    Chilaquiles

First time coming here and the food was 10/10. The service was fast and staff were friendly. The place is nice & clean as well, Definitely coming back again.

The default hot sauce. I wasn't a fan.

Really just your average American diner/ breakfast restaurant that is located around what feels like the "suburban" areas of Salinas, Villages serves your classic American breakfast foods mixed in with Mexican breakfast options (like Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros). The food was good. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Service was nice and quick. Attentive, except towards the end of the meal, not as attentive (water or napkins). Plenty of parking. Only 1 bathroom per sex, so sometimes people queue up to go.

The Village is a nice, local, family run eatery. Lots of choices on the menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We went for brekky. The Mrs. had the special (not on the menu, or specials board) Chile Relleno omelette. It WAS SO GOOD!!!!!! It was exactly as described: a fresh poblano, stuffed with cheese, and wrapped in an omelette with a slight spicy tomato salsa. Wow! I'd go back just for this! I had the country fried steak and eggs. The steak was good and well-tenderized and breaded. The gravy was almost inedible. It was only gravy in the literal sense because it covered my steak. What it really was, was warm cream with some cooked and crumbled sausage thrown in. It was watery and bland. Hopefully this was just a bad gravy day and this is not what their gravy is like everyday. The home fries were warm and crispy and delicious. The scrambled eggs were on point. The coffee was fresh and refilled regularly and they have French vanilla creamer on the table. We'll go back but not for anything with gravy on it. Good thing they have lots to choose from!!

My daughter said it's her "Top 5 restaurant" that she's been to. We had the burger, pancakes, and popcorn shrimp, and clam chowder. It served two adults and two kids.

So Our First Time Here At "The Village Restaurant" In Salinas,Ca On The Fancier Side Of Town...!!! Lol So I Ordered The "BACADO" An Omelette With Avocado, Bacon, And Cheese. With Sourdough Toast And Salsa And Sour Cream On The Side. With An OJ To Wash It Down. My Fiancée Ordered The Chilaquiles Verdes With Eggs Over Medium And A Michelada To Wash It All Down...!!!! Place Is Quiet And Only Two Older Couples In Sight. Hopefully Not A Bad Sign. They Got Our Orders Quickly And Drinks Delivered Quickly...!! Everything Is Awesome My Fiancées Chilaquiles Are BOMB...!!! That Salsa Verde Is Off The Hook...!!! And My Omelet Is Good As Well...!!! 5 Stars..!!!

Of I could give this place a 10 star rating I would do ! It's hands down the best place you're gonna find in salinas ca, The service is just excellent, they make you feel at home , the ambience is absolutely cozy and welcoming , the food taste just like homemade, delicious . This is my favorite spot to have breakfast , lunch and dinner . The menu has different options , we like to order the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer ... And love to order green chilaquiles at 2pm while my husband orders lasagna , and we pair our food with a glass of wine or champagne . This is definitely a place that will make you want to come back for more of everything ! Thank you The Village Restaurant!

First time here and it was so delicious. I got the fettuccine and the flavor was so good. My boyfriend got the tri tip sandwich and also really enjoyed it. The woman who took our order, I believe was the owner, was so so sweet which made this place so much better!

    Seafood Monterey Combo

My first clue should have been the empty restaurant. No booths; just several tables that seat four. Kinda on the cold side for a restaurant. Not cozy at all. The server was very kind and attentive. The only issue I had with him was he gave me raspberry sweetened tea when I asked for unsweetened. I think it was a language thing. My daughter and I got the seafood Monterey combo that includes mahi mahi, salmon and snapper in a lemon basil sauce. And my husband got the maple soy skirt steak. When our food came to the table I could smell bad fish and I've got a cold and my right side is completely stuffed. My daughter confirmed my suspicion. The salmon was not rotten but I could tell it was a little on the old side but one of the white pieces of fish stunk to high heaven. The lemon basil sauce was great. Too bad it was masking bad fish. The cook definitely had to have known. The maple soy wasn't awful but the cut of meat was cheap and very stringy. Needless to say, we won't be returning. I had high hopes for this place too. Im sad about it.

I ordered the tuna melt and he got the chicken Caesar salad. The tuna melt was honestly really good. The sourdough bread was toasted nicely and I loved that crispy layer of cheese on the outside because that is a special tray and my favorite part of any melt sandwich. The tuna salad itself was flavorful. It came with potatoes that unfortunately were probably the only miss for me. They seemed like they were not reheated all the way, so they had that slightly cold, rubbery texture. They also serve this little cucumber and tomato salad on the side that was absolutely delicious and honestly such a nice fresh side to my sandwich. My son wasn't too impressed with the Caesar salad because he said the dressing tasted watery, but other than that everything else he liked - the chicken was flavorful and nicely cooked, the salad was fresh and crunchy. Service and atmosphere were nice. Overall, I would definitely come back for lunch again. Breakfast is also great here, so I would recommend both.

We ordered avocado toast, French toast, banana pecan pancake, house potatoes, and an Aperol spritzer. My avocado toast was served on a single very thick piece of bread, which had a very generous amount of avocado smash and was topped off with this delightful and fresh arugula salad. I added an over easy egg for an extra charge that was the perfect balance. The house salad was simple with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, with a light lemon house dressing that brought the salad together. It was refreshing. The French toast is pretty standard. Nothing that particularly stood out. The banana pecan pancake was delicious and shared with everyone at the table. The house potatoes were extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which I found particularly satisfying. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and found Portabello's to be a good brunch spot in Salinas. The service was fast, the food portions were big, the food tasted fresh, and it was a nice ambiance. I would definitely return for the avocado toast and potatoes. Side note - I noticed Caesar Salad was misspelled on the menu as "Caeser"

Drove two hours from the Bay Area to get there and it was totally with the trip. My son got the mole negro and I got the chile verde. Everything on both plates was authentic, delicious, and AMAZING. My son tried my chile verde and said it was the best he's ever tasted and I agreed. They were super busy because it was Mother's Day, but we were seated after a short wait and our waitress was super efficient and friendly. Several times during our meal someone checked to see if we needed anything. Not going to lie, we were a bit intimidated when we pulled up as there were no other non-Hispanic people in the large crowd outside waiting to be seated. I told my son that meant the food was definitely going to be good, but I was worried about how we would be received considering the political climate these days, but it wasn't an issue. Everyone was super friendly. Will definitely be going back to try other items on their menu.

The place was packed, which is always a good sign, yet the service was still excellent, very friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I ordered the tlacoyos with chicken Milanesa, and they were absolutely delicious. The chicken Milanesa was perfectly cooked, the queso fresco added great flavor, and the chile sauce had a nice kick without being overwhelming. I also tried the tamale Oaxaqueño, which was very flavorful with shredded chicken, a rich black chile sauce, and soft masa. It was much spicier than I expected, and unfortunately too spicy for me to finish, but you can tell it was made with authentic flavors. The tostadita Oaxaqueña was another tasty treat, fully loaded, fresh, and delicious. Every bite was packed with flavor. I also had the atole, which was warm, comforting, and the perfect drink to balance the meal. Overall, Culturas gave me a memorable first introduction to Oaxacan food.
