Firstly, I wasn't sure there was a movie theatre this far out in the valley. Score! My Gen-Z 12yr old, mentioned it looked old as soon as we entered the parking lot. Lol you know them! Valley Cinema shares a large parking lot with Walmart, and the Entertainment Fun Center. So...it IS old inside, but we were there to watch a horror film, who cares?! Staff were welcoming and efficient enough. We were there for a matinee showing and the cost of tix + concession food was noticeably low. I did wish they sold hot dogs. Most games in the arcade were non-working. Restaurant/cafe was closed. Lots of theatre rooms...all very old and worn (no leather recliners in sight) but the picture, sound, lighting all fine. We came at the end of the night and it was empty... and needed a good cleaning. Overall, we got ourselves in on an I-Pad.. and found our way to the theatre, so literally a ghost town. We had an extremely frustrating experience at Valley Cinema that completely ruined what was supposed to be a special family night. We arrived at 4:00 PM to see the showing of David and had already purchased our tickets online. At the ticket stand, we were told we needed to go to concessions to get paper tickets. When we went to concessions, they questioned why we were told that at all and said digital tickets work just fine. This confusion alone caused delays. We had a group of 14 people, including many young children. By the time we were finally allowed into the theater, there were only scattered single seats available, which obviously doesn't work with a large group and kids. We spoke to the manager, who gave us emergency passes and told us to return for the 7:00 PM showing. To avoid another issue, we arrived early at 6:00 PM to make sure we could all sit together. We were never told we needed to exchange the emergency passes for regular tickets. The ticket stand was unattended (which seems normal for this theater), so we waited until the theater opened and were able to seat all nine children (ages 9 and under) together in one row. My mom and I stepped out briefly to get concessions. When we returned, we were stopped and told the emergency tickets "wouldn't work" and that we needed actual tickets. At that point, we were told there were only 8 tickets left, meaning our group could not attend the movie again and would have to come back another day. After being put through this twice in one evening due to staff miscommunication and poor management, we requested a refund. The manager told us they do not do refunds at all, only that we had three months to use the tickets. This was especially disappointing because my parents came from out of town, and we had arranged for multiple families and children to come together for a special night. We had to tell the kids twice that we couldn't see the movie due to issues completely out of our control. This situation was handled very poorly from start to finish. Clear communication, basic customer service, and accountability were completely lacking. read more

It's a cinema, the movie played and they served popcorn....1 star. However, this place is absolutely filthy! Shame on you Valley Cinema! I visited a 1:30pm showing and there is no way this level of filth resulted from one previous movie, unless it was Animal House and there was audience food fight participation. I get it, it's hard to find anyone willing to work. That said, if you can't provide a somewhat descent clean environment for your patrons to watch a movie maybe it's time to limit your services to a more manageable size. read more

Bathroom was clean and well stocked, however handicapped door was missing lock on and the purse hanger was pulled off door Staff at counter were friendly and fast Theater needs to have a deep cleaning. The Valley's only cinema, we've always received great service, and Valley audiences are among the most courteous. Post pandemic has been problematic for most businesses trying to keep young workers, and people slowed their attendance (which I'm sure cuts deeply into their revenue). Well the movie theater could be cleaner, but if there's multiple movies showing every day maybe a vacuum cleaner between movies. And cleaning of chairs a couple times per day. I appreciate that the Movie Staff treated my husband and I with respect and kindness. The concession stand prices are expected but not beyond purchasing an ice bag of popcorn and a large drink and not spent 50$ yet. We did recently see the Mission Impossible movie and the sound effects could have been turned down at least a notch or two. The movie itself spent 22-44 million dollars to make, the soundtrack/sound effects were amazing we all don't need to go deaf. Since we've all been watching lots of movies at home I am appreciative of a business who's still trying to bring entertainment to the people living here in Alaska. And I support local businesses. The tickets are easy to get. There are no long lines, and the people there are always friendly and welcoming to those enjoying an afternoon or evening out. There are matinee's and on Tuesday that's 5.00$ a person which is super reasonable when you are on a budget, got a large group or family, that's a value of reasonable entertainment price while trying to live and work here in Alaska. So reasonable prices especially on Tuesday, nice staff, reasonable price for a bag of popcorn and a large drink. Really my only issue was a bit cleaner movie theater. Thank you Valley Cinema for being a local business serving the Matnuska Valley Community. Maybe a "go fund us" -if your business needs several new vacuum cleaners, and soap/ buckets for keeping the Theater a bit fresher. Or maybe a small fund raiser or something! read more

I'm actually pretty impressed with this place. I've seen four or five movies now and finally went to see one of their "flashback movies." Flashback movie you say?!? Throughout each month, this cinema shows movies long since taken from the theatre. Tonight I saw "Back to the Future" which is one of my favorite movies. Since it came out the year I was born, I've never seen it in theaters. So glad I got to see it in one. Staff is friendly, prices are normal (and sometimes better than normal) and the seating is stadium style. They also employ quite a few high school students so I get to see my students nearly every time I see a movie. The theaters are clean, smell fine, and have more than decent sound quality. read more

The only reason this place got a star is because they show current movies. This place is ridiculously filthy. Even when they have just a few people in attendance, they don't take the time to clean up the floors or counters where you pay/purchase food items. Our shies literally stuck to the floor where we were seated. I jad to clean my shoes when i got home. No cleaning between movies of any kind. I noticed this same problem back in August, and it has not improved in the slightest...actually worse. I'd be ashamed if I were the manager of this place. read more

This theatre has unfortunately gone downhill. The sound system is poor. Recently went to see Black Adam and it was very difficult to hear the acting over the music. I don't have a hearing impediment. There have been times where they could only accept cash and had very very little food available. I'd prefer driving to Anchorage if I'm going to spend that amount of money. We had a great experience at Valley Cinema. It's was a weeknight, so not very crowded. Typical prices as far as theatres go these days. The customer service was excellent, everyone we came in contact with. We happen to be out in Wasilla, running an errand, so it was convenient to see a show. I'm sure we will go out there for a movie again, seeing that it's pretty close to the same distance driving from Chugiak to Wasilla or Anchorage. read more

I have no problem watching movies at this theater over the IMAX in Anchorage. In my opinion that IMAX isn't even a true IMAX experience anyway (but this review isn't about them). The Valley Cinema is clean and comfortable. There's hardly ever any lines at the ticket counter and the lobby is small so it discourages pre-teens from hanging around and making a ruckus before or after a film. There's a small arcade and a "bistro" where you can sit down and eat if you want to kill some time though. The Backstage Bistro has a pretty impressive menu. It doesn't look like they have a real kitchen so I'm assuming most of their food is just heated up like most other concession stand items. I still got a decent Philly Cheesesteak w/ fries ($10) and an Indian Valley Reindeer Sausage w/ fries ($7). You can also get Alcohol but if you want to drink during a movie, it's only allowed after 7 or 9pm and only in theater 6. On tap they have Blue Moon Belgium White, Heineken, Coors Light, and a Glacier Brewhouse Amber, IPA and Hefeweizen. They've also got a few wines too. I got a tiny White Zinfandel for $4 that I ended up regretting. Seats are super comfortable, audio is great, and all theaters have made full conversion to digital projection so picture quality is great. So impressed that my little hometown has a movie theater it can be proud of. read more

This theater has been a convenience over the past necessity to travel to Anchorage for a decent theater experience. As it is relatively new, it's clean and comfortable. There's a restaurant "experience" within the theater, so if you didn't get a chance to eat before you arrive, it's a chance to get a reasonably priced fast food type meal. The theaters are all digital that I've seen, so the quality of the movies are top notch. The sound is crisp--no static sounds. Tickets are purchasable online, however there's a convenience fee involved, so if you want to save a couple bucks, buy your tickets at the counter. It's rarely there is a wait. We went to The Valley Cinema (in Wasilla) to see The Last Jedi this morning. We arrived to stand in line at 11am the movie started at 11:30am- After standing in line an hour to purchase just tickets, I am upset because we missed the first showing and I'll tell you why- We are seniors on a very tight budget. We only go to the movies twice a year because it is so costly. That's why we went for the morning showing-it's a little easier on the purse strings and sometimes not as crowded. We didn't purchase the tickets in advance because it's more expensive. You have to pay a service charge when you buy online. When you get your ticket at the theater admission cost is $7.25 if you go see a movie before 2pm. These days when a couple go to the movies be prepared to spend around $30 just for the admission, popcorn & a drink. The note on the ticket booth outside said to purchase tickets at the concession stand inside. The line in front of the concession stand snaked back 4 rows deep when we found our place at the end of the line. There were 2 people running the concession counter with about 45 people in line a head of us waiting to buy tickets, drinks & snacks. By the time we made our way up to the counter to just purchase our tickets the line behind us was close to going out the entrance door. The in-house ticket taker just stood there waiting for the line to slowly move in her direction- just so she could tear the ticket and direct you to the correct theater the ticket indicated. Another theater employee stuck his head out and took a look at all the people standing in line and directly went back the way he came. He was of no help to those two working at the concessions. I don't know where he went as we didn't see him again. My question is WHY have an outside ticket booth if you are not going to use it at times such as this- When the house is packed with families, friends, with seniors and kids out of school for winter recess while there's a headliner box office movie showing? The management really messed up with the employee schedule by not having sufficient help at the sales counter- For the TICKETS and concessions. There should have been someone dedicated to just selling tickets and let the other persons wait on drink/snack buyers. OR better yet- staff the concession counter accordingly to handle the heavy holiday movie goer traffic. After standing in line for an hour, we were more fortunate than some and did purchase movie tickets for the next showing 2 hours later. We could wait. But many people around us turned around and left very disgruntled, some swearing never to return because of such poor business management. It's very discouraging to wait an hour in line just to miss the movie you came to see. We arrived in plenty of time just to purchase tickets for the 2 of us. This theater needs to look at the staffing problem very seriously. It will be another couple of years before the sting we received today will be forgotten. They work those kids too hard running the staff too lean. No reason you can't keep any help. And Oh yeah...those electronic ticket machines just inside the door- They were down. :( read more

I don't know why this theatre has such a low yelp rating. My husband and I just moved here from Hawaii, and we have been here several times. We were hesitant to try it at first because in Hawaii, Yelp reviews are normally spot on. If it has a low help rating, you just don't go there. I guess yelp isn't as consistent in Alaska, because this theatre is excellent. It may not be massive, but the customer service is great, lines go quickly, popcorn is fresh, seats are comfortable, sound is good, and it's clean! We will continue to frequent this wonderful little theatre. read more

If I was to go to a theater in Arizona in the summer I would expect air conditioning. Why is that in Alaska in the winter does this place not turn on the heating. It had to be in the 50's in there. My whole group and myself were frozen by the end of the movie. Nice seats though :) read more

It is pretty convenient to have a larger theater in the valley. Most of the staff is quite friendly, too! But be careful as far as taking kids to see anything past a G-rating regardless of whether you are a parent or relative. They will sell you tickets and food, but not until you get to the ticket taker will they refuse you entry if you can't provide ID for the kids and also full refunds for everything you purchased. There is one older woman staff member, usually stationed at that point, who is so incredibly rude and condescending that she ruins the experience. She has even gone so far as to scold us for our movie choice before. My family would rather drive all the way into Anchorage than have to deal with her. We've tried many times, but she always seems to be working so we just don't anymore. read more

This theatre was pretty ok, the workers are nice, but most of them are lazy. I know this by personally knowing some of them. On top of that, every time I go theres usually food left all over the theatre floor, which isnt very convient. Other than these things, the projector has malfunctioned while I've been in the theatre, which is very nice. I've been many times and it's nothing special. read more

So I decided to finally go check out the big new movie theater in Wasilla. I should start out by admitting that I rarely go to movies in the theater. I stopped going around the time of the proliferation of cellphones. Not only were phones ringing mid-movie, people were taking the calls, talking loudly, ignoring the pleas of other people to shut up, then someone threw a soda at someone else ( I mean, you have to really resent someone to throw a large $8 soda at them) ... I saw it as the breakdown of civilization and decided I was happier watching dvds on my big screen tv at home snuggled up on the couch. What I like about my couch is that pieces of blackened chewing gun aren't stuck to the cushions like the seats at movie theaters. Also, my floors aren't sticky. But my husband and I had a day off and I thought it might be fun to take in a motion picture at the new theater. Matinee tickets were quite reasonable. $7 each. I thought the showing might sell out so I decided to buy them online at the theater's website. They wanted me to pay a $1 fee per ticket for doing so. This theater won't let you buy them on Fandango. I hesitated but figured it would be worth it to guarantee we had tickets and didn't have to stand in line. I went ahead and ponied up the extra 2 bucks... only to find out I could not print my tickets at home. Instead I was told to bring my credit card with me to claim my tickets at the theater. What the hell did I just pay an extra dollar a ticket for, I wondered? I ended up standing in line. In the line, there were signs posted encouraging people to buy online to avoid the line. Again, what the hell? I got up to the window & asked the guy where I was supposed to pick up my online tickets so that I could avoid the line. Perhaps there was another window or perhaps the guy who collected the tickets could print them for me? Nope. They charge extra to avoid standing in line only to make you stand in line. Awesome. The theater was nice on the inside. The seats were comfortable & still new enough to not have old gum stuck to them. The concessions counter was annoying in that they had photos of 'combos' you can buy, like McDonalds does. 2 large sodas & a large popcorn, that sort of thing. There were 8 or so different combos pictured. None of them had prices. It's kinda hard to decide what you want while waiting in line if prices aren't posted. I got up to the counter and asked why there were no prices on the combo menu. The gal shrugged. I made her go through each of the combos and tell me how much each cost. She didn't have the prices handy, had no idea, and had to look each up on her cash register. The prices were, of course, exorbitant. They have a restaurant attached to the theater that sells beer and food but I didn't even bother checking it out. If they're gonna charge $4.50 for a small soda I shudder to think what they'd charge for a beer. So all in all, the movie-going experience was what I expected it to be. It's a nice-looking new theater that will rip you off any chance it gets. If you're a regular theater-goer you're probably used it and think it's part of the territory. I guess it's preferable to the old hole-in-the-wall theater that used to be the only one in town? It confirmed my preference for watching movies at home but I'll probably be back on occasion. But I'll skip buying the tickets online and be sure to stop at Walmart next door first to get some cheap eats & drinks. read more

Theaters are overpriced, but if you're going to go to one, Valley Cinema isn't bad. The theater is usually clean and the screens are nice. I can't attest to the price of food as I have not ordered anything there. Even though it's the only option in the Valley, it's one of the better theaters in the state. read more

Finally!! A respectable theater has arrived in the valley! No longer do you have to suffer the slings and arrows of substandard cinema experiences. The sad truth is you may have been better off watching a movie on an iPhone duct taped to a blue tarp in your back yard before this theater opened (it's the valley I know it has happened). I've been to about 8 movies now at this theater and I am happy that I no longer have to drive 80-100 miles round trip for a top notch experience. There are certain elements that are a little rough around the edges though. The projecting crew seems to always have some technical issue to sort out as the previews start but it has never impacted the feature presentation. Who knows maybe this is meant to add to the dramatic tension. One unique feature that they are working on is a +21 theater which serves beer and wine. I hope they can get this to work but they need to offer something other than bottom barrel brews, and their movie selections have been odd for this type of format...a family feature targeting kids isn't a well thought out +21 selection. But it is a hidden gem of sorts, the same movie in the non 21 theater was sold out, the +21 showing 20 minutes later only had about 20 people in the whole theater. At that point you are not choosing which seat you want to sit in, you're choosing which row. Sound and audio quality are on par with anything Anchorage has to offer except for our lone IMAX theater. Yes the valley has evolved ever so slightly, but I'd still keep those blue tarps handy.... read more

this Cinema, while still relatively new, has a few years on it a this point. When it was nes there was no surprise that it was clean inside; however now, at a point when most theatres have sticky floors, nasty bathrooms and staff which appears to be unhappy and rather around the edges, this theatre shows none of those things. We truly enoy this place... have traditionally never spent much time at all in theaters... but this one surprisingly gets fairly regular business from us. It has become a favorite spot for our enjoyment. The staff is refreshingly friendly, from the people behind the counters to the ticket-taker at the entry point to the theaters themselves. Once again last night with one place to choose for celebrating by birthday, I chose a movie at the Valley Cinemas. As usual it was clean and pleasant. There were actually some aisles blocked with sings saying CAUTION WET FLOORS which gives a clue to the fact that they regularly mop there. Even the bathrooms are clean! Don't forget to sing up for your regular customer card, which almost every time provides a discount. Last night we again recieved 3 dollars off of our popcorn purchase. I recommend Valleu Cinemas to anyone looking for a clean place to enjoy a movie... even the volume is just right, koud enough to hear clearly but not making us deaf in the process. Enjoyable, clean, fun and friendly place to spend an evening watching one of Hollywood's latest relaeases. read more
