Bestie and I walked down to Varsity Club after hittin our favorite brewery Poseidon. We walked in at 10pm on FRIDAY and the place was dark, tables were all put up and the first thing we are told is only drinks NO food. Unfortunately, we didn't end up staying. I wasn't upset about not being served for 15 minutes -- I understand they were busy. The real issue was the extremely loud DJ during Sunday football. We love going out on Sundays to watch the games and actually hear the commentary, but instead we couldn't even hear ourselves talk, let alone a game. The food that came out looked amazing. The baseball and golf games looked cool. Hopefully this place schedules more people on Sunday or someone doesn't call out. read more

My friend and I went in a couple of weeks ago after seeing this place on IG to scope it out. Seems like a good spot to put this place, good amount of parking. Went in, greeted by the hostess who said we could look around. It was a very busy Saturday, with a cornhole tournament going on and multiple parties play the virtual golf, basketball and baseball cage. The TVs were just average size for a sports bar and they definitely hyped up how it looked in the IG reels, imo. We decided to come back another day but got a quote for the baseball cage... wow. Priced super high. There should be an affordable price point for small parties for folks who only want to do a few pitches during down time. While there, met the very nice owner who suggested the bacon wrapped shrimp, which we kept in mind for our follow up visit. Fast forward to 2/23, we decided to pay an actual sit down visit. We went to sit at the bar and asked the bartender if we could watch a specific game. He said yes but then proceeded to take his time to initiate the request, almost seemed annoyed. We placed an order for the bacon wrapped shrimp and a chicken Caesar salad, which both came out pretty fast since it wasn't very busy. The bacon wrapped shrimp was very VERY underwhelming at the price tag of $24! The bacon was not fully wrapped and falling off the shrimp and not crispy, lying on a bed of lukewarm vodka sauce, barely with any glaze on top. It would have been sooo easy to elevate this dish to match the price point but we felt truly ripped off. The Caesar salad was also a joke. The "romaine" lettuce was obviously just the bottom half of the romaine heart and was completely white/very light green, no green lettuce at all! $8 for a barely cut piece or grilled chicken plus having to ask for silverware when there's no one sitting at the bar AND there's a food runner? Really baffling to not anticipate guests needs, especially when it is slow. We didn't even finish watching our game because we were disappointed by our food ($50 for a salad and app, no drinks... hmmm). I love to support local and I hope they work out their kinks but my complaints are just restaurant basics. Probably would give it another try with a group but our experience, sadly, wasn't great. read more

First time at The Varsity Club. The place was packed for a Pokémon event. Sarah was incredible! She was running the bar like a one-woman show. Fast, friendly, calm under pressure, and somehow still making people feel welcomed while being completely slammed. It's not easy to keep that kind of composure when you're clearly carrying the weight of the room. She made our first visit a good one. What was surprising, though, was the lack of visible management support on such a busy day. When you host an event that fills the place wall to wall, you'd think leadership would be present... It's always interesting to see how businesses choose to show up for their staff. Thankfully Sarah showed up for everyone. I came here after a round of golf expecting a decent spot to watch the Lakers playoff game and the Dodgers--pretty basic ask, right? Instead, I walked into a place blasting DJ music so loud it was impossible to even hold a conversation, let alone actually follow the games. When I asked the staff to put the game audio on, I was told they had "no control," which honestly just sounds like an excuse. It made zero sense--every single person there was clearly watching the games, not one person was there for the DJ, and definitely no one was dancing. There were maybe eight people total, and I watched more people leave than stay because of how ridiculous the situation was. I ended up having to leave and go to a pizza place just to watch the rest of the games like a normal person. If you're going to call yourself a place to watch sports, at least act like it. I never knew this place existed until our Christmas party for our company. We went inside there and at first it's kind of deceiving because you don't realize that there's a whole back section and there's also virtual games that you can play. The food was OK. After a round at Buenaventura, a cold beer was needed. Walked literally across the street to the Varsity Club, and was quite pleasantly surprised! First, the place was vibrant, and full. Great people watching. There is a batting cage, and a golf simulator, so if you're craving some activity, it's there. Plenty of TV's for watching sports, the food was decent, and the beer was cold. The workers are extremely friendly, the drinks were great and you knew there was alcohol in them. in the back room they have basketball and a lot of others games. in the front room, they have some sort of golf cage, i'm not sure exactly what it was but it's golf. I want to like this place as a regukar go to for sporting events but I can't. When they are packed like they were last night, they can't handle it. Our server only cane by once to take our order then we never saw her again but she was right at our side when it came to oay the bill. The food is meh for the price point and there are no free refills for sodas for the kiddos (which we were not aware of until the bill came). The food is absolutely amazing and Tony the owner is always making sure every customer is always happy and taken care of. The servers are absolutely great and will cater to whatever you need. I definitely recommend coming here just to experience the customer service besides the prices are definitely affordable and worth it. We just celebrated a milestone birthday at the Varsity Club and we had a blast! This is such a fun spot to host a large group. It offers a great room with pool tables, cornhole boards, a ping pong table, giant jenga, a basketball court and plenty of TVs. You'll notice the overwhelming din the moment you walk in. Overall: I went in on a Friday at 5:20pm for a beer with about 60 other patrons already in-house. The moment I walked through the door I felt like I was walking into a concert venue. I cannot imagine how loud this place would be with a full house, but I feel bad for the employees. Sound baffling would be a welcome addition. I'll return for a second try, but I would consider Cronies, Poseidon, or one of the other local brewpubs before this one unless you want your ears ringing. read more

Come 'on. $4 for refill of Coke? $1.50 hotdog and drink at you know where..... free REFILLS too!! My buddy came an 1/2 hour later same thing. 40 mins for 1 beer. Only 1 bartender. Total: $60 for 2 beers 2 cokes and a pizza that I could have got at Costco. Great place..... but wait time is crazy and $4 for a refill of soda! My party of 20 and all their friends of the party will probably look for another place next time. Please get better and DON'T CHARGE for my designated drivers refill of SODA! When it's properly $0.10 to make a coke. 1st time here. Love to come back.... But not if I have to wait 40 minutes for a drink. The positive reviews on Yelp were probably from the management. I have to say that the owner of this establishment is absolutely one of the most rude people I have ever encountered. It was crowded, but her attitude and her mightier than thou persona was ridiculous. Service was spotty. Had to order drinks and food at bar and hope it would get delivered. That did get better later in the evening. People who got food said it was acceptable. The marg I got was good. Band they had was great (which is the reason we went). We decided to come out and give this new spot a try. Arrived early for our time on the golf cage, and the greeting was super nice. When it was our time to go in, 2:15pm, we were escorted to our location and told we would have a server to get drinks and food going. We had done a 1 hour reservation. Our server showed up for the first time 35 minutes into the session. It was pointless to get any food or drinks going at this point. When we told her we were going to not place an order because our time was almost up, she said we could just take it to a table later if we wanted. The entire purpose is to have food and drinks going while your doing the activity. There is also soo many kids running around, and grabbing items from the cages. We had a soccer ball and some other stuff set up for us to use, but the kids would just come and grab them from the baskets. They need to have a better system from kids grabbing the equipment we are renting for the hour. When our time was up the server came up and said we had one minute and we had to leave, which was understandable, but she was pretty rude. Overall, probably will not be returning. read more
