talk about a comeback…read more The Southern Table staff and management sought to ensure we had a great experience this time and excelled. Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

8/2026 update: Hubs and I had dinner at Southern Table a couple of Saturdays ago. The experience…read morewas more of a 3.5 star rating. I was disappointed because it is rare for us to enjoy a meal out, and Southern Table, to this point, has been my favorite place to have dinner in the entire north Alabama region! I crave Chef Yokley's wood-fired oysters and find this dish consistently filling and delicious as it has been for years! Because Hubs did not want any oysters, I got 2 pairs of oysters on the happy hour menu which were extremely reasonably priced at either $1.00 or $2.00 per oyster. Were they wood-fired? Yes. Were they rich and decadent like all previous times I have tried them? No. Were they small? Yes. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a small oyster, in fact my favorite oysters, Murder Points, are typically small, or small-ish. The recent visit, the oysters were way smaller than the shucked shell they were heated in with the parmesan cheese sauce, meaning the cheese overwhelmed and dominated any oyster goodness (brininess) you could have tasted and enjoyed. And, the last of the four oysters had some tough mollusk piece that I actually had to just spit the whole oyster out in my napkin. Either bad shucking or lack of expediting/checking the dishes leaving the kitchen, or both. It was sad. Chef Yokley posts a lot of photographs of his dishes/drinks on Facebook and I had seen his crab cakes with a unique and very interesting sounding salad with citrusy flavored greens and unique berries I had never tried. Well, wouldn't you expect the server to tell you about the specials and describe them? Ours did not. I had to pull up the photograph from Facebook and ask the server about it. They offered an appetizer size of the dish and an entree sized version. I got the appetizer. It was okay. There wasn't as much of a sear on these smallish crab cakes, as I like and the "salad" was more of a garnish, meaning, it would have been nice to have more of the salad than I received. I had to chase down the server to get hubs water refilled (he would have had non alcoholic beer but Southern Table doesn't have any) and to get me a second glass of house white wine. Hubs ordered a wood fired pork sandwich with French Fries. He said it tasted a lot like Lawler's barbecue. He added "and that's not a bad thing!" The sandwich was nothing special, honestly to the Hubs. It will be a while before I return to Southern Table, sadly. I think Chef Yokley needs to step up his expediting game and his attention to detail.

There were ample shrimps in the dish and the shrimps were seasoned well and tasty! Both the shrimps and the grits were exceptional quality. The grits were very creamy and again, seasoned well! The lemon was grilled which is a lovely touch and the scallions/sliced onions offered a touch of freshness and flavor. There was an abundance of grease in the dish which was the only evidence of any chorizo sausage. In accustomed to having andouille sausage in shrimp and grits and usually they are medallions, sliced like coins. Sometimes the sausage is diced and it's always seared. The sausage was absent. Day one I ate the shrimp and day two I cooked some andouille sausage we had, removed the grease from my leftovers, and had the grits with our andouille medallions. The grits were cheesy and creamy and really good and they did taste great with the addition of our sausage. I'm sure Tupelo Honey would have corrected the missing sausage had I been present at lunch. I was pleased with the quality of the ingredients, just disappointed the sausage was missing.

Service was a bit slow getting started and remained somewhat slow throughout our visit. For starters, we ordered the fried green tomatoes and fried pickles. The fried green tomatoes were a bit firm and difficult to cut, but the fried pickles were enjoyable. For our entrees, we ordered the Chicken & Waffles, Peppercorn Meatloaf, and Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken. We also ordered a side of sweet potato pancakes. The Peppercorn Meatloaf had quite a bit of spice, even for a spicy food lover like me! The chicken tenders served with the waffles had some spice to them as well. They tasted fine to me, but they were a little too spicy for my friend who ordered them. The Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken was definitely our fave, 10/10. The crispy Brussels sprouts were a bit dry and underwhelming. I think they would have been much better with some type of glaze or sauce. We waited quite a while for our bill at the end of the meal. The slow service was the main drawback and reason for my rating. Our server was pleasant, but he seemed a little overwhelmed.

In the absence of a website, we found a Facebook page and menus posted in Google which we referenced to make our dinner selections. When we called to order, we were told the items we requested were not being served on Saturdays and that daily specials were available shown on their Facebook page. We then selected items from their Facebook page and were advised only one portion of fish was available, and there was only one vegetable option, which was problematic since two of our diners were pescatarian. The pescatarians decided to share the fish and the other guests ordered the chicken and ribs. The fried catfish and chicken were delicious, fried perfectly and the ribs were also pretty good. The macaroni and cheese was mushy and wasn't very cheesy; however, the cole slaw, seasoned fries and roll were all tasty sides. Overall, the lack of selections at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night was disappointing; however, the staff was friendly and Niyah's may be worth a second try.

Happy to finally try out this spot! Definitely a local gem…read more Located in north Huntsville, perhaps in a spot most people wouldn't think to go, is a small space with beautiful simple decor, and a menu that constantly changes. Chef Noble is local to the area, and not only the food, but the space itself, all pay homage to his upbringing. I stopped by for the summer tasting menu evening. I didn't realize it was buffet style when I booked my seat online, but fortunately I was able to try everything and not leave hungry. The place sits maybe 30 people, so I usually worry about groups and couples bullying their way to the food whenever it's a small setting and no individual servings. But the menu was well planned, and nobody went hungry. Food last night was an interesting mix of southern style, local ingredients, and color. My personal favorite, the gnocchi. Looking forward to my next visit. But keep an eye out for their emails because they are a reservation only place, and seats sell out fast for their monthly seatings.

This soul food restaurant offers home-cooked Southern meals in a cozy, home-like kitchen setting…read more The restaurant has a great health department report, boasting a score above 90%. The food, unfortunately, was somewhat average. It wasn't overly salty, which I appreciated, but some of the menu items tasted as though they came straight from a can. I wasn't particularly impressed with the beans or collard greens. The cornbread was not dry, actually perfect and the star of the entree!! The BBQ chicken was mildly okay, but overall, the food didn't really stand out. For the price, I expected more and, frankly, left feeling disappointed. The food was missing that soulful personality and homemade flavor I look for in a soul food restaurant. Now, the service was spectacular! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and I honestly couldn't have asked for better service. There's a large TV and plenty of windows, so you can choose between watching television or people-watching outside. It really does have a comfortable, home-kitchen feel. Parking is somewhat limited, but the friendly service and welcoming atmosphere are definitely worth mentioning. Overall, the experience was pleasant, but the food itself left me wanting more.
