Forty five days later between interval iterations, I'm back at another Staples for printer ink cartridges. After reviewing previous reviews, this Staples location is exactly how described which prepared me to be in and out. I entered going to the lower level where the retail items are located. No comment for the shipping/ printing services as I did not utilized and have no immediate need. Customer service is attentive, efficient and welcoming as the cashier/server made many effort attempts to "price match" my printer ink cartridge attaining a lower possible price. I was prepared with my Staples loyalty rewards card and earned 67 points with this visited purchase. I purchased the combined black ink / color ink, ergo the price is exorbitant high. I have always suffered PSTD from the exorbitant high prices of printer ink cartridges experience the precipitous path years of financial incline. He suggested to return emptied/ used cartridges for recycling as a sustainable world which I admitted I "chuck" to discard such items for the inability to travel to the nearest Staples. While I've found Staples street level Copy Center here useful, the store in the basement is somewhere I only go when I absolutely need due to a time constraint. On those rare occasions when shopping there, (i.e., for a new laser printer/scanner a few years back,) the staff downstairs appeared less knowledgable and more useful to just ring you up or handle a return. Perhaps dominance of customers ordering and better deals online has reduced the need for greater knowledge on this Staples floor beyond being able to direct you to the appropriate aisle. Plus, there is a wealth of guidance/reviews about their products on the web. That being said, it's important to have a Staples like this relatively close by when an urgent need arrives for an office good like they stock. read more

After waiting online awhile for the one cashier, they call the manager, who says I could only 'get these online' or 'get one for $100'. Well these were fixed amount $200, the no-fee price is only in stores, and if you don't want to sell them (because of fraud issues or whatever) then TAKE THEM OFF THE RACK, there's no good reason to waste my time like that. I went to the Staples store #1117 located at 105 West 125th Street FRNT 1 Harlem, NY 10027 because I needed printing services with resume paper, and I can say Serenity who was dealing with multiple customers along a new employee went above and beyond. My file was corrupted and she tried her best to fix one of the documents I was printing and made sure that I would be happy with the quality of the printout and the look. Do not buy the apple headphones protection plan here, they are a scam. The person who I bought them from looked me in the eye and told me if these headphones broke I could take them in and replace them in store. This is not true, they make you wait A YEAR before they even consider repair requests and send you to a third party even then. When I made my move from LA to NYC, it proved to be a logistical challenge. Many of my old possessions I had back home were not practical in transporting. I was a bit surprised that this Staples has a complete shopping experience located downstairs. Having passed this location multiple times, I honestly thought the store consisted of the stuff on the first floor (e.g. shipping and copying centers). I guess that it never occurred to me to actually look inside of the store until my recent visit. I came here to get a simple item so my shopping experience was pretty basic. One of the cashiers quickly helped me find the item, and I was pleasantly surprised that the item was about $15 less that sticker price. I did not notice this until the sales associate rang up the item. SCORE! My only slight annoyance with my Staples experience was the "pressure" to purchase an insurance plan. Four times, I told the sales associate that I was not interested in purchasing an insurance package. Like, I'm going to spend $8 dollars on insurance for a $30 item. I'd probably end up losing the item before breaking it. Maybe the sales associates get extra compensation for selling insurance packages. read more

Customer service was better over the phone. Needed a duo power pack and they didn't have the kind that I wanted so I went in. First one I've been to that had an up and downstairs. Wasn't greeted upon entering and apparently neither was another customer who I heard yelling over my headsets. She needed some help in her aisle. Never saw that before. None of the staff looked friendly including the one who waited on me. When I got to the register, I entered my number thinking I was a member but she asked if I wanted to enter it again so she did. I wasn't found so I opted to join and she said she'd have to start the transaction over. Surprised she said that I said don't worry about it I'll do it next time. She said I could join online. I needed to print an image in the size of 24 x 36 inches, so I called the store's phone number to confirm whether or not they had the ability to print that size and was put on hold by 3 different people before the 4th person finally confirmed and told me that I could bring the file into the store via a flash drive. I proceeded to the store accordingly, stood in line until it was my turn, and eventually explained to Wilbur that I had called prior about printing my file. He said, "As you can see, we're very busy so I'm going to need a few minutes and then I can place your order." As a customer who already waited in line, I don't understand why he couldn't just place my order right there and then, but I simply asked him to tell me what he needed me to do. He then assisted the woman behind me and retreated to the printing area. After about 10 minutes of me standing there, the customer who he assisted before me returned and asked me if I was being helped (as she didn't want to skip me again), and I explained that I was still waiting. The line had grown to a few people at that point and people were becoming agitated. Wilbur came back as a result, had me follow him to the printing area, pull up my file on the computer, moved a copy of it to the folder it needed to go in, and then explained that he needed to ring me up. I asked if I could see the outcome before I paid for it in case there was a smudge or anything of the sort. He gave an explanation that implied that I could do so once I returned with my order slip. He then explained that he needed some personal information to complete the order, and as he turned the screen to show me the monitor, it cut off. Waiting for him to fiddle with it and get it back up, the keyboard then stopped working. After more fiddling, he explained that is going to be $37 and change, and asked how I'd like to pay, to which I told him that I thought he said I could pay for it after seeing that it came out alright. He explained that if I ordered it in the store, I would have to pay before seeing it, but if I ordered it online, they would print it and I would be able to see it before paying for it when I came to pick it up. It was also explained to me that I wouldn't be able to get my item until the next day despite how simple the image was (a few words) since the order queue was so long. Given everything that had happened up until that point, I asked him to cancel the order. If I knew it would have been this difficult and time consuming to print something in that store while experiencing such poor customer service, I would have simply stayed home and have Vistaprint/Print Runner/etc print it for me and send it to my home for less money. read more

But when it comes to your shipping and printing needs the representatives upstairs are the best. They are always available and helpful. If I could give them 0 star rating I would. Poor customer service. Staff standing around and the store is packed because it's back to school. I ordered online and went to pick up. As advertised it should have taken an hour to be available for pickup it wasn't. Now the place where you should pick up your order was empty not one staff member. Here's why the one star. I'm a long time resident. A Harlemite and proud of it. When major business began their slow ascend to the hood, on a positive note folks said great, now we don't have to go down town. Many of us were and are still happy Staples came passed 86th street, that Kinkos/Fed Ex followed. Yes, I don't have to go downtown. I just walk a couple of blocks, get a little work out on and be happy with the errands I've accomplished. Yes? Well maybe. Today, like so many other days at Staples, the self service machines were a mess. Only one working and one gentleman decided to do his entire life span of pay stubs, money order receipts, ID's, and items I can't bother to elaborate on, this day. And there one Staples employee basically made the copies for him as he shuffled through piles of paper. When I arrived, one older gentleman was waiting. Who knows how long. I sat and waited fifteen minutes before I decided to try Kinkos/Fed Ex. One things to know about the convenience of using your ATM/Credit Card on the self service copy machines at Kinkos/Fed Ex: you are charged an additional 1.00 surcharge. I accumulated three over draft fees for those sneaky surcharges before I realized where they were coming from. Since that time, I ask the one of the workers to make the copies for me. But today, there was some new kid, who did not honor my request. I told him about the surcharge. He said he did not know and didn't budge. So I left and walked back to Staples. Folks are you keeping with the time? Back at Staples, the man with his life in the hands of a Staples employee is still shuffling away, the old an is still there waiting as there are three other individuals. The street level where the copy service/fax/printing is is packed. The employees in the in the service area are quite of the madness of the line that's building but do nothing. You walk over and ask if they can make one copy for you and they tell you that they have orders to do. No one is asking them to stop what they're doing but it seems clearing up the congestion is not that important. Finally me and one woman go over and speak to someone. He tells us that the color machine is working. I ask him if I would have to pay for the price of a color if all I want is b/w. He says yes. I ask him can he do something given that so many people of waiting. He says no. Frustrated, we go down to the manager who does not make eye contact with us (BAD MANAGERIAL SKILLS) and just tells us that the workers upstairs have orders to do. Again, we ask if they are aware that the customers are waiting and are not being to be do what they classify as self service. He sends up someone to help us. It sucks to have to bitch. It really sucks to have to bitch about low grade service at a place you were once happy about coming to the 'hood'. We get out copies. The folks upstairs now have an attitude with us. They do the transaction with the woman I went downstairs with. They leave the register once I'm there and make me wait (passive aggressive bull*^%!) I pay my .66 cents (yup. all that for 5 copies + tax) Time spent in Staples to make 5 copies: close to 45 minutes. I'm sorry but this would not happen downtown. Not ever. Alas, the reason an unlimited Metrocard still goes a long way. read more

Second experience at this location. After reading my previous review on Google, I should have known better. Not much has changed. Still takes 2 days for "same day service" on business cards. Received my order yesterday and it was printed on the wrong stock. Going back today to get another 1000 business cards on the right stock. All in all, 3 days for "same day service." Yesterday, I was given an apology and told my cards would be ready by noon the following day. Staples opens at 9am. This location has two floors, the UPS and USPS and print center are all on the first floor and the office supplies are located downstairs. My boyfriend and I went to Staples Copy and Print to collect some postcards we had made. We used the online website to order the prints which was nice as that meant that we only had to go to the store for pick up. When we called to check that we could do this, the person on the other side was nice and helpful. When we went to the store the next day for pick-up we were helped by one of the assistants who was very friendly and helpful (I think his name was Joshua), so that was pleasant. The only one negative thing is that the quality of the paper used for the 50 cards we had printed was not entirely consistent. Some postcards were thicker than others, as postcards should be, which was preferable, but for most of them the paper/card used was quite thin - closer to being a photograph/flyer than a postcard. read more

Stopped into m local staples to buy a desk chair. I researched www.staples.com to pick out three chairs, you know you should always have a "Plan B" when dealing with a large chain. My local store is a two level stores. Upstairs there is the copy service, internet service and downstairs is the main store. I go downstairs and search for the chair section, so I could have a look before asking for help. I look up and down the endless rows of product only to find out there is no such "section" when asked if I need help. So I tell the associate who asks me if I need help what I'm looking for. He tells me that the offerings in the "weekly ad" doesn't necessarily reflect what's offered in each store. And that the two of the items I'm interested in are not sold in this store but downtown. WTF?? I was like that makes no sense, yet it's not his fault. He takes me upstairs and tell me, "I don' have any of the items you're interested in but I do have a cheaper chair". Cheap is what I want; I'm interested in quality. Lucky for him they had a chair that I could work with. I didn't want a chair with arms, and since this it was self-assembly item I would assemble without the arms. Although, I wasn't please that staples didn't have what I wanted and was "short" with the associate that helped me, I have to say he was pleasant and pretty knowledgeable of the chair. He set it aside and so that I didn't have to drag it downstairs and back up. The check out area is a pain. There is a line of 10 people and only two cashiers. This area of the store was not planned very well. Both cashiers had "attitude" although neither a match for mine! If you don't want my experience my wrath, then act as if you have an ounce of common sense and you want your job. I don't need to hear about your personal business, I just want you to acknowledge me by saying "hello", ring up my items, accept my form of payment and say "thank you" when my transaction is complete. When you give me attitude and "lip" and roll your eyes at me because you're not a professional, I'll embarrass your ass - so cashiers, bone up on your skills, you are the face of your business and no matter how great a product selection you have, service is more important. This could be a decent store with some front line customer service training, better product selection along with better coordination with tv/internet advertised products. I sent a letter to corporate about my experience so I hope that the regional and general manager of this location take customer comments seriously! NOTE: I would have given them a three if they had my item in stock, but the check out experience was a lasting moment. read more

This review is specifically for the print and copy center at this location. I went to the "self-service" area to print 2 copies of a 2 page resume in color on resume paper for a job interview. Sounds simple enough. The customer service rep advised me to go to the self-service computer and print from there instead of going straight to the cashier with the request, so that the documents could be printed from there. Meanwhile, he would get the resume paper. Even though it was $0.30 per minute to use the computer, I figured it wouldn't take long. Document was pulled up fairly easily on a fairly new version of internet explorer (not Google Chrome, but still efficient enough) and the computer did not charge for the time it took to start up Windows, which was nice. The problem occurred after the document was ready to print, when the customer service rep. was bombarded by about 10 people regarding how to use the so-called "self-service" equipment, such as the copiers, printers and computers. I remained patient hoping he would come back soon. When I realize that he won't be back after a few minutes, I try to print it myself in color but I got a printing error for the default color printer. I am fairly computer savvy, but due to the first error which charged my credit card $4.31, I didn't want to chance another printing error so I waited. I ask another service rep. for assistance after about 5 more minutes but am told that only one person was assisting in the area, and that he tell the original customer rep to come over. 5 minutes after that conversation, I approach the swamped but friendly customer service rep. who informs me that he can help. I say to call off the resume paper and ask for two colored copies. He prints them and refunds me the extra minutes I spent waiting and also for the printing error that was attempted. Apparently, they had two colored printers available, but one wasn't working. There was no indication of that at all. By this point, I just had to say something regardless because the system was so inefficient. When asking the manager as to why there was only one person helping, he replied that the purpose of the self-service area was for people to use it without help. My question is....if there are no clear instructions as to which printer works and which one doesn't, no instructions regarding special printing procedures, and the only answers lie in an ambitious, yet overworked employee, how can that be called self-service? Meanwhile, Staples is profiting off this inefficiency by charging people who most likely don't have a computer at home, a whopping $0.30 a minute! Talk about ripping off people who already have it rough. Make the so-called "self-service" center more user friendly to promote a more independent and productive work area. Next time, I'm just buying a printer and some ink and calling it a day. read more

People are not lying when they say this is one of the worst places to go if you actually want anything right or on time. The lines are always long, the employees are totally unhelpful, and nothing ever works. Pay for same day printing? Too bad, the machines broke and nobody bothered to call you and let you know before you came in. Want to mail some packages? Oops, the printing machines are broken so you'll need to walk a few aves over to the post office (worth it, its big and clean and functional!). Its clear they don't have the resources to run this place or the equipment properly. Given the clear high volume and need of the community for these services, it would really behoove Staples to get this store in order. read more
