    Wedge salad

No influencers. No hype. Just locals, cold beer, and harbor views at the Lookout Bar & Grill in Oxnard. This restaurant is the kind of place where you stay awhile to just be apart of the vibes. They have long term staff here have been pouring drinks and serving plates for years, and they know your name if you come back enough times. It definitely is a spot that has that down home local vibe. So coming into here it's important you keep this in mind. Service is on the slower side but warm and friendly. They intend it to be this way as they intentionally run on less staff to keep costs down is my guess. You make not agree with it, but it is how it is and I don't see it changing. Rose was holding it down when I came in, she was the bartender, server, food runner--because that's just how it goes here. Rose was truly lovely and kind. Great staff and a nice vibe for sure. It's not a spot for a quick lunch but the views are incredible, the food was exceptional and surpassed our expectations, with all of that, we were okay with staying awhile. Now let's talk food....Heres what I ordered: -The wedge salad of my dreams. Absolutely drowning in creamy blue cheese, loaded with fresh tomatoes, crunchy bacon, and crisp iceberg. An old school classic salad that was delicious. One of the best wedge salads I've had in the whole 805. -Fish & chips that came out golden and crisp, flaky on the inside, with just the right amount of salt. Pair that with harbor views and a cold beer? Say less. Another standout dish. Basically their whole menu here are the classics- burgers, sandwiches, fries, and appetizers. They also have a full bar and beer selection so don't worry. The Lookout is a timeless spot. Great Harbor views, classic delicious food and nice staff. It's a locals' bar & restaurant and sometimes to love a place is to accept it for what it is. And this is one of those places. I'll definitely be back soon!

I was so sure I had reviewed The Lookout last year. Dang-o! 'K, well, better late than never! This is SO a great neighborhood bar! If you're on a time schedule, maybe stick to fast service somewhere else. But if you want friendly locals, serving other friendly locals lots of YUM food, and you want to relax and breathe in some fresh sea air while people watching, boat watching, bird watching, or sports watching, lingering over a pint or two, or three or four(iykyk), then The Lookout is a wonderful spot. This particular harbor is pretty darn quiet and we enjoy a nice walk around the ~2 mile perimeter before stopping in for a bite and seeing how Karen and the crew are doing. Karen is an absolute DE-LIGHT! I look forward to her smiling face and sharing a laugh while she works her way through orders and deliveries. Want to know about anything local? Ask Karen! She may not know, but she'll tell you something to make you chuckle. FOOD! OMG! What to choose??? Today I went for the 8oz grilled salmon salad, served over fresh greens, with tomatoes, cucumbers and shredded carrots. Karen recommended the house made balsamic dressing, but lemon wedges were a perfect way for me to add a little zest while "reducing". Last December when we stopped by I ordered the award winning clam chowder in a sourdough bowl and it is SO TASTY - especially with the bacon strip stuck in it. Mwuh! Both then and today, hubs chose the 1/2 lb 100% Angus chuck, ground and hand formed, cheeseburger served on a beautiful, locally baked brioche bun with a side of fresh cut fries . A creature of habit, both times he was happy and I was envious. I asked Karen how the house Cioppino was and all she could say was, 'Honey!' and added a chef's kiss. LOL So next time, lunch may be the burger and dinner the Cioppino. Parking is free and plentiful. This harbor really is a best kept secret. So, the next time I need to chill with a delicious meal, beautiful view, friendly laid-back people and KAREN, I'm heading to The Lookout - just like the locals do. Cheers! "CC"

Love this place despite me not visiting often enough. Snuck out of work early to meet up with my friend for a drink. We had such a great time First off, Jeannie was great. I hope that's the correct spelling of her name. She took such great care of us and gave us extra beer before we left. The view from the outside area is super nice. We watched a dude paddle boarding the whole time we were there. We started off with an order of fries. It turned out so good that it opened my palate which turned into me getting a sandwich and chowder. Yo that chowder was fire. I ended up taking the sandwich home. We'll be back for karaoke night

R and I came after a long day from work and got the fish and chips and cup of clam chowder. We should have listened to a family that just left because they absolutely suggested the clam chowder. We should have ordered the bowl!! The fish and chips were great but we wanted more clam chowder!! We also got some drinks that were very tasty and beach vibes!! I only give it 4 stars because all the outside tables were dirty but it didn't seem busy. I think she said that one waitress was running late so they only had one at the time.

During a recent visit to the area with friends, we were on the lookout for a lively bar that served good food. We came across this spot through Yelp (or Google Maps) and decided to check it out. Arriving early--likely before 9 PM--we enjoyed our time before the karaoke kicked off. Since the ladies had an early tee time the next morning, we opted for an early night. Initially, I wasn't sure what I wanted to order, but one of our friends mentioned the tuna melt, which reminded me it had been a while since I'd had one. I went with that, accompanied by a bowl of clam chowder and shared some onion rings. The portions were generous, and everything was excellent--the tuna melt paired perfectly with the crispy onion rings, and the clam chowder hit the spot, offering comforting warmth and flavor. The only minor drawback was the extra tax added for dining at the docks. It didn't bother me initially, but after dining at Waterside, which doesn't charge such a tax, it left me wondering about the reasoning behind it.

It was a great place to warm up after a cold day out. The view is beautiful. Server was very attentive and friendly. The clam chowder was a bit too thick for my preference but good flavor. I had a salad with salmon. It was cooked how I like it.

    Fish and chips. Yum!

Great sports bar overlooking the Channel Islands harbor. Outside seating is available to grab some lunch and watch the boats float by. The service is great and very friendly. Food is also delicious. Highly recommend their fish and chips. Fish is fresh and crispy and fries are well season. Good portions too.

Ask the Community - The Lookout Bar & Grill

Is the Bar & Grill upstairs?

    Yes!

Are endless mimosas still offered? If so, what is the cost?

No, we stopped offering endless mimosas. Sorry

    Is it pet friendly?

Our outside patio is pet friendly, as long as the pets are well socialized and get along with others - both humans and other pets. Pets must always be leashed. Your furry buddy is welcome at The Lookout

Do you have bottomless mimosas all week?

No, it's only a Sat & Sunday thing.

Hi! Do you take reservations? Considering coming 4th of July weekend but assume it may get crowded. Thanks for any info!

No, we don't take reservations. It's a crazy busy day, so bring lots of patience! All the restaurants in the harbor try their best to keep up, but the crowds can get huge! It's a very fun day, and most people are in such good moods - it's one of… Read more

It was a slow night for them. As we arrived at the bar to check in and I have to say that there was not much joy in are presence. My husband presented the Groupon and she immediately said, "Yeah, were not taking those anymore" and mentioned the manager or owners name. My husband immediately showed her that the Groupon had not expired yet. She fiddled looking in the computer and eventually allowed us to sign the waiver and Ray led us to our lane. Listen, if the place was super busy and they were swamped, I could see why they would be bothered by a Groupon hassle. But that was NOT the case and the fact of the matter is, they did not apologize for doubting the validity of the Groupon. It was more like we were an annoyance that we came in at all. Didn't ask us if we wanted something to drink. Ray was excellent at his presentation and instruction, but we were the only people throwing at the time and I was having issues with even hitting the board with the metal part of the axe. Just a helpful hint for the throwers, you will have to get someone back over there by asking if you need anymore help. They are not going to volunteer to help you again. All and all it is a fun environment, but I doubt we will be going back anytime soon. You want to spend money in an establishment that wants you there. Not one that acts like you just pissed in their Cheerios by showing up. Fun place to try, but frustrating if you can't throw the axe correctly to make it stick to the wall.

We came at the brunch hour so we ordered off their brunch menu. I got the Breakfast sandwich and my friend got a breakfast burger. We opted for just water today. My breakfast sandwich was as you imagined an egg sandwich to be. Cooked egg, 2 slices of bacon with aioli sauce on a toasted brioche bun. I got a side of hash-browns instead of fries. I would have preferred my hash browns to have a bit of a crisper crust but they were bad. My friend substituted sweet potato fries for the regular fries. The service was pretty good. Our waitress did check on us once our food arrived but didn't bother to refill our waters at all during our meal. I loved the low key vibe of the place. At least the patio seating. Just as we were about to leave there was a large party coming in which was a reserved table because we saw "reserved signs on it" and I heard the waitress asked how many dogs were there and the said 3.
