Amazing view as you'd expect from the name. Our foods (quesadilla, Green Chile stew, fry bread) were totally delicious. Also large, so if you're not huge eaters well we could have split either entree. OK, not really the stew since it's in a bowl ha ha. During thanksgiving weekend trip we stayed one night in Goulding's lodge and we ordered the dinner for carry out. Chicken wings perfectly cooked. Chicken stew is tasty and goes with fry bread. I am disappointed with lamb stew; it was diluted and I hardly found the lamb pieces in it. Navajo fry bread, guess made of blue corn tastes good. The order didn't take longer time and the staff was friendly and spent time in explaining what the order consists of. Oh my. The food and service here is sooo bad. Food: I had the Red Chili Posole on the recommendation of the waitress. It was so bland and watery (despite being told how flavorful it was) and the meat was terrible - pale and gristly. Husband had green chili stew. Equally as bad. Thank goodness for the salad bar and soup or we would have gone very hungry Service: Had to physically flag down server to order, get water and check. Visited twice on two different Monument Valley trips. Decent food and prices for a tourist only place. Typical american fare with a few Navajo specialties thrown in. Restaurant is a bit crowded and noisy, but the view can't be beat and the servers are very friendly. Definitely try the Navajo Fry Bread! A blue tinted cross between a Sopaipilla and tortilla. A touch of honey and so good! They offer a handful of dishes based on the Fry Bread - Navajo Taco, Hamburger, stew, etc. Navajo Taco is interesting. Like a tostada, Fry bread serves as base and then Chili con Carne, re-fried beans, and all the fixings are heaped on top. Go for the sampler--even as a main course--comes with 3 small tacos, much better prepared and easier to eat. The dinner taco was a mess, both to eat and taste. Other food is typical of tourist place, very mediocre, but when eating in the middle nowhere, better expected. NOTE: Navajo Nation is DRY. No wine and only non-alcoholic beer available. read more

Food has improved since my first visit shortly after the hotel opened. I liked the Red Chile Posole stew. I see others did not care for it so much. Enormous burgers and mounds of fresh crispy fries. I was extremely skeptical of this restaurant after reading all the reviews. Fortunately, the food turned out significantly better than I thought it would be. The famous green chile stew was very good. The only complaint was it was not very hot. I'd prefer it steamy hot next time. We also got buffalo chicken wings which were delicious. The tuna sandwich was very well done. The view was obviously outstanding too. The prices were more than fair considering you are in the middle of nowhere. If you can eat elsewhere, or think in advance and pack a picnic lunch, I would probably recommend it. Although, this place does have a nice view if you are lucky enough to eat next to the window or on the porch outside! The service is a little weak, the burgers are frozen patties, and the fried bread is not as exciting as it sounds. The good thing is, there are plenty of places to plug in your batteries that need recharging while you eat and enjoy the view, so you can be juiced up to take some sweet photos around Monument Valley! Our waitress wouldn't re-seat us next to the window even though we hadn't gotten any of our food yet because she said she had already placed our order and it would mess up the check (there were only 3 other tables occupied in the entire restaurant and we came in after the 'lunch rush'). She also got our order wrong (we ordered burgers and season fries...). In any normal city or town, I would say this was a pretty ridiculous dining experience, but given the circumstances and where we were, I am glad that at least we were fed something fairly quickly and conveniently. read more

Ate here for dinner and breakfast while staying at the hotel. This is not a fine dining experience but with that said the portions were huge and the service was very good. The sampler is the must have dish with a little of everything Navajo. We also enjoyed the fried bread which is like nan only fried. Consider the fact that you are in the middle of nowhere, this place provides fresh cooked food with good service. I was very impressed with the quality of the salad bar. I mean..... Bad service. Since the View opened the service has been mediocre and now it has turned to bad / lousy / awful. The staff changes regularly. Management as well and the rules change every few weeks. I visit with groups and their service gets worse every month. Prices go up as well every year, but not quality. Avoid eating here. Go across highway 163 to Gouldings if you have the time. Good choices, quality and service are 10 times better there. And if you do choose to deal with the View; don't share any feedback because they will simply show you the door. My boyfriend and I camped at the newly opened campground associated with The View Hotel and Restaurant. We started a review for the campground as well because our experience was so outstanding. The food at the restaurant is good and modest. It's everything you could ask for and the service is even better. They are extremely hospitable. We had both breakfast and dinner here. They take care of you and make sure you are accommodated. The breakfast buffet was great except there was no bacon out at the time so we asked for some. She brought enough bacon for 10 people. Like literally a whole plate of bacon. They have outdoor seating but we sat inside to get a whiff of the air conditioning. The restaurant has huge windows all over to view the monuments while eating. The food is mediocre but WAY overpriced. I guess that is their option because they have a captive audience. The staff is very slow and uninterested in your requests - they will get what you ask for at their leisure. Gratuity is included if you have 5+ people, regardless of what you think the server deserves. In once instance we used the crummy $5 coupon however we didn't order off of the front of the menu so the lady at the register gave us a hard time. They coupon didn't mention anything other than it was $5 off the buffet, which was not offered. They relented but I am pretty sure a nasty Navajo word or three was flung at us when we started to make a stink. It is quite warm in the sun too...so be prepared. Oh and don't assume refills - I got up and got my own. FYI - I told my clan about my 2 star review and they disagreed. Yum! Good food, friendly service and a mealtime view that is incomparable! While visiting Monument Valley, we couldn't pass up the chance to eat and enjoy the view. The menu has a lot of options, including Navajo tacos, Navajo stew and sandwiches/burgers named after famous Monument Valley visitors. My husband and I are staying at The View and after the mad photography rush at sunset we followed the crowd in to dinner. There were a lot of people all hoping to eat at the same time and the staff did an excellent job accommodating everyone quickly. Our server was very pleasant and efficient, getting our order in immediately. I had read that the best bets were the Native specialties so we ordered the taco sampler and some simple chips and guacamole. The tacos were really tasty-- we added seasoned ground beef for $1 (a dollar!) and all of the toppings were fresh; hot meat and beans, cold crisp lettuce and tomato. The guacamole was clearly freshly homemade. They have a simple little salad bar, too-- nothing fancy but fresh ingredients. And they were serving a soup with the salad bar that I tried a cup of-- it was a thick and hearty chicken and rice stew and it was delicious! I could've eaten a full bowl of it easily. I knocked off one star because they were out of iced tea and there was a wait while they refilled the empty soup tureen but all in all, we had a very satisfying meal. Stew was more like chicken soup. Taco was enormous but needed more flavour. Fried bread was yummy but listed as an appetiser on the menu - probably should have been a suggested dessert option (even if it is a traditional appetiser) as it was served with powdered sugar and honey. Breakfast: really really ordinary. The sort of thing I would expect at a cheap motel. Pity as this place could be amazing. I wish I took note of the young guy who served us at breakfast. We had a dinner in the restaurant, so no comments on the "deli" side. We, me and my wife, shared a "Navajo Sampler". It was big enough for two people not too hungry. I had read bad reviews about dinner, but had a really great experience. We came in November, but the hotel was still quite full. Everyone came into dinner as soon as the sun went down. They have a salad bar with each meal to get you started. Their local dishes are my favorite. We tried the sampler to get a taste of all of them. The red chili pasole was my favorite- rich and full of flavor and I suggest putting sour cream on top. The green chili stew was also good. I would take a miss on the Lamb stew as it was not as flavorful. We were served super quick and very friendly and really enjoyed our dinner! read more

The view from the restaurant is fabulous with the history of the Hollywood western movies. The food was good but the service was very poor. Our waitress apparently had an attitude. After we were seated it took a very long time to place the order. When we were finished it took even longer to get our check. I have a mixed review. My dinner was awesome- Navajo stew with pork and delicious toasted bread. My husband and mother in law each had a small Suzie taco which was actually huge and they both enjoyed it. My father in law had a cheeseburger and I could tell right away or was not a high quality burger. He said it was dry and not very tasty. :( so I recommend choosing the Navajo specialties but don't bother ordering an "American dish" because it's really not what they are good at apparently. Best chicken enchilada soup ever! We had the world famous green chili soup and fry bread and the Suzy Yawzee Taco (enourmous) and piñon coffee. The menu is all good and I especially enjoy southwestern dishes prepared with hatch green chilis. The view at sunset is an extra treat. The red chili was a little blunt in taste as someone else bites before. The traditional taco was huge and is easily enough for 2-3 people to share. I'd recommend omnivores to add the beef chili for a bit of spicy flavor since it is a little blunt otherwise as well. The salad and soup bar consists of one soup and a small salad selection of iceberg lettuce, raw veggies, toppings and sauces. They also told us that their salads on the menu are based on what we see at the salad bar. The lady at the reception was not helpful at all. She seemed like she hates her job and would rather be somewhere else. Our server on the other hand seemed to love what he was doing and was super friendly and helpful! I have a feeling some of these reviews are influenced by the fact this is the ONLY restaurant nearby. The food was not good. We had a variety of dishes and none of them were outstanding. The service was poor. Slow, not very friendly. They do not serve alcohol which is fine but may be surprising for some. We heard at least 6 parties, mostly traveling from Europe ask where the bar was. Sorry folks, no bar, just a wide assortment of near beers and alcohol free wine, aka grape juice. It's fine for one meal while you are in the area, just don't expect to have your tastebuds jumping for joy. read more
