Mrs. Olsen's used to be THE spot to eat. Now it is A spot to avoid. We just had Sunday lunch there. The food was "meh" but the total experience was atrocious. We sat outside, but weren't told that there would be a band playing 10 minutes after we sat down - 15 feet form our table, with their PA system at 11. The band was okay, but the vocalist thought screaming was a solid plan to aid in digestion. It wasn't that busy but it took over 30 minutes for the food to arrive. They felt bad so they brought part of our order early, then said it would be another 6 minutes. It was more than 10. The server felt bad and halved out bill - but still. Then we saw the 3.5% added tax the Harbor District adds to the bill!!! WHAT?!?!? Needless to say, we won't be going back to Mrs. Olsen's and won't be eating at any restaurants in the Harbor District. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for years and have always tried to give places the benefit of the doubt, especially as someone who has worked as a server for over 7 years. Unfortunately, this was by far my worst experience here. First, I want to thank the busser who helped us (a kind Latinx gentleman). He was attentive, checked on us often, and showed genuine care.. far more than our actual server, MELISSA. MELISSA provided minimal to no customer service. She took our order without any warmth, never checked on us, and didn't offer refills, everything was handled by bussers. Our food came out only slightly warm, and portions were noticeably smaller than what we've received in the past, which is disappointing given the prices. What was most concerning and difficult to ignore was the clear difference in how MELISSA treated us compared to another table seated right next to us. When a Caucasian family was seated nearby, her entire demeanor changed. She became attentive, friendly, and engaged in a way she never once did with us. The contrast was immediate and obvious. After we finished, we paid our bill in full (including a 20% tip, despite the poor service) and left calmly. As we were walking to our car, MELISSA ran after us and questioned whether we had paid. This was not only embarrassing, but deeply upsetting. There was no attempt to verify with staff first, just an immediate assumption directed at us. As a server myself, I know how situations like this should be handled, and this was not it. Being singled out and approached this way, especially after already experiencing noticeably different treatment inside the restaurant, felt like profiling and discrimination. This all took place on what was supposed to be a nice Easter breakfast with my family, which made the experience even more disappointing. I did call to speak with a manager, who seemed to listen, but the overall situation was unacceptable. I will not be returning. There are plenty of other local smaller businesses in Oxnard that treat all guests with fairness, respect, and professionalism. read more

I have been a loyal customer since I moved to Ventura in 2007, back when they were still in Hollywood Beach. Today my son and I ordered two orders of country fried steak. The steak was small, dry and tasted like it had been recycled. The hash brown were completely dry like saw dust. The pancake looked two toned white and brown and tasted awful. The biscuits and gravy, broken pieces of biscuit swimming in gravy soup. We will not be returning. The quality is long gone. I guess this place is just a bar now. read more

Our group recently visited Mrs. Olson's Coffee Hut after seeing several photos of their menu and dishes that made me really excited to try it. The restaurant has a beautiful location and charming décor, which created a very pleasant atmosphere and made us look forward to our meal. During our visit, a few menu items we were interested in -- including the clam chowder -- were unfortunately unavailable. I ended up ordering the tri-tip tacos. The flavor merely okay, the presentation and toppings were minimal compared to what i expected, and some ingredients such as cilantro were missing. Additionally, most of the meals at our table had small errors or missing components. Omelettes missing tri-tip or other protein also, when the food was delivered, several dishes were served to the wrong guests, which created some confusion at the table. The staff was polite and did make an effort to address the concerns, which we appreciated, but the overall dining experience did not fully meet our expectations. Only one plate was not wrong. This location is definitely worth visiting for the scenery, ambiance, and possibly drinks. Hopefully, our experience was just an off day, as the setting truly is lovely. With more consistency in menu availability, order accuracy, and food preparation, it could be a wonderful dining destination. As a place to eat I would not recommend. read more

Dude? What happened here? I grew up in Hollywoodbeach and the Shores, back when this was at the OG Location (between sunset and ocean Dr - where Holltwoodbeach Cafe resides), this was THE BRUNCH SPOT... Since they've moved to the old Pirates grub n grog I am shocked at everything. I went in on a slow morning, bus boy greeted us and sat us at a table. Service wasn't the issue. The $10 for two coffees was. The weird "Mrs. Olson's famous shrimp tacos" or cocktail, whatever it was - was nothing that I recalled from before. I get times change, prices increase etc. but I don't know who runs this place but I'm not coming back. I couldn't digest the change and price gouge, the only thing I remember loving was the "potatoes deluxe" which I think is now called "Mrs. Olsons potatoes", who knows couldn't be bothered to get food here. Who the heck owns this place?! It was honestly nasty What happened here??? The fact that there was no line on a Sunday should've been the first sign . We waited about 30 minutes just for a waitress, and when she finally came over there was zero charm, no warmth, nothing. It felt like we were bothering her just by being there . Then we waited another 30 minutes for the food, and when it finally came out the plates looked sad . The so-called famous Ms. Olsen potatoes were completely lacking flavor -- if you know, you know. The hash browns honestly tasted like they came straight from the freezer . I ordered the eggs Benedict and the sauce tasted totally generic, like something out of a bottle ‍. And $5.00 for a cup of coffee??? That would be fine if it was good, but it tasted watered down Not to mention it was nothing but senior citizens in there and it honestly felt like they're taking advantage of people. They even added gratuity to a table of 6 without saying anything . That's not okay at all. And on top of that, there was some kind of harbor fee added to the bill -- that's something the owners should be paying, not the customers. Super disappointing experience overall. We discovered this spot even before we had a chance to fully familiarize ourselves with the area. Coincidentally, a few nights earlier, we had dinner upstairs at the Lookout Bar. While the nightlife at Mrs. Olens was definitely lively and cool--personally, not my usual scene--it was fun to watch the punk rock mosh pit from outside. We arrived on a Sunday morning expecting it to be busy, but to our surprise, it was quite quiet around 8:30 AM. For breakfast, I tried the chilaquiles, as well as the pancakes and French toast. The flavors were good and satisfying, though nothing particularly extraordinary. There was an extra charge for eggs, which was expected with the price increase, overall, the meal was enjoyable. Took my son to lunch here last week. I should have been weary when the place was empty. My son ordered the chili burger and I ordered the BLT (on the menu there was a chicken BLT with avocado....I asked for the BLT minus chicken but still wanted the avocado). The chili burger was a mess, as was the BLT. Adding insult to injury, They charged me EXTRA for the avocado, so my BLAT ended up costing more than the chicken BLT with avocado on the menu. Service was non existent and we had to go in search of a server twice. I'd suggest skipping this place, although the atmosphere being on the water was lovely. read more

My experience at this location was nothing short of a nightmare. Service was weak, waiting a prolonged amount of time just to receive of a skimpy amount of food. Came here when they opened. Nice location at Channel Islands Harbor, especially with their outdoor seating. Expect morning gloom but later in the morning with the sun coming out would make it nicer. As for the Surfer Burrito, it's definitely a big portion but wish there was more to it than eggs and potatoes. Thankfully both were well made and the potatoes had a good crisp to it. The cheese, sour cream and onions went well but the salsa verde provided a good kick. Overall good consistency for a hearty breakfast. Recommend eating half! Service was good considering the morning time frame so was taking care of especially with the coffee. Would come back to try other food on the menu. read more

I came back to Oxnard for the weekend after a very stressful week. My anxiousness got the best of me and I needed to go to the beach house to relax. I was hungry on Sunday and wanted to try out something new, something I haven't experienced before. I came to this breakfast brunch and lunch place called Mrs. Olsen's. Upon entering the time to seat us was immediate. The interior is decorative and really brings out a great attitude to customers. It was a foggy, gloomy and overcast day and so outside the chairs and tables were surrounded by mud. We opted to stay inside to dine instead. The wait time to get drinks and order was fairly quick; however receiving the food took way longer than I was used to or expecting. Give or take 25 minutes +/- 5. The food itself? It was rather spicy. I ordered the chile relleno off the popular dishes menu with hash browns and sourdough bread. The food itself was incredibly salty because it was an omelette that was smothered with chili, cheese and onions and the chile inside was stuffed with more jack cheese. Overall, the taste was exquisite and I liked it. The saltiness I feel should have been less. The hash browns were solid, cooked well and had a nice crunchy bite to it. Sourdough bread was good as well. It was $20 which is too high of price for this dish but it was enjoyable and filling. The other item ordered was the two eggs Benedict with the hollandaise on the side. It was average, but it came with o Brien potatoes that were more or less, not bad. The interior had a musical hippy vibe going for it, but expect long wait time for food and above average service. The toilets in the bathrooms were out of order. It was cold inside because the doors and windows were open and the cold overcast breeze crept in. I enjoyed it. The eggs Benedict was $15 and then on top of it all, an additional harbor fee is added that was like an additional $5 or so. Not a great value overall, but the food, service and ambiance made the experience acceptable. read more

One of our favorite breakfast spots in the 805! We've been here many times and honestly have nothing but great things to say. The customer service is always excellent, the food is delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. The view is perfect, especially if you're seated outside, and we love the sand feel when dining outdoors. This place does get super packed, but the wait is honestly not that bad. The food is always flavorful and a hit every single time. Sometimes there's live entertainment or a band, which is definitely a bonus. A must-try when you're in Oxnard! read more

Came here on a Sunday brunch they had music playing. It wasn't so packed, but yet the service was not there as you walk in. The two ladies in the counter were just talking. They were not ready to serve customers walking in after we got sat took about five minutes for somebody to take our drinks. I just didn't feel a friendly vibe or welcoming. Then we had to catch our waiter to be able to order our food. The food itself was not so tasty. Not sure that I will come back again. Things have really changed here. I don't remember it being like this. If you've ever wondered what breakfast would taste like if absolutely no one tried, look no further. The omelettes were so wrong I started to question if I'd accidentally ordered in another language. The food was so bland I genuinely considered checking if I'd lost my sense of taste. Spoiler: I hadn't. And the potatoes? Wow. A true culinary achievement. Somehow simultaneously terrible in every possible way--dry, soggy, flavorless, and sad. Impressive, really. Food was really good but we had a group of 14 come here for a work lunch, got there at 1140 and didn't get to order until 1215 and food didn't come out until 1250. Didn't seem like they had enough people working and was disappointed since more than half the table had to leave to get back for a meeting and we boxed up a lot of the meals for them. read more

Today we went to the once Great Mrs Olsons Coffee hut. Let me first start by saying this resturant in its day was one that everyone knew about and would recommend wholeheartedly. Today is a different story . I have witnessed the once great Coffee hut with delicious food turn into a nightmare of cheap decor and a definite lack of style for the beautiful Channel Island harbor. What happened here ...since I heard the previous Original owner left to sell or give to a family member it completely took a turn for the worse . Upon arrival the smell of beer and sticky tables filled the air. The once great Mrs Olsons potatoes have fallen by the waste side. I like so many others believed at one time that Mrs Olsons was one of the best places Ventura county had to offer, now it is one to be avoided. Oh how the might have have fallen. I guess everything has expiration date. The menu which was once vast is now a two sided laminated menu does not compare. Sir if this was your resturant I hope you have not seen what they have done to your labor of love. I like so many will never walk through your doors again. A customer lost for a bar ??? What a loss when there are plenty of bars in the area but not a great place to a great quality breakfast and awesome atmosphere. You lost more when you left the original location...such a disappointment to all of us that frequent the beautiful beach area. read more

Very much enjoyed our Sunday brunch for three here. The good-size crowd was a reflection of Mrs. O's reputation as one of the "go-to" places for Sunday brunch in Oxnard. Fortunately, in spite of the crowd, we did not have to wait long for a table on the outdoor patio, and we were happy to score a table on the rail overlooking the water with its view of the boats in the Channel Islands Harbor. Our server was Melissa and service was fast and friendly, without us being rushed at all. We each ordered a different omelet: Denver omelet - Ham, bell pepper, onions and cheddar cheese ($15), BYO omelet described on the menu as "Customizable American omelette with a choice of meats like turkey, sausage, chorizo, tri tip, ham, bacon, or beef. Veggie options include bell pepper, spinach, zucchini, and more. Cheese selections from jack to Swiss. Accompanied by sides such as black beans, hash browns, or fruit cup. Bread options range from rye to corn tortilla" ($17) SoCal Omelette with breakfast choices: beans, hash browns, tomatoes, fries, various potatoes, fruit, biscuit gravy; bread options include rye, sourdough, muffins, tortillas, wheat, biscuit, or none." ($15) Two of us had coffee ($3 each with free refills). Though my brunch companions had been there before, this was my first visit and Mrs. O's lived up to its reputation. Service was good, the food was very good, the portions were large, the prices were reasonable and the view was an added bonus. The cost for brunch for three before tax and tip was a very reasonable $53. Sales tax was 9.25% for $6.76 and there was something called a "Harbor Tax" for an additional 3.5% added on. I can wholeheartedly recommend Mrs. Olson's Coffee hut for breakfast or brunch in Oxnard and look forward to returning on my next visit to the area. read more

RIP Mrs Olson's. To start staff was solid 4.5 friendly attentive and kind. The location and outside area, although strange to have sand and chairs that sink in the sand has a nice vibe again a 4.0. That's where it drops off. This is not the original Mrs Olson's of old and it really just needs to change the name to follow with the re brand. The hope of clinging onto clientele with the name will soon drop off. I had a craving for a classic dish that I used to get back at the Hollywood beach location and once they relocated as well, sadly it didn't exist anymore. The food was bland, over priced and really lack luster. The coffee was very much watered down. It's a very chaotic mix of original military pieces and a punk rock low rider vibe that just doesn't go. Sad to see such a local classic dwindle to nothing I wish they had stayed in Hollywood beach but oh well on to the next. read more

Food is fair, service is erratic, expensive for the food quality. We had a party of 9 and not one of us was impressed by the food. It all sounded great on the menu, but it didn't deliver. Disappointed as Mrs. Olson's has definitely gone downhill since our last visit here. Still the same great view of the Channel Islands Harbor, but the food is no longer at the same great standard that Mrs. Olson's is used to. Prices are still the same, but the portions have gotten smaller. We ordered the crab cake plate, and while we got two crab cakes, there was very little crab inside and made mostly of fried breading - missing a lot of the flavor that would be expected with a crab cake. Potatoes are bland and missing the extra additions that used to make their potatoes so great. Still has good service. Love that they allow dogs here. Food is now average. Don't think we'll be returning until the food returns to its prior glory. read more

Waited about an hour, it was 2pm on a Saturday. There was no rush(like the breakfast rush) so you'd think this wouldn't take as long. Definitely cannot tell they're gluten-free! they're so yummy fluffy healthy tasting for a healthier alternative! First...can't beat the location here at the harbor! Not many patrons, can see why. Ate there this morning. Walked in, atmosphere was bar than restaurant, so we asked to sit outside. Patio was dirt, chairs were oddly low. Both inside and out wanted to be cleaned. Food was subpar and a bit pricey. And then this happened. An employee began cleaning some shelves with a hose in view of customers. A bit strange, but not a big deal. And then the manager started chastising the employee in plain view about how it was unprofessional. I dont disagree, but there are much, much better ways to deal with it. And NEVER in front of patrons, customers or other employees. I would never have remembered the shelf cleaning, but here I am giving you a 1 star review, not because of the food, the service, or the atmosphere, but how that employee was treated. read more

Unexpected entertainment from the table next to me--two gentlemen passionately discussing the best ways to damage people's cars if they park too close to their beach house. (Who needs TV drama when you have breakfast eavesdropping?) The bad: The other waitress? Oof. Straight-up rude. Not the cleanest place, but not disgusting either. Just kinda... there. ‍ Food was fine, nothing great, nothing terrible. Edible, but forgettable. My chair? Not the most comfortable. Felt like a mini workout just trying to sit still.
