The service and staff could be much better. At times they can be rude to customers and the prices are excessive. UPS should also hire a diverse staff as it is just one culture which is a form of discrimination. Also, make the environment comfortable during the summer months by providing the air conditioner! I've come to this location many times to ship out packages. Of the many times, I have never seen this place too packed. At most, I've had one person in front of me in line. And the wait for my turn was reasonable. The staff here has always been professional and efficient in their service. I already had the shipping label attached for all packages, so it was a matter of turning in the package and getting the receipt with the tracking number. The shipping times are reasonable as well. I've had items shipped to me from home in California, and it took less than a week to receive them. The delivery folks also left the package in front of my apartment door, as opposed to the lobby or the front of the building (learn, FedEx!). For all shipping, I most definitely prefer UPS over other companies. Much like the stores in Los Angeles, this store has maintained a good image of UPS. read more

I've been missing this place, UPS Store #5017, like crazy since I left the city last year. But it wasn't until my most recent pick-up at my local post office - when I was handed my third opened (and inspected?) box* in the last 12 months that somehow "just popped open" according to one of the staffers - that I couldn't get this UPS store outta my head. So here I am with an overdue Yelp. In the two-plus years I leased a mailbox from UPS Store #5017, I received nothing but sealed envelopes, packages, and boxes (which was what I had always been used to while receiving mail for over 30 years while living/residing in two different US states and five foreign countries before moving to NY state six years ago where I received my first torn-apart box of all-accounted-for clothing in Buffalo, NY). And like the intact mail they received on my behalf, the other services offered by UPS Store #5017 were done so with absolute professionalism and sincere kindness. I remember walking into UPS Store #5017 for the first time to sign my lease and seeing how unbelievably busy this place was. I was a bit anxious because of the intimidating number of stacked boxes (that hadn't yet been received on their end or picked up for delivery, not sure which) that kept the line of waiting customers from forming a snake within the store. This ended up being pretty much the norm when I'd come in to pick up my mail on different days and times of the week, which was surprising because I remember needing to use other, sometimes much larger, UPS Stores during those two years in parts of Manhattan where you'd think it'd be nothing but bananas all day, only to find each of those locations seeming to be waiting for the amount of business that UPS Store #5017 was getting. So, yeah, if you can lease a box here, go for it, and hold on to it for as long as you can. Seriously, before giving ours up (which was before our first box ever arrived opened at our current local post office), I was trying to figure out how to get downstate monthly to keep picking up our mail there. UPS Store #5017 is as good as it gets, and you can take that as a compliment. *In no way am I even hinting that the staff where I pick up my current mail is opening up my stuff. Had a package shipped to the store because I recently had some package theft in my apartment building. I picked up the package within a day of its arrival. I was charged a pick up fee of $15. I checked the UPS website about this policy and it reads: "If you are a UPS My Choice® member, The UPS Store and other UPS Access Point locations can hold your package for up to seven calendar days at no additional charge. Customer centers can hold your package for up to five business days." They essentially are ransoming packages. Edit: I went back to ask for a refund considering their policy was counter to the greater UPS's. My refund was refused and when I asked for any documentation that explained their service and fee structure they didn't have anything. As far as I know they just made up the price on the spot. read more

My fiancee and I came to this store on a Wednesday night, 10 minutes before closing with 17 packages, each going to a different location, that we needed to arrive by Saturday or our virtual wedding would have been ruined. We were assisted by Irene and Uzo, who were AMAZING! We were ready to beg and plead for their help, but they didn't even flinch and got right to work printing labels for each package as we stuffed them into envelopes. They both stayed with us for 40 minutes after store close to make sure the packages were processed and labeled. They were extremely patient and kind with us while we checked the addresses and made sure everything was correct. This was a customer service experience way beyond what we were expecting! Nice Staff, however, the notary is always late, as he can also become very rudely, and disrespectful to customers. Nobody deserves to be spoken to with arrogance, and told indirectly, or directly to leave the business before completing their transactions; intentionally, or unintentionally, this is not how you talk to a customer. The lady was doing my returns, he took me as a weakness and said " Are You Finished". I said " No, the lady is still handling my transactions". That was very unprofessional and disrespectful.. I went to this location simply to drop off a package. The clerk inside asked me to be a "witness" as he notarized a legal document?!! I declined. I literally just wanted to drop off a pre-packed shipment. I also reminded him that this is a legal transaction. He told me "no it's not that serious, it's simply your signature. What?!! I'm writing this review of the time I went to this UPS store. And ended up yelling. Before 9:30 in the morning. It was not a proud moment of my life. I brought a Verizon box here after Verizon assured me it could be returned via UPS due to a working partnership between the two companies. Apparently all I needed to do was bring the package in and the person would know what to do with it. Cool, seemed simple enough. I walked in with the package, explained the situation and was met with a blank stare and no reply. After rephrasing my mission to return the box to Verizon, we had the following conversation: Her: "We can't help you." Me: "What? But Verizon instructed I come here and send the box back through UPS," Her: "Nope. We can't help you here." Me: "I'm confused. I was told any UPS store could help me." Her: "Nope. We can't take this package in the store. You need to give it to a UPS driver." Me: "Wait, what? I have to find a UPS driver to give this to them?" Her: "Correct. We can't take it here. A UPS driver scans it when it goes in their truck." Me: "And can you tell me where and when I can find a UPS driver around here?" Her: "Nope." Me: "Are you kidding? I have to walk around with this box and find a UPS driver somewhere in the city?" Her: "Yep." Me: "Okay, I have an idea. Why don't you just tell me where you pile the boxes for the next pick-up and I'll place it on the pile." Her: Nope, I can't do that." Me: "Okay. Then just point to the pile and I'll put it down." Her: "Nope. Can't do that." At that point I ran out of patience and started yelling about how unhelpful and moronic that whole system was. The UPS woman yelled back, leading to an unproductive minute of LOUD VOICES. I walked out frustrated and angry, and still carrying the box. I popped into another UPS store I passed later that morning and the staff helpfully filled out a work order to return the package- without any yelling or suggesting I chase UPS drivers around the city. I love New York, even the sometimes 'tude but this place was pushy & mocked my friends' document she was trying to print when their printer was having trouble printing it.... The girl behind the counter couldn't even stop eating or put her sandwich down when she started grabbing at my friends things which were papers. Fried chicken grease, really??....and when they were asked if my friend had to pay for print outs they were running to test the problem, all wrongly printed, they wouldn't answer her. Not going back and neither is she. I'd have a real problem giving my valuable packages to anyone in there or trusting them to arrive anywhere but lost and crushed in some backroom. =/ read more

i ordered a package through an online buying & selling app i've used for nearly 5 years. two days ago says my package was delivered. weird because i was home all day and no postal carrier rang my doorbell. maybe it was scanned in on accident. fast forward to yesterday i get a strange email from someone who has my same street address but lives 2 blocks over saying they got my package. the package was delivered to 149 w 117th, not 149 w 119th like it says on the label. not only is this absolutely avoidable by doing your job correctly, it put me in an extremely uncomfortable and potentially dangerous situation as a young woman who now has to go meet a complete stranger to get a package i PAID to have delivered to my house. i'm extremely lucky this person was kind enough to track me down & was normal but this situation could have EASILY been a horror story all because some lazy employee decided to cut corners. delivery folks, please read delivery labels correctly, it's what you're paid to do. read more

I went to this location to drop off an Amazon item that I was returning. Everything was packed up with all the proper printouts and shipping labels ready to go. The lady working the counter said she had to charge me $1.00 + tax to close up my box. Wait are you serious?! For a 12" strip of tape to close the top you are going to charge?? "It's store policy." You guys are in the business of shipping packages, I'm sure you have hundreds of rolls of tape lying around. Why would you want to nickel and dime your customers for something so insignificant? You should be embarrassed! I now go to the UPS store on 116 and Lenox and they've never heard of such a thing. read more

Friendly staff but when needing to print an RMA label at the store was told it would cost $.59 cents. Surprise comes when you are charged $4.00 to use the computer to generate label! I was a customer for 3 years. Each time new employees came on board, I found packages that were not mine included. On at least 4 occasions I took home items that were not mine. In one instance it was a computer belonging to another customer and after this happened several times, I made the owner come to my house to pickup the items. They are supposed to call you when a package arrives, but too frequently this does not happen. Too many teenage employees and an absentee owner. read more

This store has grown more functional and efficient over time as a mailbox provider anyway. (i don't use the shipping really). They are friendly and courteous with me and I find their other services convenient like being able to print or buy boxes. Went in to do an amazon return. They charged me $2 to use the computer.......I didn't touch their computer. And then $0.59 for printing for the label. I'm thinking it was for the mailing and nope it was for computer usage. I asked if I'm charged for the computer even though I didn't use it and he said Yes. Guess I won't be coming back to that location again. I would have rather the woman tell me to print it myself on their computer so I could justify the use. Will go to the location on 116th or 125th instead. There are way too many locations to go back there. read more

Shipper beware. This location got one star for having a sign outside that proclaims "UPS." Do not trust the UPS logo outside. Through hard experience, we learned that the UPS stores are managed by a mailbox company rather than by UPS. This is unfortunate, because the store workers and management are incompetent and there is little possibility for satisfactory recourse. Before visiting this location, I called to inquire about closing time. When I arrived two hours before the time they had told me, they were already closing ! It was holiday time, and expectant shippers were banging on the door. The workers yelled, "We closed ! No !" I had just made it inside. I handed over a holiday gift to be shipped, also handing the guy behind the counter the item receipt to help him understand the exact value. I asked him to package the item, insure it for the stated value, and have it delivered within three or four days. I had to ask him for the receipt back ( he had tossed in aside). They completed only the delivery part of the task. I assume they failed at appropriate packaging, because the item arrived in a million pieces. Then, the real ordeal began. We spent hours arguing with the employee, the store manager, and the company, "Mailboxes, etc." The employee, likely distracted by the early closing, had not opted for enough insurance, either because he cannot read, or because he did not pay attention to the receipt I had given him. The employee claimed, of course, that he had insured the item for the amount I had requested, and the manager, although not present at the time, backed him up. The manager was quite rude, belligerent, and clearly desperate. In the end, we received about a third of the value of the item. Both the store and "Mailoboxes, etc." refused to refund the shipping and packing costs - in excess of $50. Moreover, we waited an inordinate amount of time for the refund to be processed, in the end learning that the UPS store had spent the refund check ! No one had notified us. The check needed to be re-issued. Do not trust this UPS store with anything. We did not receive good service from "Mailboxes, etc.," apparently the body that manages them all. I will never return to a UPS store or any business owned by "Mailboxes, etc.," whoever they are, and I now have a cautious and negative view of UPS generally speaking. read more

I went here to mail an international package and the service that the storeperson, Ms P, we'll call her, and the owener, Mr S, gave me was terrible. They basically took my $150 and then proceeded to do everything they could to sabatoge the delivery of my package. And when I called back to get help, they both yelled and cursed at me. It was unbelievable. Unless you want to end up q) yelling at someone to get basic service b) wasting all your money and time to *not* have packages delivered c)have to go to court to get your money back, I suggest you skip out on this UPS. Wow, I wish I had checked the Yelp reviews on this place first. I have to join the chorus on how awful they are. I worked as a retail cashier for years and years and know how hard it can be, and so I have a lot of patience with sullen, unhappy, or even directly rude service employees. It is not an easy life and I'm willing to attribute almost any amount of unpleasant behavior to them just having a really rough day. The woman I just dealt with absolutely blew my mind, though. This is the first time in my entire life that I'm actually writing a negative review of a business. I am signed up with their package receiving service. For some reason they couldn't explain, they refused delivery on one of my packages and it's now being returned to sender, which is going to be a real pain to sort out. There was no apology or explanation of any kind, just this aggressive attitude that seemed to suggest I was at fault. She told me to have it sent back to them. And then this: Me: "OK. How can we be sure it won't be refused again?" Her: "Sir, PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. What you need to do when that happens is LEARN FROM THEM." Me: "Can I ask why you're being so rude to me?" Her: "Fuck you." I guess a better question would have been, why are you telling me that I need to learn from YOUR mistakes? They try to charge whatever they feel like, I suspect they think they can get away with this in a neighborhood that is being gentrified. Does UPS not look after their stores? Yesterday I went in and was quoted $50 to pack a computer. This was just for them to pack it, not ship. I was told by the associate that she really had to pack well because she was responsible if anything broke. Ok so sounds like a good deal? I come back in and for packing alone 75$. This was to pack two boxes. I brought up that I wouldnt need insurance because she claimed she was responsible. No she wasnt responsible for anything, insurance was required. She began screaming at me when confronted about the difference in price. I went outside and called fedex kinkos around the corner on 125th. They would pack for $35. When I went back inside and asked to remove the items from the box and that I was taking my business elsewhere the price went back to 50$. I ended up paying because I was in a hurry. I was shipping these items back to a company I was employed. I needed an email receipt for expenses. They promised to send but never did. When I phoned today I was told they would not email the receipt and that I could come in and pay to use their computer to email it to myself (They have a half hour min). DO NOT EVER STEP INTO THIS STORE IT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. read more
