This is an extremely clean, exquisitely-appointed, grand old manor in the heart of the historical district. Chuck, the proprietor, was so warm and friendly. We were able to check in early and get a very convenient parking spot. Our room was so lovely, and had one of the roomiest, cleanest bathrooms I've ever had at any kind of hotel or B&B. We had the perfect day: a nice walk around downtown, cold beers/fresh oysters for lunch. A nice little snooze in the room before sunset cocktails and a fantastic dinner at Circa 1922. Back at The Verandas, we enjoyed a late night glass of sherry while flipping through old books of photographs. Breakfast the next morning was elegant, delicious and very filling. All the other guests were so friendly and kind. Not sure if we'll ever get back to Wilmington, but if we do, we'll definitely stay at the Verandas again! read more

My husband booked for our 33rd anniversary based on website video and Facebook that shows wonderful breakfast being made. Well it fell short. A bit of a bait and switch. It was a chain hotel continental at best with reheated sausage, mini pre-frozen quiches, bagels, a toaster. This is a great place to stay for a weekend getaway from the Triangle. They give free cookies and also breakfast! We loved our stay at The Verandas! It was such a nice change from staying in a chain hotel. The house itself is gorgeous and the neighborhood is as well! The service at The Verandas was great too. The breakfast each morning was delicious and so were the cookies that were waiting for us each afternoon when we returned from our day out exploring the area. Given the small, quaint setting we had the opportunity to meet and chat with other guests at breakfast, which we enjoyed. The house as well as the street were very quiet but also very close and walkable to everything you might want to do in downtown Wilmington and the Riverwalk area. We were easily able to park on the street right in front of the inn during the four nights we were there. read more

A quaint old home has been made into a Bed n Breakfast. $200. Per night was steep for the stay. Breakfast consisted of a quiche with no rolls or bakery items. Slim pickings at this place. The bathroom is missing Kleenex. The wallpaper is peeling in the bathroom. We had to ask for clean towels. Our room was not made up. New ownership just recently. One would expect more hospitality. I absolutely loved this Bed and Breakfast! We stayed over New Years weekend and loved the location and charm of the place. When we arrived, we were greeted and quickly shown our room. We were also given the rundown of the place, breakfast, parking (you get a pass for the street), and the various places we could hang out. The room was on the second floor and was a cute queen with its own bathroom. The place was overall quiet, and in the morning we went downstairs (9AM) to get our breakfast. We had some banana nut bread, omelette, and potatoes. It was all delicious. Highly recommend and cannot wait to stay again. read more

This place is amazing! The home is beautiful and very well kept. Our room was on the 3rd floor (deluxe king) at $280 for the night, which is pricey, but we paid for the experience. Great views from our room, very comfortable bed, great location and walking distance to lots of bars, restaurants and shopping. Street parking only and I had to parallel park which is a . But literally that's the only negative. Breakfast was very good. Choice of juices, coffee, tea, pastry and then omelette with potato's and bacon. Natalie was our breakfast host and she was extremely friendly and attentive. We will definitely book here again. read more

Formerly known.l as the Benjamin Beery House, The Verandas is a beautifully appointed Bed and Breakfast in the heart of downtown Wilmington. I was there for a holiday party and I was thoroughly impressed by the renovations that have taken place since Hurricane Florence did its damage. The rooms are all incredibly unique with beautiful finishes and furniture. Each room has its own. Personality and I was most impressed by the beautiful wallpaper in each room. The common areas are stunning and the place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It is well within walking distance to anything you could want or need downtown and the view from the Widows Nest is absolutely stunning. One of the best residential views of the Cape Fear and historic downtown. If you're looking for a charming place to stay, this is the spot for you! read more

This used to be our favorite B&B, a spot my wife and I celebrated our first anniversary and many birthdays. Unfortunately, it has lost a lot of its charm. In fact, since the new ownership took over, it really does not qualify as a B&B anymore as there is no staff there after 5pm (and from a technical standpoint, is not anybody's primary residence, the regulatory distinction for a B&B in NC). The home is still beautiful, but it's just a room to stay in now. Instead of feeling like you're being welcomed into somebody's home, it is just a hotel stay, with staff there to serve breakfast and clean the room, and nothing else. The most memorable part of our stay was the group of guests that decided 3am was an appropriate time to hang out loudly in the living room one night, and then playing the piano at 1:30am the next night, waking everybody else in the house up both nights. Sorry to say that was likely our last time staying at The Verandas. read more

Dear Verandas, It's odd that I've had some of my best and worst B&B experiences - literally - within a 3 minute walk of you. Unfortunately, you chose to ally yourself with the lesser of those experiences. My partner and I stopped by last weekend to inquire about vacancies for the night, and it's fine that you didn't have any rooms available (we knew we were taking our chances). But when we asked about a possible quick tour for our forthcoming wedding, you told us that "we don't do that" and then made up some excuse about having something in the oven. You couldn't close the door fast enough. Seriously? You're in the service industry and talk to people like that? Here's a tip: when you're in the service industry, you do best when you focus on the word "service". That means that you don't literally "brush off" potential business that (literally) comes knocking on your front door. We know that many B&B's aren't zoned for traditional weddings, and if you had taken the time you'd know that we're planning a very small wedding that may very well have fit there. And even if we had the wedding elsewhere, we'd still be looking for a place for our guests to stay. That's a lot of potential business that'll be going elsewhere. You have a pretty building. Please - give the kind of service that it deserves. read more

The Verandas is a beautiful southern B and B with gorgeous furnishings and the most gracious host I've ever met, Chuck. When you arrive you enter into a grand foyer with immaculately restored living areas down to the smallest details. Antique furnishings, chandeliers, a piano forte and lovingly chosen decor. Chuck exudes southern charm and invites you to imbibe in sherry, wine, sodas, chocolates and daily homemade chocolate chip cookies. Breakfast is quite the experience. The days we were there we had French toast with bananas foster, baked eggs with Hollandaise and stuffed croissants on successive days. The rooms are on a grand scale with large beds and lovely light and decor. Chuck is a master raconteur and makes everyone feel at home, welcome and joyous. Oh and there are porches everywhere for whiling away the days and enjoying the beautiful views of Wilmington. If you prefer to party, the shops and restaurants of downtown are just a few very short blocks away. hope I get back to the Verandas soon! read more

The hosts are generous and hospitable, always with a smile on their face and willing to help with restaurant recommendations and town history. I had to cancel my trip this past weekend with my boyfriend due to him having to tend to a very ill mother. We thought she would get better but she ended up hospitalized so we had to cancel last minute. I called and sent an email with no response. After The Verandas, charged my card for one night's stay, I called again to explain the situation. The owner was very, very rude and curt. It does state in their cancellation policy to cancel 7 days prior; however, due to the unpredictable nature of an illness and still giving over 48 hour notice, I was hoping for a little more understanding or at the very least better and more pleasant customer service. He did say that I get a credit to use only if I came in the future and stayed for two nights then I would get the third night free. But who would want to stay here after enduring such unwarranted, rude customer service? Small businesses need to protect themselves and I am fully aware of that but the beauty of a small business is the personal nature in which they treat their customers. First off I have to say that chuck and Dennis are two amazing people. The verandas was the first bed and breakfast that my wife and I have ever been two. It is going to be kind of hard to ever beat this place the cleanest,nicest,warmest place that we have ever been to. The house really made us have that warm feeling inside and best of all it was during Christmas time. Chuck makes the most incredible breakfast ever and the white wine that he has is amazing also. My partner, sister and I spent three delightful days in Rooms 1 and 6 of The Verandas B&B this past weekend while celebrating the wedding of a member of our family. We couldn't have found a more gracious and comfortable home away from home for this special occasion. The proprietors, Chuck and Dennis, were the most congenial of hosts. From our arrival to departure, they made us feel like welcome members of their family. To do so without ever intruding on our own privacy was a remarkable accomplishment. At one point, while our family was relaxing in one of the beautiful living rooms at the front of the building, prospective customers knocked at the door and asked to tour the premises. Our hosts greeted them but asked that they make an appointment for a later time to avoid disturbing the guests currently in residence. This respect for our privacy and the quality of our experience was characteristic of the hospitality offered at The Verandas. We enjoyed a wonderful visit. This was my third stay at this B&B, and I hope to return many times in the years ahead. read more

The property is stunning, the food is delicious (especially the chocolate chip cookies - baked fresh daily!!!), and the rooms are very comfortable. My wife and I went here to celebrate our 19th anniversary. It was our first experience with a Bed & Breakfast and we loved it! My husband and I had a wonderful experience at The Verandas that can only be described as perfection. I chose to book this B&B based on the rave reviews from past guests on another travel site and we were so pleased with our decision. Chuck is the most gracious host and clearly cares about his guests. After 2 days, he felt like family. The location is perfect with ample parking and a quiet corner lot secluded by plants and trees. Yet, we were within walking distance to all of the downtown Wilmington restaurants, shops, and Riverwalk. Chuck suggested Caprice Bistro on Market St. for dinner and it was a world-class meal. Chuck was a kind and thoughtful host, who did his utmost to ensure we had a fabulous stay.
