Went to The Upstairs Comedy Club last Friday with my wife and a colleague for the Casey Frey / Nick Colletti show and it absolutely delivered. You're right in it with the performers, which made the whole night feel properly fun. The crowd was up for it, the energy kept building. Drinks and service were smooth, and the whole experience just felt easy and well put together. One of those nights where you go in hoping for a few laughs and end up crying laughing. This review is for Saturday, 8/1/26....what a disappointment. The two stars are for the free parking, friendly staff, decent bathroom, and good AC. The lineup and head liner, Craig Robinson, seemed promising....sadly, that was not the case. We arrived at 7:25 PM (doors were supposed to be open at 7:15 PM). We were told to come back in 10-20 minutes. There was no line or people in sight. We went in close to 8:00 PM and in total we were about 15-20 people spread out in seats. There were probably like 200 seats plus booths. I looked at their IG page and this show was not promoted at all. By the end of the night I think only like 10-15 of us remained (including staff). The comedians really didn't seem like they wanted to be there and sadly Craig Robinson spent his entire set sitting at his keyboard playing random songs. He must have scrolled through his phone like 15x looking for jokes and nothing was landing. Every single comedian told D jokes, which I don't mind them here and there but it was excessive from all of them and just not landing with the 15 of us there. You just can't beat live comedy. They do it well here, too. They typically have a mixture of newer comics and 2-3 more known comics so you get a nice mix of sets. Obviously the menu isn't robust but it's a comedy club what do you expect? I highly recommend seeing a show here as it's one of the only places in LA that has street parking available. I came here for a comedy show for my friend & comedian Lil Rel. He started a comedy night on Tuesdays, and it was an absolute BALL! I was able to find street parking. There are some stairs to get up, but it was very spacious and had a lively ambiance! The comedians were hilarious, and I could definitely see myself coming on consistent Tuesdays with a lineup like that! It felt more underground than the more mainstream comedy spots, which was refreshing & felt like the comedians were hungrier! The service was great, but my only complaint would be a lack of food options. I believe they only had popcorn and perhaps a pretzel. That definitely wasn't sufficient for me for the time we were there! But food aside, it was a great spot and I definitely see myself returning! read more

The place is a dump, they don't let you in early to at least sit you down and enjoy some food or kick back. The food selection is horrible, they only have hard pretzels that might break a tooth, smelly cheese and some type of plastic sausage that doesn't look healthy at all. The drinks are ok but nothing I would brag about. At least the comedian we came to see was funny otherwise I would have rated even lower. Need new management here read more

Super sketch area (it is DTLA) BUT there is *free*parking around here or $10 in the lot. I would recommend parking on the street since the guy who came up to us in the lot was not there when we left. He told us that he would watch our car if we parked inside and I said "so if you see someone breaking into the car outside you would just let it happen "? Anyway... Show started around 8 ish and it wasn't a full house but that was good. Felt intimate like an old school comedy show (for those of us old enough to remember what that was like before comedians started doing shows in l a r g e arenas). Drinks were pricy (water=$9, Corona $11, mixed drinks $16+) and there is a 2 drink minimum. Popcorn, candy & pretzels available for $5 in case you have the munchies. Hidden Gem Alert! I've been really drawn to comedy shows lately -- I mean, who doesn't need a laugh these days, right? And let me tell you... this spot is truly a hidden gem. It's located upstairs, super spacious inside, and there's plenty of street parking (a rare blessing!). They haven't been open long, but they're already pulling in big names -- they even had Dave Chappelle here! Sadly, those tickets sold out in seconds so I didn't make it, but the fact that he performed in such an intimate setting says everything. The vibe is cozy, welcoming, and perfect for a night of good laughs. They offer a few snacks now, and after chatting with the owner, they mentioned they're working on expanding their food options -- which I'm genuinely excited for. I came here for a secret comedy show for Max Amini (who I've been following for a while) and had such a great experience! I hadn't heard of this place before, but later found out it's a fairly new spot. Comedy clubs are one of my favorite things to check out, so it's always exciting to discover a new location. The venue itself is super clean, spacious, and well laid out--you can see the stage clearly from just about anywhere you sit. The air conditioning works perfectly (huge plus for a packed comedy show), and there's tons of street parking nearby which makes coming here really easy. Currently, they don't serve food, but they do offer a nice variety of drinks. We also noticed they had snacks available, though they weren't listed on the menu so we didn't check them out. Our waitress was AMAZING. Attentive, personable, and just so sweet. I wish I wrote down her name! Overall, the vibe is great, and I'll definitely be back for more shows! read more

Great club with fantastic servers! Good variety of Comedians however some have shown up one too many times. New jokes are always the best jokes Crowd is usually respectful of their peers but sometimes you get one jackass. Its a nice venue, lots of space, dark ambiance. Maybe some cocktail tables in back would be nice? Definitely need more variety of snacks. Asia (sorry if i misspelled her name) is always the sweetest and most welcoming to all guests. The surrounding area of this place is extremely sketchy, and only a mile and a half away from Skid Row. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and be alert. The actual venue itself is beautiful and modern. Restrooms were clean. The drinks were good, too. I hesitate to do a full recommendation, because of the location. It's one of the few places there that's actually open. Surrounding buildings are boarded up. Visit with caution. read more

Been here twice. First time was okay, drinks were good and they allowed me to Uber Eats some food into the establishment, since food isn't sold here. Ended up ordering some pizza and wings, to enjoy the comedians. Second time was a little better, hence the 4 stars. I think this place would be an amazing 5 star location, if they sold food. Customer service is okay, and they only had 1 server on hand. I wish they would have closed the rear windows by the reserved tables, it was raining and the back of my neck was getting wet. We came here for a friend's birthday and had a great time. We knew we would be drinking so we took an Uber here. It was easy to find and we went straight upstairs to find our seats. We arrived early enough to chat with friends and order a drink before the show started. We sat a couple rows back, and enjoyed the show. We were cracking up the whole time and really enjoyed all the comics. There was a great variety of comedy styles and jokes, so everyone in our group enjoyed the show. Service was very attentive and friendly, which is always appreciated during a show. This is a great spot if you're looking for a fun night out in the DTLA area or something different after work with some friends. At night there should be parking nearby, but it's an easy Uber after dinner. Definitely check it out if you're looking for a fun new spot! Cheers! read more

Went to go see Rene Vaca last weekend. Show was awesome. Knock a few stars off for the service of the bar it took a while to get a check, get drinks and they forgot my food. Automatic 20% gratuity for everything for crappy service. Also it took 40 mins to get seated. But the worst part of the venue is the split ac unit on top of your head. I was freezing and it was very uncomfortable to sit there the entire night. read more

I had a pleasure of attending this comedy club with My Wife over the weekend. I couldn't believe the ambience, the fun and the joy of simply being there. My wife and I kept laughing and laughing all night. It truly was awesome! I was raised in Downton LA and growing up had anybody told me that I would one day be right in the middle of it attending a comedy club I would never have believed that myself!??!!! What an incredible blessing to actually be there!! I felt very safe in the area. There's plenty of security plenty of parking plenty of everything we needed to make our experience wonderful. They check everyone's ID like all normal 21+ establishments and had your standard 2 drink minimum which is awesome because who wants to be there around psychos and crazy folks. Loved it! Get ready to have a great night! Seats: nice not seated like sardines (like other clubs) there's plenty of space for you to sit comfortably and stretch your legs out. You'll also see the comedians up close from all sections. There's also nice booths for larger parties. Parking: free on the street or there's a small lot a few doors down $10. I've seen more than 20 shows in this comedy club since they opened this year. Def my fav spot! Very intimate so the possibility of interacting w your fav comedian is very high! Seen dave chapelle, maz jobrani, max amini, nate jackson, tiffany haddish, brad williams, deon cole, and so many more big comedians here! Free street parking *with prayers bc it's dtla* or 10$ in the lot. They serve alchoholic and non alchoholic drinks, no food but they serve pocpcorn, pretzels and candies. read more

OMG, we went here hoping for a good time and had THE worst time EVER. First, we had to stand outside for about 45 minutes with no explanation. Secondly, after being inside we had to sit for another 40 minutes waiting for the show to start. Thirdly, the drinks were horrendous tasting. Then came the show. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW FUCKING AWFUL IT WAS! That place by far was the worst comedy show experience ive ever had. It was truly abominable and people were just walking out as did we. Horrible, Terrible and Pathetic is being nice! I was on a date and it was so thoroughly embarrassing. read more
