We are visiting with family in town and were told about the new launch of this restaurant and we're excited to check it out. We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated right away. We were a party of 6 adults and a toddler. Our party ordered apps, we got the deviled eggs and the fried calamari. These things took 45 minutes to get to the table. Serving someone deviled eggs shouldn't take 45 minutes, and the calamari was frozen, so we are unsure why the opening of the service was so slow. It was almost as if the chef was deviling the eggs right at that time and for the amount of time we waited she would've have to have been cutting and battering a squid in the flesh which I know was not happening in there. Also, just to note the restaurant wasn't full. There were probably four other tables with diners. At this point, our toddler is starting to get increasingly restless, as it has been an hour and change, and the entrées have not been delivered yet at this time. My husband and I are taking turns to go into the lobby to distract her and get her moving so she wouldn't have a meltdown in the restaurant. We keep inquiring about where the dinner was and we're told several times "it's on its way" or "it's coming soon". Flash forward to 7:30pm. Our entrées were scattered arriving to the table, I asked the waitress where are my child's grilled cheese was and she said that she had forgot to put it in. (She did say she was sorry but when you have a hangry child sorry doesn't cut it) We waited all this time and the food for our baby's meal didn't exist. At this point, she was having a full fledged meltdown in the lobby, and so did I. I expressed great displeasure to the server and told her I needed her to box up mine and my husband's meals as soon as they arrived to the table, so we could leave to go deal with our toddler at home because she had reached her breaking point due to the long wait and lack of FOOD IN A RESTAURANT. We waited for our dinner service for two hours and the quality did not justify the long wait. Water logged canned green beans (the kind you get in a school or prison cafeteria),flavorless mashed potatoes, what looks and tastes like stove top stuffing... and the worst part about the whole experience, was not receiving proper customer service for this terrible experience. Me and my husband didn't even get to eat our meals at the table in the actual restaurant, which we were still charged for fully. My mother-in-law told me they comped the grilled cheese from the check (and again, I wouldn't know because I had to leave) but comping a $10 item that you forgot to put in, in the first place is not enough for the bad experience overall. We will never come back here. The kitchen brigade seems nonexistent or very inexperienced. Piss poor dinner service with even worse customer service.

I get that they wanted to go home but the 20-30 minute delay taking our order is the only reason we were still there. About 6:30pm, the ceremony with a live music started followed by passed hors d'oeuvre, fresh oysters, and wood fired pizza. The wood fired pizza was very delicious and I enjoyed the blackened shrimp and the arancini. I tried the cider and the rosé, but they were too dry for my taste. Then at 7:45pm, we went into the reception pavilion. The menu consisted of a salad as first course, a duet plate of salmon and beef short rib for entree, and dessert. The summer citrus salmon with the multi grain pilaf was very good. After first dance, father and daughter dance, mother and son dance, and speeches, the DJ told us to step outside. After a few minutes, the sky exploded with light. It was a beautiful fireworks display from the hillside. The bathrooms were stocked with essentials in the toiletry baskets. The water in the guest rooms and kitchen smells like sulfur/farts/rotten eggs. I mean, it's extreme. Very, very extreme. All of the rooms have Jacuzzi's, and I just can't imagine submerging myself in one of those tubs with the smell of the water. Peeee-yew! 2. The venue is beautiful, but it's really up to the renters to make it what they want it. It takes a *lot* of work to set things up (benches for the ceremony, room for the reception, etc.), so you have to be prepared to put some sweat into the space. That being said, it was totally worth it to work hard. My cousin's wedding ended up being the most beautiful wedding I've been to in my life. It was also great to be able to rent out all of the guest rooms for the wedding party so we were all together. There's a giant/modern kitchen so you can cook or keep things cold in the fridge. All of the other living spaces are so totally kitschy. There are artifacts and knickknacks and weird things all over the place. I can't even begin to describe some of the things you'll find in the guest spaces...that's really part of the fun of staying here! Anyway, the landscaping is beautiful. And there are fainting goats! And a pig named Victoria! And chickens! And bunnies running everywhere. And you can have firewood delivered so you can make a bonfire and cook s'mores. My overall sense…read moreis that many guests are returning families, for whom Winter Clove Inn holds special nostalgic memories, and they love it here. However, new guests that are expecting a 5-star resort based on Google classification will likely be pretty disappointed. The main Inn is old and charming, but it and the adjacent property buildings are showing their age in a not-so-charming way. For example, two of our five guest rooms in Oak Lodge had broken heat, which the property was certainly aware of as they had placed space heaters in the rooms before our arrival. During our last day, there was no water at all in the Carriage House, so guests could not flush toilets or wash hands, even after bowling! Really basic features you would expect in even a roadside motel, such as tissues in guest rooms, were not provided. Toilet seats that needed replacing are mismatched, with oval seats on square front toilets, and the toilet cover in the main lodge was broken and not repaired during our stay. Despite being "pet-free," blankets smelled like dog. Despite the rustic accommodations, our family created our own fun together. Our reserved table in the dining room was uncomfortably tight for 13 guests, which was continually apparent during the slow food service. The amount of food at each meal was plentiful, but servers were poorly trained as they repeatedly failed to clear place settings from one course before bringing another course, and repeatedly miscounted orders bringing the incorrect number of soups, desserts, etc. Aside from some disappointing low points, such as the embarrassing frozen mixed vegetables being served as the "vegetable of the day," or uncut unripe honeydew wedges served as the fruit option, the meals were basic but acceptable fare.

The scale is incredible when you realize one man did it all himself, including hoisting the 14 foot, 9 ton stone he called FLAME in the center. Opus 40 hosts concerts, nature talks and walks, events, and more at this beautiful, serene space, so check those out. And if you're more inclined, just do what my mom and her friends do often (what I've only done once so far), and walk the grounds and take it all in.

Management was attentive - out of sight, but ever present and accessible immediately through a quick text. Friday and Saturday nights, they have a bonfire going, with all of the ingredients required for s'more roasting neatly arranged in individual paper bags, next to wooden dowels, and brilliantly, hand wipes for sticky hands. While my husband is a camper, I am most certainly NOT, and I found this experience to be the perfect compromise for both of us. The enormous picture window in the cabin looked out to the woods. It was such a treat to wake up to the pastel colored sky through the trees as the sun rose, and then, after a full day of exploring the area and having a fantastic meal in downtown Hudson, it was lovely to unwind in nature.
