After several…read moreconversations with the owner (in person) as well as the female stylist who was scheduled to cut and blow dry my hair (over the phone), I was told they could do what I needed (cut from 3 inches past my shoulders-long to shoulder length and blow dry naturally curly hair). I arrived on time to my appointment, after driving 20 minutes from home and paying for parking only to be seated and looked over by the female stylist several times sighing and going back and forth between saying she could and could not cut my hair. She gave no particular reason, just kept touching it and looking at and repeatedly went back and forth until after ten minutes of being prodded like a zoo animal decided enough was enough. I was able to book a last minute appointment at M Salon in Eastchester and they gave me EXACTLY the shoulder length cut and style I wanted in less than an hour with only a picture and a few words for direction. Very DISAPPOINTED in Salon Shige as my 3-year old son had a great haircut experience with the owner a few months back that prompted me to try them for my own hair. I've had my hair cut and styled almost exclusively in the past ten years by Japanese salons in NYC, so I really can't figure out why this one salon found my hair difficult to work with. Looking at the pictures of the other customers, my hair is similar to many of their past customers. Oh well. My son won't be returning either.

I've always grown up having some fear going to get my hair done because when I ask for a trim, somehow others have managed to chop off 4-6 inches. Stef takes her time to listen to what I want; I bring in photos and inspiration and let her take it from there. Complete blind faith and trust. She always makes sure that I'm comfortable by offering snacks and drinks when she knows a coloring session will take hours. More importantly, my mom always says I get the best haircuts from her, and that says A LOT. I always feel refreshed, renewed, restored and like that b**** when I leave. Stef recently opened up her own space, and I couldn't be happier. There's plenty of parking, the space is beautiful and intimate, and Stef really shines doing her thing! I think one of the most important things about picking a salon, is the relationship you have with your stylist. Conversation just flows, and it truly is a pleasure catching up with Stef whenever I see her every 3-5 months. Whether I'm in Westchester, NJ, or in Brooklyn, I am always getting compliments on my hair, and always tell women she's worth the trip out to White Plains.
