Pat, the owner was working the bar with the staff and easily recommended the best local beer I had not tasted. ((My GF and I had tried 1812 and Penn but had not tried Lexington's Vanilla Stout. I was amazed.)) If you're in Garret county, or anywhere near the border to WV or PA, you're doing yourself a disservice by not visiting Oakland, MD and dropping by this spot. Finally got to stop into Vagabond for a beer after wanting to for last several summers. Sat at cute bar & had a tasty black IPA. They also have wine. They have food, but we didn't partake. They are directly connected (walkway inside) to Shoofly Java next door, a coffee shop. They have small tables & a selection of merch. There is also umbrella table sidewalk seating (unfortunately it was raining when we stopped by). Definitely worth it if you're looking for a craft beer and bite in Oakland, Md or a quick 15-20 min drive from Deep Creek Lake area. read more

Definitely not my speed in general - more for the drinks than the food, which we weren't aware and came for dinner. Again - my review is primarily on the food we did get bc if I reviewed on my actual experience as a non "hops-head" it would be lower. Ordered a meatball sandwich and green beans. The bread the sandwich was made of was dry and stale, and it was cut all the way through so the meatballs needed a vice to keep them inside the two sides Green beans were the best part. I ate here a couple months ago while traveling for work, and it still sticks out to me as a particularly cool spot with fantastic food. I got the Jalalepño Boats and the Pulled Pork in Cornbread Bowls. Everything was great, but the Jalapeño Boats/Blueberry sauce they came with were especially delicious. I think it was one of the best dishes I've had anywhere and I mean that wholeheartedly. Will definitely be coming back if I'm ever in the area again! read more

This is a difficult one for me because they've got the right idea at Vagabond yet, in this reviewers opionion, they're just not quite there yet. As a long-time vegetarian who LOVES craft beer, finding the two under one roof is a gift. So I was super-excited to find Vagabond when researching healthy food options to try during our visit to Deep Creek. First impressions were great: outdoor seating - check; live entertainment - check; good beer selection - check; friendly service - double check. Vagabond offers a fun rotating beer selection: a lot of NEIPAs at the time of our visit (June 2021), but also hard selzers, sours and lighter ales that are prefect for warmer weather. So there's nothing to complain about there. Now, about the food. It's clear they've put a lot of thought in to the menu. It reads really well, but sadly the kitchen missed the mark during our visit. My Portabello "Steak" and Cheese was uncooked (what happened to the "bake" on those mushrooms - a trip through the salamander to melt the cheese doesn't mean its baked) and served on a stale roll; the side of steak fries were undercooked and so salty they were close to indedible. My husband failed to read the descrption and was surprised that his Chicken Pot Pie (which left him hungry) was actually a chicken filling topped with a fluffy buttermilk biscuit. It was tasty but should probably be listed as Chicken & Biscuit to avoid confusion as I note other reviewers have mentioned this. The Blistered Green Beans were the highlight of our meal and I'm so glad we got those because the dipping sauce saved my dry sandwich (it sooo needed a schmear of something). This place could be a real gem IF they can get these kind of kinks worked out. Perhaps its time for the owners to spend more time coaching the cooks. I hope they do because they are THIS close to awesomeness. I'm pulling for Vagabond 100% because we need more taprooms offering healthy options. read more

Headed to Vagabond with my family this evening, we were a large group but were able to get three tables next to each other. Unfortunately Vagabond was out of several of the drinks and appetizers we requested from the menu, but the ones we did receive were good. I ordered the Italian salad without pepperoni and as a vegetarian was disappointed when it arrived with chicken in it (which was not included in the description). My brother also found a hair in their food, the kitchen offered to make him a new meal which he declined, and they did remove it from the bill. Those who got their correct meals did enjoy them, although they were not very filling. My aunt has been here before and really enjoyed her experience, so tonight may have been a one off. read more
