My previous review was 1 star for good reasons, and for equally good reasons I'm giving this update to a full 5 stars. I stayed away for a while, and then had to use the store (Amazon is a cruel but fair mistress) a few times. It was... delightful?! The staff were kind and helpful both for me and for other customers. On the second or third visit I was informed that they have a new manager (it's a small town, so they knew who I was), and apparently that's what they needed. I admit I'm still a touch sheepish coming in, given my previous interactions and review, but yeah, what a turnaround. Kudos! read more

A most amazing thing happened here one very busy day before the holidays-- long line against the door, people dragging their boxes on the floor, and only one person working the whole store! Behind the counter was Lisa, (I believe she's manager now?) who with the quietest of looks communicated to everyone waiting that we would get our turn. Her attention was 100% focused on the customer in front of her and addressing every question competently and warmly. Observing each interaction, I kept thinking, this is what quality educators do, or health care workers who earn the confidence of each patient because they're respectful and know what it is to provide "care". I waited a long time, but I left that store so inspired that this one beam of dignified humanity could be seen shining in such an unlikely place- the local UPS store. I look forward to every visit! Went into the Port Townsend UPS store to return Amazon items. The folks there know what they are doing! FAST doesn't come close with great attitudes to boot. The store isn't open until when it says it is. The staff stop working around 45 minutes to 30 minutes before closing and then will not take any other orders. Instead of closing up after doors close, they effectively close before their closing hours. Useful to know if you've got a late afternoon, urgent task. read more

A nice shiny UPS store with TERRIBLE SERVICE. We shipped a baby shower gift to friends near Anacortes. My wife was in a hurry to get it in the mail so she paid the store to package it. Shipping and packaging cost $70 for a 20"x12"x12" light weight box! Half of that was the cost of the box and tape. Then UPS failed to deliver the package. My wife shipped it with signature required to protect against porch pirates. UPS put a note on the door asking the recipient to either sign the posted note and place it back on the door, or come and pick up the package. The note, and UPS procedures we found out later, said that they would come back and check 3 times. Our friends signed the note the same day and put it back on the door to accept shipment. UPS never came back. They sent the package back and said that the receiver refused receipt! My wife had to deliver the package herself, driving to Anacortes. We tried working with the store to get our money back for the shipment UPS never made. The Port Townsend UPS store called UPS at the delivery location and confirmed that they never came back to the house after posting the note. But then the PT UPS store refused to refund our money. They just kept giving us the run around saying they would call back and never would, saying they would followup and never doing so. They told us it would take several weeks to get a refund because it had to come from UPS corporate, etc. etc. but they had no intention of doing anything about it. We will never use this UPS store again! Do yourself a favor and use the other place in Port Townsend that ships packages, up on the top of the hill on Sims way. Their store is not as new and shiny, but they do a much better job! read more

Went into the ups store today and the guy helping me was very nice and helpful. However, the manager left while there was a line to the door and no other employees in the store. It was an hour before closing and the employee was trying to ask him questions about how he could lock up the store properly without having keys to which the manager replied "you'll figure it out". It's a real bummer to see employees being treated poorly especially in this job market. read more

We have used the services of the PT UPS store for decades. It is now the month of December 2022 and it is an extremely busy time of year. The staff at this location does a wonderful job taking care of their customers....in particular, Cordys and Mikela (unsure of the correct name spelling). They are ALWAYS polite and helpful and greet folks with a smile even at the end of a long day with boxes piled high. This location is very busy as many of us live in the country and receive our mail in town. Also, there are no stores to buy things here as you would find in Seattle, so I believe a higher percentage of PT residents online shop and use Amazon at a higher rate than more populated areas which increases the work at this UPS store. As a professional manager, it is obvious to me that the owners need to add more workers per shift and find a location that has adequate room for the volume of business that this store does. I would also imagine all employees deserve a raise...it is the best way for them to feel valued. I must say, the owners have hired very well in terms of getting folks who are efficient, know what they are doing, and are consistently pleasant and smiling, always. These folks more than deserve recognition and a bonus would be nice. The staff works VERY hard to take care of your customers and you, the owners, need to take care of them. Value them so that you will continue to keep employees like Cordys and Mikela and the rest of the team who do such a good job for you! read more

Wow- RUN away. I rent these mailboxes all over the country, because I am a merchant mariner and it allows me to receive packages when I pull into port, temporarily. It also allows me to have a central delivery point for shipments which (in theory) I can have forwarded to me on my ship while away. I only have sporadic email availability to communicate with these companies, which makes, consistent and reliable information from the shipper SO important. This was easily the worse experience I have ever had, anywhere, ANY time. I would put the burden of the incredibly poor service on whoever owns this franchise. I spent WEEKS and MULTIPLE emails BEGGING the folks there to simply REPLY to my emails. You have no idea how frustrating it is to be isolated at sea on a ship virtually BEGGING your mailbox service to simply respond to your emails so that I could have my prescriptions and important tax documents forwarded to me. I got a combination of NO responses and/or the basic; "Sorry we're really busy", spaced out over days and or weeks. When they did finally get around to forwarding me some mail, they of course, sent me the wrong tracking number so I was unable to follow the delivery. They of course never got back to me with the CORRECT number which I also BEGGED them for. This store is undermanned, the employees are poorly trained and constantly overwhelmed. I actually went in on two occasions while in port and overheard customers repeatedly being told they'd have to write to the owner or check back for basic answers to their shipping and rental needs after "we check on that". Geez- I knew the answers to most of these basic questions, having used the same franchise in multiple other cities. I requested the name of the owner of the store at least a dozen times and the employees there made it a point to simply not reply or tell me then "Get back to me", but of course never did. It's obvious to me the owner is an absentee owner, or is selling the store, or completely lost interest in managing it properly, for god knows what reason. I can't think of a more horrifically bad customer service experience then this UPS franchise. To the owner- You sir or ma'am, are a coward, hiding behind the protection of your uninformed customers and I hope this review saves at least one other human being from going through the incredible frustration and costs I went through as a result of your pathetic business practices and non existent management processes. read more

I run a small jewelry business from home, and only use UPS to send my orders to clients. Since we were traveling, I found this location. They were very friendly and answered any questions we had. Was able to send all my packages. Social distancing was practiced and masks were required. I recommend this place of business to any one. read more

RUN AWAY! This particular UPS place is a thorough mess. Nice store, safe location, clean, big enough - BUT THE STAFF are horrid. This is the third time in a row that I have been treated rudely, a long wait, clearly a bunch of trainees who don't know what they are doing (the young, also surely-inexperienced "manager" was there this last time and it was no better.) This last time, I waited a very long time. All registers were in use by several people, and at least 6 staff members were in the front. All seemed to be printing to the SAME PRINTER, making them wait in line to get the tag and receipt for you. It was really absurd. I was assisted in good and caring fashion - in particular, he chose a bubble pack that was just the right size so as to avoid any extra shipping charge. When I asked for some insight about tracking my ups package, and help locating it, I was told my package is currently nowhere...I showed the employee the tracking number on the ups website indicating that my package had an arrival scan in Port Townsend at 8am that day. They seemed annoyed and replied "We're not a UPS store, we can't help you..." I could have sworn the sign I walked under when I entered the store said "The UPS Store"? Sucks. I mailed a package that after many months was listed by UPS by its tracking number as "lost." Do you think I ever received the guaranteed $100 for the loss? Well, an employee at the store, a new manager, after the store had gone many months without a manager for some reason, checked and saw in the computer that the store had received the money. Well, I didn't hear from anyone there that it had, and they didn't send the check to me. The new manager said he would contact the local franchise owner. She never contacted me either. Zero stars if I could. Worst customer service of all time. Packed an expensive ceramic item poorly, and item arrived trashed as a result. UPS HQ approved our insurance claim, and ever since January (two months!!) they've been dodging both our calls and the UPS HQ calls (I'm guessing because they want to keep the check- shady!!) what kind of franchise with horrible customer service is this? Wish I could give them no stars, we have not been treated very nice since Audrey retired last year and we are long time customers since 2007. Audrey, Steve and Lynn were always very nice and a pleasure to work with no matter how busy they were. The new owners have not been very pleasant to deal with to say the least. We have our mail forwarded to us and we have had some mail that was not ours not a big we just drop it back in the mail. We got our mail today and it was all someone else's so I called the store to let them know and what would they like me to do with the other persons mail, I was told to bring it back in I advised the lady that they forward our mail to us and that I was in Arizona so what did she like me to do with the person mail and were was my mail. At this point I was told they were busy and to call back tomorrow and talk to Casey. Not a way to build your business. read more

The Port Townsend UPS store has been independent and locally owned since 1994. In a town which *detests* chain stores, this independence is an important factoid...Audrey Olner (the manager) is onsite on a daily basis; her smile and creativity in packaging help to make this waterfront store an integral part of the PT business community. I purchased a large oval framed photograph from the Antique Mall several years ago. I never hung it in our Port Townsend home as it just seemed like it would be much treasured by the inhabitants of our Caifornia digs, Casa Canine. Yep...it was a photo of a dog circa 1920. So....I took it to Audrey who promptly and carefully packaged it, and placed it in the outgoing UPS shipment. Sure enough...the photograph arrived two days later...the same day that my plane landed at SFO. The packaging, insurance and postage for my photo was amazingly cheap. And the package arrived in perfect shape, whereas I was pinched, cinched and clinched into one of those commercial commuter flights and did not fare as well. The next time I'm heading out from PT to SFO, I'm going to have Audrey package *me* in a suitable container. WIll save me a bundle on my own plane fare. Enough to buy yet another bauble for the hounds of Casa Canine! read more

Customer service has left the building. Have not been impressed for a few years but recent visit was bizarre. Went there to ship a package and followed through in spite of my overwhelming desire to leave and take it to the P,O, Something is very off. Two employees behind the counters and no other customers and they weren't doing anything, but neither would acknowledge my presence. Once I managed to get the process moving along it got weirder yet - she obviously did not want to interact with anyone and would stand there in a fog until a supervisor would happen by and move her onto the next phase of the transaction. They had a shipping supply item I have been looking for and would love to have but will live without it - absolutely will not buy it there and most likely not ship anything from there ever again. read more

The comfortable, local, customer experience is starting to slip fairly rapidly. Since a new owner took over a few months ago, almost all of the previous very friendly employees like Sandy (and Audrey, retired) are gone for one reason or another, replaced by competent "strictly business" folks who may or may not live around here because they don't seem to have a feel for the comfortable vibe it used to have. Maybe they're nervous about having cameras watching them from all angles (see below). No more slow-period swapping pics and talk about our dogs, town events or much of anything besides shipping and receiving. There are now cameras EVERYWHERE - at least 6 or 8 that can be counted from the main floor (no telling how many are hidden or in the back room) and they are capable of capturing audio as well as video, so don't be planning any bank heists there! It's hard to tell if the owner doesn't trust his customers, his employees, or both. Did he used to operate a ghetto convenience store in a past life? Plenty more bureaucracy, too; now everything has to be signed for, even if we have to wait a bit to get that done - does this new guy think this is Chicago or Compton or something? Having been a customer for many years, I've never heard of any package ending up in the wrong hands except by accident, followed by correcting the error. Not that long ago, long-time regular customers could just come in and if the place was jammed and full of lines (like before Christmas), could go to the shelf to retrieve our own package and be on our way with a "thank you" - saving time for both customer and employee. It's now like the Post Office or the DMV - a cold, do-your-business-and-get-out sort of experience. Business is business, but this store has been here a long time and did just fine while making it an interesting and, if not too slammed, fun place to patronize. I hope this new guy and his crew can learn to just relax and try to enjoy their time at work while conveying that feeling to their customers as well. For sure, all the cameras show little respect for that sentiment. read more

I had a package that needed to be traced, he found it was in a warehouse back east instead of Edmonds. Thank goodness he got it rolling along again. 3 tries, 3 fails. As an artist, I ship lots of work and products, and on all three tries I have never been able to ship something here. Talk about unresponsive, these people couldn't even do the basics, to the point that, on all tries I just threw my hands in the air and walked out. Yesterday I tried one more time to just drop off a package that already had a shipping pickup label attached and paid for, and was told that because it had more than $1000 worth of insurance on it, they couldn't even touch it - and so I should just drive around, find a UPS truck and give it to them (there was one two blocks away and the driver was very helpful). There are other shippers in Port Townsend that are so friendly and helpful we've even had them over for dinner. I'd recommend using them - and don't ruin your day. The Port Townsend UPS store has changed since changing ownership. The prices for services have risen dramatically and I will no longer do business there. Both employees that had been there for years are gone. The security cameras are unfriendly. The store has lost its Port Townsend feel. read more

This UPS store will charge you $2.00 per 100 of declared value for "insurance". It is not insurance it is UPS standard declared value coverage. The problem is that UPS charges 90 cents per 100 dollars, less than half this amount. The store is pocketing the difference. I contacted UPS and received in an email that claimed that since the store is a franchise, they can charge whatever they want. From my point of view this is a scam. You price the shipping on the web and then go to the store and they charge nearly double the amount and assure you that these are "UPS" charges. Don't ship from this store! read more
