package since it had yet to be found or delivered. Mark spent the next week tracking my package down and to my amazement found the package. It ended up in Utah when it was supposed to be delivered out East. The package was found due to Mark's persistence and due diligence along with his outstanding customer service skills and his desirable to please a long-time customer -- something I did not experience when calling the UPS 800 number. Thank you Mark for making it your mission to find my package! You just don't find that kind of customer service anymore! Mark was kind and compassionate and really felt bad about the package not being delivered. Because of Mark's efforts, UPS is in the process of re-routing the package to the intended destination. Kudos to you Mark! You provided outstanding customer service and went the extra mile. Thank you for finding my package. My boyfriend and I went into this ups location #0704 today for finger printing and amazon returns. One of the lovey older ladies with short hair at the desk helped me every step of the way for the finger printing Id give her service 5 stars but unfortunately we can't go by employees but by the whole store itself. After finishing finger printing my boyfriend and I had brought our amazon returns in starting from our largest to the smallest. Once we returned all others and were on the smallest package it required a box or envelope so I walked over to the wall that had envelopes and grabbed one to walk it over to my boyfriend to see if our item would fit this envelope. Before we could even come to an agreement an ancient decrepit Karen of an employee with white/blonde shoulder length hair runs over to us and started yelling at my boyfriend and I saying "um you can't just take stuff off the wall!!" "I don't know what you're trying to do!!" "You can't use those that for this transaction!!" "You need to go pay that that right now at the desk" very very very aggressive she had a horrible tone and attitude we tried to explain what we were doing yet she just kept speaking over us. I told her she was being rude and she said "I'm just trying to help" who are you helping by yelling at customers. So I asked for the other employee to help us after I told her she's being rude and she went to hide in the back till we left. read more

Seen at this location today: Man places box on counter for shipping. Staff person: "UPS does not provide tape." Potential customer: "Ok, can I buy some?" Staff: "I suggest you go to the dollar store and get some to keep in your glove compartment for times like this. UPS does not provide tape. The UPS Store is providing this tape," as she puts one eight inch strip on his box. She sees the AT&T box in my hand and says I'll need to know my account number to return the box here. Despite AT&T telling me the box can be returned as is at any UPS Store. My observations at this location are always with who may be the manager, and who has always seemed annoyed that businesses have UPS ship deals that indicate she should do something that won't result in direct cash for her location. I went directly to the Gammon/University UPS Store location and Zach helped me out. Friendly and professional - no sass. Greeted the customer after me with a welcoming tone. Drive the extra mile or two to it and avoid Odana Rd. location. read more

A few years ago I was moving out of Madison and selling things on eBay. One of my monitors sold for $25 and I quoted the buyer $25 shipping. I took the monitor to this UPS store to be shipped. In addition to the $25 they charged a $25 fee for materials and packaging, which was fine - I just needed to get rid of the monitor and didn't have time to deal with the effort myself. A week later I get an e-mail from the buyer, saying the package had been dropped by the UPS guy and was broken. Since all UPS packages are insured to $100 against damage, I go to this store to get a partial refund. The staff here informs me that the insurance is void in this case. "Why is that?" I ask. "Well, it wasn't packed to our standards". "But YOU packed it!", I reply. "Well, it wasn't done to our standards, so too bad". Wow! This probably goes down as the most outrageous customer service response I've had my whole life. After some other crappy experiences at other UPS stores, I just decided to never ship anything through them or UPS for that matter. Since this event, I've shipped over 100 packages via FedEx ground and never had a problem. I think those results speak for themselves. read more

The receive the 1 star based on location and most counter help guys are sweet. Doc a Star = policies are inconsistent and price gauging. Most people don't read contracts & that's okay. Most people, like me, are new to the mailbox concept & that's okay. Well, they will charge you for everything possible including breathing (if they could). When asked about the charges or prices the manager, Shannon, loves to refer you to the contract. Well, I'm reasonable and I can read. Contract states nothing on an additional charge for access to the key code for After-Hours entry. a) I was then told let me contact Corporate b) let me contact the lawyers I'm patient. Call and email whomever then follow-up. The follow-up came and it was fine not to charge. I'm okay with that but I realize this wasn't provided to everyone so that's a noted issue. I bought the box with a Bucky Book coupon and added extra time to the 12 month contract. I'm happy I did it and would have loved to kept the address. but I don't need a box. I get 2 pieces of mail each month at this address so I called around to other stores to finally comparatively shop since I was up for renewal. Every store has a lower price and deals BUT each store offered me a smaller option WHICH IS WHAT I NEEDED. Back to Odana, explain my needs: NOTHING IS OFFERED. I asked explicitly about the smaller option and finally got the folder answer. Well, that's all I need based on my low volume. Asked for costs to ship: Packaging+ Labor+ Shipping rate Other UPS store cost to ship: Whatever the shipping rate is that I choose (except for one other place). I go in person now to ask the Odana location if they realize or know the other stores are charging way less because they don't upcharge. I proffer - please call Fitchburg and you can get the details directly. She obliges. She asks all the questions she can think of and get the answers. She heard first hand their rates for the "folder option" and the shipping rate they use. Question: Will you match their prices? I'll pay for 2 years in advance. Answer: No. Reply: Thank you. Summary: There's history here of I'm told something so I ask questions for clarity and to ensure we are all following the contract. Those questions must have bothered some folks because I've only had 4 interactions (opening the box, asking about after hours access, asking for a price match to stay on at this location and closing the box). Yep, they are well within their rights not to price match but why are you $100 more than the competitor with the same brand name? Why charge for door access and lie and say it's in the contract? Why charge to mail the mail when your brand name sister store does not AND I pay for a box service? If you can - it's worth it to go elsewhere. If you have to have a Madison service address then utilize the one in Madison or simply enter the Fitchburg address and list Madison, WI 53711 as the address and it will still get to the place. 53711 is a shared space for Fitchburg and Madison as the Boys& Girls Club building is in Madison but the parking lot Fitchburg. I had a great experience here with shipping some shoes out of town. The guy at the counter helped me determine if my box was a better price, or if their packing would be a better price. My box was a little bigger than it should have been but we determined that it was still cheaper to use my own box. Very helpful and friendly employees. I just left a review for the East Washington store about how they charged me for returning my Amazon packages when the other stores I've used did not. Well, add this Odana store to the list. Dont use this store for your Amazon returns. So one of the major differences between FedEx and UPS is that FedEx stores are corporate, UPS stores are franchises. (It's actually opposite for the trucks. UPS drivers are corporate employees, FedEx drivers are independent franchise owners, which is why FedEx usually ends up with less damaged packages) So prices, services, etc can vary wildly from UPS store to UPS store. For example, if I need something crated, I go to the Regent St store, as they specialize in that. We buy a ton of Amazon, and when you need to return something, you are supposed to bring the package and label to a UPS store (and Amazon is billed for the shipping charges). This store is the second location that I have ever used that charges you a service fee to return Amazon packages. Monona Drive doesnt. University Ave doesnt. Etc. I get it, the store probably makes 0 profits off Amazon returns, and it costs them tape and label holders and receipt paper and employee time. But, when I need something done that they WOULD profit from, I'm going to one of the stores that lets me return my Amazon packages for free. read more

This is NOT a UPS owned store. It's a franchise store and God forbid anything goes wrong with your package they will blame each other. In my case, I sent a package with extremely sensitive documents to New York and UPS app showed that package got damaged. No clarification in the app if package content has been lost. App also said estimated delivery information is not available and that made me more nervous. I started calling around. UPS sucks that way. You can't talk to a person. Finally on Social media someone from UPS responded I need to call the store because it was shipped from franchise store UPS can't help. After making two phone calls to the store finally someone wanted to give some information. She sounded very frustrated and rude. Very quickly she told me nothing happened to the package has been delivered. She said multiple times I hate UPS for doing this. Now I have to take her word without any proof because the app still says no estimate for the delivery. I kept checking the app and next day I start seeing the package progressing but of course it shows it's not delivered yet. So to me she blatantly lied just to get rid of me. This was my last time to use the store for sure. I will use FedEx from this point on as much as possible. read more

This was my first visit to this particular UPS Store. It was a Monday morning and frankly it was not very busy. 3 people behind the counter looked up when I walked in; three customers were already in the store and someone actually asked me what I needed. For me it's all about customer service. They greeted me promptly, they took care of my business within minutes and I was out the door. The location of the store is very convenient on Odana Road. There's plenty of parking. And there are all sorts of other shops and stores so if you are interested in shopping there's plenty to do. Highly recommended. read more

Franchise Fail. I get the model, but not paying $3 to have them print a shipping label for a free Amazon return, and last month when I paid them to pack a laptop to ship and asked them to ship on a corporate account they wouldn't give me a label to fill out. Guess what, I do have needs to ship personal items and guess what...I won't be using UPS Stores....BS procedures = poor customer retention/acquisition. The UPS Store business model is inherently flawed because there is a very clear case of channel conflict between the franchisor (UPS) and the franchisees. Franchisees get discounted rates on UPS shipping and then charge their customers The UPS Store retail rates, profiting from the difference. There is widespread frustration among customers of UPS -- who demand to be treated like regular paying customers of the store -- and among franchisees, who are understandably irritated at having to serve the customers of UPS who have all but bypassed their store in the transaction. The customers lose, the franchisees lose. The only real winner is UPS, which has gained thousands of staffed drop off locations nationwide. read more

I came to this UPS store to drop off two boxes with prepaid shipping labels. Since the boxes were big and heavy, I went into the store and asked if they had a trolley I could use. They said no, since the boxes were prepaid and not a sale for the store, I could not use any of their resources. I asked if that included having one of their employees give me a hand with the boxes. They couldn't give me a hand, nor could they loan me a trolley. I brought the boxes in myself, literally scooting and rolling them into the store. It strikes me as rather rigid and unfriendly to refuse to help a 5 foot tall woman manage two heavy boxes on her own, particularly when there were two employees present and the store was EMPTY. I will not be bringing any business to this store in the future. read more

With it being the time of year for shipping I expected it to be a little busy but, this store was a mad house boxes everywhere people taking tape and using it to close their package with out paying for the roll! The employees were overwhelmed and being rude because of that! I was just returning a item and when the gentleman who waited on me found that out he asked if I needed a receipt I said yes he printed one and then just tossed my box on the pile close to the door where anyone could just take a box and go! I have had a mailbox there now for a couple of years and stop in at least several days a week. The service is always A+ from Shannan, Bill or Mark as well as some of the new people. If only ZERO stars was an option. I just tried to drop off a package for overnight delivery as they were the only one in the area to accept pkgs past 5:45. I was told they could not accept the package because it had a hand-written UPS label (you know - from UPS...) - they could only accept pre-printed labels from UPS.com. Nor can they print one using your UPS number. So, the name above the door is THE UPS STORE but they cannot accept a UPS PACKAGE. With a UPS ACCT NUMBER. In a UPS BOX. And, they are quick to tell you they are not UPS. THEN TAKE THE SIGN DOWN. read more

It's too bad this store has such a bad review from one customer. I have had two positive experiences with customer service here - one woman gave me a helpful tip to cut down printing costs. It is actually called the UPS Store so I thought I was dealing directly with UPS, but instead this is a middleperson store that basically washes it's hands when things go wrong. The manager's idea of customer service is to give me the phone number of UPS. I requested that she call UPS since I paid her and used this place and my phone call to UPS would only result in their telling me the UPS Store was at fault - back and forth, back and forth. I WILL NEVER USE THIS PLACE AGAIN! My lesson has been learned well and I am out $130. read more
